Let $ K $ be a compact subset of the $d$-torus invariant under an expanding diagonal endomorphism with $ s $ distinct eigenvalues. Suppose the symbolic coding of $K$ satisfies weak specification. When $ s \leq 2 $, we prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (A) the Hausdorff and box dimensions of $ K $ coincide; (B) with respect to some gauge function, the Hausdorff measure of $ K $ is positive and finite; (C) the Hausdorff dimension of the measure of maximal entropy on $ K $ attains the Hausdorff dimension of $ K $. When $ s \geq 3 $, we find some examples in which (A) does not hold but (C) holds, which is a new phenomenon not appearing in the planar cases. Through a different probabilistic approach, we establish the equivalence of (A) and (B) for Bedford-McMullen sponges.
The Hausdorff dimension of general Sierpinski carpets, [4] and [20], and the generalization on Lalley-Gatzouras carpets, [10], are today well known results, the formulas being obtain via the variational principle for the dimension. We call the multidimensional versions of these carpets Sierpinski sponges and self-affine sponges, respectively,. In this paper we show that the Hausdorff dimension of self-affine sponges, defined in R3, is a Lipschitz continuous function at Sierpinski sponges.
We compute the Hausdorff dimension of limit sets generated by 3-dimensional self-affine mappings with diagonal matrices of the form A_{ijk}=Diag(a_{ijk}, b_{ij}, c_{i}), where 0<a_{ijk}\le b_{ij}\le c_i<1. By doing so we show that the variational principle for the dimension holds for this class.
Mean Hausdorff dimension is a dynamical version of Hausdorff dimension. It provides a way to dynamicalize geometric measure theory. We pick up the following three classical results of fractal geometry. (1) The calculation of Hausdorff dimension of homogeneous sets in the circle. (2) The coincidence of Hausdorff and Minkowski dimensions for self-similar sets. (3) The calculation of Hausdorff dimension of Bedford--McMullen carpets. We develop their analogues for mean Hausdorff dimension: (1) The calculation of mean Hausdorff dimension of homogeneous systems in the infinite dimensional torus. (2)…

Let $I=[0,1)$, $-1<λ<1$ and $f\colon I\to I$ be a piecewise $λ$-affine map of the interval $I$, i.e., there exist a partition $0=a_0<a_1<\cdots< a_{k-1}<a_k=1$ of the interval $I$ into $k\geq2$ subintervals and $b_1,\ldots, b_k\in\mathbb{R}$ such that $f(x)=λx+ b_i$ for every $x\in[a_{i-1},a_{i})$ and $i=1,\ldots,k$. The exceptional set $\mathcal{E}_f$ of $f$ is the set of parameters $δ\in\mathbb{R}$ such that $R_δ\circ f$ is not asymptotically periodic, where $R_δ\colon I\to I$ is the rotation of angle $δ$. In this paper we prove that $\mathcal{E}_f$ has zero Hausdorff dimension. We derive th…
Let $X=\bigcupφ_{i}X$ be a strongly separated self-affine set in $\mathbb{R}^2$ (or one satisfying the strong open set condition). Under mild non-compactness and irreducibility assumptions on the matrix parts of the $φ_{i}$, we prove that $\dim X$ is equal to the affinity dimension, and similarly for self-affine measures and the Lyapunov dimension. The proof is via analysis of the dimension of the orthogonal projections of the measures, and relies on additive combinatorics methods.
We prove that if $μ$ is a self-affine measure in the plane whose defining IFS acts totally irreducibly on $\mathbb{RP}^1$ and satisfies an exponential separation condition, then its dimension is equal to its Lyapunov dimension. We also treat a class of reducible systems. This extends our previous work on the subject with Bárány to the overlapping case.

For a decreasing real valued function $ψ$, a pair $(A,\mathbf{b})$ of a real $m\times n$ matrix $A$ and $\mathbf{b}\in\mathbb{R}^m$ is said to be $ψ$-Dirichlet improvable if the system $$\|A\mathbf{q}+\mathbf{b}-\mathbf{p}\|^m < ψ(T)\quad\text{and}\quad\|\mathbf{q}\|^n < T$$ has a solution $\mathbf{p}\in\mathbb{Z}^m$, $\mathbf{q}\in\mathbb{Z}^n$ for all sufficiently large $T$, where $\|\cdot\|$ denotes the supremum norm. Kleinbock and Wadleigh (2019) established an integrability criterion for the Lebesgue measure of the $ψ$-Dirichlet non-improvable set. In this paper, we prove a similar criter…
Let $A$ be an $n\times n$ real expanding matrix and $\mathcal{D}$ be a finite subset of $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $0\in\mathcal{D}$. The family of maps $\{f_d(x)=A^{-1}(x+d)\}_{d\in\mathcal{D}}$ is called a self-affine iterated function system (self-affine IFS). The self-affine set $K=K(A,\mathcal{D})$ is the unique compact set determined by $(A, {\mathcal D})$ satisfying the set-valued equation $K=\displaystyle\bigcup_{d\in\mathcal{D}}f_d(K)$. The number $s=n\,\ln(\# \mathcal{D})/\ln(q)$ with $q=|\det(A)|$, is the so-called pseudo similarity dimension of $K$. As shown by He and Lau, one can associa…
We compute the Hausdorff dimension of any random statistically self-affine Sierpinski sponge $K\subset \mathbb{R}^k$ ($k\ge 2$) obtained by using some percolation process in $[0,1]^k$. To do so, we first exhibit a Ledrappier-Young type formula for the Hausdorff dimensions of statistically self-affine measures supported on $K$. This formula presents a new feature compared to its deterministic or random dynamical version. Then, we establish a variational principle expressing $\dim_H K$ as the supremum of the Hausdorff dimensions of statistically self-affine measures supported on $K$, and show th…
Let $m_1 \geq m_2 \geq 2$ be integers. We consider subsets of the product symbolic sequence space $(\{0,\cdots,m_1-1\} \times \{0,\cdots,m_2-1\})^{\mathbb{N}^*}$ that are invariant under the action of the semigroup of multiplicative integers. These sets are defined following Kenyon, Peres and Solomyak and using a fixed integer $q \geq 2$. We compute the Hausdorff and Minkowski dimensions of the projection of these sets onto an affine grid of the unit square. The proof of our Hausdorff dimension formula proceeds via a variational principle over some class of Borel probability measures on the st…
We prove that for all $b$, the Hausdorff dimension of the set of $m \times n$ matrices $ε$-badly approximable for the target $b$ is not full. The doubly metric case follows. It was known that for almost every matrix $A$, the Hausdorff dimension of the set $Bad_A(ε)$ of $ε$-badly approximable target $b$ is not full, and that for real numbers $α$, $\dim_H Bad_α(ε)=1$ if and only if $α$ is singular on average. We show that if $\dim_H Bad_A(ε)=m$, then $A$ is singular on average.

An affine iterated function system is a finite collection of affine invertible contractions and the invariant set associated to the mappings is called self-affine. In 1988, Falconer proved that, for given matrices, the Hausdorff dimension of the self-affine set is the affinity dimension for Lebesgue almost every translation vectors. Similar statement was proven by Jordan, Pollicott, and Simon in 2007 for the dimension of self-affine measures. In this article, we have an orthogonal approach. We introduce a class of self-affine systems in which, given translation vectors, we get the same results…
The sub-additive pressure function $P(s)$ for an affine iterated function system (IFS) and the affinity dimension, defined as the unique solution $s_0$ to $P(s_0)=1$, were introduced by K. Falconer in his seminal 1988 paper on self-affine fractals. The affinity dimension prescribes a value for the Hausdorff dimension of a self-affine set which is known to be correct in generic cases and in an increasing range of explicit cases. It was shown by Feng and Shmerkin in 2014 that the affinity dimension depends continuously on the IFS. In this article we prove that when the linear parts of the affini…

In 1988 K. Falconer introduced a formula which predicts the value of the Hausdorff dimension of the attractor of an affine iterated function system. The value given by this formula -- sometimes referred to as the affinity dimension -- is known to agree with the Hausdorff dimension both generically and in an increasing range of explicit cases. It is however a nontrivial problem to estimate the numerical value of the affinity dimension for specific iterated function systems. In this article we substantially extend an earlier result of M. Pollicott and P. Vytnova on the computation of the affinit…
The connected part of a metric space $E$ is defined to be the union of non-trivial connected components of $E$. We proved that for a class of self-affine sets called slicing self-affine sponges, the connected part of $E$ either coincides with $E$, or is essentially contained in the attractor of a proper sub-IFS of an iteration of the original IFS.This generalize an early result of Huang and Rao [L. Y. Huang, H. Rao. \emph{A dimension drop phenomenon of fractal cubes}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. \textbf{497} (2021), no. 2] on a class of self-similar sets called fractal cubes. Moreover, we show that t…
