We investigate the quasi-local thermodynamics of rotating Kerr-AdS black holes enclosed by a finite timelike boundary (cavity). Extending recent work on static systems, we define the holographic pressure and volume via the trace of the Brown-York stress tensor on the cutoff surface. We demonstrate that the inclusion of angular momentum introduces a momentum flux term at the boundary, requiring a generalized first law: $dE = T_{\mathrm{loc}}dS + Ω_{\mathrm{loc}}dJ - \mathcal{P}d\mathcal{A}$. We derive the explicit expressions for these thermodynamic conjugates and analyze the equation of state. Crucially, we examine the extensivity of the system in the large-size limit. We find that while small rotating black holes exhibit non-extensive behavior typical of self-gravitating systems, large Kerr-AdS black holes recover extensivity, behaving effectively as a thermal fluid on the boundary. This result strengthens the holographic interpretation of the cutoff surface as the domain of a dual field theory.
Tensor networks, $T\bar{T}$, and broader notions of a holographic principle all motivate the idea that some notion of gravitational holography should persist in the presence of a radial cutoff. But in the absence of time-reflection symmetry, the areas of Hubeny-Rangamani-Takayanagi surfaces anchored to the radial cutoff generally violate strong subadditivity, even when the associated boundary regions are spacelike separated as defined by both bulk and boundary notions of causality. We thus propose an alternate definition of cutoff-holographic entropy using a restricted maximin prescription anc…
In this letter we study a model of inflation in which the inflationary regimen comes from a type of holographic energy density. In particular, we consider the Granda-Oliveros proposal for the holographic energy density, which contains two free dimensionless parameters, $α$ and $β$. This holographic energy density is associated to the so-called Granda-Oliveros infrared cutoff (G-O cutoff). Additionally, since in the inflationary regimen the energy scales are very high, it is necessary to modify the G-O cutoff taking into account a correction due to the ultraviolet cutoff. In this way, we obtain…

We show how the $T^2$ deformation of large $N$, holographic conformal field theories arise from coupling them to the quadratic mass term of ghost-free massive gravity. We then show that in a certain approximation, the equations arising from the variation of the background frame field are those of the Randall--Sundrum II scenario.
We study the fate of reparametrization invariance of Wilson loops, also known as 'zig-zag' symmetry, under the RG flow using some simple cases as guidance. We restrict our analysis to large-$N$, strongly coupled CFTs and use the holographic dual description of a Wilson loop as a fundamental string embedded in asymptotically AdS spaces, at zero and nonzero temperature. We then introduce a cutoff in the holographic radial direction and integrate out the the section of the string closer to the AdS boundary in the spirit of holographic Wilsonian renormalization. We make explicit the map between Wi…
Based on reasonable assumptions, we propose a new expression for Lloyd's bound, which confines the complexity growth of charged black holes. We then revisit holographic complexity for charged black branes in the presence of a finite cutoff. Using the proposed Lloyd's bound we find a relation between the UV and the behind the horizon cutoff. This is found to be consistent with the factorization of the partition function at leading order in large N. We argue that the result may be thought of as a holographic realization of strong cosmic censorship.
A heavy quark moving through a strongly coupled deconfined plasma has a holographic dual description as a string moving in a black brane geometry. We apply the holographic Wilsonian renormalization method to derive a holographic effective string action dual to the heavy quark. The effective action only depends on the geometry between the black brane horizon and a cutoff localized in the radial direction, corresponding to the IR of the dual theory. We derive RG flow equations for the coefficients in the effective action and show that the force acting on the heavy quark is independent of the pos…
