In this paper, we characterize the vanishing of twisted central $L$-values attached to newforms of square-free level in terms of certain polynomials of quadratic forms introduced by Zagier and the action of finitely many Hecke operators thereon. To be more precise, we establish that a twisted central $L$-value attached to a newform vanishes if and only if a certain explicitly computable polynomial is constant. We describe these constants explicitly in two different ways. One of the descriptions involves the generalized Hurwitz class numbers, which were introduced by Pei and Wang in $2003$. We provide some numerical examples and conclude by offering some questions for future work.
Recently, the problem of bounding the sup norms of $L^2$-normalized cuspidal automorphic newforms $ϕ$ on $\text{GL}_2$ in the level aspect has received much attention. However at the moment strong upper bounds are only available if the central character $χ$ of $ϕ$ is not too highly ramified. In this paper, we establish a uniform upper bound in the level aspect for general $χ$. If the level $N$ is a square, our result reduces to $$\|ϕ\|_\infty \ll N^{\frac14+ε},$$ at least under the Ramanujan Conjecture. In particular, when $χ$ has conductor $N$, this improves upon the previous best known bound…
The Katz-Sarnak Density Conjecture states that zeros of families of $L$-functions are well-modeled by eigenvalues of random matrix ensembles. For suitably restricted test functions, this correspondence yields upper bounds for the families' order of vanishing at the central point. We generalize previous results on the $n$\textsuperscript{th} centered moment of the distribution of zeros to allow arbitrary test functions. On the computational side, we use our improved formulas to obtain significantly better bounds on the order of vanishing for cuspidal newforms, setting world records for the qual…
Let $\mathitΠ$ be a cohomological irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of ${\rm GL}_2(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb F})$ with central character $ω_{\mathitΠ}$ over a totally real number field ${\mathbb F}$. In this paper, we prove the algebraicity of the near central non-critical value of the symmetric fourth $L$-function of $\mathitΠ$ twisted by $ω_{\mathitΠ}^{-2}$. The algebraicity is expressed in terms of the Petersson norm of the normalized newform of $\mathitΠ$ and the top degree Whittaker period of the Gelbart-Jacquet lift ${\rm Sym}^2\mathitΠ$ of $\mathitΠ$.
A quadratic twist of the L-function associated with a modular form is known to satisfy a functional equation, which may be even or odd. A result due to Gross and Zagier explicitly computes the central value of the L-function or its derivative. In prime level when the functional equation is even, Michel and Ramakrishnan have used an averaging method to prove several consequences of the Gross-Zagier formulae, including a non-vanishing result. The present research concerns L-functions arising from newforms in prime-squared level, which necessarily have odd functional equations. Such an L-function…
We establish explicit Ichino's formulae for the central values of the triple product $L$-functions with emphasis on the calculations for the real place. The key ingredient for our computations is Proposition 6.8 which generalizes a result of Michel-Venkatesh. As an application we prove the optimal upper bound of a sum of restricted $L^2$-norms of the $L^2$-normalized newforms on certain quadratic extensions with prime level and bounded spectral parameter following the methods of Blomer.
We build a one-variable $p$-adic $L$-function attached to two Hida families of ordinary $p$-stabilised newforms $\mathbf{f}$, $\mathbf{g}$, interpolating the algebraic part of the central values of the complex $L$-series $L(f \otimes \textrm{Ad}(g), s)$ when $f$ and $g$ range over the classical specialisations of $\mathbf{f}$, $\mathbf{g}$ on a suitable line of the weight space. The construction rests on two major results: an explicit formula for the relevant complex central $L$-values, and the existence of non-trivial $Λ$-adic Shintani liftings and Saito--Kurokawa liftings studied in a previo…
In this paper, we consider central complete and incomplete Bell polynomials which are generalizations of the recently introduced central Bell polynomials and central analogues for the complete and incomplete Bell polynomials. We investigate some properties and identities for these polynomials. Especially, we give explicit formulas for the central complete and incomplete Bell polynomials related to central factorial numbers of the second kind.
In this paper, we introduce the extended r-central factorial numbers of the second and first kinds and the extended r-central Bell polynomials, as extended versions and central analogues of some previously introduced numbers and polynomials. Then we study various properties and identities related to these numbers and polynomials and also their connections.
In this paper, we study the degenerate central complete and incomplete Bell polynomials which are degenerate versions of the recently introduced central complete and incomplete Bell polynomials and also central analogues for the degenerate complete and incomplete Bell polynomials. We investigate some properties and identities for these polynomials.
In this paper, we introduce two variable degenerate Bell polynomials as a generalization of the degenerate Bell polynomials which were studied earlier. Among other things, we show their connections with Poisson degenerate central moments and Charlier polynomials.
In this paper, we introduce the degenerate central factorial polynomials and numbers of the second kind which are degenerate versions of the central factorial polynomials and numbers of the second kind. We derive some properties and identities for those polynomials and numbers. We obtain, among other things, recursive formulas for the degenerate central factorial polynomials and numbers of the second kind.
Here we study the recently introduced notion of a locally harmonic Maass form and its applications to the theory of $L$-functions. In particular, we find finite formulas for certain twisted central $L$-values of a family of elliptic curves in terms of finite sums over canonical binary quadratic forms. This yields vastly simpler formulas related to work of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer for such $L$-values, and extends beyond their framework to special non-CM elliptic curves.
We introduce the central Fubini-like numbers and polynomials using Rota approach. Several identities and properties are established as generating functions, recurrences, explicit formulas, parity, asymptotics and determinantal representation.
We introduce a sequence $P_{2n}$ of monic reciprocal polynomials with integer coefficients having the central coefficients fixed. We prove that the ratio between number of nonunimodular roots of $P_{2n}$ and its degree $d$ has a limit when $d$ tends to infinity. We present an algorithm for calculation the limit and a numerical method for its approximation. If $P_{2n}$ is the sum of a fixed number of monomials we determine the central coefficients such that the ratio has the minimal limit. We generalise the limit of the ratio for multivariate polynomials. Some examples suggest a theorem for pol…
Degenerate Dowling and degenerate r-Dowling polynomials were introduced earlier as degenerate versions and further generalizations of Dowling and r-Dowling polynomials. The aim of this paper is to show their connections with Poisson degenerate central moments for a Poisson random variable with a certain parameter and with Charlier polynomials.
The central binomial series at negative integers are expressed as a linear combination of values of certain two polynomials. We show that one of the polynomials is a special value of the bivariate Eulerian polynomial and the other polynomial is related to the antidiagonal sum of poly-Bernoulli numbers. As an application, we prove Stephan's observation from 2004.
