We concern the analysis of the long time behavior of interfaces in systems with two components. Each component evolves according to 1-d Allen-Cahn equation with Neumann boundary conditions, perturbed by small space-time white noise and with symmetric double well potential in the interval $[-ε^{-1},ε^{-1}]$. The two components interact with each other by an attractive linear force. Instantons are defined as the stationary solution of the Allen-Cahn equation without noise which connects two pure phases. We prove that for time $t=ε^{-1}$, in the limit $ε\rightarrow 0$, when initial states are close to an instanton, two components stay close to the same instanton, whose center moves as a Brownian motion.
In this article, we show that the Brownian motion on the circle constructed in Levy (1959) is a regular Euclidean Brownian motion on the half-circle with its own mirror image on the other half-circle, and is degenerated in the sense of Minlos (1959). This raises the question of what the white noise is on the circle. We then formally define the white noise space and its associated Brownian bridge.
We present the expansion of the multifractional Brownian (mBm) local time in higher dimensions, in terms of Wick powers of white noises (or multiple Wiener integrals). If a suitable number of kernels is subtracted, they exist in the sense of generalized white noise functionals. Moreover we show the convergence of the regularized truncated local times for mBm in the sense of Hida distributions.
In this paper we study stochastic currents of Brownian motion $ξ(x)$, $x\in\mathbb{R}^{d}$, by using white noise analysis. For $x\in\mathbb{R}^{d}\backslash\{0\}$ and for $x=0\in\mathbb{R}$ we prove that the stochastic current $ξ(x)$ is a Hida distribution. Moreover for $x=0\in\mathbb{R}^{d}$ with $d>1$ we show that the stochastic current is not a Hida distribution.
This paper generalizes the integration theory for volatility modulated Brownian-driven Volterra processes onto the space G* of Potthoff-Timpel distributions. Sufficient conditions for integrability of generalized processes are given, regularity results and properties of the integral are discussed. We introduce a new volatility modulation method through the Wick product and discuss its relation to the pointwise-multiplied volatility model.
The convergence of properly time-scaled and normalized maxima of independent standard Brownian motions to the Brown-Resnick process is well-known in the literature. In this paper, we study the extremal functional behavior of non-Gaussian processes, namely squared Bessel processes and scalar products of Brownian motions. It is shown that maxima of independent samples of those processes converge weakly on the space of continuous functions to the Brown-Resnick process.
In this work we present expansions of intersection local times of fractional Brownian motions in $\R^d$, for any dimension $d\geq 1$, with arbitrary Hurst coefficients in $(0,1)^d$. The expansions are in terms of Wick powers of white noises (corresponding to multiple Wiener integrals), being well-defined in the sense of generalized white noise functionals. As an application of our approach, a sufficient condition on $d$ for the existence of intersection local times in $L^2$ is derived, extending the results of D. Nualart and S. Ortiz-Latorre in "Intersection Local Time for Two Independent Frac…
We study the scaling limit of a branching random walk in static random environment in dimension $d=1,2$ and show that it is given by a super-Brownian motion in a white noise potential. In dimension $1$ we characterize the limit as the unique weak solution to the stochastic PDE: \[\partial_t μ= (Δ{+} ξ) μ{+} \sqrt{2νμ} \tildeξ\] for independent space white noise $ξ$ and space-time white noise $\tildeξ$. In dimension $2$ the study requires paracontrolled theory and the limit process is described via a martingale problem. In both dimensions we prove persistence of this rough version of the super-…
G-framework is presented by Peng [41] for measure risk under uncertainty. In this paper, we define fractional G-Brownian motion (fGBm). Fractional G-Brownian motion is a centered G-Gaussian process with zero mean and stationary increments in the sense of sub-linearity with Hurst index $H\in (0,1)$. This process has stationary increments, self-similarity, and long rang dependence properties in the sense of sub-linearity. These properties make the fractional G-Brownian motion a suitable driven process in mathematical finance. We construct wavelet decomposition of the fGBm by wavelet with compact…
Consider a random walker on the nonnegative lattice, moving in continuous time, whose positive transition intensity is proportional to the time the walker spends at the origin. In this way, the walker is a jump process with a stochastic and adapted jump intensity. We show that, upon Brownian scaling, the sequence of such processes converges to Brownian motion with inert drift (BMID). BMID was introduced by Frank Knight in 2001 and generalized by White in 2007. This confirms a conjecture of Burdzy and White in 2008 in the one-dimensional setting.
Let $u = \{u(t, x); (t,x)\in \mathbb R_+\times \mathbb R\}$ be the solution to a linear stochastic heat equation driven by a Gaussian noise, which is a Brownian motion in time and a fractional Brownian motion in space with Hurst parameter $H\in(0, 1)$. For any given $x\in \mathbb R$ (resp. $t\in \mathbb R_+$), we show a decomposition of the stochastic process $t\mapsto u(t,x)$ (resp. $x\mapsto u(t,x)$) as the sum of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H/2$ (resp. $H$) and a stochastic process with $C^{\infty}$-continuous trajectories. Some applications of those decompositions ar…
We prove the existence and uniqueness of a mild solution for a class of non-autonomous parabolic mixed stochastic partial differential equations defined on a bounded open subset $D \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ and involving standard and fractional $L^2(D)$-valued Brownian motions. We assume that the coefficients are homogeneous, Lipschitz continuous and the coefficient at the fractional Brownian motion is an affine function.
In this paper, we study the long-term asymptotics for the quenched moment \[\mathbb{E}_x\exp \biggl\{\int_0^tV(B_s)\,ds\biggr\}\] consisting of a $d$-dimensional Brownian motion $\{B_s;s\ge 0\}$ and a generalized Gaussian field $V$. The major progress made in this paper includes: Solution to an open problem posted by Carmona and Molchanov [Probab. Theory Related Fields 102 (1995) 433-453], the quenched laws for Brownian motions in Newtonian-type potentials and in the potentials driven by white noise or by fractional white noise.
We prove a representation for the average wave function of the Schrödinger equation with a white noise potential in $d=1,2$, in terms of the renormalized self-intersection local time of a Brownian motion.
Using the white noise space framework, we define a class of stochastic processes which include as a particular case the fractional Brownian motion and its derivative. The covariance functions of these processes are of a special form, studied by Schoenberg, von Neumann and Krein.
We prove that the distance between two reflected Brownian motions, driven by the same white noise, outside a sphere in a 3-dimensional flat torus does not converge to 0, a.s., if the radius of the sphere is sufficiently small, relative to the size of the torus.
We are interested in the analysis of Gibbs measures defined on two independent Brownian paths in $\mathbb R^d$ interacting through a mutual self-attraction. This is expressed by the Hamiltonian $\int\int_{\mathbb R^{2d}} V(x-y) μ(d x)ν(d y)$ with two probability measures $μ$ and $ν$ representing the occupation measures of two independent Brownian motions. We will be interested in class of potentials $V$ which are {\it{singular}}, e.g., Dirac or Coulomb type interactions in $\mathbb R^3$, or the correlation function of the parabolic Anderson problem with white noise potential. The mutual intera…
We consider the problem of conditioning the Brownian excursion to have a fixed time average over the interval [0,1] and we study an associated stochastic partial differential equation with reflection at 0 and with the constraint of conservation of the space average. The equation is driven by the derivative in space of a space-time white noise and contains a double Laplacian in the drift. Due to the lack of the maximum principle for the double Laplacian, the standard techniques based on the penalization method do not yield existence of a solution.
We study the law of the solution to the stochastic heat equation with additive Gaussian noise which behaves as the fractional Brownian motion in time and is white in space. We prove a decomposition of the solution in terms of the bifractional Brownian motion.
Consider the stochastic partial differential equation $\partial_t u = Lu+σ(u)ξ$, where $ξ$ denotes space-time white noise and $L:=-(-Δ)^{α/2}$ denotes the fractional Laplace operator of index $α/2\in(\nicefrac12\,,1]$. We study the detailed behavior of the approximate spatial gradient $u_t(x)-u_t(x-\varepsilon)$ at fixed times $t>0$, as $\varepsilon\downarrow0$. We discuss a few applications of this work to the study of the sample functions of the solution to the KPZ equation as well.
Motivated by the simulation of stable random fields, we consider the issue of discrete approximations of independently scattered stable noise. Two approaches are proposed: grid approximations available when the underlying space is $\bbR^d$ and shot noise approximations available on more general spaces. Limit theorems stating the convergence of discrete random noises to stable white noise are proved. These results are then applied to study moving average spatial random fields with heavy-tailed innovations and related limit theorems. A second application deals with discrete approximation for Bro…
A simple axiomatic characterization of the general (infinite dimensional, noncommutative) Ito algebra is given and a pseudo-Euclidean fundamental representation for such algebra is described. The notion of Ito B*-algebra, generalizing the C*-algebra is defined to include the Banach infinite dimensional Ito algebras of quantum Brownian and quantum Levy motion, and the B*-algebras of vacuum and thermal quantum noise are characterized. It is proved that every Ito algebra is canonically decomposed into the orthogonal sum of quantum Brownian (Wiener) algebra and quantum Levy (Poisson) algebra. In p…
The aim of this paper is to study the $d$-dimensional stochastic heat equation with a multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in space and it has the covariance of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $% H\in (0,1)$ in time. Two types of equations are considered. First we consider the equation in the Itô-Skorohod sense, and later in the Stratonovich sense. An explicit chaos development for the solution is obtained. On the other hand, the moments of the solution are expressed in terms of the exponential moments of some weighted intersection local time of the Brownian motion.
A continuous-time white Gaussian channel can be formulated using a white Gaussian noise, and a conventional way for examining such a channel is the sampling approach based on the classical Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem, where the original continuous-time channel is converted to an equivalent discrete-time channel, to which a great variety of established tools and methodology can be applied. However, one of the key issues of this scheme is that continuous-time feedback cannot be incorporated into the channel model. It turns out that this issue can be circumvented by considering the Brownian …
This paper provides information about the asymptotic behavior of a one-dimensional Brownian polymer in random medium represented by a space-time Gaussian field W assumed to be white noise in time and function-valued in space. According to the behavior of the spatial covariance W, we give a lower bound on the power growth (wandering exponent) of the polymer when the time parameter goes to infinity: the polymer is proved to be superdiffusive, with a wandering exponent exceeding any $α<3/5$.
We study the time-fractional stochastic heat equation driven by time-space white noise with space dimension $d\in\mathbb{N}=\{1,2,...\}$ and the fractional time-derivative is the Caputo derivative of order $α\in (0,2)$. We consider the equation in the sense of distribution, and we find an explicit expression for the $\mathcal{S}'$-valued solution $Y(t,x)$, where $\mathcal{S}'$ is the space of tempered distributions. Following the terminology of Y. Hu \cite{Hu}, we say that the solution is \emph{mild} if $Y(t,x) \in L^2(\mathbb{P})$ for all $t,x$, where $\mathbb{P}$ is the probability law of th…
This paper provides information about the asymptotic behavior of a one-dimensional Brownian polymer in random medium represented by a Gaussian field $W$ on ${\mathbb{R}}_+\times{\mathbb{R}}$ which is white noise in time and function-valued in space. According to the behavior of the spatial covariance of $W$, we give a lower bound on the power growth (wandering exponent) of the polymer when the time parameter goes to infinity: the polymer is proved to be superdiffusive, with a wandering exponent exceeding any $α<3/5$.
In the first part of this paper I give the historical background to my initial interest in stochastic analysis and to the writing of my book Stochastic Differential Equations. The first edition of this book was published by Springer in 1985, with the highly appreciated support of Catriona Byrne. In the second part I present a motivation for modelling the dynamics of a system subject to a noise by means of a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) driven by a time-space Brownian sheet. This is followed by a brief survey of time-space white noise and Hida-Malliavin calculus, which are us…
The weak solution of Tanaka's SDE is not a function of the driving Brownian motion, and therefore it has no Wiener chaos expansion. However in some sense explained here it has a generalised chaos expansion involving infinite products of stochastic differentials accumulating at the minimum of the Brownian path. This is related to the existence of a non-classical noise richer than the usual white noise.
We introduce an approach to study certain singular PDEs which is based on techniques from paradifferential calculus and on ideas from the theory of controlled rough paths. We illustrate its applicability on some model problems like differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion, a fractional Burgers type SPDE driven by space-time white noise, and a non-linear version of the parabolic Anderson model with a white noise potential.
A parameter estimation problem is considered for a diagonaliazable stochastic evolution equation using a finite number of the Fourier coefficients of the solution. The equation is driven by additive noise that is white in space and fractional in time with the Hurst parameter $H\geq 1/2$. The objective is to study asymptotic properties of the maximum likelihood estimator as the number of the Fourier coefficients increases. A necessary and sufficient condition for consistency and asymptotic normality is presented in terms of the eigenvalues of the operators in the equation.
The classical Ray-Knight theorems for Brownian motion determine the law of its local time process either at the first hitting time of a given value a by the local time at the origin, or at the first hitting time of a given position b by Brownian motion. We extend these results by describing the local time process jointly for all a and all b, by means of stochastic integral with respect to an appropriate white noise. Our result applies to $μ$-processes, and has an immediate application: a $μ$-process is the height process of a Feller continuous-state branching process (CSBP) with immigration (L…
We determine the exact Hausdorff measure functions for the range and level sets of a class of Gaussian random fields satisfying sectorial local nondeterminism and other assumptions. We also establish a Chung-type law of the iterated logarithm. The results can be applied to the Brownian sheet, fractional Brownian sheets whose Hurst indices are the same in all directions, and systems of linear stochastic wave equations in one spatial dimension driven by space-time white noise or colored noise.
In this paper the reflection and transmission of waves by a three-dimensional random medium are studied in a white-noise and paraxial regime. The limit system derives from the acoustic wave equations and is described by a coupled system of random Schrödinger equations driven by a Brownian field whose covariance is determined by the two-point statistics of the fluctuations of the random medium. For the reflected and transmitted fields the associated Wigner distributions and the autocorrelation functions are determined by a closed system of transport equations. The Wigner distribution is then us…
This paper establishes a functional law of large numbers and a functional central limit theorem for marked Hawkes point measures and their corresponding shot noise processes. We prove that the normalized random measure can be approximated in distribution by the sum of a Gaussian white noise process plus an appropriate lifting map of a correlated one-dimensional Brownian motion. The Brownian results from the self-exiting arrivals of events. We apply our limit theorems for Hawkes point measures to analyze the population dynamics of budding microbes in a host.
By means of white noise analysis, we prove some limit theorems for nonlinear functionals of a given Volterra process. In particular, our results apply to fractional Brownian motion (fBm) and should be compared with the classical convergence results of the 1980s due to Breuer, Dobrushin, Giraitis, Major, Surgailis and Taqqu, as well as the recent advances concerning the construction of a Lévy area for fBm due to Coutin, Qian and Unterberger.
Let H be a Hilbert space and E a Banach space. We set up a theory of stochastic integration of L(H,E)-valued functions with respect to H-cylindrical Liouville fractional Brownian motions (fBm) with arbitrary Hurst parameter in the interval (0,1). For Hurst parameters in (0,1/2) we show that a function F:(0,T)\to L(H,E) is stochastically integrable with respect to an H-cylindrical Liouville fBm if and only if it is stochastically integrable with respect to an H-cylindrical fBm with the same Hurst parameter. As an application we show that second-order parabolic SPDEs on bounded domains in \mathb…
We establish a version of the Feynman-Kac formula for the multidimensional stochastic heat equation with a multiplicative fractional Brownian sheet. We use the techniques of Malliavin calculus to prove that the process defined by the Feynman-Kac formula is a weak solution of the stochastic heat equation. From the Feynman-Kac formula, we establish the smoothness of the density of the solution and the Hölder regularity in the space and time variables. We also derive a Feynman-Kac formula for the stochastic heat equation in the Skorokhod sense and we obtain the Wiener chaos expansion of the solut…
We consider a family of continuous processes $\{X^\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}$ which are measurable with respect to a white noise measure, take values in the space of continuous functions $C([0,1]^d:\mathbb{R})$, and have the Wiener chaos expansion \[ X^\varepsilon = \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} \varepsilon^n I_n \big(f_n^{\varepsilon} \big). \] We provide sufficient conditions for the large deviations principle of $\{X^\varepsilon\}_{\varepsilon>0}$ to hold in $C([0,1]^d:\mathbb{R})$, thereby refreshing a problem left open by Pérez-Abreu (1993) in the Brownian motion case. The proof is based on the …
In this paper, we consider nonlinear diffusion processes driven by space-time white noises, which have an interpretation in terms of partial differential equations. For a specific choice of coefficients, they correspond to the Landau equation arising in kinetic theory. A particular feature is that the diffusion matrix of this process is a linear function the law of the process, and not a quadratic one, as in the McKean-Vlasov model. The main goal of the paper is to construct an easily simulable diffusive interacting particle system, converging towards this nonlinear process and to obtain an ex…
This paper is concerned with two related types of directed polymers in a random medium. The first one is a d-dimensional Brownian motion living in a random environment which is Brownian in time and homogeneous in space. The second is a continuous-time random walk on the lattice Z^d, in a random environment with similar properties as in continuous space. The case of a space-time white noise environment can be acheived in this second setting. By means of some Gaussian tools, we estimate the free energy of these models at low temperature, and give some further information on the strong disorder r…
Consider a semimartingale reflecting Brownian motion (SRBM) $Z$ whose state space is the $d$-dimensional nonnegative orthant. The data for such a process are a drift vector $θ$, a nonsingular $d\times d$ covariance matrix $Σ$, and a $d\times d$ reflection matrix $R$ that specifies the boundary behavior of $Z$. We say that $Z$ is positive recurrent, or stable, if the expected time to hit an arbitrary open neighborhood of the origin is finite for every starting state. In dimension $d=2$, necessary and sufficient conditions for stability are known, but fundamentally new phenomena arise in higher …
In this paper, we consider a quasi-linear stochastic heat equation on $[0,1]$, with Dirichlet boundary conditions and controlled by the space-time white noise. We formally replace the random perturbation by a family of noisy inputs depending on a parameter $n\in \mathbb{N}$ such that approximate the white noise in some sense. Then, we provide sufficient conditions ensuring that the real-valued {\it mild} solution of the SPDE perturbed by this family of noises converges in law, in the space $\mathcal{C}([0,T]\times [0,1])$ of continuous functions, to the solution of the white noise driven SPDE.…

We study the convergence of $N-$particle systems described by SDEs driven by Brownian motion and Poisson random measure, where the coefficients depend on the empirical measure of the system. Every particle jumps with a jump rate depending on its position and on the empirical measure of the system. Jumps are simultaneous, that is, at each jump time, all particles of the system are affected by this jump and receive a random jump height that is centred and scaled in $N^{-1/2}.$ This particular scaling implies that the limit of the empirical measures of the system is random, describing the conditi…
The aim of this work is to define and perform a study of local times of all Gaussian processes that have an integral representation over a real interval (that maybe infinite). Very rich, this class of Gaussian processes, contains Volterra processes (and thus fractional Brownian motion), multifractional Brownian motions as well as processes, the regularity of which varies along the time. Using the White Noise-based anticipative stochastic calculus with respect to Gaussian processes developed in [Leb17], we first establish a Tanaka formula. This allows us to define both weighted and non-weighted…
