We classify those manifolds mentioned in the title which have finite topological type. Namely we show any such connected M is isomorphic to a hyperkaehler quotient of a flat quaternionic vector space by an abelian group.
We also show that a compact connected and simply connected 3-Sasakian manifold of dimension 4n-1 whose isometry group has rank n+1 is isometric to a 3-Sasakian quotient of a sphere by a torus. As a corollary, a compact connected quaternion-Kaehler 4n-manifold with positive scalar curvature and isometry group of rank n+1 is isometric to the quaternionic projective space or the complex grassmanian.
A construction is introduced for modifying hyperkaehler manifolds with tri-Hamiltonian circle action, that in favourable situations increases the second Betti number by one. This is based on the symplectic cut construction of Lerman. In 4 or 8 dimensions the construction may be interpreted as adding a D6-brane. A number of examples are given and generalisations to three-Sasaki and hypersymplectic geometry discussed.
In this paper, we study the compactness of a boundary value problem for hyperkaehler 4-manifolds. We show that under certain topological conditions and the positive mean curvature condition on the boundary, a sequence of hyperkaehler triples converges smoothly up to diffeomorphisms if and only if their restrictions to the boundary converge smoothly up to diffeomorphisms. We also generalize this result to torsion-free hypersymplectic triples.
Let M be a hyperkaehler manifold, not necessarily compact, and $S\cong CP^1$ the set of complex structures induced by the quaternionic action. Trianalytic subvariety of M is a subvariety which is complex analytic with respect to all $I \in CP^1$. We show that for all $I \in S$ outside of a countable set, all compact complex subvarieties $Z \subset (M,I)$ are trianalytic. For M compact, this result was proven in alg-geom/9403006 using Hodge theory.
Let $X$ be a hyperkaehler manifold. Trianalytic subvarieties of $X$ are subvarieties which are complex analytic with respect to all complex structures induced by the hyperkaehler structure. Given a 2-dimensional complex torus $T$, the Hilbert scheme $T^{[n]}$ classifying zero-dimensional subschemes of $T$ admits a hyperkaehler structure. A finite cover of $T^{[n]}$ is a product of $T$ and a simply connected hyperkaehler manifold $K^{[n-1]}$, called generalized Kummer variety. We show that for $T$ generic, the corresponding generalized Kummer variety has no trianalytic subvarieties. This implie…
Let M be a compact, holomorphically symplectic Kahler manifold, and $η$ a (1,1)-current which is nef (a limit of Kahler forms). Assume that the cohomology class of $η$ is parabolic, that is, its top power vanishes. We prove that all Lelong sets of $η$ are coisotropic. When M is generic, this is used to show that all Lelong numbers of $η$ vanish. We prove that any hyperkahler manifold with Pic(M) of rank 1 has non-trivial coisotropic subvarieties, if a generator of Pic(M) is parabolic.
A trisymplectic structure on a complex 2n-manifold is a triple of holomorphic symplectic forms such that any linear combination of these forms has constant rank 2n, n or 0, and degenerate forms in $Ω$ belong to a non-degenerate quadric hypersurface. We show that a trisymplectic manifold is equipped with a holomorphic 3-web and the Chern connection of this 3-web is holomorphic, torsion-free, and preserves the three symplectic forms. We construct a trisymplectic structure on the moduli of regular rational curves in the twistor space of a hyperkaehler manifold, and define a trisymplectic reductio…
Let M be a hypercomplex Hermitian manifold, (M,I) the same manifold considered as a complex Hermitian with a complex structure I induced by the quaternions. The standard linear-algebraic construction produces a canonical nowhere degenerate (2,0)-form on (M,I). It is well known that M is hyperkaehler if and only if the form Ωis closed with respect to the de Rham differential. The M is called HKT (hyperkaehler with torsion) if this form is closed with respect to the Dolbeault differential (this condition is weaker. Conjecturally, all compact hypercomplex manifolds admit an HKT-metrics. We exploi…
Let $(M,I,J,K)$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, $\dim_\R M =4n$. We study positive, Dolbeault-closed $(2p,0)$-forms on $(M,I)$. These forms are quaternionic analogues of the positive $(p,p)$-forms. We construct an injective homomorphism mapping Dolbeault-closed $(2p,0)$-forms to closed $(n+p,n+p)$-forms, and positive $(2p,0)$-forms to positive $(n+p,n+p)$-forms. This construction is used to prove a hyperkaehler version of the classical Skoda-El Mir theorem, which says that a trivial extension of a closed, positive current over a pluripolar set is again closed. We also prove the hyperkaehler versio…
We show that a complete simply-connected hyperkaehler 4-manifold with an isometric triholomorphic circle action is obtained from the Gibbons-Hawking ansatz with some suitable harmonic function.
Let $M$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, and $η$ a closed, positive (1,1)-form which is degenerate everywhere on $M$. We associate to $η$ a family of complex structures on $M$, called a degenerate twistor family, and parametrized by a complex line. When $η$ is a pullback of a Kaehler form under a Lagrangian fibration $L$, all the fibers of degenerate twistor family also admit a Lagrangian fibration, with the fibers isomorphic to that of $L$. Degenerate twistor families can be obtained by taking limits of twistor families, as one of the Kahler forms in the hyperkahler triple goes to $η$.
We give examples of symplectic actions of a cyclic group, inducing a trivial action on homology, on four-manifolds that admit Hamiltonian circle actions, and show that they do not extend to Hamiltonian circle actions. Our work applies holomorphic methods to extend combinatorial tools developed for circle actions to study cyclic actions.
Flows on (or variations of) discrete curves in $\R^2$ give rise to flows on a subalgebra of functions on that curve. For a special choice of flows and a certain subalgebra this is described by the Toda lattice hierachy. In the paper it is shown that the canonical symplectic structure on $\R^{2N}$, which can be interpreted as the phase space of closed discrete curves in $\R^2$ with length $N,$ induces Poisson commutation relations on the above mentioned subalgebra which yield the tri-hamiltonian poisson structure of the Toda lattice hierachy.
In this note we extend to non trivial Hamiltonian fibrations over symplectically uniruled manifolds a result of Lu's, \cite{Lu}, stating that any trivial symplectic product of two closed symplectic manifolds with one of them being symplectically uniruled verifies the Weinstein Conjecture for closed separating hypersurfaces of contact type, under certain technical conditions. The proof is based on the product formula for Gromov-Witten invariants ($GW$-invariant) of Hamiltonian fibrations derived in \cite{H}.
We construct a local tri-Hamiltonian structure of the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy, and compute the central invariants of the associated bihamiltonian structures. We show that the central invariants of one of the bihamiltonian structures are equal to 1/24, and the dispersionless limit of this bihamiltonian structure coincides with the one that is defined on the jet space of the Frobenius manifold associated with the Gromov-Witten invariants of local CP1. This result provides support for the validity of Brini's conjecture on the relation of these Gromov-Witten invariants with the Ablowitz-Ladik hie…
It is shown that the cotangent bundle of a matched pair Lie group is itself a matched pair Lie group. The trivialization of the cotangent bundle of a matched pair Lie group are presented. On the trivialized space, the canonical symplectic two-form and canonical Poisson bracket are explicitly written. Various symplectic and Poisson reductions are perfomed. The Lie-Poisson bracket is derived. As an example, Lie-Poisson equations on $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})^\ast$ are obtained.
