By introducing a generalized notion of multiple zeta values associated with an arbitrary finite subset $S\subset \mathbb{P}^1(\mathbb{C})$ and studying their transformation properties under rational functions, we show that multiple polylogarithms evaluated at roots of unity (cyclotomic multiple zeta values, CMZVs) can be equivalently expressed in terms of iterated integrals involving certain non-roots of unity.
We apply this theory to elucidate previously unknown $\mathbb{Q}$-linear relations among CMZVs: they come from nontrivial solutions of certain $S$-unit equations in the function field of $\mathbb{P}^1(\mathbb{C})$, thereby attaining the motivic dimension for low level and weight. We introduce a datamine of CMZVs that appears to be the first rigorous compilation of this kind in the literature.
In addition, we formulate several nontrivial Galois descent conjectures for multiple polylogarithms and present applications to certain Apéry-type infinite series.
It is known that multiple zeta values can be written in terms of certain iterated log-sine integrals. Conversely, we evaluate iterated log-sine integrals in terms of multiple polylogarithms and multiple zeta values in this paper. We also suggest some conjectures on multiple zeta values, multiple Clausen values, multiple Glaisher values and iterated log-sine integrals.
In this paper we show that the iterated integrals on products of one variable multiple polylogarithms from 0 to 1 are actually multiple zeta values if they are convergent. In the divergent case, we define regularized iterated integrals from 0 to 1. By the same method, we show that the regularized iterated integrals are also multiple zeta values. As an application, we give new series representations for multiple zeta values and calculate some interesting examples of iterated integrals.
In this paper we shall define the analytic continuation of the multiple polylogarithms by using Chen's theory of iterated path integrals and compute the monodromy of all multiple logarithms explicitly.
In this paper, we give a natural construction of mixed Tate motives whose periods are a class of iterated integrals which include the multiple polylogarithm functions. Given such an iterated integral, we construct two divisors $A$ and $B$ in the moduli spaces $\mathcal{\bar{M}}_{0,n}$ of $n$-pointed stable curves of genus 0, and prove that the cohomology of the pair $(\mathcal{\bar{M}}_{0,n}-A,B-B\cap A)$ is a framed mixed Tate motive whose period is that integral. It generalizes the results of A. Goncharov and Yu. Manin for multiple zeta values. Then we apply our construction to the dilogarit…
This is a summary for the authors' article "The formal KZ equation on the moduli space ${\mathcal M}_{0,5}$ and the harmonic product of multiple zeta values" (prerint (2009) arXiv:0910.0718), including a new result on the five term relation for the dilogarithm. This note will appear in the RIMS Kôkyûroku for the conference on "Representation Theory and Combinatorics" held at Hokkaido University from August 25th to 28th, 2009.
In this paper, we introduce iterated integrals associated with colored rooted trees and give proofs for the shuffle relations for $\boldsymbol{p}$-adic finite and $t$-adic symmetric polylogarithms. This method generalizes the theory of the finite multiple zeta values associated with $2$-colored rooted trees introduced by Ono.
We introduce an iterated integral version of (generalized) log-sine integrals (iterated log-sine integrals) and prove a relation between a multiple polylogarithm and iterated log-sine integrals. We also give a new method for obtaining relations among multiple zeta values, which uses iterated log-sine integrals, and give alternative proofs of several known results related to multiple zeta values and log-sine integrals.
We consider multiple polylogarithms in a single variable at non-positive integers. Defining a connected graded Hopf algebra, we apply Connes' and Kreimer's algebraic Birkhoff decomposition to renormalize multiple polylogarithms at non-positive integer arguments, which satisfy the shuffle relation. The q-analogue of this result is as well presented, and compared to the classical case.
We clarify the relationship between different multiple polylogarithms in weight~4 by writing suitable linear combinations of a given type of iterated integral I_{n_1,...,n_d}(z_1,...,z_d), in depth d>1 and weight \sum_i n_i=4 in terms of the classical tetralogarithm Li_4. In the process, we prove a statement conjectured by Goncharov which can be rephrased as writing the sum of iterated integrals I_{3,1}(V(x,y),z), where V(x,y) denotes a formal version of the five term relation for the dilogarithm, in terms of Li_4-terms (we need 122 such).
We study the de Rham fundamental group of the configuration space $E^{(n)}$ of $n+1$ marked points on an elliptic curve $E$, and define multiple elliptic polylogarithms. These are multivalued functions on $E^{(n)}$ with unipotent monodromy, and are constructed by a general averaging procedure. We show that all iterated integrals on $E^{(n)}$, and in particular the periods of the unipotent fundamental group of the punctured curve $E \backslash \{0\}$, can be expressed in terms of these functions.
In this article, we express solutions of the Gauss hypergeometric equation as a series of the multiple polylogarithms by using iterated integral. This representation is the most simple case of a semisimple representation of solutions of the formal KZ equation. Moreover, combining this representation with the connection relations of solutions of the Gauss hypergeometric equation, we obtain various relations of the multiple polylogarithms of one variable and the multiple zeta values.
The duality relation of one-variable multiple polylogarithms was proved by Hirose, Iwaki, Sato and Tasaka by means of iterated integrals. In this paper, we give a new proof using the method of connected sums, which was recently invented by Seki and the author. Interestingly, the connected sum involves the hypergeometric function in its connector. Moreover, we introduce two kinds of $q$-analogues of the one-variable multiple polylogarithms and generalize the duality to them.
In this paper we consider iterated integrals of multiple polylogarithm functions and prove some explicit relations of multiple polylogarithm functions. Then we apply the relations obtained to find numerous formulas of alternating multiple zeta values in terms of unit-exponent alternating multiple zeta values. In particular, we prove several conjectures given by Borwein-Bradley-Broadhurst \cite{BBBL1997}, and give some general results. Furthermore, we discuss Kaneko-Yamamoto multiple zeta values, and establish some relations between it and multiple zeta values. Finally, we establish a linear re…
This is a sequel to our previous paper (joint with Furusho). It will give a more natural framework for constructing elements in the Hopf algebra of framed mixed Tate motives according to Bloch and Kriz. This framework allows us to extend our previous results to interpret all multiple zeta values (including the divergent ones) and the multiple polylogarithms in one variable as elements of this Hopf algebra. It implies that the pro-unipotent completion of the torsor of paths on projective line minus three points, is a mixed Tate motive in the sense of Bloch-Kriz. Also It allows us to interpret t…
Feynman integrals are central to all calculations in perturbative Quantum Field Theory. They often give rise to iterated integrals of dlog-forms with algebraic arguments, which in many cases can be evaluated in terms of multiple polylogarithms. This has led to certain folklore beliefs in the community stating that all such integrals evaluate to polylogarithms. Here we discuss a concrete example of a double iterated integral of two dlog-forms that evaluates to a period of a cusp form. The motivic versions of these integrals are shown to be algebraically independent from all multiple polylogarit…
We consider nested sums involving the Pochhammer symbol at infinity and rewrite them in terms of a small set of constants, such as powers of $π,$ $\log(2)$ or zeta values. In order to perform these simplifications, we view the series as specializations of generating series. For these generating series, we derive integral representations in terms of root-valued iterated integrals or directly in terms of cyclotomic harmonic polylogarithms. Using substitutions, we express the root-valued iterated integrals as cyclotomic harmonic polylogarithms. Finally, by applying known relations among the cyclo…
We generalize the definition of overconvergent $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms and of $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values and we prove a bound on their norm. A byproduct of the proof is a characterization of these objects in terms of certain regularized $p$-adic iterated integrals. The generalization of the definition consists in replacing the underlying Frobenius structure by its iterations. The bound on the norms of overconvergent $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms that we obtain is a prerequisite for our subsequent papers on $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values.
For an elliptic curve $E$ defined over a field $k\subset \mathbb C$, we study iterated path integrals of logarithmic differential forms on $E^\dagger$, the universal vectorial extension of $E$. These are generalizations of the classical periods and quasi-periods of $E$, and are closely related to multiple elliptic polylogarithms and elliptic multiple zeta values. Moreover, if $k$ is a finite extension of $\mathbb Q$, then these iterated integrals along paths between $k$-rational points are periods in the sense of Kontsevich--Zagier.
Chen's iterated integrals may be generalized by interpolation of functions of the positive integer number of times which particular forms are iterated in integrals along specific paths, to certain complex values. These generalized iterated integrals satisfy both an additive and a (non-classical) multiplicative iterative property, in addition to a comultiplication formula. This theory is developed in the first part of the paper, after which various applications are discussed, including the expression of certain zeta functions as complex iterated integrals (from which an obstruction to the exist…
We construct algebraic cycles in Bloch's cubical cycle group which correspond to multiple polylogarithms with generic arguments. Moreover, we construct out of them a Hopf subalgebra in the Bloch-Kriz cycle Hopf algebra. In the process, we are led to other Hopf algebras built from trees and polygons, which are mapped to the latter. We relate the coproducts to the one for Goncharov's motivic multiple polylogarithms and to the Connes-Kreimer coproduct on plane trees and produce the associated Hodge realization for polygons.
Our main aim in this paper is to give a foundation of the theory of $p$-adic multiple zeta values. We introduce (one variable) $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms by Coleman's $p$-adic iterated integration theory. We define $p$-adic multiple zeta values to be special values of $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms. We consider the (formal) $p$-adic KZ equation and introduce the $p$-adic Drinfel'd associator by using certain two fundamental solutions of the $p$-adic KZ equation. We show that our $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms appear as coefficients of a certain fundamental solution of the $p$-adic KZ…

We investigate iterated integrals on an elliptic curve, which are a natural genus-one generalization of multiple polylogarithms. These iterated integrals coincide with the multiple elliptic polylogarithms introduced by Brown and Levin when constrained to the real line. At unit argument they reduce to an elliptic analogue of multiple zeta values, whose network of relations we start to explore. A simple and natural application of this framework are one-loop scattering amplitudes in open superstring theory. In particular, elliptic multiple zeta values are a suitable language to express their low …
Elliptic modular graph forms (eMGFs) are non-holomorphic modular forms depending on a modular parameter $τ$ of a torus and marked points $z$ thereon. Traditionally, eMGFs are constructed from nested lattice sums over the discrete momenta on the worldsheet torus in closed-string genus-one amplitudes. In this work, we develop methods to translate the lattice-sum realization of eMGFs into iterated integrals over modular parameters $τ$ of the torus with particular focus on cases with one marked point. Such iterated-integral representations manifest algebraic and differential relations among eMGFs …
Let $T$ be the triangle with vertices (1,0), (0,1), (1,1). We study certain integrals over $T$, one of which was computed by Euler. We give expressions for them both as a linear combination of multiple zeta values, and as a polynomial in single zeta values. We obtain asymptotic expansions of the integrals, and of sums of certain multiple zeta values with constant weight. We also give related expressions for Euler's constant. In the final section, we evaluate more general integrals -- one is a Chen (Drinfeld-Kontsevich) iterated integral -- over some polytopes that are higher-dimensional analog…
By using the method of iterated integral representations of series, we establish some explicit relationships between multiple zeta values and Integrals of logarithmic functions. As applications of these relations, we show that multiple zeta values of the form \[ζ( {\bar 1,{\left\{ 1 \right\}_{m - 1}},\bar 1,{\left\{ 1 \right\}_{k - 1}}} ),\ (k,m\in \mathbb{N})\] for $m=1$ or $k=1$, and \[ζ( {\bar 1,{\left\{ 1 \right\}_{m - 1}},p,{\left\{ 1 \right\}_{k - 1}}}),\ (k,m\in\mathbb{N})\] for $p=1$ and $2$, satisfy certain recurrence relations which allow us to write them in terms of zeta values, pol…
In this paper we present some new identities for multiple polylogarithms (abbr. MPLs) and multiple harmonic star sums (abbr. MHSSs) by using the methods of iterated integral computations of logarithm functions. Then, by applying these formulas obtained, we establish some explicit relations between Kaneko-Yamamoto type multiple zeta values (abbr. K-Y MZVs), multiple zeta values (abbr. MZVs) and MPLs. Further, we find some explicit relations between MZVs and multiple zeta star values (abbr. MZSVs). Furthermore, we define an Apéry-type variant of MZSVs $ζ^\star_B({\bf k})$ (called multiple zeta $…
This paper finds relationships between multiple logarithms with a dihedral group action on the arguments. I generalize the combinatorics developed in Gangl, Goncharov and Levin's R-deco polygon representation of multiple logarithms to find these relations. By writing multiple logarithms as iterated integrals, my arguments are valid for iterated integrals as over an arbitrary field.
In this paper we prove some new identities for multiple zeta values and multiple zeta star values of arbitrary depth by using the methods of integral computations of logarithm function and iterated integral representations of series. By applying these formulas, we can prove that multiple zeta star values whose indices are the sequences $(\bar 1,\{1\}_m,\bar 1)$ and $(2,\{1\}_m,\bar 1)$ can be expressed polynomially in terms of zeta values, polylogarithms and $\ln2$. Finally, we also evaluate several restricted sum formulas involving multiple zeta values.

Classical multiple zeta values can be viewed as iterated integrals of the differentials $\frac{dt}{t}, \frac{dt}{1-t}$ from $0$ to $1$. In this paper, we reprove Brown's theorem: For $a_i, b_i, c_{ij}\in \mathbb{Z}$, the iterated integral of the form \[ \mathop{\int\cdots \int}\limits_{0<t_1<\cdots<t_N<1}\prod_i t_i^{a_i}(1-t_i)^{b_i} \prod_{i<j}(t_j-t_i)^{c_{ij}}dt_1\cdots dt_N \] is a $\mathbb{Q}$-linear combination of multiple zeta values of weight $\leq N$ if convergent. What is more, we show that if $p_i(t), 1\leq i\leq N, $ are in a $\mathbb{Q}\left[t,1/t, 1/(1-t)\right]$-algebra generat…
This introductory paper studies a class of real analytic functions on the upper half plane satisfying a certain modular transformation property. They are not eigenfunctions of the Laplacian and are quite distinct from Maass forms. These functions are modular equivariant versions of real and imaginary parts of iterated integrals of holomorphic modular forms, and are modular analogues of single-valued polylogarithms. The coefficients of these functions in a suitable power series expansion are periods. They are related both to mixed motives (iterated extensions of pure motives of classical modula…
In this paper, the author constructs a family of algebraic cycles in Bloch's cubical cycle complex over the projective line minus three points which are expected to correspond to multiple polylogarithms in one variable. Elements in this family are in particular equidimensional over the projective line minus three points. In weight greater or equal to $2$, they are naturaly extended as equidimensional cycle over the affine line. This allows to consider their fibers at the point 1 and this is one of the main differences with Gangl, Goncharov and Levin work where generic arguments are imposed for…
We study the algebraic and analytic structure of Feynman integrals by proposing an operation that maps an integral into pairs of integrals obtained from a master integrand and a corresponding master contour. This operation is a coaction. It reduces to the known coaction on multiple polylogarithms, but applies more generally, e.g. to hypergeometric functions. The coaction also applies to generic one-loop Feynman integrals with any configuration of internal and external masses, and in dimensional regularization. In this case, we demonstrate that it can be given a diagrammatic representation pure…
