Consider a random walker on the nonnegative lattice, moving in continuous time, whose positive transition intensity is proportional to the time the walker spends at the origin. In this way, the walker is a jump process with a stochastic and adapted jump intensity. We show that, upon Brownian scaling, the sequence of such processes converges to Brownian motion with inert drift (BMID). BMID was introduced by Frank Knight in 2001 and generalized by White in 2007. This confirms a conjecture of Burdzy and White in 2008 in the one-dimensional setting.
In this paper, using an algorithm based on the retrospective rejection sampling scheme, we propose an exact simulation of a Brownian diffusion whose drift admits several jumps. We treat explicitly and extensively the case of two jumps, providing numerical simulations. Our main contribution is to manage the technical diffculty due to the presence of two jumps thanks to a new explicit expression of the transition density of the skew Brownian motion with two semipermeable barriers and a constant drift.
We derive explicit formulas for probabilities of Brownian motion with jumps crossing linear or piecewise linear boundaries in any finite interval. We then use these formulas to approximate the boundary crossing probabilities for general nonlinear boundaries. The jump process can be any integer-valued process and jump sizes can have general distributions. Moreover, the jump sizes can be even correlated and/or non-identically distributed. The numerical algorithm is straightforward and easy to implement. Some numerical examples are presented.
We consider a model of Brownian motion on a bounded open interval with instantaneous jumps. The jumps occur at a spatially dependent rate given by a positive parameter times a continuous function positive on the interval and vanishing on its boundary. At each jump event the process is redistributed uniformly in the interval. We obtain sharp asymptotic bounds on the principal eigenvalue for the generator of the process as the parameter tends to infinity. Our work answers a question posed by Arcusin and Pinsky.
In this paper we consider the Brownian motion with jump boundary and present a new proof of a recent result of Li, Leung and Rakesh concerning the exact convergence rate in the one-dimensional case. Our methods are different and mainly probabilistic relying on coupling methods adapted to the special situation under investigation. Moreover, we answer a question raised by Ben-Ari and Pinsky concerning the dependence of the spectral gap on the jump distribution in a multi-dimensional setting.
We analyze jump processes $Z$ with ``inert drift'' determined by a ``memory'' process $S$. The state space of $(Z,S)$ is the Cartesian product of the unit circle and the real line. We prove that the stationary distribution of $(Z,S)$ is the product of the uniform probability measure and a Gaussian distribution.
In this paper, we consider two skew Brownian motions, driven by the same Brownian motion, with different starting points and different skewness coefficients. We show that we can describe the evolution of the distance between the two processes with a stochastic differential equation. This S.D.E. possesses a jump component driven by the excursion process of one of the two skew Brownian motions. Using this representation, we show that the local time of two skew Brownian motions at their first hitting time is distributed as a simple function of a Beta random variable. This extends a result by Burd…
We study an inverse first-passage-time problem for Wiener process $X(t)$ subject to hold and jump from a boundary $c.$ Let be given a threshold $S>X(0) \ge c,$ and a distribution function $F$ on $[0, + \infty ).$ The problem consists in finding the distribution of the holding time at $c$ and the distribution of jumps from $c,$ so that the first-passage time of $X(t)$ through $S$ has distribution $F.$
Consider a negatively drifted one dimensional Brownian motion starting at positive initial position, its first hitting time to 0 has the inverse Gaussian law. Moreover, conditionally on this hitting time, the Brownian motion up to that time has the law of a 3- dimensional Bessel bridge. In this paper, we give a generalization of this result to a family of Brownian motions with interacting drifts, indexed by the vertices of a conductance network. The hitting times are equal in law to the inverse of a random potential that appears in the analysis of a self-interacting process called the Vertex R…
We introduce two general non-parametric methods for recovering paths of the Brownian and jump components from high-frequency observations of a Lévy process. The first procedure relies on reordering of independently sampled normal increments and thus avoids tuning parameters. The functionality of this method is a consequence of the small time predominance of the Brownian component, the presence of exchangeable structures, and fast convergence of normal empirical quantile functions. The second procedure amounts to filtering the increments and compensating with the final value. It requires a care…
Let $X$ be a symmetric jump process on $\R^d$ such that the corresponding jumping kernel $J(x,y)$ satisfies $$J(x,y)\le \frac{c}{|x-y|^{d+2}\log^{1+\varepsilon}(e+|x-y|)}$$ for all $x,y\in\R^d$ with $|x-y|\ge1$ and some constants $c,\varepsilon>0$. Under additional mild assumptions on $J(x,y)$ for $|x-y|<1$, we show that $C\sqrt{r\log \log r}$ with some constant $C>0$ is an upper rate function of the process $X$, which enjoys the same form as that for Brownian motions. The approach is based on heat kernel estimates of large time for the process $X$. As a by-product, we also obtain two-sided he…
In [8] we established existence and uniqueness of solutions of backward stochastic differential equations in L^p under a monotonicity condition on the generator and in a general filtration. There was a mistake in the case 1 \textless{} p \textless{} 2. Here we give a corrected proof. Moreover the quasi-left continuity condition on the filtration is removed.
We construct a stochastic process whose drift is a function of the process's local time at a reflecting barrier. The process arose as a model of the interactions of a Brownian particle and an inert particle in (Knight, 2001). Interesting asymptotic results are obtained for two different arrangements of inert particles and Brownian particles. A version of the process in $\Re^d$ is also constructed.
We investigate the motion of an inert (massive) particle being impinged from below by a particle performing (reflected) Brownian motion. The velocity of the inert particle increases in proportion to the local time of collisions and decreases according to a constant downward gravitational acceleration. We study fluctuations and strong laws of the motion of the particles. We further show that the joint distribution of the velocity of the inert particle and the gap between the two particles converges in total variation distance to a stationary distribution which has an explicit product form.
This study deals with the problem of pricing compound options when the underlying asset follows a mixed fractional Brownian motion with jumps. An analytic formula for compound options is derived under the risk neutral measure. Then, these results are applied to value extendible options. Moreover, some special cases of the formula are discussed and numerical results are provided.
Uniform large deviation principles for positive functionals of all equivalent types of infinite dimensional Brownian motions acting together with a Poisson random measure are established. The core of our approach is a variational representation formula which for an infinite sequence of i.i.d real Brownian motions and a Poisson random measure was shown in [5].
Brownian motions on star graphs in the sense of Itô-McKean, that is, Walsh processes admitting a generalized boundary behavior including stickiness and jumps and having an angular distribution with finite support, are examined. Their generators are identified as Laplace operators on the graph subject to non-local Feller-Wentzell boundary conditions. A pathwise description is achieved for every admissible boundary condition: For finite jump measures, a construction of Kostrykin, Potthoff and Schrader in the continuous setting is expanded via a technique of successive killings and revivals; for …
A particle moves randomly over the integer points of the real line. Jumps of the particle outside the membrane (a fixed "locally perturbating set") are i.i.d., have zero mean and finite variance, whereas jumps of the particle from the membrane have other distributions with finite means which may be different for different points of the membrane; furthermore, these jumps are mutually independent and independent of the jumps outside the membrane. Assuming that the particle cannot jump over the membrane we prove that the weak scaling limit of the particle position is a skew Brownian motion with p…
The mixed fractional Brownian motion ($mfBm$) has become quite popular in finance, since it allows one to model long-range dependence and self-similarity while remaining, for certain values of the Hurst parameter, arbitrage-free. In the present paper, we propose approximate closed-form solutions for pricing arithmetic Asian options on an underlying described by the $mfBm$. Specifically, we consider both arithmetic Asian options and arithmetic Asian power options, and we obtain analytical formulas for pricing them based on a convenient approximation of the strike price. Both the standard $mfBm$…
In this paper, we consider a stochastic differential equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion (fBm) and a Wiener process and having jumps. We prove that this equation has a unique solution and show that all its moments are finite.
We analyze the consumption-portfolio selection problem of an investor facing both Brownian and jump risks. We bring new tools, in the form of orthogonal decompositions, to bear on the problem in order to determine the optimal portfolio in closed form. We show that the optimal policy is for the investor to focus on controlling his exposure to the jump risk, while exploiting differences in the Brownian risk of the asset returns that lies in the orthogonal space.
We define a new state-space for the coalescing Brownian flow, also known as the Brownian web, on the circle. The elements of this space are families of order-preserving maps of the circle, depending continuously on two time parameters and having a certain weak flow property. The space is equipped with a complete separable metric. A larger state-space, allowing jumps in time, is also introduced, and equipped with a Skorokhod-type metric, also complete and separable. We prove that the coalescing Brownian flow is the weak limit in this larger space of a family of flows which evolve by jumps, each…
We introduce a system of one-dimensional coalescing nonsimple random walks with long range jumps allowing crossing paths and exibiting dependence before coalescence. We show that under diffusive scaling this system converges in distribution to the Brownian Web.
For one-dimensional stochastic Burgers equation driven by Brownian motion and Poisson process, we study the $ψ$-uniformly exponential ergodicity with $ψ(x)=1+\|x\|$, the moderate deviation principle and the large deviation principle for the occupation measures.
The market weight of a stock is its capitalization (cap) divided by the total market cap. Rank these weights from top to bottom. The capital distribution curve is a plot of weights versus ranks. For the US stock market, it is linear on a double logarithmic scale, and stable with respect to time (Fernholz, 2002). This property has been captured by models with rank-dependent dynamics: Each stock's cap logarithm is a Brownian motion with drift and diffusion coefficients depending on its current rank (Chatterjee, Pal, 2010). However, short-term stock movements have heavy tails. One can add jumps t…
This work deals with backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with random marked jumps, and their applications to default risk. We show that these BSDEs are linked with Brownian BSDEs through the decomposition of processes with respect to the progressive enlargement of filtrations. We show that the equations have solutions if the associated Brownian BSDEs have solutions. We also provide a uniqueness theorem for BSDEs with jumps by giving a comparison theorem based on the comparison for Brownian BSDEs. We give in particular some results for quadratic BDSEs. As applications, we study the…
In this paper, we study backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs shortly) with jumps that have Lipschitz generator in a general filtration supporting a Brownian motion and an independent Poisson random measure. Under just integrability on the data we show that such equations admits a unique solution which belongs to class D.
We consider the degenerate Einstein's Brownian motion model for the case when the time interval ($τ$) of particle Jumps before collision (free jumps) reciprocal to the number of particles per unit volume $u(x,t) > 0$ at the point of observation $x$ at time $t$. The parameter $0 < τ\leq C < \infty$, controls characteristic of the fluid "almost decreases" to $ 0 $ when $u \rightarrow \infty$. This degeneration leads to the localisation of the spread of particle propagation in the media. In our report we will present a structural condition of the time interval of free jumps - $τ$ and the frequenc…
We introduce a discrete time reflected scheme to solve doubly reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations with jumps (in short DRBSDEs), driven by a Brownian motion and an independent compensated Poisson process. As in Dumitrescu-Labart (2014), we approximate the Brownian motion and the Poisson process by two random walks, but contrary to this paper, we discretize directly the DRBSDE, without using a penalization step. This gives us a fully implementable scheme, which only depends on one parameter of approximation: the number of time steps $n$ (contrary to the scheme proposed in Dumit…
Motivated by recent studies of record statistics in relation to strongly correlated time series, we consider explicitly the drawdown time of a Levy process, which is defined as the time since it last achieved its running maximum when observed over a fixed time period [0,T]. We show that the density function of this drawdown time, in the case of a completely asymmetric jump process, may be factored as a function of $t$ multiplied by a function of T-t. This extends a known result for the case of pure Brownian motion. We state the factors explicitly for the cases of exponential down-jumps with dr…
We present a new algorithms to discretize a decoupled forward backward stochastic differential equations driven by pure jump Lévy process (FBSDEL in short). The method is built in two steps. Firstly, we approximate the FBSDEL by a forward backward stochastic differential equations driven by a Brownian motion and Poisson process (FBSDEBP in short), in which we replace the small jumps by a Brownian motion. Then, we prove the convergence of the approximation when the size of small jumps $\eps$ goes to 0. In the second step, we obtain the $L^p$ Hölder continuity of the solution of FBSDEBP and we c…
We are concerned with the discretization of a solution of a Forward-Backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE) with a jump process depending on the Brownian motion. In this paper, we study the cases of Lipschitz generators and the generators with a quadratic growth w.r.t. the variable z. We propose a recursive scheme based on a general existence result given in a companion paper and we study the error induced by the time discretization. We prove the convergence of the scheme when the number of time steps n goes to infinity. Our approach allows to get a convergence rate similar to that o…
In this paper, we consider a multidimensional ergodic diffusion with jumps driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure associated with a pure-jump Lévy process with finite Lévy measure, whose drift coefficient depends on an unknown parameter. Considering the process discretely observed at high frequency, we derive the local asymptotic normality (LAN) property.
A pathwise construction of discontinuous Brownian motions on metric graphs is given for every possible set of non-local Feller-Wentzell boundary conditions. This construction is achieved by locally decomposing the metric graphs into star graphs, establishing local solutions on these partial graphs, pasting the solutions together, introducing non-local jumps, and verifying the generator of the resulting process.
In this paper, we study backward stochastic Volterra integral equations introduced in [26, 45] and extend the existence, uniqueness or comparison results for general filtration as in [31] (not only Brownian-Poisson setting). We also consider Lp-data and explore the time regularity of the solution in the It{ô} setting, which is also new in this jump setting.

We consider two reflecting diffusion processes $(X_t)_{t \ge 0}$ with a moving reflection boundary given by a non-decreasing pure jump Markov process $(R_t)_{t \ge 0}$. Between the jumps of the reflection boundary the diffusion part behaves as a reflecting Brownian motion with negative drift or as a reflecting Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. In both cases at rate $γ(X_t -R_t)$ for some $γ\ge 0$ the reflection boundary jumps to a new value chosen uniformly in $[R_{t-},X_t]$. Since after each jump of the reflection boundary the diffusions are reflected at a higher level we call the processes Brownia…
Stochastic Volterra integral equations with jumps (SVIEs) have become very common and widely used in numerous branches of science, due to their connections with mathematical finance, biology, engineering and so on. In this paper, we apply the successive approximation method to investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the SVIEs driven by Brownian motion and compensated Poisson random measure under non-Lipschitz condition.
We consider a backward stochastic differential equation with jumps (BSDEJ) which is driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure. We present two candidate-approximations to this BSDEJ and we prove that the solution of each candidate- approximation converges to the solution of the original BSDEJ in a space which we specify. We use this result to investigate in further detail the consequences of the choice of the model to (partial) hedging in incomplete markets in finance. As an application, we consider models in which the small variations in the price dynamics are modeled with a Poi…
A classification for Brownian motions on metric graphs, that is, right continuous strong Markov processes which behave like a one-dimensional Brownian motion on the edges and feature effects like Walsh skewness, stickiness and jumps at the vertices, is obtained. The Feller property of these processes is proved, and the boundary conditions of their generators are identified as non-local Feller-Wentzell boundary conditions. By using a technique of successive revivals, a complete description of the generator is achieved for Brownian motions on star graphs.
Given the variable-speed random walk on a weighted graph and a metric adapted to the structure of the random walk, we construct a Brownian motion on a closely related metric graph which behaves similarly to the VSRW and for which the associated intrinsic metric has certain desirable properties. Jump probabilities and moments of jump times for Brownian motion on metric graphs with varying edge lengths, jump conductances, and edge densities are computed. We use these results together with a theorem of Sturm for stochastic completeness, or non-explosiveness, on local Dirichlet spaces to prove sha…
In this article, the path independent property of additive functionals of McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations with jumps is characterised by nonlinear partial integro-differential equations involving $L$-derivatives with respect to probability measures introduced by P.-L. Lions. Our result extends the recent work [16] by Ren and Wang where their concerned McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations are driven by Brownian motions.
Let (Xt, t >= 0) be a diffusion process with jumps, sum of a Brownian motion with drift and a compound Poisson process. We consider T_x the first hitting time of a fixed level x > 0 by (Xt, t >= 0). We prove that the law of T_x has a density (defective when E(X1) < 0) with respect to the Lebesgue measure.
The aim of this paper is to study the continuity correction for barrier options in jump-diusion models. For this purpose, we express the pay-off a barrier option in terms of the maximum of the underlying process. We then condition with respect to the jump times and to the values of the underlying at the jump times and rely on the connection between the maximum of the Brownian motion and Bessel processes.
Adaptive importance sampling techniques are widely known for the Gaussian setting of Brownian driven diffusions. In this work, we want to extend them to jump processes. Our approach relies on a change of the jump intensity combined with the standard exponential tilting for the Brownian motion. The free parameters of our framework are optimized using sample average approximation techniques. We illustrate the efficiency of our method on the valuation of financial derivatives in several jump models.
Consider a massive (inert) particle impinged from above by N Brownian particles that are instantaneously reflected upon collision with the inert particle. The velocity of the inert particle increases due to the influence of an external Newtonian potential (e.g. gravitation) and decreases in proportion to the total local time of collisions with the Brownian particles. This system models a semi-permeable membrane in a fluid having microscopic impurities (Knight (2001)). We study the long-time behavior of the process $(V,\mathbf{Z})$, where $V$ is the velocity of the inert particle and $\mathbf{Z…
Sufficient and necessary conditions are presented for the order-preservation of stochastic functional differential equations on $\R^d$ with non-Lipschitzian coefficients driven by the Brownian motion and Poisson processes. The sufficiency of the conditions extends and improves some known comparison theorems derived recently for one-dimesional equations and multidimensional equations without delay, and the necessity is new even in these special situations.
