We investigate the Cauchy problem and the diffusion asymptotics for a spatially inhomogeneous kinetic model associated to a nonlinear Fokker-Planck operator. We derive the global well-posedness result with instantaneous smoothness effect, when the initial data lies below a Maxwellian. The proof relies on the hypoelliptic analog of classical parabolic theory, as well as a positivity-spreading result based on the Harnack inequality and barrier function methods. Moreover, the scaled equation leads to the fast diffusion flow under the low field limit. The relative phi-entropy method enables us to see the connection between the overdamped dynamics of the nonlinearly coupled kinetic model and the correlated fast diffusion. The global in time quantitative diffusion asymptotics is then derived by combining entropic hypocoercivity, relative phi-entropy and barrier function methods.
We study the Cauchy problem for Fokker--Planck--Kolmogorov equations with unbounded and degenerate coefficients. Sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of solutions are indicated.
In the work an explicit formula of a solution of analogue of a Cauchy problem for an inhomogeneous manydimensional polycaloric equation with Bessel operator was found. Manydimensional Erdelyi-Kober operator of the fractional order was applied to construction of a solution
We study uniqueness of flows of probability measures solving the Cauchy problem for nonlinear Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equation with unbounded coefficients. Sufficient conditions for uniqueness are indicated and examples of non-uniqueness are constructed.
The exact solution of the Cauchy problem for a generalized "linear" vectorial Fokker-Planck equation is found using the disentangling techniques of R. Feynman and algebraic (operational) methods. This approach may be considered as a generalization of the Masuo Suzuki's method for solving the 1-dimensional linear Fokker-Planck equation.
In this paper we study the Cauchy problem for the energy-critical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_{t}u+Δu=λ|x|^{-α}|u|^βu$ in $H^1$. The well-posedness theory in $H^1$ has been intensively studied in recent years, but the currently known approaches do not work for the critical case $β=(4-2α)/(n-2)$. It is still an open problem. The main contribution of this paper is to develop the theory in this case.
The Cauchy problem to the Fokker-Planck-Boltzmann equation under Grad's angular cut-off assumption is investigated. When the initial data is a small perturbation of an equilibrium state, global existence and optimal temporal decay estimates of classical solutions are established. Our analysis is based on the coercivity of the Fokker-Planck operator and an elementary weighted energy method.
This work deals with the inhomogeneous Landau equation on the torus in the cases of hard, maxwellian and moderately soft potentials. We first investigate the linearized equation and we prove exponential decay estimates for the associated semigroup. We then turn to the nonlinear equation and we use the linearized semigroup decay in order to construct solutions in a close-to-equilibrium setting. Finally, we prove a exponential stability for such a solution, with a rate as close as we want to the optimal rate given by the semigroup decay.
In this work, we investigate the Cauchy problem for the spatially inhomogeneous non-cutoff Kac equation. If the initial datum belongs to the spatially critical Besov space, we can prove the well-posedness of weak solution under a perturbation framework. Furthermore, it is shown that the solution enjoys Gelfand-Shilov regularizing properties with respect to the velocity variable and Gevrey regularizing properties with respect to the position variable. In comparison with the recent result in [18], the Gelfand-Shilov regularity index is improved to be optimal. To the best of our knowledge, our wo…
We obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem for a fractional semilinear heat equation with an inhomogeneous term. We identify the strongest spatial singularity of the inhomogeneous term for the solvability of the Cauchy problem.
Inspired by the modeling of grain growth in polycrystalline materials, we consider a nonlinear Fokker-Plank model, with inhomogeneous diffusion and with variable mobility parameters. We develop large time asymptotic analysis of such nonstandard models by reformulating and extending the classical entropy method, under the assumption of periodic boundary condition. In addition, illustrative numerical tests are presented to highlight the essential points of the current analytical results and to motivate future analysis.
We consider the Cauchy problem for doubly nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations with inhomogeneous density on noncompact Riemannian manifolds. We give a qualitative classification of the behavior of the solutions of the problem depending on the behavior of the density function at infinity and the geometry of the manifold, which is described in terms of its isoperimetric function. We establish for the solutions properties as: stabilization of the solution to zero for large times, finite speed of propagation, universal bounds of the solution, blow up of the interface. Each one of these behavi…
The local existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for Cauchy problem of three-dimensional inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes-Vlasov equations
In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the critical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation \[iu_{t} +Δu=|x|^{-b} f(u), ~u(0)=u_{0} \in H^{s} (\mathbb R^{n} ),\] where $n\ge3$, $1\le s<\frac{n}{2} $, $0<b<2$ and $f(u)$ is a nonlinear function that behaves like $λ\left|u\right|^{σ} u$ with $λ\in \mathbb C$ and $σ=\frac{4-2b}{n-2s} $. We establish the local well-posedness as well as the small data global well-posedness and scattering in $H^{s} (\mathbb R^{n} )$ with $1\le s<\frac{n}{2}$ for the critical INLS equation under some assumption on $b$. To this end, we first establi…
We study the "one and one-half" dimensional Vlasov-Maxwell-Fokker-Planck system and obtain the first results concerning well-posedness of solutions. Specifically, we prove the global-in-time existence and uniqueness in the large of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem and a gain in regularity of the distribution function in its momentum argument.
In this paper, we investigate the problems of Cauchy theory and exponential stability for the inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation without angular cut-off. We only deal with the physical case of hard potentials type interactions (with a moderate angular singularity). We prove a result of existence and uniqueness of solutions in a close-to-equilibrium regime for this equation in weighted Sobolev spaces with a polynomial weight, contrary to previous works on the subject, all developed with a weight prescribed by the equilibrium. It is the first result in this more physically relevant frameworkfor th…
We consider a Kolmogorov-Fokker-Planck operator of the kind studied by Lanconelli-Polidoro in [Rend. Sem. Mat. Univ. Politec. Torino 52 (1994)], where the leading coefficients $a_{ij}$, instead of being constant, are bounded measurable functions of t. We construct an explicit fundamental solution for this operator, study its property, show a comparison result between this function and the fundamental solution of some model operators with constant $a_{ij}$, and show the unique solvability of the Cauchy problem under various assumptions on the initial datum.
In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the energy-critical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with inverse-square potential \[iu_{t} +Δu-c|x|^{-2}u=λ|x|^{-b} |u|^{σ} u,\; u(0)=u_{0} \in H^{1},\;(t,x)\in \mathbb R\times\mathbb R^{d},\] where $d\ge3$, $λ=\pm1$, $0<b<2$, $σ=\frac{4-2b}{d-2}$ and $c>-c(d):=-\left(\frac{d-2}{2}\right)^{2}$. We first prove the local well-posedness as well as small data global well-posedness and scattering in $H^{1}$ for $c>-\frac{(d+2-2b)^{2}-4}{(d+2-2b)^{2}}c(d)$ and $0<b<\frac{4}{d}$, by using the contraction mapping principle based on the Strich…
In a recent paper Calogero and Alcantara derived a Lorentz-invariant Fokker-Planck equation, which corresponds to the evolution of a particle distribution associated with relativistic Brownian Motion. We study the "one and one-half" dimensional version of this problem with nonlinear electromagnetic interactions - the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell-Fokker-Planck system - and obtain the first results concerning well-posedness of solutions. Specifically, we prove the global-in-time existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem and a gain in regularity of the distribution func…
The smoothing effect of the Cauchy problem for a class of kinetic equations is studied. We firstly consider the spatially homogeneous non linear Landau equation with Maxwellian molecules and inhomogeneous linear Fokker-Planck equation to show the ultra-analytic effects of the Cauchy problem. Those smoothing effect results are optimal and similar to heat equation. In the second part, we study a model of spatially inhomogeneous linear Landau equation with Maxwellian molecules, and show the analytic effect of the Cauchy problem.
We start with a global Maxwellian $M_{k}$, which is a stationary solution, with the constant total density ($ρ(t)\equiv \wt ρ$), of the Fokker-Planck equation. The notion of distance between the function $M_{k}$ and an arbitrary solution $f$ (with the same total density $\wt ρ$ at the fixed moment $t$) of the Fokker-Planck equation is introduced. In this way, we essentially generalize the important Kullback-Leibler distance, which was studied before. Using this generalization, we show local stability of the global Maxwellians in the spatially inhomogeneous case. We compare also the energy and …
We consider the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation \[iu_{t} +Δu=|x|^{-b} f(u),\;u(0)\in H^{s} (\mathbb R^{n} ),\] where $n\in \mathbb N$, $0<s<\min \{ n,\; 1+n/2\} $, $0<b<\min \{ 2,\;n-s,\;1+\frac{n-2s}{2} \} $ and $f(u)$ is a nonlinear function that behaves like $λ\left|u\right|^{σ} u$ with $σ>0$ and $λ\in \mathbb C$. Recently, An--Kim \cite{AK21} proved the local existence of solutions in $H^{s}(\mathbb R^{n} )$ with $0\le s<\min \{ n,\; 1+n/2\}$. However even though the solution is constructed by a fixed point technique, continuous dependence in the …
We define a class of pseudo-differential operators in a completely new way, which is called the abstract operators and expounded systematically the theory of abstract operators. By combining abstract operators with the Laplace transform, we can apply the Laplace transform to any $n+1$ dimensional linear higher-order partial differential equations $P(\partial_x,\partial_t)u=f(x,t)$ directly, without using the Fourier transform. By making introduction of abstract operators $G(\partial_x,t):=\mathcal{L}^{-1}[1/P(\partial_x,s)]$, the analytic solutions of initial value problems are expressed in th…
The Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous Helmholtz equation with non-uniform refraction index is considered. The ill-posedness of this problem is tackled by means of the variational form of mollification. This approach is proved to be consistent, and the proposed numerical simulations are quite promising.

The FENE dumbbell model consists of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation and the Fokker-Planck equation for the polymer distribution. In such a model, the polymer elongation cannot exceed a limit $\sqrt{b}$, yielding all interesting features near the boundary. In this paper we establish the local well-posedness for the FENE dumbbell model under a class of Dirichlet-type boundary conditions dictated by the parameter $b$. As a result, for each $b>0$ we identify a sharp boundary requirement for the underlying density distribution, while the sharpness follows from the existence result for eac…
We show that solutions of nonlinear nonlocal Fokker--Planck equations in a bounded domain with no-flux boundary conditions can be approximated by Cauchy problems with increasingly strong confining potentials defined in the whole space. Two different approaches are analyzed, making crucial use of uniform estimates for $L^2$ energy functionals and free energy (or entropy) functionals respectively. In both cases, we prove that the weak formulation of the problem in a bounded domain can be obtained as the weak formulation of a limit problem in the whole space involving a suitably chosen sequence o…
In this article we study the Gevrey regularization effect for the spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff. This equation is partially elliptic in the velocity direction and degenerates in the spatial variable. We consider the nonlinear Cauchy problem for the fluctuation around the Maxwellian distribution and prove that any solution with mild regularity will become smooth in Gevrey class at positive time, with Gevrey index depending on the angular singularity. Our proof relies on the symbolic calculus for the collision operator and the global subelliptic estimate for t…
Diffusion in inhomogeneous materials can be described by both the Fick and Fokker--Planck diffusion equations. Here, we study a mixed Fick and Fokker-Planck diffusion problem with coefficients rapidly oscillating both in space and time. We obtain macroscopic models performing the homogenization limit by means of the unfolding technique.
This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for an inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation with exponential growth nonlinearity and harmonic potential in two space dimensions. We prove global well-posedness, existence of the associated ground state and instability of the standing wave.
We revisit the 2D Cauchy problem of nonhomogeneous heat conducting magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations in $\mathbb{R}^2$. For the initial density allowing vacuum at infinity, we derive the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the initial density and the initial magnetic decay not too slowly at infinity. In particular, the initial data can be arbitrarily large. This improves our previous work where the initial density has non-vacuum states at infinity. The result could also be viewed as an extension of the study in L{ü}-Xu-Zhong for the inhomogeneous case to the ful…
We consider an inhomogeneous linear Boltzmann equation, with an external confining potential. The collision operator is a simple relaxation toward a local Maxwellian, therefore without diffusion. We prove the exponential time decay toward the global Maxwellian, with an explicit rate of decay. The methods are based on hypoelliptic methods transposed here to get spectral information. They were inspired by former works on the Fokker-Planck equation and the main feature of this work is that they are relevant although the equation itself has no regularizing properties.
We study the spatially inhomogeneous Landau equations with hard potential in the perturbation setting, and establish the analytic smoothing effect in both spatial and velocity variables for a class of low-regularity weak solutions. This shows the Landau equations behave essentially as the hypoelliptic Fokker-Planck operators. The spatial analyticity relies on a new time-average operator, and the proof is based on a straightforward energy estimate with a careful estimate on the derivatives with respect to the new time-average operator.
We consider the spatially inhomogeneous non-cutoff Kac's model of the Boltzmann equation. We prove that the Cauchy problem for the fluctuation around the Maxwellian distribution enjoys Gelfand-Shilov regularizing properties with respect to the velocity variable and Gevrey regularizing properties with respect to the position variable.
We study the Cauchy problem for an inhomogeneous Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We first derive a sharp threshold for global existence and blow up of the solution. Then we construct and classify finite time blow up solutions at the minimal mass threshold. Additionally, using variational techniques, we study the existence, the orbital stability and instability of standing waves.
We deal with the Cauchy problem for a perturbed wave equation in the half-plane with data given on a part of the space-time boundary. The equation in consideration describes a wave process in a laterally inhomogeneous medium. We propose a reconstruction algorithm, which is applicable to the problem of determining nonstationary wave field from boundary data arising in geophysics.
We study the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation perturbed by a stochastic Vlasov force term. When the noise intensity is not too large, we solve the Cauchy Problem in a class of well-localized (in velocity) functions. We also show that, when the noise intensity is sufficiently small, the system with prescribed mass admits a unique invariant measure which is exponentially mixing. The proof uses hypocoercive decay estimates and hypoelliptic gains of regularity. At last we also exhibit an explicit example showing that some restriction on the noise intensity is indeed required.
We establish elliptic regularity for nonlinear inhomogeneous Cauchy-Riemann equations under minimal assumptions, and give a counterexample in a borderline case. In some cases where the inhomogeneous term has a separable factorization, the solution set can be explicitly calculated. The methods also give local parametric formulas for pseudoholomorphic curves with respect to some continuous almost complex structures.
We study the existence and regularity of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous heat equation on compact Riemannian manifolds with conical singularities. We introduce weighted Hölder and Sobolev spaces with discrete asymptotics and we prove existence and maximal regularity of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous heat equation, when the free term lies in a weighted parabolic Hölder or Sobolev space with discrete asymptotics. This generalizes a result previously obtained by Coriasco, Schrohe, and Seiler (Thm. 7.2 in Math. Z. 244 (2003), 235--269) by different mean…
This paper is dedicated to the question of surjectivity of the Cauchy-Riemann operator on spaces $\mathcal{EV}(Ω,E)$ of $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}$-smooth vector-valued functions whose growth on strips along the real axis with holes $K$ is induced by a family of continuous weights $\mathcal{V}$. Vector-valued means that these functions have values in a locally convex Hausdorff space $E$ over $\mathbb{C}$. We characterise the weights $\mathcal{V}$ which give a counterpart of the Grothendieck-Köthe-Silva duality $\mathcal{O}(\mathbb{C}\setminus K)/\mathcal{O}(\mathbb{C})\cong\mathscr{A}(K)$ with non-…
In this paper, we investigate the well-posedess of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem of Navier-Stokes equations, and prove that the classical solution with finite energy does not exist even in the inhomogeneous Sobolev space for any short time under some natural assumptions on initial data near the vacuum. This implies in particular that the homogeneous Sobolev space is crucial as studying the well-posedness for the Cauchy problem of compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the presence of vacuum at far fields even locally in time.
This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem of the multi-dimensional incompressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with inhomogeneous density and fractional dissipation. It is shown that when $α+β=1+\frac{n}{2}$ satisfying $1\leq β\leq α\leq\min \{\frac{3β}{2},\frac{n}{2},1+\frac{n}{4}\}$ and $\frac{n}{4}<α$ for $n\geq3$ , then the inhomogeneous incompressible MHD equations has a unique global strong solution for the initial data in Sobolev space which do not need a small condition.
