The nonhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations are considered in a cylindrical domain in ${\mathbb R}^3$, parallel to the $x_3$-axis with large inflow and outflow on the top and the bottom. Moreover, on the lateral part of the cylinder the slip boundary conditions are assumed. The global existence of regular solutions is proved under assumptions that inflow and outflow are close to homogeneous and norms of derivative with respect to $x_3$ of the external force and initial velocity are sufficiently small. The key point of this paper is to verify that $x_3$-coordinate of velocity remains positive.
This paper is concerned with the Rayleigh-Taylor instability for the nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with Navier-slip boundary conditions around a steady-state in an infinite slab, where the Navier-slip coefficients do not have defined sign and the slab is horizontally periodic. Motivated by [18], we extend the result from Dirichlet boundary condition to Navier-slip boundary conditions. Our results indicate the factor that "heavier density with increasing height" still plays a key role in the instability under Navier-slip boundary conditions.
This paper proves a Serrin's type blow-up criterion for the 3D density-dependent Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations with vacuum. It is shown that if the density and velocity field satisfy some Serrin's type condition, then the strong solutions to the density-dependent Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations can exist globally.
In this paper, we establish the mathematical validity of the Prandtl boundary layer theory for a class of nonlinear plane parallel flow of nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The convergence for the density and velocity are shown under various Sobolev norms, including the physically important space-time uniform norm, as well as the $L^\infty(H^1)$ norm. It is mentioned that the mathematical validity of the Prandtl boundary layer theory for nonlinear plane parallel flow is generalized to the nonhomogeneous case.
In this paper, we investigate the vanishing viscosity limit for the 3D nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with a slip boundary condition. We establish the local well-posedness of the strong solutions for initial boundary value problems for such systems. Furthermore, the vanishing viscosity limit process is established and a strong rate of convergence is obtained as the boundary of the domain is flat. In addition, it is needed to add some additional condition for density to match well the boundary condition.
We study global well-posedness of strong solutions for the nonhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity and initial density allowing vanish in $\mathbb{R}^2$. Applying a logarithmic interpolation inequality and delicate energy estimates, we show the global existence of a unique strong solution provided that $\|\nablaμ(ρ_0)\|_{L^q}$ is suitably small, which improves the previous result of Huang and Wang [SIAM J. Math. Anal. 46, 1771--1788 (2014)] to the whole space case. Moreover, we also derive exponential decay rates of the solution. In particular, there is no need …
We consider the global existence and large-time asymptotic behavior of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem of the three-dimensional nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity and vacuum. We establish some key a priori exponential decay-in-time rates of the strong solutions. Then after using these estimates, we also obtain the global existence of strong solutions in the whole three-dimensional space, provided that the initial velocity is suitably small in the $\dot H^β$-norm for some $β\in(1/2,1].$ Note that this result is proved without any smalln…
We revisit the 2D Cauchy problem of nonhomogeneous heat conducting magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations in $\mathbb{R}^2$. For the initial density allowing vacuum at infinity, we derive the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the initial density and the initial magnetic decay not too slowly at infinity. In particular, the initial data can be arbitrarily large. This improves our previous work where the initial density has non-vacuum states at infinity. The result could also be viewed as an extension of the study in L{ü}-Xu-Zhong for the inhomogeneous case to the ful…
Global well-posedness and exponential decay of 2D nonhomogeneous Navier-Stokes and magnetohydrodynamic equations with density-dependent viscosity and vacuum
In this paper we study the nonhomongeneous boundary value problem for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations in two dimensional symmetric domains with finitely many outlets to infinity. The domains may have no self-symmetric outlet (V-type domain), one self-symmetric outlet (Y-type domain) or two self-symmetric outlets (I-type domain). We construct a symmetric solenoidal extension of the boundary value satisfying the Leray-Hopf inequality. After having such an extension, the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem is reduced to homogeneous one and the existence of at least one weak solution foll…
Global Well-posedness of Strong Solutions to the Cauchy Problem of 2D Nonhomogeneous Navier-Stokes Equations with Density-Dependent Viscosity and Vacuum
This paper discusses the solvability (global in time) of the initial-boundary value problem of the Navier-stokes equations in the half space when the initial data $ h\in \dot{ B}_{q σ}^{α-\frac{2}{q}}(\R_+)$ and the boundary data $ g\in \dot{ B}_q^{α-\frac{1}{q},\frac{\al}{2}-\frac{1}{2q}}({\mathbb R}^{n-1}\times {\mathbb R}_+) $ with $g_n\in \dot B^{\frac12 α}_q ({\mathbb R}_+; \dot B^{-\frac1q}_q ({\mathbb R}^{n-1}))\cap L^q({\mathbb R}_+;\dot{B}^{α-\frac{1}{q}}(\Rn))$, for any $0<α<2$ and $q =\frac{n+2}{α+1}$. Compatibility condition is required for $h$ and $g$.
In this paper, the three-dimensional stochastic nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations driven by Lévy process consisting of the Brownian motion, the compensated Poisson random measure and the Poisson random measure are considered in a bounded domain. We obtain the existence of martingale solutions. The construction of the solution is based on the classical Galerkin approximation method, stopping time, the compactness method and the Jakubowski-Skorokhod theorem.
We are concerned with an initial boundary value problem for the nonhomogeneous heat conducting Navier-Stokes flows with non-negative density. First of all, we show that for the initial density allowing vacuum, the strong solution exists globally if the velocity satisfies the Serrin's condition. Then, under some smallness condition, we prove that there is a unique global strong solution to the 3D viscous nonhomogeneous heat conducting Navier-Stokes flows. Our method relies upon the delicate energy estimates and regularity properties of Stokes system and elliptic equation.
Existence theorems for the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations with nonhomogeneous slip boundary conditions in two-dimensional multiply-connected bounded domains
In this paper we study the existence of at least two positive weak solutions for an inhomogeneous fourth order equation with Navier boundary data involving nonlinearities of critical growth with a bifurcation parameter $λ$ in $\mathbb{R}^{2m}$. We establish here the lower and upper bound for $λ$ which determine multiplicity and non-existence respectively.
We study the stationary nonhomogeneous Navier--Stokes problem in a two dimensional symmetric domain with a semi-infinite outlet (for instance, either parabo-\\loidal or channel-like). Under the symmetry assumptions on the domain, boundary value and external force we prove the existence of at least one weak symmetric solution without any restriction on the size of the fluxes, i.e. the fluxes of the boundary value ${\bf a}$ over the inner and the outer boundaries may be arbitrarily large. Only the necessary compatibility condition (the total flux is equal to zero) has to be satisfied. Moreover, …
We show that the Navier-Stokes as well as a random perturbation of this equation can be derived from a stochastic variational principle where the pressure is introduced as a Lagrange multiplier. Moreover we describe how to obtain corresponding constants of the motion.
In this paper, we rigorously derive the compressible one-fluid Navier-Stokes equation from the scaled compressible two-fluid Navier-Stokes-Maxwell equations locally in time under the assumption that the initial data are well prepared. We justify the singular limit by proving the uniform decay of the error system, which is obtained by elaborate energy estimates.
In this paper, we investigate the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem for the steady Navier-Stokes equations in a helically symmetric spatial domain. When data is assumed to be helical invariant and satisfies the compatibility condition, we prove this problem has at least one helical invariant solution.
The three-dimensional Navier-Stokes-$α$ model for fast rotating geophysical fluids is considered. The Navier-Stokes-$α$ model is a nonlinear dispersive regularization of the exact Navier-Stokes equations obtained by Lagrangian averaging and tend to the Navier-Stokes equations as $α\rightarrow 0^+$. We estimate upper bounds for the dimensions of global attractors and study the dependence of the dimensions on the parameter $α$. All the estimates are uniform in $α$, and our estimate of attractor dimensions remain finite when $α\rightarrow 0^+$.
We study Caccioppoli's inequalities of the non-stationary Stokes equations and Navier-Stokes equations. Our analysis is local near boundary and we prove that, in contrast to the interior case, the Caccioppoli's inequalities of the Stokes equations and the Navier-Stokes equations, in general, fail near boundary.
An algebraic upper bound for the decay rate of solutions to the Navier-Stokes and Navier-Stokes-Coriolis equations in the critical space $\dot{H} ^{\frac{1}{2}} (\mathbb{R} ^3)$ is derived using the Fourier Splitting Method. Estimates are framed in terms of the decay character of initial data, leading to solutions with algebraic decay and showing in detail the roles played by the linear and nonlinear parts.
In this paper, we first prove the global well-posedness of a scaled anisotropic Navier-Stokes system and the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes system in a 2-D striped domain with small analytic data in the tangential variable. Then we justify the limit from the anisotropic Navier-Stokes system to the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes system with analytic data.
In this paper, we shall establish the global well-posedness, the space-time analyticity of the Navier-Stokes equations for a class of large periodic data $u_0 \in BMO^{-1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. This improves the classical result of Koch \& Tataru \cite{koch-tataru}, for the global well-posedness with small initial data $u_0 \in BMO^{-1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$.
We study the stationary Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations with non-homogeneous Navier boundary condition in a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{3}$ of class $\mathcal{C}^{1,1}$. We prove existence, uniqueness of weak and strong solutions in $\mathbf{W}^{1,p}(Ω)$ and $\mathbf{W}^{2,p}(Ω)$ for all $1<p<\infty$ considering minimal regularity on the friction coefficient $α$. Moreover, we deduce uniform estimates on the solution with respect to $α$ which enables us to analyze the behavior of the solution when $α\rightarrow \infty$.
We introduce a framework to justify hydrodynamic limits of the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system. We specifically study high friction regimes, which take into account the fact that particles of the dispersed phase are light (resp. small) compared to the fluid part, and lead to the derivation of Transport-Navier-Stokes (resp. Inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes) systems.
In the note, a local regularity condition for axisymmetric solutions to the non-stationary 3D Navier-Stokes equations is proven. It reads that axially symmetric energy solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations have no Type I blowups.
Fundamental solutions to the time-periodic Stokes and Oseen linearizations of the Navier-Stokes equations in dimension $n\geq 2$ are investigated. Integrability properties and pointwise estimates are established.
In this paper, we justify the limit from the Navier-Stokes system in a thin domain to the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes/Prandtl system for the convex initial data with Gevrey 9/8 regualrity in $x$.
These notes are dedicated to the analysis of the one-dimensional free-congested Navier-Stokes equations. After a brief synthesis of the results obtained in [4] related to the existence and the asymptotic stability of partially congested profiles associated to the soft congestion Navier-Stokes system, we present a first local well-posedness result for the one-dimensional free-congested Navier-Stokes equations.
An enstrophy cascade is exhibited for the Navier-Stokes equations in physical scales independently of boundary conditions under physically reasonable assumptions on the flow.
In this paper, we study the upper bound of the time decay rate of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations and generalized Navier-Stokes equations with damping term $|u|^{β-1}u$ ($β>1$) in $\mathbb{R}^3$.
We study 2D Navier-Stokes equations with a constraint on $L^2$ energy of the solution. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for the constrained Navier-Stokes equation on $\R^2$ and $\T$, by a fixed point argument. We also show that the solution of constrained Navier-Stokes converges to the solution of Euler equation as viscosity $ν$ vanishes.
We prove in this paper a decay estimate for scaling invariant local energy solutions for some toy-models related to the incompressible Navier-Stokes system.
A Liouville type theorem is proven for the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. It follows from the corresponding theorem on the Stokes equations with the drift. The drift is supposed to belong to a certain Morrey space.
