Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a classical complex simple Lie algebra. Let $L(λ)$ be a highest weight module of $\mathfrak{g}$ with highest weight $λ-ρ$, where $ρ$ is half the sum of positive roots. The associated variety of the annihilator ideal of $L(λ)$ is called the annihilator variety of $L(λ)$.It is known that the annihilator variety of any highest weight module $L(λ)$ is the Zariski closure of a nilpotent orbit in $\mathfrak{g}^*$. But in general, this nilpotent orbit is not easy to describe for a given highest weight module $L(λ)$. In this paper, we will give some simple formulas to characterize this unique nilpotent orbit appearing in the annihilator variety of a highest weight module for classical Lie algebras. Our formulas are given by introducing two algorithms, i.e., bipartition algorithm and partition algorithm. To get a special or metaplectic special partition from a domino type partition, we define the H-algorithm based on the Robinson-Schensted insertion algorithm. By using this H-algorithm, we can easily determine this nilpotent orbit from the information of $λ$.
We give a criterion for the annihilator in U$(\frak{sl}(\infty))$ of a simple highest weight $\frak{sl}(\infty)$-module to be nonzero. As a consequence we show that, in contrast with the case of $\frak{sl}(n)$, the annihilator in U$(\frak{sl}(\infty))$ of any simple highest weight $\frak{sl}(\infty)$-module is integrable, i.e., coincides with the annihilator of an integrable $\frak{sl}(\infty)$-module. Furthermore, we define the class of ideal Borel subalgebras of $\frak{sl}(\infty)$, and prove that any prime integrable ideal in U$(\frak{sl}(\infty))$ is the annihilator of a simple $\frak b^0$…
In this paper we study irreducible unitary representations of GL(n,R) and prove a number of results. Our first result establishes a precise connection between the annihilator of a representation and the existence of degenerate Whittaker functionals, for both smooth and K-finite vectors, thereby generalizing results of Kostant, Matumoto and others. Our second result relates the annihilator to the sequence of highest derivatives, as defined in this setting by one of the authors. Based on those results, we suggest a new notion of rank of a smooth admissible representation of GL(n,R), which for un…
Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}(\infty)$. We compute the annihilators of a class of simple integrable weight $\mathfrak{g}$-modules with finite-dimensional weight spaces. It is a claim of I. Dimitrov, that this class exhausts all simple integrable weight $\mathfrak{g}$-modules with finite-dimensional weight spaces. The main feature of interest is that Dimitrov's class of modules contains non highest weight modules. Here we provide another construction for these modules, which allows to apply results of [PP18] to compute such annihilators.
For a special class of generalized Weyl algebras, we prove a Duflo theorem stating that the annihilator of any simple module is in fact the annihilator of a simple highest weight module.
Given a simple Harish-Chandra module for this group of trivial infinitesimal character, parametrized by a signed involution, we produce combinatorial recipes for attaching to it a pair of tableaux from which its annihilator and associated variety can be read off.
For a smooth algebraic variety $X$, we study the category of finitely generated modules over the ring of function of $X$ that has a compatible action of the Lie algebra $\mathcal{V}$ of polynomials vector fields on $X$. We show that the associated representation of $\mathcal{V}$ is given by a differential operator of order depending on the rank of the module. The order of the differential operator provides a natural measure of the complexity of the representation, with the simplest case being that of $D$-modules.
We study a category of modules over $\mathfrak{gl}(\infty)$ analogous to category $\mathcal O$. We fix adequate Cartan, Borel and Levi-type subalgebras $\mathfrak h, \mathfrak b$ and $\mathfrak l$ with $\mathfrak l \cong \mathfrak{gl}(\infty)^n$, and define $\mathcal O_{\mathsf{LA}}^{\mathfrak l}{\mathfrak{gl}(\infty)}$ to be the category of $\mathfrak h$-semisimple, $\mathfrak n$-nilpotent modules that satisfy a large annihilator condition as $\mathfrak l$-modules. Our main result is that these are highest weight categories in the sense of Cline, Parshall and Scott. We compute the simple mult…
A well known theorem of Duflo claims that the annihilator of a Verma module in the enveloping algebra of a complex semisimple Lie algebra is generated by its intersection with the centre. For a Lie superalgebra this result fails to be true. For instance, in the case of the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra osp(1,2), Pinczon gave in [Pi] an example of a Verma module whose annihilator is not generated by its intersection with the centre of universal enveloping algebra. More generally, Musson produced in [Mu1] a family of such "singular" Verma modules for osp(1,2l) cases. In this article we give a…
We provide a review of results on two-sided ideals in the enveloping algebra U$(\frak g(\infty))$ of a locally simple Lie algebra $\frak g(\infty)$. We pay special attention to the case when $\frak g(\infty)$ is one of the finitary Lie algebras $\frak{sl}(\infty), \frak o(\infty), \frak{sp}(\infty)$. The main results include a description of all integrable ideals in U$(\frak g(\infty))$, as well as a criterion for the annihilator of an arbitrary (not necessarily integrable) simple highest weight module to be nonzero. This criterion is new for $\frak g(\infty)=\frak o(\infty), \frak{sp}(\infty)…
The purpose of the present work is to describe a dequantization procedure for topological modules over a deformed algebra. We define the characteristic variety of a topological module as the common zeroes of the annihilator of the representation obtained by setting the deformation parameter to zero. On the other hand, the Poisson characteristic variety is defined as the common zeroes of the ideal obtained by considering the annihilator of the deformed representation, and only then setting the deformation parameter to zero. Using Gabber's theorem, we show the involutivity of the characteristic …
Let $\frak g$ be a semisimple Lie algebra and $\frak k\subset\frak g$ be a reductive subalgebra. We say that a $\frak g$-module $M$ is a bounded $(\frak g, \frak k)$-module if $M$ is a direct sum of simple finite-dimensional $\frak k$-modules and the multiplicities of all simple $\frak k$-modules in that direct sum are universally bounded. The goal of this article is to show that the "boundedness" property for a simple $(\frak g, \frak k)$-module $M$ is equivalent to a property of the associated variety of the annihilator of $M$ (this is the closure of a nilpotent coadjoint orbit inside $\frak…
For a semisimple Lie algebra defined over a discrete valuation ring with field of fractions $K$, we prove that any primitive ideal with rational central character in the affinoid enveloping algebra, $\widehat{U(\mathfrak{g})_{K}},$ is the annihilator of an affinoid highest weight module.
Let $\frak g$ be a finite dimensional complex semi-simple Lie algebra with Weyl group $W$ and simple reflections $S$. For $I\subseteq S$ let $\frak g_I$ be the corresponding semi-simple subalgebra of $\frak g$. Denote by $W_I$ the Weyl group of $\frak g_I$ and let $w_o$ and $w^I_o$ be the longest elements of $W$ and $W_I$, respectively. In this paper we show that the answer to Kostant's problem, i.e. whether the universal enveloping algebra surjects onto the space of all ad-finite linear transformations of a given module, is the same for the simple highest weight $\frak g_I$-module $L_I(x)$ of…
We present an algorithm which computes the annihilator in ${\rm U}(\frak{sl}(\infty))$ of any simple highest weight $\frak{sl}(\infty)$-module $L_\frak b(λ)$. This algorithm is based on an infinite version of the Robinson-Schensted algorithm.
We prove faithfulness of infinite-dimensional generalised Verma modules for Iwasawa algebras corresponding to split simple Lie algebras with a Chevalley basis. We use this to prove faithfulness of all infinite-dimensional highest-weight modules in the case of type $A_{2}$. In this case we also show that all prime ideals of the corresponding Iwasawa algebras are annihilators of finite-dimensional simple modules.
Let g be a semisimple Lie algebra with h a Cartan subalgebra. The orbit method attempts to assign representations of g to orbits in g*. Orbital varieties are particular Lagrangian subvarieties of such orbits which should lead to highest weight representations of g. It is known that all unitary highest weight representations can be obtained in this fashion. A hypersurface orbital variety is one which is of codimension 1 in the nilradical of a parabolic. Their classification for g = sl(n) obtains from general results. Recently Benlolo and Sanderson conjectured the form of the (non-linear) elemen…
We construct a divided difference operator using GKM theory. This generalizes the classical divided difference operator for the cohomology of the complete flag variety. This construction proves a special case of a recent conjecture of Shareshian and Wachs. Our methods are entirely combinatorial and algebraic, and rely heavily on the combinatorics of root systems and Bruhat order.
Let G be a semi simple linear algebraic group over a field of characteristic zero and let V be a finite dimensional irreducible G-module with highest weight vector v. Let P in G be the parabolic subgroup fixing v and let g=Lie(G). We get a canonical filtration of V by P-modules U^k(g)v where U^k(g) is the filtration of the universal enveloping algebra U(g). This filtration was in a previous paper studied in the case where P in G=SL(E) is the subgroup fixing an m-dimensional subspace. The aim of this paper is to use higher direct images of G-linearized sheaves, filtrations of generalized Verma …
We prove that for every complex classical group $G$ the string polytope associated to a special reduced decomposition and any dominant integral weight $λ$ will be a lattice polytope if and only if the highest weight representation of the Lie algebra of $G$ with highest weight $λ$ integrates to a representation of $G$ itself. This affirms an earlier conjecture and shows that every partial flag variety of a complex classical group admits a flat projective degeneration to a Gorenstein Fano toric variety.
We show that simple highest weight modules for sl_12 may have reducible characteristic variety. This answers a question of Borho-Brylinski and Joseph from 1984. The relevant singularity under Beilinson-Bernstein localization is the (in)famous Kashiwara-Saito singularity. We sketch the rather indirect route via the p-canonical basis, W-graphs and decomposition numbers for perverse sheaves that led us to examine this singularity.
Let $ (G,K) $ be an irreducible Hermitian symmetric pair of non-compact type with $G=SU(p,q)$, and let $ λ$ be an integral weight such that the simple highest weight module $ L(λ) $ is a Harish-Chandra $ (\mathfrak{g},K) $-module. We give a combinatoric algorithm for the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of $ L(λ) $. This enables us to prove that the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of $ L(λ) $ decreases as the integer $ \langleλ+ρ,β^\vee\rangle $ increases, where $ρ$ is the half sum of positive roots and $β$ is the maximal noncompact root. As a byproduct, we obtain a description on the associated variety …
For a semisimple Lie algebra g the orbit method attempts to assign representations of g to (coadjoint) orbits in g*. Orbital varieties are particular Lagrangian subvarieties of such orbits leading to highest weight representations of g. In sl(n) orbital varieties are described by Young tableaux. In this paper we consider so called Richardson orbital varieties in sl(n). A Richardson orbital variety is an orbital variety whose closure is a standard nilradical. We show that in sl(n) a Richardson orbital variety closure is a union of orbital varieties. We give a complete combinatorial description …
We consider self-injective finite-dimensional graded algebras admitting a triangular decomposition. In a preceding paper, we have shown that the graded module category of such an algebra is a highest weight category and has tilting objects in the sense of Ringel. In this paper we focus on the degree zero part of the algebra, the core of the algebra. We show that the core captures essentially all relevant information about the graded representation theory. Using tilting theory, we show that the core is cellular. We then describe a canonical construction of a highest weight cover, in the sense o…
We present a criterion for establishing Morita equivalence of monoidal categories, and apply it to the categorical representation theory of reductive groups $G$. We show that the "de Rham group algebra" $\mathcal D(G)$ (the monoidal category of $\mathcal D$-modules on $G$) is Morita equivalent to the universal Hecke category $\mathcal D(N \backslash G/N)$ and to its monodromic variant $\widetilde{\mathcal D}(B \backslash G / B)$. In other words, de Rham $G$-categories, i.e., module categories for $\mathcal D(G)$, satisfy a "highest weight theorem" - they all appear in the decomposition of the …
For a semisimple Lie algebra g the orbit method attempts to assign representations of g to (coadjoint) orbits in g*. Orbital varieties are particular Lagrangian subvarieties of such orbits leading to highest weight representations of g. In sl(n) orbital varieties are described by Young tableaux. Inclusion relation on orbital variety closures defines a partial order on Young tableaux. Our aim is to describe this order. The paper is devoted to the combinatorial description of induced Duflo order on Young tableaux (the order generated by inclusion of generating subspaces of orbital varieties). Th…
For a Dynkin quiver $Q$ (of type ADE), we consider a central completion of the convolution algebra of the equivariant K-group of a certain Steinberg type graded quiver variety. We observe that it is affine quasi-hereditary and prove that its category of finite-dimensional modules is identified with a block of Hernandez-Leclerc's monoidal category $\mathcal{C}_Q$ of modules over the quantum loop algebra $U_q(L\mathfrak{g})$ via Nakajima's homomorphism. As an application, we show that Kang-Kashiwara-Kim's generalized quantum affine Schur-Weyl duality functor gives an equivalence between the cate…
For any Hermitian Lie group $G$ of tube type we give a geometric quantization procedure of certain $K_{\mathbb{C}}$-orbits in $\mathfrak{p}_{\mathbb{C}}^*$ to obtain all scalar type highest weight representations. Here $K_{\mathbb{C}}$ is the complexification of a maximal compact subgroup $K\subseteq G$ with corresponding Cartan decomposition $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{k}+\mathfrak{p}$ of the Lie algebra of $G$. We explicitly realize every such representation $π$ on a Fock space consisting of square integrable holomorphic functions on its associated variety $Ass(π)\subseteq\mathfrak{p}_{\mathbb{C…
Using the tensor product variety introduced by Malkin and Nakajima, the complete structure of the tensor product of a finite number of integrable highest weight modules of U_q(sl_2) is recovered. In particular, the elementary basis, Lusztig's canonical basis, and the basis adapted to the decomposition of the tensor product into simple modules are all exhibited as distiguished elements of certain spaces of invariant functions on the tensor product variety. For the latter two bases, these distinguished elements are closely related to the irreducible components of the tensor product variety. The …
In his work on crystal bases \cite{Kas}, Kashiwara introduced a certain degeneration of the quantized universal enveloping algebra of a semi-simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$, which he called a quantum boson algebra. In this paper, we construct Kashiwara operators associated to all positive roots and use them to define a variant of Kashiwara's quantum boson algebra. We show that a quasi-classical limit of the positive half of our variant is a Poisson algebra of the form $(P \simeq \mathbb C[\mathfrak n^{\ast}], \, \{~~,~~\}_P)$, where $\mathfrak n$ is the positive part of $\mathfrak g$ and $\{~…
We construct twisted $\mathcal{D}$-modules on the projective line $\mathbb{P}^1$ that are equivariant for the action of the diagonal torus subgroup of $SL_2$. In the most interesting case these arise as extensions from local systems on $\mathbb{C}^{\times}$. We discuss their subquotient structure. Their sheaf cohomology groups are weight modules for the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. We also discuss their subquotient structure and in case these modules are not the familiar highest or lowest weight modules, we give an explicit presentation for them. Our computations illustrate some basic $\math…
We study a family of posets and the associated chain and order polytopes. We identify the order polytope as a maximal Kogan face in a Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope of a multiple of a fundamental weight. We show that the character of such a Kogan face equals to the character of a Demazure module which occurs in the irreducible representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ having highest weight multiple of fundamental weight and for any such Demazure module there exists a corresponding poset and associated maximal Kogan face. We prove that the chain polytope parametrizes a monomial basis of the associated PBW-…
The Weyl modules in the sense of V.Chari and A.Pressley [CP] over the current Lie algebra on an affine variety are studied. We show that local Weyl modules are finite-dimensional and generalize the tensor product decomposition theorem from [CP]. More explicit results are stated for currents on a non-singular affine variety of dimension $d$ with coefficients in the Lie algebra $sl_r$. The Weyl modules with highest weights proportional to the vector representation one are related to the multi-dimensional analogs of harmonic functions. The dimensions of such local Weyl modules are calculated in t…
Let g be an affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra and let $λ, μ$ be two dominant integral weights for g. We prove that under some mild restriction, for any positive root $β$, $V(λ)\otimes V(μ)$ contains $V(λ+μ-β)$ as a component, where $V(λ)$ denotes the integrable highest weight (irreducible) g-module with highest weight $λ$. This extends the corresponding result by Kumar from the case of finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebras to the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. One crucial ingredient in the proof is the action of Virasoro algebra via the Goddard-Kent-Olive construction on the tensor product $V(…
The symplectic group branching algebra, B, is a graded algebra whose components encode the multiplicities of irreducible representations of Sp(2n-2,C) in each irreducible representation of Sp(2n,C). By describing on B an ASL structure, we construct an explicit standard monomial basis of B consisting of Sp(2n-2,C) highest weight vectors. Moreover, B is known to carry a canonical action of the n-fold product SL(2) \times ... \times SL(2), and we show that the standard monomial basis is the unique (up to scalar) weight basis associated to this representation. Finally, using the theory of Hibi alg…
Attached to a weight space in an integrable highest weight representation of a simply-laced Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, there are two natural commutative algebras: the cohomology ring of a quiver variety and the center of a cyclotomic KLR algebra. In this note, we describe a natural geometric map between these algebras in terms of quantum coherent sheaves on quiver varieties. The cohomology ring of an algebraic symplectic variety can be interpreted as the Hochschild cohomology of a quantization of this variety in the sense of Bezrukavnikov and Kaledin. On the other hand, cyclotomic KLR a…
We consider finite W-algebras U(g,e) associated to even multiplicity nilpotent elements in classical Lie algebras. We give a classification of finite dimensional irreducible U(g,e)-modules with integral central character in terms of the highest weight theory for finite W-algebras. As a corollary, we obtain a parametrization of primitive ideals of U(g) with associated variety the closure of the adjoint orbit of e and integral central character.
