We show that there exist some intimate connections between three unconventional Schrödinger equations based on the use of deformed canonical commutation relations, of a position-dependent effective mass or of a curved space, respectively. This occurs whenever a specific relation between the deforming function, the position-dependent mass and the (diagonal) metric tensor holds true. We illustrate these three equivalent approaches by considering a new Coulomb problem and solving it by means of supersymmetric quantum mechanical and shape invariance techniques. We show that in contrast with the conventional Coulomb problem, the new one gives rise to only a finite number of bound states.
We establish that by parameterizing the configuration space of a one-dimensional quantum system by polynomial invariants of q-deformed Coxeter groups it is possible to construct exactly solvable models of Calogero type. We adopt the previously introduced notion of solvability which consists of relating the Hamiltonian to finite dimensional representation spaces of a Lie algebra. We present explicitly the $G_2^q $-case for which we construct the potentials by means of suitable gauge transformations.
Known shape-invariant potentials for the constant-mass Schrodinger equation are taken as effective potentials in a position-dependent effective mass (PDEM) one. The corresponding shape-invariance condition turns out to be deformed. Its solvability imposes the form of both the deformed superpotential and the PDEM. A lot of new exactly solvable potentials associated with a PDEM background are generated in this way. A novel and important condition restricting the existence of bound states whenever the PDEM vanishes at an end point of the interval is identified. In some cases, the bound-state spec…
We make a new multivariate generalization of the type A monomial space of a single variable. It is different from the previously introduced type A space of several variables which is an sl(M+1) module, and we thus call it type A'. We construct the most general quasi-solvable operator of (at most) second-order which preserves the type A' space. Investigating directly the condition under which the type A' operators can be transformed to Schroedinger operators, we obtain the complete list of the type A' quasi-solvable quantum many-body systems. In particular, we find new quasi-solvable models of …
The quantum oscillator and Kepler-Coulomb problems in $d$-dimensional spaces with constant curvature are analyzed from several viewpoints. In a deformed supersymmetric framework, the corresponding nonlinear potentials are shown to exhibit a deformed shape invariance property. By using the point canonical transformation method, the two deformed Schrödinger equations are mapped onto conventional ones corresponding to some shape-invariant potentials, whose rational extensions are well known. The inverse point canonical transformations then provide some rational extensions of the oscillator and Ke…
Several explicit examples of quasi exactly solvable `discrete' quantum mechanical Hamiltonians are derived by deforming the well-known exactly solvable Hamiltonians of one degree of freedom. These are difference analogues of the well-known quasi exactly solvable systems, the harmonic oscillator (with/without the centrifugal potential) deformed by a sextic potential and the 1/sin^2x potential deformed by a cos2x potential. They have a finite number of exactly calculable eigenvalues and eigenfunctions.
We summarize our recently proposed approach to quantum field theory on noncommutative curved spacetimes. We make use of the Drinfel'd twist deformed differential geometry of Julius Wess and his group in order to define an action functional for a real scalar field on a twist-deformed time-oriented, connected and globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifold. The corresponding deformed wave operator admits unique deformed retarded and advanced Green's operators, provided we pose a support condition on the deformation. The solution space of the deformed wave equation is constructed explicitly and can b…
We study the quantum field theory (QFT) of a free, real, massless and curvature coupled scalar field on self-similar symmetric spacetimes, which are deformed by an abelian Drinfel'd twist constructed from a Killing and a homothetic Killing vector field. In contrast to deformations solely by Killing vector fields, such as the Moyal-Weyl Minkowski spacetime, the equation of motion and Green's operators are deformed. We show that there is a *-algebra isomorphism between the QFT on the deformed and the formal power series extension of the QFT on the undeformed spacetime. We study the convergent im…
We introduce two new families of quasi-exactly solvable (QES) extensions of the oscillator in a $d$-dimensional constant-curvature space. For the first three members of each family, we obtain closed-form expressions of the energies and wavefunctions for some allowed values of the potential parameters using the Bethe ansatz method. We prove that the first member of each family has a hidden sl(2,$\mathbb{R}$) symmetry and is connected with a QES equation of the first or second type, respectively. One-dimensional results are also derived from the $d$-dimensional ones with $d \ge 2$, thereby getti…
We consider two families of extensions of the oscillator in a $d$-dimensional constant-curvature space and analyze them in a deformed supersymmetric framework, wherein the starting oscillator is known to exhibit a deformed shape invariance property. We show that the first two members of each extension family are also endowed with such a property provided some constraint conditions relating the potential parameters are satisfied, in other words they are conditionally deformed shape invariant. Since, in the second step of the construction of a partner potential hierarchy, the constraint conditio…
Based on the well-known relation between Fokker-Planck equations and Schroedinger equations of quantum mechanics (QM), we propose new deformed Fokker-Planck (FP) equations associated with the Schroedinger equations of "discrete" QM. The latter is a natural discretization of QM and its Schroedinger equations are difference instead of differential equations. Exactly solvable FP equations are obtained corresponding to exactly solvable "discrete" QM, whose eigenfunctions include various deformations of the classical orthogonal polynomials.
In this article we study the quantization of a free real scalar field on a class of noncommutative manifolds, obtained via formal deformation quantization using triangular Drinfel'd twists. We construct deformed quadratic action functionals and compute the corresponding equation of motion operators. The Green's operators and the fundamental solution of the deformed equation of motion are obtained in terms of formal power series. It is shown that, using the deformed fundamental solution, we can define deformed *-algebras of field observables, which in general depend on the spacetime deformation…
We study classical scalar field theories on noncommutative curved spacetimes. Following the approach of Wess et al. [Classical Quantum Gravity 22 (2005), 3511 and Classical Quantum Gravity 23 (2006), 1883], we describe noncommutative spacetimes by using (Abelian) Drinfel'd twists and the associated *-products and *-differential geometry. In particular, we allow for position dependent noncommutativity and do not restrict ourselves to the Moyal-Weyl deformation. We construct action functionals for real scalar fields on noncommutative curved spacetimes, and derive the corresponding deformed wave …
Infinite families of quasi-exactly solvable position-dependent mass Schrödinger equations with known ground and first excited states are constructed in a deformed supersymmetric background. The starting points consist in one- and two-parameter trigonometric Pöschl-Teller potentials endowed with a deformed shape invariance property and, therefore, exactly solvable. Some extensions of them are considered with the same position-dependent mass and dealt with by a generating function method. The latter enables to construct the first two superpotentials of a deformed supersymmetric hierarchy, as wel…
We present a new exactly solvable (classical and quantum) model that can be interpreted as the generalization to the two-dimensional sphere and to the hyperbolic space of the two-dimensional anisotropic oscillator with any pair of frequencies $ω_x$ and $ω_y$. The new curved Hamiltonian ${H}_κ$ depends on the curvature $κ$ of the underlying space as a deformation/contraction parameter, and the Liouville integrability of ${H}_κ$ relies on its separability in terms of geodesic parallel coordinates, which generalize the Cartesian coordinates of the plane. Moreover, the system is shown to be superi…
In a previous paper [{\it J. Phys. A: Math. Theor.} {\bf 40} (2007) 11105], we constructed a class of coherent states for a polynomially deformed $su(2)$ algebra. In this paper, we first prepare the discrete representations of the nonlinearly deformed $su(1,1)$ algebra. Then we extend the previous procedure to construct a discrete class of coherent states for a polynomial su(1,1) algebra which contains the Barut-Girardello set and the Perelomov set of the SU(1,1) coherent states as special cases. We also construct coherent states for the cubic algebra related to the conditionally solvable radi…
We investigate a U(1) gauge invariant quantum mechanical system on a 2D noncommutative space with coordinates generating a generalized deformed oscillator algebra. The Hamiltonian is taken as a quadratic form in gauge covariant derivatives obeying the nonlinear Dolan-Grady relations. This restricts the structure function of the deformed oscillator algebra to a quadratic polynomial. The cases when the coordinates form the su(2) and sl(2,R) algebras are investigated in detail. Reducing the Hamiltonian to 1D finite-difference quasi-exactly solvable operators, we demonstrate partial algebraization…
We study the notion of a Dirac operator in the framework of twist-deformed noncommutative geometry. We provide a number of well-motivated candidate constructions and propose a minimal set of axioms that a noncommutative Dirac operator should satisfy. These criteria turn out to be restrictive, but they do not fix a unique construction: two of our operators generally satisfy the axioms, and we provide an explicit example where they are inequivalent. For highly symmetric spacetimes with Drinfeld twists constructed from sufficiently many Killing vector fields, all of our operators coincide. For ge…
The construction and analysis of deformations of quantum field theories by warped convolutions is extended to a class of globally hyperbolic spacetimes. First, we show that any four-dimensional spacetime which admits two commuting and spacelike Killing vector fields carries a family of wedge regions with causal properties analogous to the Minkowski space wedges. Deformations of quantum field theories on these spacetimes are carried out within the operator-algebraic framework - the emerging models share many structural properties with deformations of field theories on flat spacetime. In particu…
The focus of this PhD thesis is on applications, new developments and extensions of the noncommutative gravity theory proposed by Julius Wess and his group. In part one we propose an extension of the usual symmetry reduction procedure to noncommutative gravity. We classify in the case of abelian Drinfel'd twists all consistent deformations of spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies and of the Schwarzschild black hole. The deformed symmetry structure allows us to obtain exact solutions of the noncommutative Einstein equations in many of our models. In part two we develop a new for…
A one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent effective mass in the kinetic energy operator is studied in the framework of an $so(2,1)$ algebra. New mass-deformed versions of Scarf II, Morse and generalized Pöschl-Teller potentials are obtained. Consistency with an intertwining condition is pointed out.
Inozemtsev models are classically integrable multi-particle dynamical systems related to Calogero-Moser models. Because of the additional q^6 (rational models) or sin^2(2q) (trigonometric models) potentials, their quantum versions are not exactly solvable in contrast with Calogero-Moser models. We show that quantum Inozemtsev models can be deformed to be a widest class of partly solvable (or quasi-exactly solvable) multi-particle dynamical systems. They posses N-fold supersymmetry which is equivalent to quasi-exact solvability. A new method for identifying and solving quasi-exactly solvable sy…
A comprehensive review of exactly solvable quantum mechanics is presented with the emphasis of the recently discovered multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials. The main subjects to be discussed are the factorised Hamiltonians, the general structure of the solution spaces of the Schroedinger equation (Crum's theorem and its modifications), the shape invariance, the exact solvability in the Schroedinger picture as well as in the Heisenberg picture, the creation/annihilation operators and the dynamical symmetry algebras, coherent states, various deformation schemes (multiple Darboux transformations)…
This work is a contribution to the area of Strict Quantization (in the sense of Rieffel) in the presence of curvature and non-Abelian group actions. More precisely, we use geometry to obtain explicit oscillatory integral formulae for strongly invariant strict deformation quantizations of a class of solvable symplectic symmetric spaces. Each of these quantizations gives rise to a field of (pre)-C*-algebras whose fibers are function algebras which are closed under the deformed product. The symmetry group of the symmetric space acts on each fiber by C*-algebra automorphisms.
Lobachewsky geometry simulates a medium with special constitutive relations. The situation is specified in quasi-cartesian coordinates (x,y,z). Exact solutions of the Maxwell equations in complex 3-vector form, extended to curved space models within the tetrad formalism, have been found in Lobachevsky space. The problem reduces to a second order differential equation which can be associated with an 1-dimensional Schrodinger problem for a particle in external potential field U(z) = U_{0} e^{2z}. In quantum mechanics, curved geometry acts as an effective potential barrier with reflection coeffic…
An exactly solvable position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation in two dimensions, depicting a particle moving in a semi-infinite layer, is re-examined in the light of recent theories describing superintegrable two-dimensional systems with integrals of motion that are quadratic functions of the momenta. To get the energy spectrum a quadratic algebra approach is used together with a realization in terms of deformed parafermionic oscillator operators. In this process, the importance of supplementing algebraic considerations with a proper treatment of boundary conditions for selecting physical w…

An N-dimensional position-dependent mass Hamiltonian (depending on a parameter λ) formed by a curved kinetic term and an intrinsic oscillator potential is considered. It is shown that such a Hamiltonian is exactly solvable for any real positive value of the parameter λ. Algebraically, this Hamiltonian can be thought of as a new maximally superintegrable λ-deformation of the N-dimensional isotropic oscillator and, from a geometric viewpoint, this system is just the intrinsic oscillator potential on an N-dimensional hyperbolic space with nonconstant curvature. The spectrum of this model is shown…

We construct two quantum spin chains Hamiltonians with quantum sl(2|1) invariance. These spin chains define variants of the Hubbard model and describe electron models with pair hoppings. A cubic algebra that admits the Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra as a quotient allows exact solvability of the periodic chain. The two Hamiltonians, respectively built using the distinguished and the fermionic bases of U_q(sl(2|1)) differ only in the boundary terms. They are actually equivalent, but the equivalence is non local. Reflection equations are solved to get exact solvability on open chains with non triv…
On using the known equivalence between the presence of a position-dependent mass (PDM) in the Schrödinger equation and a deformation of the canonical commutation relations, a method based on deformed shape invariance has recently been devised for generating pairs of potential and PDM for which the Schrödinger equation is exactly solvable. This approach has provided the bound-state energy spectrum, as well as the ground-state and the first few excited-state wavefunctions. The general wavefunctions have however remained unknown in explicit form because for their determination one would need the …
Let group generators having finite-dimensional representation be realized as Hermitian linear differential operators without nhomogeneous terms as takes place, for example, for the SO(n) group. Then orresponding group Hamiltonians containing terms linear in generators (along with quadratic ones) give rise to quasi-exactly solvable models with a magnetic field in a curved space. In particular, in the two-dimensional case such models are generated by quantum tops. In the three-dimensional one for the SO(4) Hamiltonian with an isotropic quadratic part the manifold within which a quantum particle …
The link between 3D spaces with (in general, non-constant) curvature and quantum deformations is presented. It is shown how the non-standard deformation of a sl(2) Poisson coalgebra generates a family of integrable Hamiltonians that represent geodesic motions on 3D manifolds with a non-constant curvature that turns out to be a function of the deformation parameter z. A different Hamiltonian defined on the same deformed coalgebra is also shown to generate a maximally superintegrable geodesic motion on 3D Riemannian and (2+1)D relativistic spaces whose sectional curvatures are all constant and e…
A novel family of exactly solvable quantum systems on curved space is presented. The family is the quantum version of the classical Perlick family, which comprises all maximally superintegrable 3-dimensional Hamiltonian systems with spherical symmetry. The high number of symmetries (both geometrical and dynamical) exhibited by the classical systems has a counterpart in the accidental degeneracy in the spectrum of the quantum systems. This family of quantum problem is completely solved with the techniques of the SUSYQM (supersymmetric quantum mechanics). We also analyze in detail the ordering p…
A new hidden symmetry is exhibited in the reflection equation and related quantum integrable models. It is generated by a dual pair of operators $\{\textsf{A}, \textsf{A}^*\}\in{\cal A}$ subject to $q-$deformed Dolan-Grady relations. Using the inverse scattering method, a new family of quantum integrable models is proposed. In the simplest case, the Hamiltonian is linear in the fundamental generators of ${\cal A}$. For general values of $q$, the corresponding spectral problem is quasi-exactly solvable. Several examples of two-dimensional massive/massless (boundary) integrable models are recons…
We use a deformed differential structure to obtain a curved metric by a deformation quantization of the flat space-time. In particular, by setting the deformation parameters to be equal to physical constants we obtain the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model for inflation and a deformed version of the FRW space-time. By calculating classical Einstein-equations for the extended space-time we obtain non-trivial solutions. Moreover, in this framework we obtain the Moyal-Weyl, i.e. a constant non-commutative space-time, by a consistency condition.
The essential features of a quantum group deformation of classical symmetries of General Relativity in the case with non-vanishing cosmological constant $Λ$ are presented. We fully describe (anti-)de Sitter non-commutative spacetimes and curved momentum spaces in (1+1) and (2+1) dimensions arising from the $κ$-deformed quantum group symmetries. These non-commutative spacetimes are introduced semiclassically by means of a canonical Poisson structure, the Sklyanin bracket, depending on the classical $r$-matrix defining the $κ$-deformation, while curved momentum spaces are defined as orbits gener…
Isospectral transformations of exactly solvable models constitute a fruitful method for obtaining new structures with prescribed properties. In this paper we study the stability group of the Dirac algebra in honeycomb lattices representing graphene or boron nitride. New crystalline arrays with conical (Dirac) points are obtained; in particular, a model for dichalcogenide monolayers is proposed and analyzed. In our studies we encounter unitary and non-unitary transformations. We show that the latter give rise to $\mbox{$\cal P\,$}\mbox{$\cal T\,$}$-symmetric Hamiltonians, in compliance with kno…
In this paper we study a wide class of planar single-trace four point correlators in the chiral conformal field theory ($χ$CFT$_4$) arising as a double scaling limit of the $γ$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory. In the planar (t'Hooft) limit, each of such correlators is described by a single Feynman integral having the bulk topology of a square lattice "fishnet" and/or of an honeycomb lattice of Yukawa vertices. The computation of this class of Feynmann integrals at any loop is achieved by means of an exactly-solvable spin chain magnet with $SO(1,5)$ symmetry. In this paper we explain in det…
A construction method of infinite families of quasi-exactly solvable position-dependent mass Schrödinger equations with known ground and first excited states is proposed in a deformed supersymmetric background. Such families correspond to extensions of known potentials endowed with a deformed shape invariance property. Two different approaches are combined. The first one is a generating function method, which enables to construct the first two superpotentials of a deformed supersymmetric hierarchy, as well as the first two partner potentials and the first two eigenstates of the first potential…
We establish a direct connection between inhomogeneous XX spin chains (or free fermion systems with nearest-neighbors hopping) and certain QES models on the line giving rise to a family of weakly orthogonal polynomials. We classify all such models and their associated XX chains, which include two families related to the Lamé (finite gap) quantum potential on the line. For one of these chains, we numerically compute the Rényi bipartite entanglement entropy at half filling and derive an asymptotic approximation thereof by studying the model's continuous limit, which turns out to describe a massl…

We present four types of infinitely many exactly solvable Fokker-Planck equations, which are related to the newly discovered exceptional orthogonal polynomials. They represent the deformed versions of the Rayleigh process and the Jacobi process.
Shape invariance is an important ingredient of many exactly solvable quantum mechanics. Several examples of shape invariant ``discrete quantum mechanical systems" are introduced and discussed in some detail. They arise in the problem of describing the equilibrium positions of Ruijsenaars-Schneider type systems, which are "discrete" counterparts of Calogero and Sutherland systems, the celebrated exactly solvable multi-particle dynamics. Deformed Hermite and Laguerre polynomials are the typical examples of the eigenfunctions of the above shape invariant discrete quantum mechanical systems.
Algebraic structure of a class of differential equations including Heun is shown to be related with the deformations of sl(2) algebra. These include both quadratic and cubic ones. The finite dimensional representation of cubic algebra is explicitly shown to describe a quasi-exactly solvable system, not connected with sl(2) symmetry. Known finite dimensional representations of sl(2) emerge under special conditions. We answer affirmatively the question raised by Turbiner: Are there quasi- exactly solvable problems which can not be represented in terms of sl(2) generators? and give the explicit d…
We present a generalization of Minkowski's classic theorem on the reconstruction of tetrahedra from algebraic data to homogeneously curved spaces. Euclidean notions such as the normal vector to a face are replaced by Levi-Civita holonomies around each of the tetrahedron's faces. This allows the reconstruction of both spherical and hyperbolic tetrahedra within a unified framework. A new type of hyperbolic simplex is introduced in order for all the sectors encoded in the algebraic data to be covered. Generalizing the phase space of shapes associated to flat tetrahedra leads to group valued momen…
The "curved" Coulomb potential on the S3 ball, whose isometry group is SO(4), takes the form of a cotangent function, and when added to the four-dimensional squared angular momentum operator, one of the so(4) Casimir invariants, a Hamiltonian is obtained which describes a perturbance of the free geodesic motion that results peculiar in several aspects. The spectrum of such a motion has been studied on various occasions and is known to carry unexpectedly so(4) degeneracy patterns despite the non-commutativity of the perturbance with the Casimir operator. We here suggest an explanation for this …
