A time-changed fractional mixed fractional Brownian motion by inverse alpha stable subordinator with index alpha in (0, 1) is an iterated process L constructed as the superposition of fractional mixed fractional Brownian motion N(a, b) and an independent inverse α-stable subordinator Talpha. In this paper we prove that the process LT alpha(a, b) is of long range dependence property under a smooth condition on the Hirsh index H1 and H2. We deduce that the fractional mixed fractional Brownian motion has long range dependence for every H1 < H2.
In the paper we present the governing equations for marginal distributions of Poisson and Skellam processes time-changed by inverse subordinators. The equations are given in terms of convolution-type derivatives.
A time-changed mixed fractional Brownian motion is an iterated process constructed as the superposition of mixed fractional Brownian motion and other process. In this paper we consider mixed fractional Brownian motion of parameters a, b and H\in(0, 1) time-changed by two processes, gamma and tempered stable subordinators. We present their main properties paying main attention to the long range dependence. We deduce that the fractional Brownian motion time-changed by gamma and tempered stable subordinators has long range dependence property for all H\in(0, 1).
In this paper, we consider a type of time-changed Markov process, where the time-change is an inverse killed subordinator. This can be seen as an extension of Chen (Chen, Z., Time fractional equations and probabilistic representation, Chaos Solitons and Fractals, 168-174, 2017). As a result, it constructs a one-to-one correspondence between general Bernstein functions (with infinite Lévy measure) and a class of generalized time-fractional partial differential equations.
In this paper we will take under consideration subordinators and their inverse processes (hitting-times). We will present in general the governing equations of such processes by means of convolution-type integro-differential operators similar to the fractional derivatives. Furthermore we will discuss the concept of time-changed $C_0$-semigroup in case the time-change is performed by means of the hitting-time of a subordinator. We will show that such time-change give rise to bounded linear operators not preserving the semigroup property and we will present their governing equations by using aga…
The spectral heat content is investigated for time-changed killed Brownian motions on C1,1 open sets, where the time change is given by either a subordinator or an inverse subordinator, with the underlying Laplace exponent being regularly varying at \infty with index β\in (0, 1). In the case of inverse subordinators, the asymptotic limit of the spectral heat content is shown to involve a probabilistic term depending only on β\in (0, 1). In contrast, in the case of subordinators, this universality holds only when β\in ( 1/2 , 1).
This paper establishes Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov type equations for time-changed Gaussian processes. Examples include those equations for a time-changed fractional Brownian motion with time-dependent Hurst parameter and for a time-changed Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. The time-change process considered is the inverse of either a stable subordinator or a mixture of independent stable subordinators.
We consider time-changed Poisson processes, and derive the governing difference-differential equations (DDE) these processes. In particular, we consider the time-changed Poisson processes where the the time-change is inverse Gaussian, or its hitting time process, and discuss the governing DDE's. The stable subordinator, inverse stable subordinator and their iterated versions are also considered as time-changes. DDE's corresponding to probability mass functions of these time-changed processes are obtained. Finally, we obtain a new governing partial differential equation for the tempered stable …
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the time-changed stochastic process $\vphantom{X}^f\!X(t)=B(\vphantom{S}^f\!S (t))$, where $B$ is a standard one-dimensional Brownian motion and $\vphantom{S}^f\!S$ is the (generalized) inverse of a subordinator, i.e. the first-passage time process corresponding to an increasing Lévy process with Laplace exponent $f$. This type of processes plays an important role in statistical physics in the modeling of anomalous subdiffusive dynamics. The main result of the paper is the proof of the mixing property for the sequence of stationary increments of a subdiffus…
A Brownian time process is a Markov process subordinated to the absolute value of an independent one-dimensional Brownian motion. Its transition densities solve an initial value problem involving the square of the generator of the original Markov process. An apparently unrelated class of processes, emerging as the scaling limits of continuous time random walks, involve subordination to the inverse or hitting time process of a classical stable subordinator. The resulting densities solve fractional Cauchy problems, an extension that involves fractional derivatives in time. In this paper, we will…
Stochastic processes time-changed by an inverse subordinator have been suggested as a way to model the price of assets in illiquid markets, where the jumps of the subordinator correspond to periods of time where one is unable to sell an asset. We develop an excursion theory for time-changed reflected Brownian motion and use this to express the price of certain European options with Parisian barrier condition in terms of solutions of a time-fractional PDE. We provide a general description of the occupation measures of time-changed processes and use this to prove a Ray-Knight theorem for the occ…
We study the large-time and small-time asymptotic behaviors of the spectral heat content for time-changed stable processes, where the time change belongs to a large class of inverse subordinators. For the large-time behavior, the spectral heat content decays polynomially with the decay rate determined by the Laplace exponent of the underlying subordinator, which is in sharp contrast to the exponential decay observed in the case when the time change is a subordinator. On the other hand, the small-time behavior exhibits three different decay regimes, where the decay rate is determined by both th…
In the paper we consider time-changed Poisson processes where the time is expressed by compound Poisson-Gamma subordinators $G(N(t))$ and derive the expressions for their hitting times. We also study the time-changed Poisson processes where the role of time is played by the processes of the form $G(N(t)+at)$ and by the iteration of such processes.
We describe the CGMY and Meixner processes as time changed Brownian motions. The CGMY uses a time change absolutely continuous with respect to the one-sided stable $(Y/2)$ subordinator while the Meixner time change is absolutely continuous with respect to the one sided stable $(1/2)$ subordinator$.$ The required time changes may be generated by simulating the requisite one-sided stable subordinator and throwing away some of the jumps as described in Rosinski (2001).
We exhibit, in the form of some identities in law, some connections between tilted stable subordinators, time-changed by independent Gamma processes and the occupation times of Bessel spiders, or their bridges. These identities in law are then explained thanks to excursion theory.
In this paper, we analyze a L{é}vy model based on two popular concepts - subordination and L{é}vy copulas. More precisely, we consider a two-dimensional L{é}vy process such that each component is a time-changed (subordinated) Brownian motion and the dependence between subordinators is described via some L{é}vy copula. We prove a series representation for our model, which can be efficiently used for simulation purposes, and provide some practical examples based on real data
We give a representation of the Gamma subordinator as a Krein functional of Brownian motion, using the known representations for stable subordinators and Esscher transforms. In particular, we have obtained Krein representations of the subordinators which govern the two parameter Poisson-Dirichlet family of distributions.
In this paper, we study a Skellam type variant of the generalized counting process (GCP), namely, the generalized Skellam process. Some of its distributional properties such as the probability mass function, probability generating function, mean, variance and covariance are obtained. Its fractional version, namely, the generalized fractional Skellam process (GFSP) is considered by time-changing it with an independent inverse stable subordinator. It is observed that the GFSP is a Skellam type version of the generalized fractional counting process (GFCP) which is a fractional variant of the GCP.…
We introduce a non-homogeneous version of the generalized counting process (GCP), namely, the non-homogeneous generalized counting process (NGCP). We time-change the NGCP by an independent inverse stable subordinator to obtain its fractional version, and call it as the non-homogeneous generalized fractional counting process (NGFCP). A generalization of the NGFCP is obtained by time-changing the NGCP with an independent inverse subordinator. We derive the system of governing differential-integral equations for the marginal distributions of the increments of NGCP, NGFCP and its generalization. T…
The first passage time process of a Lévy subordinator with heavy-tailed Lévy measure has long-range dependent paths. The random fluctuations that appear under two natural schemes of summation and time scaling of such stochastic processes are shown to converge weakly. The limit process is fractional Brownian motion in one case and a non-Gaussian and non-stable process in the other case. The latter appears to be of independent interest as a random process that arises under the influence of coexisting Gaussian and stable domains of attraction and is known from other applications to provide a brid…
In this paper, an approximate version of the Barndorff-Nielsen and Shephard model, driven by a Brownian motion and a Lévy subordinator, is formulated. The first-exit time of the log-return process for this model is analyzed. It is shown that with certain probability, the first-exit time process of the log-return is decomposable into the sum of the first exit time of the Brownian motion with drift, and the first exit time of a Lévy subordinator with drift. Subsequently, the probability density functions of the first exit time of some specific Lévy subordinators, connected to stationary, self-de…
In this paper, we study the fractional Poisson process (FPP) time-changed by an independent Lévy subordinator and the inverse of the Lévy subordinator, which we call TCFPP-I and TCFPP-II, respectively. Various distributional properties of these processes are established. We show that, under certain conditions, the TCFPP-I has the long-range dependence property and also its law of iterated logarithm is proved. It is shown that the TCFPP-II is a renewal process and its waiting time distribution is identified. Its bivariate distributions and also the governing difference-differential equation are…
We investigate the 3rd term of spectral heat content for killed subordinate and subordinate killed Brownian motions on a bounded open interval D = (a, b) in a real line when the underlying subordinators are stable subordinators with index αis in (1, 2) or α= 1. We prove that in the 3rd term of spectral heat content, one can observe the length b-a of the interval D.
In this paper, we consider transient subordinate Brownian motion X in R^d, d \geq 1, where the Laplace exponent ϕof the corresponding subordinator satisfies some mild conditions. The scaleinvariant Harnack inequality is proved for X. We first give new forms of asymptotical properties of the Levy and potential density of the subordinator near zero. Using these results we find asymptotics of the Levy density and potential density of X near the origin, which is essential to our approach. The examples which are covered by our results include geometric stable processes and relativistic geometric st…
In this article, we study the Poisson process of order k (PPoK) time-changed with an independent Lévy subordinator and its inverse, which we call respectively, as TCPPoK-I and TCPPoK-II, through various distributional properties, long-range dependence and limit theorems for the PPoK and the TCPPoK-I. Further, we study the governing difference-differential equations of the TCPPoK-I for the case inverse Gaussian subordinator. Similarly, we study the distributional properties, asymptotic moments and the governing difference-differential equation of TCPPoK-II. As an application to ruin theory, we …
We consider the infinite divisibility of distributions of some well-known inverse subordinators. Using a tail probability bound, we establish that distributions of many of the inverse subordinators used in the literature are not infinitely divisible. We further show that the distribution of a renewal process time-changed by an inverse stable subordinator is not infinitely divisible, which in particular implies that the distribution of the fractional Poisson process is not infinitely divisible.
This paper establishes a discretization scheme for a large class of stochastic differential equations driven by a time-changed Brownian motion with drift, where the time change is given by a general inverse subordinator. The scheme involves two types of errors: one generated by application of the Euler-Maruyama scheme and the other ascribed to simulation of the inverse subordinator. With the two errors carefully examined, the orders of strong and weak convergence are derived. Numerical examples are attached to support the convergence results.
A subordinate Brownian motion $X$ is a Lévy process which can be obtained by replacing the time of the Brownian motion by an independent subordinator. In this paper, when the Laplace exponent $ϕ$ of the corresponding subordinator satisfies some mild conditions, we first prove the scale invariant boundary Harnack inequality for $X$ on arbitrary open sets. Then we give an explicit form of sharp two-sided estimates on the Green functions of these subordinate Brownian motions in any bounded $C^{1,1}$ open set. As a consequence, we prove the boundary Harnack inequality for $X$ on any $C^{1,1}$ open…
For a class of Laplace exponents we derive the heat trace asymptotics of the generator of the corresponding subordinate Brownian motion on Euclidean space. The terms in the asymptotic expansion are found to depend both on the geometry of Euclidean space and probabilistic properties of the subordinator. The key assumption is the existence of a suitable density for the Levy measure of the subordinator. An intermediate step is the computation of the zeta function of the generator. We employ methods from the theory of classical pseudodifferential operators on Euclidean space. The analysis is highl…
The space-fractional and the time-fractional Poisson processes are two well-known models of fractional evolution. They can be constructed as standard Poisson processes with the time variable replaced by a stable subordinator and its inverse, respectively. The aim of this paper is to study non-homogeneous versions of such models, which can be defined by means of the so-called multistable subordinator (a jump process with non-stationary increments), denoted by H. Firstly, we consider the Poisson process time-changed by H and we obtain its explicit distribution and governing equation. Then, by us…
We consider plain vanilla European options written on an underlying asset that follows a continuous time semi-Markov multiplicative process. We derive a formula and a renewal type equation for the martingale option price. In the case in which intertrade times follow the Mittag-Leffler distribution, under appropriate scaling, we prove that these option prices converge to the price of an option written on geometric Brownian motion time-changed with the inverse stable subordinator. For geometric Brownian motion time changed with an inverse subordinator, in the more general case when the subordina…
We introduce a generalized mixed fractional Brownian motion (gmfBm) as a linear combination of two independent fractional Brownian motions with possibly different Hurst indices and investigate conditions under which the time-changed gmfBm exhibit long range dependence when the time-change is induced by a tempered stable subordinator or a Gamma process.
We define a time-changed fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process by composing a fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with the inverse of a subordinator. Properties of the moments of such process are investigated and the existence of the density is shown. We also provide a generalized Fokker-Planck equation for the density of the process.
In this article we study transition probabilities of a class of subordinate Brownian motions. Under mild assumptions on the Laplace exponent of the corresponding subordinator, sharp two sided estimates of the transition probability are established. This approach, in particular, covers subordinators with Laplace exponents that vary regularly at infinity with index one, e.g. \[ ϕ(λ)=\fracλ{\log(1+λ)}-1 \quad \text{ or }\quad ϕ(λ)=\fracλ{\log(1+λ^{β/2})},\ β\in (0,2)\, \] that correspond to subordinate Brownian motions with scaling order that is not necessarily strictly between 0 and 2. These est…
We start by defining a subordinator by means of the lower-incomplete gamma function. It can be considered as an approximation of the stable subordinator, easier to be handled thank to its finite activity. A tempered version is also considered in order to overcome the drawback of infinite moments. Then, we study Lévy processes time-changed by these subordinators, with particular attention to the Brownian case. An approximation of the fractional derivative (as well as of the fractional power of operators) arises from the analysis of governing equations. Finally, we show that time-changing the fr…
Under proper scaling and distributional assumptions, we prove the convergence in the Skorokhod space endowed with the M_1-topology of a sequence of stochastic integrals of a deterministic function driven by a time-changed symmetric α-stable Lévy process. The time change is given by the inverse β-stable subordinator.
In this paper we study Green measures for certain classes of random time change Markov processes where the random time change are inverse subordinators. We show the existence of the Green measure for these processes under the condition of the existence of the Green measure of the original Markov processes and they coincide. Applications to fractional dynamics in given.
This paper studies a time-changed stochastic control problem, where the underlying stochastic process is a Lévy noise time-changed by an inverse subordinator. We establish a maximum principle theory for the time-changed stochastic control problem. We also prove the existence and uniqueness of the corresponding time-changed backward stochastic differential equation involved in the stochastic control problem. Some examples are provided for illustration.
We introduce a definition of delayed and rushed processes in terms of lifetimes of base processes and time-changed base processes. Then, we consider time changes given by subordinators and their inverse processes. Our analysis shows that, quite surprisingly, time-changing with inverse subordinators does not necessarily imply delay of the base process. Moreover, time-changing with subordinators does not necessarily imply rushed base process.
The paper discusses and surveys some aspects of the potential theory of subordinate Brownian motion under the assumption that the Laplace exponent of the corresponding subordinator is comparable to a regularly varying function at infinity. This extends some results previously obtained under stronger conditions.
We survey the results in Nane (E. Nane, Higher order PDE's and iterated processes, Trans. American Math. Soc. (to appear)) and Baeumer, Meerschaert, and Nane (B. Baeumer, M.M. Meerschaert and E. Nane, Brownian subordinators and fractional Cauchy problems: Submitted (2007)) which deal with PDE connection of some iterated processes, and obtain a new probabilistic proof of the equivalence of the higher order PDE's and fractional in time PDE's.
A subordinate Brownian motion is a Lévy process which can be obtained by replacing the time of the Brownian motion by an independent subordinator. The infinitesimal generator of a subordinate Brownian motion is $-ϕ(-Δ)$, where $ϕ$ is the Laplace exponent of the subordinator. In this paper, we consider a large class of subordinate Brownian motions without diffusion component and with $ϕ$ comparable to a regularly varying function at infinity. This class of processes includes symmetric stable processes, relativistic stable processes, sums of independent symmetric stable processes, sums of indepe…
This paper investigates the stability of a class of differential systems time-changed by $E_{t}$ which is the inverse of a $β$-stable subordinator. In order to explore stability, a time-changed Gronwall's inequality and a generalized Itô formula related to both the natural time $t$ and the time-change $E_{t}$ are developed. For different time-changed systems, corresponding stability behaviors such as exponential sample-path stability, $p$th moment asymptotic stability and $p$th moment exponential stability are investigated. Also a connection between the stability of the time-changed system and…
This paper studies time changes of Brownian motions by positive continuous additive functionals. Under a certain regularity condition on the associated Revuz measures, we prove that the resolvents of the time-changed Brownian motions are locally Hölder continuous in the spatial components. We also obtain lower bounds for the indice of the Hölder continuity.
Fractional Brownian motion (fBm) is a centered self-similar Gaussian process with stationary increments, which depends on a parameter $H \in (0, 1)$ called the Hurst index. The use of time-changed processes in modeling often requires the knowledge of their second order properties such as covariance function. This paper provides the explicit expression for the correlation structure for time-changed fractional Brownian motion. Several examples useful in applications are discussed.
We consider a wide class of increasing Lévy processes perturbed by an independent Brownian motion as a degradation model. Such family contains almost all classical degradation models considered in the literature. Classically failure time associated to such model is defined as the hitting time or the first-passage time of a fixed level. Since sample paths are not in general increasing, we consider also the last-passage time as the failure time following a recent work by Barker and Newby. We address here the problem of determining the distribution of the first-passage time and of the last-passag…
