This paper is concerned with the study of a class of nonlinear nonlocal functional evolution problems defined in an abstract Banach algebra. We introduce an abstract functional setting that encompasses a wide range of structured population models appearing in biomathematical literature. Within this framework, we analyze the well-posedness of the Cauchy problem and the existence of stationary solutions in the positive cone of the Banach algebra. By reviewing a large number of approaches, we also derive conditions for the local and global stability of these stationary solutions. Additionally, we explore the limits of these conditions by exhibiting explicit counterexamples. In particular, for mutation--selection models with symmetric mutation operators, we uncover both sufficient conditions for existence, uniqueness and stability, and counterexamples to existence or stability.
In this paper, we consider the inverse reaction coefficient problems (IRCPs) for nonlocal diffusion equation and multi-term time-fractional nonlocal diffusion equation from the average nonlocal flux data in external reaction region. Based on the nonlocal maximum principle we established, the uniqueness theorem for IRCPs are proved.
The present paper is devoted to the study of existence, uniqueness and stability of transition fronts of nonlocal dispersal evolution equations in time heterogeneous media of bistable type under the unbalanced condition. We first study space nonincreasing transition fronts and prove various important qualitative properties, including uniform steepness, stability, uniform stability and exponential decaying estimates. Then, we show that any transition front, after certain space shift, coincides with a space nonincreasing transition front (if it exists), which implies the uniqueness, up to space …
In this paper we prove the uniqueness and radial symmetry of minimizers for variational problems that model several phenomena. The uniqueness is a consequence of the convexity of the functional. The main technique is Fourier transform of tempered distributions.
In this paper we investigate a class of elliptic problems involving a nonlocal Kirchhoff type operator with variable coefficients and data changing its sign. Under appropriated conditions on the coefficients, we have shown existence and uniqueness of solution.
We study traveling waves for a reaction-diffusion equation with nonlocal anisotropic diffusion and a linear combination of local and nonlocal monostable-type reactions. We describe relations between speeds and asymptotic of profiles of traveling waves, and prove the uniqueness of the profiles up to shifts.
We describe a method to show short time uniqueness results for viscosity solutions of general nonlocal and non-monotone second-order geometric equations arising in front propagation problems. Our method is based on some lower gradient bounds for the solution. These estimates are crucial to obtain regularity properties of the front, which allow to deal with nonlocal terms in the equations. Applications to short time uniqueness results for the initial value problems for dislocation type equations, asymptotic equations of a FitzHugh-Nagumo type system and equations depending on the Lebesgue measu…
In this work we study a generalized nonlocal thermistor problem with fractional-order Riemann-Liouville derivative. Making use of fixed-point theory, we obtain existence and uniqueness of a positive solution.
We are interested in nonlocal Eikonal Equations describing the evolution of interfaces moving with a nonlocal, non monotone velocity. For these equations, only the existence of global-in-time weak solutions is available in some particular cases. In this paper, we propose a new approach for proving uniqueness of the solution when the front is expanding. This approach simplifies and extends existing results for dislocation dynamics. It also provides the first uniqueness result for a Fitzhugh-Nagumo system. The key ingredients are some new perimeter estimates for the evolving fronts as well as so…
In this paper we prove existence and uniqueness of solutions to a nonlocal parabolic problem which generalizes the electric heating problem of a conducting body.
Using a fixed point theorem in a proper Banach space, we prove existence and uniqueness results of positive solutions for a fractional Riemann-Liouville nonlocal thermistor problem on arbitrary nonempty closed subsets of the real numbers.
We study nonlocal conservation laws with a discontinuous flux function of regularity $\mathsf{L}^{\infty}(\mathbb{R})$ in the spatial variable and show existence and uniqueness of weak solutions in $\mathsf{C}\big([0,T];\mathsf{L}^{1}_{\text{loc}}(\mathbb{R})\big)$, as well as related maximum principles. We achieve this well-posedness by a proper reformulation in terms of a fixed-point problem. This fixed-point problem itself necessitates the study of existence, uniqueness and stability of a class of discontinuous ordinary differential equations. On the ODE level, we compare the solution type …
Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes system describes the evolution of two isothermal, incompressible, immiscible fluids in a bounded domain. In this work, we consider the stationary nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes system in two and three dimensions with singular potential. We prove the existence of a weak solution for the system using pseudo-monotonicity arguments and Browder's theorem. Further we establish the uniqueness and regularity results for the weak solution of the stationary nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes system for constant mobility parameter and viscosity. Finally, in two dimensi…
We consider the following elliptic system with fractional laplacian $$ -(-Δ)^su=uv^2,\ \ -(-Δ)^sv=vu^2,\ \ u,v>0 \ \mbox{on}\ \R^n,$$ where $s\in(0,1)$ and $(-Δ)^s$ is the $s$-Lapalcian. We first prove that all positive solutions must have polynomial bound. Then we use the Almgren monotonicity formula to perform a blown-down analysis to $s$-harmonic functions. Finally we use the method of moving planes to prove the uniqueness of the one dimensional profile, up to translation and scaling.
In this paper, we used some theorems of fixed point for studying the results of existence and uniqueness for Hilfer-Hadamard-Type fractional differential equations, \[_{H}D^{α,β}x(t)+f(t,x(t))=0, \hbox{ on the interval } J:=(1,e]\] with nonlinear boundary value problems \[x(1+ε)=\sum_{i=1}^{n-2}ν_{i}x(ζ_{i}), \quad\quad\quad~_{H}D^{1,1}x(e) = \sum_{i=1}^{n-2} σ_i~_{H} D^{1,1}x(ζ_{i})\]
We consider traveling fronts to the nonlocal bistable equation. We do not assume that the Borel-measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. We show that there is a traveling wave solution with monotone profile. In order to prove this result, we would develop a recursive method for abstract monotone dynamical systems and apply it to the equation.
We consider a nonlocal analogue of the Fisher-KPP equation. We do not assume that the Borel-measure for the convolution is absolutely continuous. In order to show the main result, we modify a recursive method for abstract monotone discrete dynamical systems by Weinberger. We note that the monotone semiflow generated by the equation does not have compactness with respect to the compact-open topology. At the end, we propose a discrete model that describes the measurement process.
We prove uniqueness of solutions for the nonlocal Liouville equation $$ (-Δ)^{1/2} w = K e^w \quad \mbox{in $\mathbb{R}$} $$ with finite total $Q$-curvature $\int_{\mathbb{R}} K e^w \, dx< +\infty$. Here the prescribed $Q$-curvature function $K=K(|x|) > 0$ is assumed to be a positive, symmetric-decreasing function satisfying suitable regularity and decay bounds. In particular, we obtain uniqueness of solutions in the Gaussian case with $K(x) = \exp(-x^2)$. Our uniqueness proof exploits a connection of the nonlocal Liouville equation to ground state solitons for Calogero--Moser derivative NLS, …
This work is devoted to examine the uniqueness and existence of kinetic solutions for a class of scalar conservation laws involving a nonlocal super-critical diffusion operator. Our proof for uniqueness is based upon the analysis on a microscopic contraction functional and the existence is enabled by a parabolic approximation. As an illustration, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of kinetic solutions for the generalized fractional Burgers-Fisher type equations. Moreover, we demonstrate the kinetic solutions' Lipschitz continuity in time, and continuous dependence on nonlinearities and Lév…
We are revisiting the topic of travelling fronts for the food-limited (FL) model with spatio-temporal nonlocal reaction. These solutions are crucial for understanding the whole model dynamics. Firstly, we prove the existence of monotone wavefronts. In difference with all previous results formulated in terms of `sufficiently small parameters', our existence theorem indicates a reasonably broad and explicit range of the model key parameters allowing the existence of monotone waves. Secondly, numerical simulations realized on the base of our analysis show appearance of non-oscillating and non-mon…
Nonlocal cross-diffusion systems on the torus, arising in population dynamics and neuroscience, are analyzed. The global existence of weak solutions, the weak-strong uniqueness, and the localization limit are proved. The kernels are assumed to be positive definite and in detailed balance. The proofs are based on entropy estimates coming from Shannon-type and Rao-type entropies, while the weak-strong uniqueness result follows from the relative entropy method. The existence and uniqueness theorems hold for nondifferentiable kernels. The associated local cross-diffusion system, derived in the loc…
The aim of this paper is to classify the positive solutions of the nonlocal critical equation: $$ -Δu=\left(I_μ\ast u^{2^{\ast}_μ}\right)u^{{2}^{\ast}_μ-1},~~x\in\mathbb{R}^{N}, $$ where $0<μ<N$, if $N=3\ \hbox{or} \ 4$ and $0<μ\leq4$ if $N\geq5$, $I_μ$ is the Riesz potential defined by $$ I_μ(x)=\frac{Γ(\fracμ{2})}{Γ(\frac{N-μ}{2})π^{\frac{N}{2}}2^{N-μ}|x|^μ} $$ with $Γ(s)=\int^{+\infty}_{0}x^{s-1}e^{-x}dx$, $s>0$ and $2^{\ast}_μ=\frac{2N-μ}{N-2}$ is the upper critical exponent in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. We apply the moving plane method in integral forms to prove…
In this paper we deal with the well-posedness of Dirichlet problems associated to nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi parabolic equations in a bounded, smooth domain $Ω$, in the case when the classical boundary condition may be lost. We address the problem for both coercive and noncoercive Hamiltonians: for coercive Hamiltonians, our results rely more on the regularity properties of the solutions, while noncoercive case are related to optimal control problems and the arguments are based on a careful study of the dynamics near the boundary of the domain. Comparison principles for bounded sub and supersolu…
This work is devoted to examine the uniqueness and existence of kinetic solutions for a class of scalar conservation laws involving a nonlocal super-critical diffusion operator and a multiplicative noise. Our proof for uniqueness is based upon the analysis on double variables method and the existence is enabled by a parabolic approximation.
Let $J \in C(\mathbb{R})$, $J\ge 0$, $\int_{\tiny$\mathbb{R}$} J = 1$ and consider the nonlocal diffusion operator $\mathcal{M}[u] = J \star u - u$. We study the equation $\mathcal{M} u + f(x,u) = 0$, $u \ge 0$, in $\mathbb{R}$, where $f$ is a KPP-type nonlinearity, periodic in $x$. We show that the principal eigenvalue of the linearization around zero is well defined and that a nontrivial solution of the nonlinear problem exists if and only if this eigenvalue is negative. We prove that if, additionally, $J$ is symmetric, then the nontrivial solution is unique.

In this paper, the regularity properties of Cauchy problem for linear and nonlinear nonlocal wave equations are studied. The equation involves a convolution integral operators with a general kernel operator functions whose Fourier transform are operator functions defined in Hilbert space H together with some growth conditions. We establish local and global existence and uniqueness of solutions assuming enough smoothness on the initial data and the operator functions. By selecting the space H and the operators, the wide class of wave equations in the field of physics are obtained.
We investigate inverse problems in the determination of leading coefficients for nonlocal parabolic operators, by knowing the corresponding Cauchy data in the exterior space-time domain. The key contribution is that we reduce nonlocal parabolic inverse problems to the corresponding local inverse problems with the lateral boundary Cauchy data. In addition, we derive a new equation and offer a novel proof of the unique continuation property for this new equation. We also build both uniqueness and non-uniqueness results for both nonlocal isotropic and anisotropic parabolic Calderón problems, resp…
This paper concerns with existence, uniqueness and asymptotic behavior of the solutions for a nonlocal coupled system of reaction-diffusion. We prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions by the Faedo-Galerkin method and exponential decay of solutions by the classic energy method. We improve the results obtained by Chipot-Lovato and Menezes for coupled systems. A numerical scheme is presented.
In this manuscript we consider a non-local porous medium equation with non-local diffusion effects given by a fractional heat operator \begin{equation*} \partial_t u = \mbox{div}(u\nabla p),\qquad \partial_t p = -(-Δ)^s p + u^2, \end{equation*} in three space dimensions for $3/4\le s < 1$ and analyze the long time asymptotics. The proof is based on energy methods and leads to algebraic decay towards the stationary solution $u=0$ and $\nabla p=0$ in the $L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$-norm. The decay rate depends on the exponent $s$. We also show weak-strong uniqueness of solutions and continuous dependenc…
We examine equations of the form {eqnarray*} \{{array}{lcl} \hfill \HA u &=& λg(x) f(u) \qquad \text{in}\ Ω\hfill u&=& 0 \qquad \qquad \qquad \text{on}\ \pOm, {array}. {eqnarray*} where $ λ>0$ is a parameter and $ Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain in $ \IR^N$, $ N \ge 2$. Here $ g$ is a positive function and $ f$ is an increasing, convex function with $ f(0)=1$ and either $ f$ blows up at 1 or $ f$ is superlinear at infinity. We show that the extremal solution $u^*$ associated with the extremal parameter $ λ^*$ is the unique solution. We also show that when $f$ is suitably supercritical and $ Ω$ s…
We investigate existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of nonlinear nonlocal problems involving the fractional $p$-Laplacian operator and singular nonlinearities.
We address the uniqueness of the nonzero stationary state for a reaction-diffusion system of Fisher-KPP type that does not satisfy the comparison principle. Although the uniqueness is false in general, it turns out to be true under biologically natural assumptions on the parameters. This Liouville-type result is then used to characterize the wake of traveling waves. All results are extended to an analogous nonlocal reaction-diffusion equation that contains as a particular case the cane toads equation with bounded traits.
We study the nonlocal scalar field equation with a vanishing parameter \[ \left\{\begin{array}{lll} (-Δ)^s u+εu &=|u|^{p-2}u -|u|^{q-2}u \quad\text{in}\quad\mathbb{R}^N \\ u >0, & u \in H^s(\mathbb{R}^N), \end{array} \right. \] where $s\in(0,1)$, $N>2s$, $q>p>2$ are fixed parameters and $ε>0$ is a vanishing parameter. For $ε>0$ small, we prove the existence of a ground state solution and show that any positive solution of above problem is a classical solution and radially symmetric and symmetric decreasing. We also obtain the decay rate of solution at infinity. Next, we study the asymptotic be…
We are interested in nonlocal Eikonal Equations arising in the study of the dynamics of dislocations lines in crystals. For these nonlocal but also non monotone equations, only the existence and uniqueness of Lipschitz and local-in-time solutions were available in some particular cases. In this paper, we propose a definition of weak solutions for which we are able to prove the existence for all time. Then we discuss the uniqueness of such solutions in several situations, both in the monotone and non monotone case.
In this work we prove the uniqueness of solutions to the nonlocal linear equation $L φ- c(x)φ= 0$ in $\mathbb{R}$, where $L$ is an elliptic integro-differential operator, in the presence of a positive solution or of an odd solution vanishing only at zero. As an application, we deduce the nondegeneracy of layer solutions (bounded and monotone solutions) to the semilinear problem $L u = f(u)$ in $\mathbb{R}$ when the nonlinearity is of Allen-Cahn type. To our knowledge, this is the first work where such uniqueness and nondegeneracy results are proven in the nonlocal framework when the Caffarelli…
We prove the hair-trigger effect for a class of nonlocal nonlinear evolution equations on $\mathbb{R}^d$ which have only two constant stationary solutions, $0$ and $θ>0$. The effect consists in that the solution with an initial condition non identical to zero converges (when time goes to $\infty$) to $θ$ locally uniformly in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We find also sufficient conditions for existence, uniqueness and comparison principle in the considered equations.
This paper is devoted to existence and uniqueness results for classes of nonlinear diffusion equations (or systems) which may be viewed as regular perturbations of Wasserstein gradient flows. First, in the case. where the drift is a gradient (in the physical space), we obtain existence by a semi-implicit Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto scheme. Then, in the nonpotential case, we derive existence from a regularization procedure and parabolic energy estimates. We also address the uniqueness issue by a displacement convexity argument.
We study viscosity solutions to a system of nonlinear degenerate parabolic partial integro-differential equations with interconnected obstacles. This type of problem occurs in the context of optimal switching problems when the dynamics of the underlying state variable is described by an $n$-dimensional Levy process. We first establish a continuous dependence estimate for viscosity sub- and supersolutions to the system under mild regularity, growth and structural assumptions on the partial integro-differential operator and on the obstacles and terminal conditions. Using the continuous dependenc…
This paper deals with the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a nonlinear boundary value problem involving a sequential $ψ$-Hilfer fractional integro-differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions. The existence and uniqueness of solutions are established for the considered problem by using the Banach contraction principle, Sadovski's fixed point theorem, and Krasnoselskii-Schaefer fixed point theorem due to Burton and Kirk. In addition, the Ulam-Hyers stability of solutions is discussed. Finally, the obtained results are illustrated by examples.
We study a Cahn-Hilliard-Hele-Shaw (or Cahn-Hilliard-Darcy) system for an incompressible mixture of two fluids. The relative concentration difference $φ$ is governed by a convective nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equation with degenerate mobility and logarithmic potential. The volume averaged fluid velocity $\mathbf{u}$ obeys a Darcy's law depending on the so-called Korteweg force $μ\nabla φ$, where $μ$ is the nonlocal chemical potential. In addition, the kinematic viscosity $η$ may depend on $φ$. We establish first the existence of a global weak solution which satisfies the energy identity. Then we p…
We consider a diffuse interface model which describes the motion of an incompressible isothermal mixture of two immiscible fluids. This model consists of the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with a convective nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equation. Several results were already proven by two of the present authors. However, in the two-dimensional case, the uniqueness of weak solutions was still open. Here we establish such a result even in the case of degenerate mobility and singular potential. Moreover, we show the strong-weak uniqueness in the case of viscosity depending on the order parameter, provi…
We consider a small random perturbation of the energy functional $$ [u]^2_{H^s(Λ, R^d)} + \int_ΛW(u(x)) dx $$ for $s \in (0,1),$ where the non-local part $ [u]^2_{H^s(Λ,R^d)}$ denotes the total contribution from $Λ\subset R^d$ in the $H^s (R^d)$ Gagliardo semi-norm of $u$ and $W$ is a double well potential. We show that there exists, as $Λ$ invades $ R^d$, for almost all realizations of the random term a minimizer under compact perturbations, which is unique when $d=2$, $s \in (\frac 12,1)$ and when $d=1$, $s \in [\frac 14, 1).$ This uniqueness is a consequence of the randomness. When the rand…
We study the well-posedness of the vector-field Peierls-Nabarro model for curved dislocations with a double well potential and a bi-states limit at far field. Using the Dirichlet to Neumann map, the 3D Peierls-Nabarro model is reduced to a nonlocal scalar Ginzburg-Landau equation. We derive an integral formulation of the nonlocal operator, whose kernel is anisotropic and positive when Poisson's ratio $ν\in(-\frac12, \frac13)$. We then prove that any bounded stable solutions to this nonlocal scalar Ginzburg-Landau equation has a 1D profile, which corresponds to the PDE version of flatness resul…
