We classify indefinite simply connected hyper-Kaehler symmetric spaces. Any such space without flat factor has commutative holonomy group and signature (4m,4m). We establish a natural 1-1 correspondence between simply connected hyper-Kaehler symmetric spaces of dimension 8m and orbits of the general linear group GL(m,H) over the quaternions on the space (S^4C^n)^τ of homogeneous quartic polynomials S in n = 2m complex variables satisfying the reality condition S = τS, where τis the real structure induced by the quaternionic structure of C^{2m} = H^m. We define and classify also complex hyper-Kaehler symmetric spaces. Such spaces without flat factor exist in any (complex) dimension divisible by 4.
In the present paper, we introduce screen almost semi-invariant (SASI) lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Keahler manifolds. We obtain the neccesary and sufficient condition for the induced connection to be a metric connection on SASI-lightlike submanifolds and construct an example for this manifold. Also we find some conditions for integrability of distributions and investigate certain characterizations.
We introduce a new class of lightlike submanifolds, namely, Screen Transversal Cauchy Riemann (STCR)-lightlike submanifolds, of indefinite Kaehler manifolds. We show that this new class is an umbrella of screen transversal lightlike, screen transversal totally real lightlike and CR-lightlike submanifolds. We give a few examples of a STCR lightlike submanifold, investigate the integrability of various distributions, obtain a characterization of such lightlike submanifolds in a complex space form and find new conditions for the induced connection to be a metric connection. Moreover, we investiga…
We present several local and global results on isometric immersions of Kaehler manifolds $M^{2n}$ into hyperbolic space $\Hy^{2n+p}$. For instance, a classification is given in the case of dimension $n\geq 4$ and codimension $p=2$. Moreover, as corollaries of general results, we conclude that there are no isometric immersion in codimension $p\leq n-2$ if the Kaehler manifold is of dimension $n\geq 4$ and either has a point of positive holomorphic sectional curvature or is compact.
We introduce two classes of null hypersurfaces of an indefinite Sasakian manifold, $(\overline{M}, \overlineϕ,ζ, η)$, tangent to the characteristic vector field $ζ$, called; {\it contact screen conformal} and {\it contact screen umbilic} null hypersurfaces. These hypersurfaces come in to fill the existing gap in screen conformal and screen totally umbilic null hypersurfaces. We prove that such hypersurfaces are contained in indefinite Sasakian space forms of constant $\overlineϕ$-sectional curvature of $-3$.
A Hopf hypersurface in a (para-)Kaehler manifold is a real hypersurface for which one of the principal directions of the second fundamental form is the (para-)complex dual of the normal vector. We consider particular Hopf hypersurfaces in the space of oriented geodesics of a non-flat space form of dimension greater than 2. For spherical and hyperbolic space forms, the oriented geodesic space admits a canonical Kaehler-Einstein and para-Kaehler-Einstein structure, respectively, so that a natural notion of a Hopf hypersurface exists. The particular hypersurfaces considered are formed by the orie…
We study the geometry of null hypersurfaces in indefinite complex contact manifolds. We prove several classification results for a variety of well-known null hypersurfaces, including the totally umbilic, totally screen umbilic, and the screen conformal ones. Furthermore, a characterization of the ambient space is given in case the underlying null hypersurface is totally contact umbilic, totally contact screen umbilic or contact screen conformal, i.e. we have proved that the ambient complex contact manifold must be a space of constant $GH$-sectional curvature of $-3$.
A theorem of Kuranishi tells us that the moduli space of complex structures on any smooth compact manifold is always locally a finite-dimensional space. Globally, however, this is simply not true; we display examples in which the moduli space contains a sequence of regions for which the local dimension tends to infinity. These examples naturally arise from the twistor theory of hyper-Kaehler manifolds.
The main two families of real hypersurfaces in complex space forms are Hopf and ruled. However, very little is known about real hypersurfaces in the indefinite complex projective space $\cpn$. In a previous work, Kimura and the second author introduced Hopf real hypersurfaces in $\cpn$. In this paper, ruled real hypersurfaces in the indefinite complex projective space are introduced, as those whose maximal holomorphic distribution is integrable, and such that the leaves are totally geodesic holomorphic hyperplanes. A detailed description of the shape operator is computed, obtaining two main di…
We wish to attack the problems that H.~Anciaux and K.~Panagiotidou posed in [1], for non-degenerate real hypersurfaces in indefinite complex projective space. We will slightly change these authors' point of view, obtaining cleaner equations for the almost contact metric structure. To make the theory meaningful, we construct new families of non-degenerate Hopf real hypersurfaces whose shape operator is diagonalisable, and one Hopf example with degenerate metric and non-diagonalisable shape operator. Next, we obtain a rigidity result. We classify those real hypersurfaces which are $η$-umbilical.…
It has been known for some time that there exist $5$ essentially different real forms of the complex affine Kac-Moody algebra of type $A_2^{(2)}$ and that one can associate $4$ of these real forms with certain classes of "integrable surfaces", such as minimal Lagrangian surfaces in $\mathbb {CP}^2$ and $\mathbb {CH}^2$, as well as definite and indefinite affine spheres in $\mathbb R^3$. In this paper we consider the class of timelike minimal Lagrangian surfaces in the indefinite complex hyperbolic two-space $\mathbb{CH}^2_1$. We show that this class of surfaces corresponds to the fifth real fo…
In this article, we construct a new para-Kähler structure $({\mathcal G},{\mathcal J},Ω)$ in the space of oriented geodesics ${\mathbb L}(M)$ in a non-flat, real space form $M$. We first show that the para-Kähler metric ${\mathcal G}$ is scalar flat and when $M$ is a 3-dimensional real space form, ${\mathcal G}$ is locally conformally flat. Furthermore, we prove that the space of oriented geodesics in hyperbolic $n$-space, equipped with the constructed metric ${\mathcal G}$, is minimally isometric embedded in the tangent bundle of the hyperbolic $n$-space. We then study the submanifold theory,…
We study hyper-spheres, spheres and circles, with respect to an indefinite metric, in a tangent space on a 4-dimensional differentiable manifold. The manifold is equipped with a positive definite metric and an additional tensor structure of type (1, 1)11. The fourth power of the additional structure is minus identity and its components form a skew-circulant matrix in some local coordinate system. The both structures are compatible and they determine an associated indefinite metric on the manifold.
Let $X$ be a compact hyperbolic Riemann surface equipped with the Poincaré metric. For any integer $k\geq 2$, we investigate the Bergman kernel associated to the holomorphic Hermitian line bundle $Ω^{\otimes k}_X$, where $Ø$ is the holomorphic cotangent bundle of $X$. Our first main result estimates the corresponding Bergman metric on $X$ in terms of the Poincaré metric. We then consider a certain natural embedding of the symmetric product of $X$ into a Grassmannian parametrizing subspaces of fixed dimension of the space of all global holomorphic sections of $Ω^{\otimes k}_X$. The Fubini-Study…
We study a system of equations on a compact complex manifold, that couples the scalar curvature of a Kaehler metric with a spectral function of a first-order deformation of the complex structure. The system comes from an infinite-dimensional Kaehler reduction, which is a hyperkaehler reduction for a particular choice of the spectral function. The system can be formally complexified using a flat connection on the space of first-order deformations that are compatible with a Kaehler metric. We describe a variational characterization of the equations, a Futaki invariant for the system, and a gener…
Let $M$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, and $η$ a closed, positive (1,1)-form which is degenerate everywhere on $M$. We associate to $η$ a family of complex structures on $M$, called a degenerate twistor family, and parametrized by a complex line. When $η$ is a pullback of a Kaehler form under a Lagrangian fibration $L$, all the fibers of degenerate twistor family also admit a Lagrangian fibration, with the fibers isomorphic to that of $L$. Degenerate twistor families can be obtained by taking limits of twistor families, as one of the Kahler forms in the hyperkahler triple goes to $η$.
Holomorphically homogeneous CR real hypersurfaces $M^3 \subset \mathbb{C}^2$ were classified by Élie Cartan in 1932. In the next dimension, we complete the classification of simply-transitive Levi non-degenerate hypersurfaces $M^5 \subset \mathbb{C}^3$ using a novel Lie algebraic approach independent of any earlier classifications of abstract Lie algebras. Central to our approach is a new coordinate-free formula for the fundamental (complexified) quartic tensor. Our final result has a unique (Levi-indefinite) non-tubular model, for which we demonstrate geometric relations to planar equi-affine…
