The modified Bessel function of the second kind $K_{iν}(x)$ of imaginary order for fixed $x>0$ possesses a countably infinite sequence of real zeros. Recently it has been shown that the $n$th zero behaves like $ν_n\sim πn/\log\,n$ as $n\to\infty$. In this note we determine a more precise estimate for the bahaviour of these zeros for large $n$ by making use of the known asymptotic expansion of $K_{iν}(x)$ for large $ν$. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the accuracy of the expansion obtained.
Discrete analogs of the index transforms, involving Bessel and the modified Bessel functions are introduced and investigated. The corresponding inversion theorems for suitable classes of functions and sequences are established.
Simple inequalities are established for some integrals involving the modified Bessel functions of the first and second kind. In most cases these inequalities are tight in certain limits. As a consequence, we deduce a tight double inequality, involving the modified Bessel function of the first kind, for a generalized hypergeometric function. We also present some open problems that arise from this research.
We investigate the asymptotic expansion of integrals analogous to Ball's integral \[\int_0^\infty \left(\frac{Γ(1+ν)|J_ν(x)|}{(x/2)^ν}\right)^{\!n}dx\] for large $n$ in which the Bessel function $J_ν(x)$ is replaced by the modified Bessel functions $I_ν(x)$ and $K_ν(x)$ together with appropriate exponential factors $e^{\mp x}$, respectively. The above integral with $J_ν(x)$ replaced by a hyper-Bessel function of the type recently discussed in Aktas {\it et al.} [The Ramanujan J., 2019] and taken over a finite interval determined by the first positive zero of the function is also considered for…
Simple inequalities are established for some integrals involving the modified Bessel functions of the first and second kind. In most cases, we show that we obtain the best possible constant or that our bounds are tight in certain limits. We apply these inequalities to obtain uniform bounds for several expressions involving integrals of modified Bessel functions. Such expressions occur in Stein's method for variance-gamma approximation, and the results obtained in this paper allow for technical advances in the method. We also present some open problems that arise from this research.
Recently Dixit, Kesarwani, and Moll introduced a generalization $K_{z,w}(x)$ of the modified Bessel function $K_{z}(x)$ and showed that it satisfies an elegant theory similar to $K_{z}(x)$. In this paper, we show that while $K_{\frac{1}{2}}(x)$ is an elementary function, $K_{\frac{1}{2},w}(x)$ can be written in the form of an infinite series of Humbert functions. As an application of this result, we generalize the transformation formula for the logarithm of the Dedekind eta function $η(z)$.
The resurgence properties of the Hankel and Bessel functions of nearly equal order and argument
本文的目的是利用M. V. Berry和C. J. Howls(Berry and Howls,Proc. R.长索克A 434(1991)657- 675)。
We examine the sum of modified Bessel functions with argument depending quadratically on the summation index given by \[S_ν(a)=\sum_{n\geq 1} (\frac{1}{2} an^2)^{-ν} K_ν(an^2)\qquad (|\arg\,a|<π/2)\] as the parameter $|a|\to 0$. It is shown that the positive real $a$-axis is a Stokes line, where an infinite number of increasingly subdominant exponentially small terms present in the asymptotic expansion undergo a smooth, but rapid, transition as this ray is crossed. Particular attention is devoted to the details of the expansion on the Stokes line as $a\to 0$ through positive values. Numerical …
We examine the sum of modified Bessel functions with argument depending non-linearly on the summation index given by \[S_{ν,p}(a)=\sum_{n\geq 1} (an^p/2)^{-ν} K_ν(an^p)\qquad (a>0,\ 0\leqν<1)\] as the parameter $a\to 0+$, where $p$ denotes an integer satisfying $p\geq 2$. This extends previous work for the cases $p=1$ (linear) and $p=2$ (quadratic). The expansion as $a\to0+$ consists of an infinite number of asymptotic sums involving the Riemann zeta function, which when optimally truncated lead to remainder terms that are exponentially small in the parameter $a$. The number of these exponenti…
The modified Bessel functions $K_ν(z)$, or, for brevity, K-Bessel functions, arise at key places in analytic number theory. In particular, they appear in beautiful arithmetic identities. A survey of these arithmetical identities and their appearances in number theory is provided.
We have used recent integral representations of the derivatives of the Bessel functions with respect to the order to obtain closed-form expressions in terms of generalized hypergeometric functions and Meijer-$G$ functions. Also, we have carried out similar calculations for the derivatives of the modified Bessel functions with respect to the order, obtaining closed-form expressions as well. For this purpose, we have obtained integral representations of the derivatives of the modified Bessel functions with respect to the order. As by-products, we have calculated two non-tabulated integrals.
We examine convergent representations for the sum of Bessel functions \[\sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{J_μ(na) J_ν(nb)}{n^α}\] for $μ$, $ν\geq0$ and positive values of $a$ and $b$. Such representations enable easy computation of the series in the limit $a, b\to0+$. Particular attention is given to logarithmic cases that occur both when $a=b$ and $a\neq b$ for certain values of $α$, $μ$ and $ν$. The series when the first Bessel function is replaced by the modified Bessel function $K_μ(na)$ is also investigated, as well as the series with two modified Bessel functions.
The $ν$-zeros of the Bessel functions of purely imaginary order are examined for fixed argument $x>0$. In the case of the modified Bessel function of the second kind $K_{iν}(x)$, it is known that it possesses a countably infinite sequence of real $ν$-zeros described by $ν_n\sim πn/\log\,n$ as $n\to\infty$. Here we apply a unified approach to determine asymptotic estimates of the $ν$-zeros of the modified Bessel functions $L_{iν}(x)\equiv I_{iν}(x)+I_{-iν}(x)$ and $K_{iν}(x)$ and the ordinary Bessel functions $J_{iν}(x)\pm J_{-iν}(x)$.
Simple upper and lower bounds are obtained for the integral $\int_0^x\mathrm{e}^{-γt}t^νI_ν(t)\,\mathrm{d}t$, $x>0$, $ν>-\frac{1}{2}$, $0<γ<1$. Most of our bounds for this integral are tight as $x\rightarrow\infty$. We apply one of our inequalities to bound some expressions involving this integral. Two of these expressions appear in Stein's method for variance-gamma approximation, and our bounds will allow for a technical advancement to be made to the method.
Let $I_ν(x)$ and $K_ν(x)$ be the first and second kind modified Bessel functions. It is shown that the nullclines of the Riccati equation satisfied by $x^α Φ_{i,ν}(x)$, $i=1,2$, with $Φ_{1,ν}=I_{ν-1}(x)/I_ν(x)$ and $Φ_{2,ν}(x)=-K_{ν-1}(x)/K_ν(x)$, are bounds for $x^α Φ_{i,ν}(x)$, which are solutions with unique monotonicity properties; these bounds hold at least for $\pm α\notin (0,1)$ and $ν\ge 1/2$. Properties for the product $P_ν(x)=I_ν(x)K_ν(x)$ can be obtained as a consequence; for instance, it is shown that $P_ν(x)$ is decreasing if $ν\ge -1$ (extending the known range of this result) an…
Complete monotonicity, completely monotonic degree, integral representations, and an inequality related to the exponential, trigamma, and modified Bessel functions
Discrete analogs of the Lebedev transforms with the product of the modified Bessel functions are introduced and investigated. Several expansions of suitable functions and sequences in terms of the series and integrals, involving the modified and incomplete Bessel functions are established.
The order derivatives of the modified Bessel function of the second kind at s = .5 are obtained as finite expressions of integrals that generalize the exponential integral appearing in the first derivative (Theorem 1.) The derivatives arise in the investigation of a BesselK relationship with the Riemann zeta function. Any use of the term, derivative, with respect to a Bessel function, here means a derivative with respect to its order.
