The purpose of this paper is to discuss the relationship between commutative and non-commutative integrability of Hamiltonian systems and to construct new examples of integrable geodesic flows on Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we prove that the geodesic flow of the bi-invariant metric on any bi-quotient of a compact Lie group is integrable in non-commutative sense by means of polynomial integrals, and therefore, in classical commutative sense by means of $C^\infty$--smooth integrals.
We briefly describe the construction of Stä\-kel-Killing and Killing-Yano tensors on toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds without working out intricate generalized Killing equations. The integrals of geodesic motions are expressed in terms of Killing vectors and Kill\-ing-Yano tensors of the homogeneous Sasaki-Einstein space $T^{1,1}$. We discuss the integrability of geodesics and construct explicitly the action-angle variables. Two pairs of frequencies of the geodesic motions are resonant giving way to chaotic behavior when the system is perturbed.
We study the integrability of the geodesic equations of the Chazy- Curzon space-time. It was established that for the equilibrium point $p_ρ=p_z=z=0$ and, $ρ_0 \in (1,\, 2)$, there are only periodic solutions, the Hamiltonian system, describing geodesic motion of Chazy-Curzon space-time has no additional analytic first integral. Our approach is based on the following: if the system has a family of periodic solutions around an equilibrium and if the period function is infinitely branched then the system has no additional analytical first integral.
Analysis of the geodesics in the space of signature $(1,3)$ that splits in two-dimensional distributions resulting from the Weyl tensor eignespaces - hyperbolic and elliptic ones - described in [V. Lychagin, V. Yumaguzhin, \emph{Differential invariants and exact solutions of the Einstein equations}, Anal.Math.Phys. 1664-235X 1-9 (2016)] are presented. Cases when geodesic equations are integrable are identified. Similar analysis is performed for the same model coupled to Electromagnetism described in [V. Lychagin, V. We introduce and solve the non-commutative version of the Hermite-Padé type I approximation problem. Its solution, expressed by quasideterminants, leads in a natural way to a subclass of solutions of the non-commutative Hirota (discrete Kadomtsev--Petviashvili) system and of its linear problem. We also prove integrability of the constrained system, which in the simplest case is the non-commutative discrete-time Toda lattice equation known from the theory of non-commutative Padé approximants and matrix orthogonal polynomials.
We prove integrability of a generalised non-commutative fourth order quintic nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The proof is relatively succinct and rooted in the linearisation method pioneered by Ch. Poppe. It is based on solving the corresponding linearised partial differential system to generate an evolutionary Hankel operator for the `scattering data'. The time-evolutionary solution to the non-commutative nonlinear partial differential system is then generated by solving a linear Fredholm equation which corresponds to the Marchenko equation. The integrability of reverse space-time and reverse…
The non-commutative integrability (NCI) is a property fulfilled by some Hamiltonian systems that ensures, among other things, the exact solvability of their corresponding equations of motion. The latter means that an "explicit formula" for the trajectories of these systems can be constructed. Such a construction rests mainly on the so-called Lie theorem on integrability by quadratures. It is worth mentioning that, in the context of Hamiltonian systems, the NCI has been for around 40 years, essentially, the unique criterium for exact solvability expressed in the terms of first integrals (contai…

The Jacobi equation for geodesic deviation describes finite size effects due to the gravitational tidal forces. In this paper we show how one can integrate the Jacobi equation in any spacetime admitting completely integrable geodesics. Namely, by linearizing the geodesic equation and its conserved charges, we arrive at the invariant Wronskians for the Jacobi system that are linear in the `deviation momenta' and thus yield a system of first-order differential equations that can be integrated. The procedure is illustrated on an example of a rotating black hole spacetime described by the Kerr geo…
In this work we study the general system of geodesic equations for the case of a massive particle moving on an arbitrary curved manifold. The investigation is carried out from the symmetry perspective. By exploiting the parametrization invariance property of the system we define nonlocal conserved charges that are independent from the typical integrals of motion constructed out of possible Killing vectors/tensors of the background metric. We show that with their help every two dimensional surface can - at least in principle - be characterized as integrable. Due to the nonlocal nature of these …
We investigate dynamics of probe particles moving in the near-horizon limit of extremal Myers-Perry black holes in arbitrary dimensions. Employing ellipsoidal coordinates we show that this problem is integrable and separable, extending the results of the odd dimensional case discussed in arXiv:1703.00713. We find the general solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equations for these systems and present explicit expressions for the Liouville integrals, discuss Killing tensors and the associated constants of motion. We analyze special cases of the background near-horizon geometry were the system posses…
The generic null geodesic of the Schwarzschild--Kruskal--Szekeres geometry has a natural complexification, an elliptic curve with a cusp at the singularity. To realize that complexification as a Riemann surface without a cusp, and also to ensure conservation of energy at the singularity, requires a branched cover of the space-time over the singularity, with the geodesic being doubled as well to obtain a genus two hyperelliptic curve with an extra involution. Furthermore, the resulting space-time obtained from this branch cover has a Hamiltonian that is null geodesically complete. The full comp…
The integrability of the geodesic flow on the three-folds $\mathcal M^3$ admitting $SL(2,\mathbb R)$-geometry in Thurston's sense is investigated. The main examples are the quotients $\mathcal M^3_Γ=Γ\backslash PSL(2,\mathbb R)$, where $Γ\subset PSL(2,\mathbb R)$ is a cofinite Fuchsian group. We show that the corresponding phase space $T^*M_Γ^3$ contains two open regions with integrable and chaotic behaviour with zero and positive topological entropy respectively. As a concrete example we consider the case of modular 3-fold with the modular group $Γ=PSL({2,\mathbb Z})$, when $\mathcal M^3_Γ$ i…
This paper reviews results about discrete physics and non-commutative worlds and explores further the structure and consequences of constraints linking classical calculus and discrete calculus formulated via commutators. In particular we review how the formalism of generalized non-commutative electromagnetism follows from a first order constraint and how, via the Kilmister equation, relationships with general relativity follow from a second order constraint. It is remarkable that a second order constraint, based on interlacing the commutative and non-commutative worlds, leads to an equivalent …
Cluster algebras are a class of commutative algebras whose generators are defined by a recursive process called mutation. We give a brief introduction to cluster algebras, and explain how discrete integrable systems can appear in the context of cluster mutation. In particular, we give examples of birational maps that are integrable in the Liouville sense and arise from cluster algebras with periodicity, as well as examples of discrete Painlevé equations that are derived from Y-systems.
This paper initiates a systematic development of a theory of non-commutative optimization. It aims to unify and generalize a growing body of work from the past few years which developed and analyzed algorithms for natural geodesically convex optimization problems on Riemannian manifolds that arise from the symmetries of non-commutative groups. These algorithms minimize the moment map (a non-commutative notion of the usual gradient) and test membership in null cones and moment polytopes (a vast class of polytopes, typically of exponential vertex and facet complexity, which arise from this a pri…
We study invariant Nijenhuis $(1,1)$-tensors on a homogeneous space $G/K$ of a reductive Lie group $G$ from the point of view of integrability of a Hamiltonian system of differential equations with the $G$-invariant Hamiltonian function on the cotangent bundle $T^*(G/K)$. Such a tensor induces an invariant Poisson tensor $Π_1$ on $T^*(G/K)$, which is Poisson compatible with the canonical Poisson tensor $Π_{T^*(G/K)}$. This Poisson pair can be reduced to the space of $G$-invariant functions on $T^*(G/K)$ and produces a family of Poisson commuting $G$-invariant functions. We give, in Lie algebra…
Killing tensor fields have been thought of as describing hidden symmetry of space(-time) since they are in one-to-one correspondence with polynomial first integrals of geodesic equations. Many problems in classical mechanics can be formulated as geodesic problems in curved spaces and spacetimes, and thus solving the defining equation for Killing tensor fields (the Killing equation) is a powerful way to integrate the equations of motion. In this paper we attempt to formulate the integrability conditions of the Killing equation, which serve to put an upper bound on the number of linearly indepen…
We study the existence of real-analytic first integrals and real-analytic integrability for perturbations of integrable systems in the sense of Bogoyavlenskij including non-Hamiltonian ones. We especially assume that there exists a family of periodic orbits on a regular level set of the first integrals having a connected and compact component and give sufficient conditions for nonexistence of the same number of real-analytic first integrals in the perturbed systems as the unperturbed ones and for their real-analytic nonintegrability near the level set such that the first integrals and commutat…
