Let $F$ be a field of non-zero characteristic $p$, let $G$ be a cyclic group of order $q =p^a$ for some positive integer $a$, and let $U$ and $W$ be indecomposable $F G$-modules. We identify a generator for each of the indecomposable components of $U \otimes W$ in terms of a particular $F$-basis of $U \otimes W$, extending previous work in which each component occurred with multiplicity one. An anonymous reviewer helped us realize that our results are really just a translation of previous results of Iiwa and Iwamatsu to our situation.
In this paper, we study the tensor structure of category of finite dimensional representations of Drinfeld quantum doubles $D(H_n(q))$ of Taft Hopf algebras $H_n(q)$. Tensor product decomposition rules for all finite dimensional indecomposable modules are explicitly given.
We study the structure of the indecomposable direct summands of tensor products of two restricted simple $SL_3(K)$-modules, where $K$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p \geq 5$. We give a characteristic-free algorithm for the computation of the decomposition of such a tensor product into indecomposable modules. The $p<5$ case for $\SL_3(K)$ was studied in the authors' earlier paper. In this paper we show that for characteristics $p\geq 5$ all the indecomposable summands are rigid, in contrast to the situation in characteristic 3.
The rigidity degree of a generator-cogenerator determines the dominant dimension of its endomorphism algebra, and is closely related to a recently introduced homological dimension -- rigidity dimension. In this paper, we give explicit formulae for the rigidity degrees of all indecomposable modules over representation-finite self-injective algebras by developing combinatorial methods from the Euclidean algorithm. As an application, the rigidity dimensions of some algebras of types $A$ and $E$ are given.
Dave Benson conjectured in 2020 that if $G$ is a finite $2$-group and $V$ is an odd-dimensional indecomposable representation of $G$ over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic $2$, then the only odd-dimensional indecomposable summand of $V \otimes V^*$ is the trivial representation $\Bbbk$. This would imply that a tensor power of an odd-dimensional indecomposable representation of $G$ over $\Bbbk$ has a unique odd-dimensional summand. Benson has further conjectured that, given such a representation $V$, the function sending a positive integer $n$ to the dimension of the uniqu…
If $K$ is a field of finite characteristic $p$, $G$ is a cyclic group of order $q=p^α$, $U$ and $W$ are indecomposable $KG$-modules with $\dim U=m$ and $\dim W=n$, and $λ(m,n,p)$ is a standard Jordan partition of $ m n$, we describe how to find a generator for each of the indecomposable components of the $KG$-module $U \otimes W$.
We study the indecomposable summands of the permutation module obtained by inducing the trivial $\mathbb{F}(S_a\wr S_n)$-module to the full symmetric group $S_{an}$ for any field $\mathbb{F}$ of odd prime characteristic $p$ such that $a<p\leq n$. In particular we characterize the vertices of such indecomposable summands. As a corollary we will disprove a modular version of Foulkes' Conjecture. In the second part of the article we will use this information to give a new description of some columns of the decomposition matrices of symmetric groups in terms of the ordinary character of the Foulke…
We give diagrammatic formulae for morphisms between indecomposable representations of $\bar{U}_{q}(\mathfrak{sl}_{2})$ appearing in the decomposition of $\mathbb{C}^{\otimes 2n}$, including projections and second endomorphisms on projective indecomposable representations.
Given a skeletally small category $\mathcal{C}$, we show that any locally finite endo-length $\mathcal{C}$-module is the direct sum of indecomposable $\mathcal{C}$-modules, whose endomorphism algebra is local.
In this paper we introduce a novel family of Markov chains on the simple representations of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{F}_p)$ in defining characteristic, defined by tensoring with a fixed simple module and choosing an indecomposable non-projective summand. We show these chains are reversible and find their connected components and their stationary distributions. We draw connections between the properties of the chain and the representation theory of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{F}_p)$, emphasising symmetries of the tensor product. We also provide an elementary proof of the decomposition of tensor produc…
We completely describe the decompositions (into indecomposable submodules) of the tensor products of irreducible sl(2)-modules in characteristic 3. The answer resembles analogous decompositions for the Lie superalgebra sl(1|1).
We give a construction of the projective indecomposable modules and a description of the quiver for a large class of monoid algebras including the algebra of any finite monoid whose principal right ideals have at most one idempotent generator. Our results include essentially all families of finite monoids for which this has been done previously, for example, left regular bands, $\mathscr J$-trivial and $\mathscr R$-trivial monoids and left regular bands of groups.
We categorify Verma and indecomposable projective modules in the category $\mathcal I_{\mathfrak{g}}(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ for $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ using a tensor product decomposition theorem of T. J. Enright and work of J. Chuang and R. Rouquier, A. Licata and A. Savage (Hecke algebras, finite general linear groups, and Heisenberg categorification) and M. Khovanov (Heisenberg algebra and a graphical calculus).
Let $A$ be a finite-dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$. For any finite-dimensional $A$-module $M$ we give a general formula that computes the indecomposable decomposition of $M$ without decomposing it, for which we use the knowledge of AR-quivers that are already computed in many cases. The proof of the formula here is much simpler than that in a prior literature by Dowbor and Mróz. As an example we apply this formula to the Kronecker algebra $A$ and give an explicit formula to compute the indecomposable decomposition of $M$, which enables us to make a computer prog…
We give an algorithm for working out the indecomposable direct summands in a Krull--Schmidt decomposition of a tensor product of two simple modules for G=SL_3 in characteristics 2 and 3. It is shown that there is a finite family of modules such that every such indecomposable summand is expressible as a twisted tensor product of members of that family. Along the way we obtain the submodule structure of various Weyl and tilting modules. Some of the tilting modules that turn up in characteristic 3 are not rigid; these seem to provide the first example of non-rigid tilting modules for algebraic gr…
In the first part of this paper we present explicit formulas for primitive idempotents in arbitrary Frobenius algebras using the entries of representing matrices coming from projective indecomposable modules with respect to a certain choice of basis. The proofs use a generalisation of the well known Frobenius-Schur relations for semisimple algebras. The second part of this paper considers $\Oh$-free $\Oh$-algebras of finite $\Oh$-rank over a discrete valuation ring $\Oh$ and their decomposition maps under modular reduction modulo the maximal ideal of $\Oh$, thereby studying the modular represe…
In the persistent homology of filtrations, the indecomposable decompositions provide the persistence diagrams. However, in almost all cases of multidimensional persistence, the classification of all indecomposable modules is known to be a wild problem. One direction is to consider the subclass of interval-decomposable persistence modules, which are direct sums of interval representations. We introduce the definition of pre-interval representations, a more natural algebraic definition, and study the relationships between pre-interval, interval, and indecomposable thin representations. We show t…
The decomposition matrix of a finite group in prime characteristic p records the multiplicities of its p-modular irreducible representations as composition factors of the reductions modulo p of its irreducible representations in characteristic zero. The main theorem of this paper gives a combinatorial description of certain columns of the decomposition matrices of symmetric groups in odd prime characteristic. The result applies to blocks of arbitrarily high weight. It is obtained by studying the p-local structure of certain twists of the permutation module given by the action of the symmetric …
We give a decomposition as a direct sum of indecomposable modules of several types of Specht modules in characteristic $2$. These include the Specht modules labelled by hooks, whose decomposability was considered by Murphy. Since the main arguments are essentially no more difficult for Hecke algebras at parameter $q=-1$, we proceed in this level of generality.
We give an exact algorithm to calculate (under some GKM-restriction) the matrix describing the embedding $\B(\s)_x\subset\B(\s)^x$, where the first module is the costalk and the second one is the stalk at $x$ of a Bott-Samelson module (sheaf) $\B(\s)$. This allows us to calculate the first few terms of the decomposition of $\B(\s)$ into a sum of indecomposable modules (sheaves) and to calculate the characters of Braden--MacPherson sheaves in some previously unknown cases.
In this paper, we investigate the tensor structure of the category of finite dimensional weight modules over the Hopf-Ore extensions $kG(χ^{-1}, a, 0)$ of group algebras $kG$. The tensor product decomposition rules for all indecomposable weight modules are explicitly given under the assumptions that $k$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and the orders of $χ$ and $χ(a)$ are the same.
We study the category $\mathcal{F}_n$ of finite-dimensional integrable representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}(n)$. We define an action of the Temperley--Lieb algebra with infinitely many generators and defining parameter $0$ on the category $\mathcal{F}_n$ by translation functors. We also introduce combinatorial tools, called weight diagrams and arrow diagrams for $\mathfrak{p}(n)$ resembling those for $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. Using the Temperley--Lieb algebra action and the combinatorics of weight and arrow diagrams, we then calculate the multiplicities of standard and…
Let $W$ be a finite Coxeter group and $Ω$ be its $W$-graph algebra as defined by Gyoja. The author's previous paper \cite{hahn2016wgraphs} considered this algebra in some detail, proposed, and proved in some small cases the $W$-graph decomposition conjecture. The purpose of the current paper is to prove a reduction theorem for (a slightly stronger version of) that conjecture to indecomposable Coxeter groups in the sense that the conjecture is true for $W=W_1\times W_2$ if it holds for $W_1$ and $W_2$.
In this text, we characterize the representation type of an acyclic quiver by the properties of its associated quiver Grassmannians. This characterization utilizes and extends known results about singular quiver Grassmannians and cell decompositions into affine spaces. While all quiver Grassmannians for indecomposable representations of quivers of finite representation types $A$ and $D$ are smooth and admit cell decompositions, it turns out that all quiver Grassmannians for indecomposable representations of quivers of tame types $A$ and $D$ admit cell decompositions, but some of these quiver G…
For an acyclic quiver with three vertices, we consider the canonical decomposition of a non-Schurian root and associate certain representations of a generalized Kronecker quiver. These representations correspond to points contained in the intersection of two subvarieties of a Grassmannian and give rise to representations of the original quiver, preserving indecomposability. We show that these subvarieties intersect using Schubert calculus. Provided that the intersection contains a Schurian representation, it already contains an open subset of Schurian representations whose dimension is what we…
Let $G$ be the special linear group of degree $2$ over an algebraically closed field $K$. Let $E$ be the natural module and $S^rE$ the $r$th symmetric power. We consider here, for $r,s\geq 0$, the tensor product of $S^rE$ and the dual of $S^sE$. In characteristic zero this tensor product decomposes according to the Clebsch-Gordan formula. We consider here the situation when $K$ is a field of positive characteristic. We show that each indecomposable component occurs with multiplicity one and identify which modules occur for given $r$ and $s$.
We use tilting modules to study the structure of the tensor product of two simple modules for the algebraic group $\SL_2$, in positive characteristic, obtaining a twisted tensor product theorem for its indecomposable direct summands. Various other related results are obtained, and numerous examples are computed.
In this paper, we study the Green ring (or the representation ring) of Drinfeld quantum double $D(H_4)$ of Sweedler's 4-dimensional Hopf algebra $H_4$. We first give the decompositions of the tensor products of finite dimensional indecomposable modules into the direct sum of indecomposable modules over $D(H_4)$. Then we describe the structure of the Green ring $r(D(H_4))$ of $D(H_4)$ and show that $r(D(H_4))$ is generated, as a ring, by infinitely many elements subject to a family of relations.
Recently Tewari and van Willigenburg constructed modules of the 0-Hecke algebra that are mapped to the quasisymmetric Schur functions by the quasisymmetric characteristic and decomposed them into a direct sum of certain submodules. We show that these submodules are indecomposable by determining their endomorphism rings.
We show that a pointwise finite-dimensional persistence module indexed over a small category decomposes into a direct sum of indecomposables with local endomorphism rings. As an application of this result we give new, short proofs of fundamental structure theorems for persistence modules.
Let $Q$ be a quiver of extended Dynkin type $D$. In this first of two papers, we show that the quiver Grassmannian $Gr_e(M)$ has a decomposition into affine spaces for every dimension vector $e$ and every indecomposable representation $M$ of defect $-1$ and defect $0$, with exception of the non-Schurian representations in homogeneous tubes. We characterize the affine spaces in terms of the combinatorics of a fixed coefficient quiver for $M$. The method of proof is to exhibit explicit equations for the Schubert cells of $Gr_e(M)$ and to solve this system of equations successively in linear term…
Motivated by the relation between Schur algebra and the group algebra of a symmetric group, along with other similar examples in algebraic Lie theory, Min Fang and Steffen Koenig addressed some behaviour of the endomorphism algebra of a generator over a symmetric algebra, which they called gendo-symmetric algebra. Continuing this line of works, we classify in this article the representation-finite gendo-symmetric algebras that have at most one isomorphism class of indecomposable non-injective projective module. We also determine their almost ν-stable derived equivalence classes in the sense of…
Let $n$ be a positive integer and $λ$ be a partition of $n$. Let $M^λ$ be the Young permutation module labelled by $λ$. In this paper, we study symmetric and exterior powers of $M^λ$ in positive characteristic case. We determine the symmetric and exterior powers of $M^λ$ that are projective. All the indecomposable exterior powers of $M^λ$ are also classified. We then prove some results for indecomposable direct summands that have the largest complexity in direct sum decompositions of some symmetric and exterior powers of $M^λ$. We end by parameterizing all the Scott modules that are isomorphic…
We construct generators of the center of the universal enveloping algebra of the complex orthogonal Lie algebra realized as the alternative matrices of size $n$. These elements are constructed in accordance with the Iwasawa decomposition of the real rank one indefinite orthogonal Lie algebra. We also discuss the Iwasawa decomposition of the Pfaffian.
We consider a category of modules that admit compatible actions of the commutative algebra of Laurent polynomials and the Lie algebra of divergence zero vector fields on a torus and have a weight decomposition with finite dimensional weight spaces. We classify indecomposable and irreducible modules in this category.
We study the $H_n(0)$-module $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$ due to Tewari and van Willigenburg, which was constructed using new combinatorial objects called standard permuted composition tableaux and decomposed into cyclic submodules. First, we show that every direct summand appearing in their decomposition is indecomposable and characterize when $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$ is indecomposable. Second, we find characteristic relations among $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$'s and expand the image of $\mathbf{S}^σ_α$ under the quasi characteristic in terms of quasisymmetric Schur functions. Finally, we show that the canonical submodule o…
We show that a tilted algebra $A$ is tame if and only if for each generic root $\dd$ of $A$ and each indecomposable irreducible component $C$ of $\module(A,\dd)$, the field of rational invariants $k(C)^{\GL(\dd)}$ is isomorphic to $k$ or $k(x)$. Next, we show that the tame tilted algebras are precisely those tilted algebras $A$ with the property that for each generic root $\dd$ of $A$ and each indecomposable irreducible component $C \subseteq \module(A,\dd)$, the moduli space $\M(C)^{ss}_θ$ is either a point or just $\mathbb P^1$ whenever $θ$ is an integral weight for which $C^s_θ\neq \emptyse…
Let $A$ be the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver $Q$ over a finite field, and $\mathscr{P}$ be the category of projective $A$-modules. Denote by $C^1(\mathscr{P})$ the category of 1-cyclic complexes over $\mathscr{P}$, and $\tilde{\mathfrak{n}}^+$ the vector space spanned by the isomorphism classes of indecomposable and non-acyclic objects in $C^1(\mathscr{P})$. In this paper, we prove the existence of Hall polynomials in $C^1(\mathscr{P})$, and then establish a relationship between the Hall numbers for indecomposable objects therein and those for $A$-modules. Using Hall polynomials evaluated at…
We study the structure of the $0$-Schur algebra $S_0(n, r)$ following the geometric construction of $S_0(n, r)$ by Jensen and Su \cite{JS}. The main results are the construction and classification of indecomposable projective modules. In addition, we construct bases of these modules and their homomorphism spaces. We also give a filtration of projective modules, which leads to a decomposition of $S_0(n,r)$ into indecomposable left modules.
Recently, the Fischer decomposition for polynomials on superspace R^{m|2n} (that is, polynomials in m commuting and 2n anti-commuting variables) has been obtained unless the superdimension M=m-2n is even and non-positive. In this case, it turns out that the Fischer decomposition of polynomials into spherical harmonics is quite analogous as in R^m and it is an irreducible decomposition under the natural action of Lie superalgebra osp(m|2n). In this paper, we describe explicitly the Fischer decomposition in the exceptional case when M is even and non-positive. In particular, we show that, under …
Let $A$ be the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver over a finite field, and let $C_1(\mathscr{P})$ be the category of 1-cyclic complexes of projective $A$-modules. In the present paper, we give a PBW-basis and a minimal set of generators for the Hall algebra $\H(C_1(\mathscr{P}))$ of $C_1(\mathscr{P})$. Using this PBW-basis, we firstly prove the degenerate Hall algebra of $C_1(\mathscr{P})$ is the universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra spanned by all indecomposable objects. Secondly, we calculate the relations in the generators in $\H(C_1(\mathscr{P}))$, and obtain quantum Serre relations…
In a categorification of tensor products of fundamental representations of quantum sl(k) via highest weight categories, the indecomposable tilting modules descend to the canonical basis. Since projective functors map tilting modules to tilting modules, the coefficients of the canonical basis of tensor products of finite dimensional, irreducible representations under the action of the Chevalley generators are positive.
For a smooth surface $S$, Porta-Sala defined a categorical Hall algebra generalizing previous work in K-theory of Zhao and Kapranov-Vasserot. We construct semi-orthogonal decompositions for categorical Hall algebras of points on $S$. We refine these decompositions in K-theory for a topological K-theoretic Hall algebra.
Given a sequence $\vec d=(d_1,\dots,d_k)$ of natural numbers, we consider the Lie subalgebra $\mathfrak{h}$ of $\mathfrak{gl}(d,\mathbb{F})$, where $d=d_1+\cdots +d_k$ and $\mathbb{F}$ is a field of characteristic 0, generated by two block upper triangular matrices $D$ and $E$ partitioned according to $\vec d$, and study the problem of computing the nilpotency degree $m$ of the nilradical $\mathfrak{n}$ of $\mathfrak{h}$. We obtain a complete answer when $D$ and $E$ belong to a certain family of matrices that arises naturally when attempting to classify the indecomposable modules of certain so…
We study the finite dimensional modules on the half-quantum group u_q^+ at a root of unity q, whose action can be extended to u_q (quotient of the quantized enveloping algebra of sl_2). We derive decomposition formulas of the tensor product of indecomposable u_q^+-modules, which includes the cases of the universal and the quantized universal enveloping algebra of sl_2 for q not a root of unity. We also prove that simple modules on u_q correspond exactly to the extendable non projective u_q^+-modules. We thus establish decomposition formulas for the tensor product of simple u_q-modules.
We continue the study of the Drinfeld double of the Jordan plane, denoted by $\mathcal D$ and introduced in arXiv:2002.02514. The simple finite-dimensional modules were computed in arXiv:2108.13849; it turns out that they factorize through $U(\spl_2(\Bbbk))$. Here we introduce the Verma modules and the category $\mathfrak O$ for $\mathcal D$, which have a resemblance to the similar ones in Lie theory but induced from indecomposable modules of the 0-part of the triangular decomposition. Accordingly, there is the notion of highest weight rank (hw-rk). We classify the indecomposable modules of hw…
