We compute the entanglement entropy in a two dimensional conformal field theory at finite size and finite temperature in the large central charge limit via the replica trick. We first generalize the known monodromy method for the calculation of conformal blocks on the plane to the torus. Then, we derive a monodromy method for the zero-point conformal blocks of the replica partition function. We explain the differences between the two monodromy methods before applying them to the calculation of the entanglement entropy. We find that the contribution of the vacuum exchange dominates the entanglement entropy for a large class of CFTs, leading to universal results in agreement with holographic predictions from the RT formula. Moreover, we determine in which regime the replica partition function agrees with a correlation function of local twist operators on the torus.
The effect of a co--dimension--2 spherical monodromy defect on the free--field theory of a conformal scalar is investigated. The conformal anomaly is computed (in two ways) and thence the Rényi and entanglement entropies. The $C_T$ central charge is found to be negative for a range of monodromy flux. The calculations are pursued for any even dimensional sphere. A Possible conflict with existing results is raised.
We show that the $D=11$ Supermembrane theory (M2-brane) compactified on a $M_9 \times T^2$ target space, with constant fluxes $C_{\pm}$ naturally incorporates the geometrical structure of a twisted torus. We extend the M2-brane theory to a formulation on a twisted torus bundle. It is consistently fibered over the world volume of the M2-brane. It can also be interpreted as a torus bundle with a nontrivial $U(1)$ connection associated to the fluxes. The structure group $G$ is the area preserving diffeomorphisms. The torus bundle is defined in terms of the monodromy associated to the isotopy clas…
After deriving the classical Ward identity for the variation of the action under a change of the modulus of the torus we map the problem of the sphere with four sources to the torus. We extend the method previously developed for computing the classical conformal blocks for the sphere topology to the tours topology. We give the explicit results for the classical blocks up to the third order in the nome included and compare them with the classical limit of the quantum conformal blocks. The extension to higher orders is straightforward.
Motivated by the question of bulk localization in holography, we study the problem of constructing multi-centered solutions in higher spin gravity which describe point particles in the interior of AdS$_3$. In the Chern-Simons formulation these take into account the backreaction after adding Wilson line sources. We focus on chiral solutions where only the left-moving sector is excited. In that case it is possible to choose a gauge where the dynamical variables are a set of Toda fields living in the bulk. The problem then reduces to solving the $\mathcal{A}_{N-1}$ Toda equations with delta funct…
The effect of a spherical monodromy defect on the entanglement entropy and central charge $C_T$ of a free conformal scalar field propagating on an odd-dimensional sphere is investigated. As on even spheres the central charge becomes negative for a range of the flux parameter, $δ$, with possible implications for reflection positivity. The work is mostly numerical but closed forms are found for the $Z_2$ monodromy ($δ=1/2$) yielding an explicit $d\to\infty$ limit, $C_T\to -6/π$
In this paper, we study large $c$ Virasoro blocks by using the Zamolodchikov monodromy method beyond its known limits. We give an analytic proof of our recent conjectur, which implied that the asymptotics of the large $c$ conformal blocks can be expressed in very simple forms, even if outside its known limits, namely the semiclassical limit or the heavy-light limit. In particular, we analytically discuss the fact that the asymptotic behavior of large $c$ conformal blocks drastically changes when the dimensions of external primary states reach the value $\frac{c}{32}$, which is conjectured by o…
We consider the conformal block decomposition in arbitrary exchange channels of a two-dimensional conformal field theory on a torus. The channels are described by diagrams built of a closed loop with external legs (a necklace sub-diagram) and trivalent vertices forming trivalent trees attached to the necklace. Then, the $n$-point torus conformal block in any channel can be obtained by acting with a number of OPE operators on the $k$-point torus block in the necklace channel at $k=1,...,n$. Focusing on the necklace channel, we go to the large-$c$ regime, where the Virasoro algebra truncates to …
We study co-dimension two monodromy defects in theories of conformally coupled scalars and free Dirac fermions in arbitrary $d$ dimensions. We characterise this family of conformal defects by computing the one-point functions of the stress-tensor and conserved current for Abelian flavour symmetries as well as two-point functions of the displacement operator. In the case of $d=4$, the normalisation of these correlation functions are related to defect Weyl anomaly coefficients, and thus provide crucial information about the defect conformal field theory. We provide explicit checks on the values …
In this paper we study compactifications of ADE type conformal matter, N M5 branes probing ADE singularity, on torus with flux for global symmetry. We systematically construct the four dimensional theories by first going to five dimensions and studying interfaces. We claim that certain interfaces can be associated with turning on flux in six dimensions. The interface models when compactified on a circle comprise building blocks for constructing four dimensional models associated to flux compactifications of six dimensional theories on a torus. The theories in four dimensions turn out to be qui…
Implications of inserting a conformal, monodromy line defect in three dimensional O($N$) models are studied. We consider then the WF O($N$) model, and study the two-point Green's function for bulk-local fields found from both the bulk-defect expansion and Feynman diagrams. This yields the anomalous dimensions for bulk- and defect-local primaries as well as one of the OPE coefficients as $ε$-expansions to the first loop order. As a check on our results, we study the $(ϕ^k)^2ϕ^j$ operator both using the bulk-defect expansion as well as the equations of motion.
In this paper we obtain the complete classification of the inequivalent classes of M2-brane symplectic torus bundles with monodromy in $SL(2,Z)$ and their precise U-duality relations among them. There are eight inequivalent classes of bundles whose monodromy groups, at low energies, are in correspondence with the gauging groups of the eight type II gauged supergravities in nine dimensions. Four of those have been previously found and they correspond to the 'type IIB side'. In this paper we provide the explicit realization of the remaining four classes associated to the 'type IIA side'. The pre…
We consider large-$c$ $n$-point Virasoro blocks with $n-k$ background heavy operators and $k$ perturbative heavy operators. Conformal dimensions of heavy operators scale linearly with large $c$, while splitting into background/perturbative operators assumes an additional perturbative expansion. Such conformal blocks can be calculated within the monodromy method that basically reduces to solving auxiliary Fuchsian second-order equation and finding monodromy of solutions. We show that there exist particular variables that we call holographic, use of which drastically simplifies the whole analysi…
We explore the structures of light cone and Regge limit singularities of $n$-point Virasoro conformal blocks in $c>1$ two-dimensional conformal field theories with no chiral primaries, using fusion matrix approach. These CFTs include not only holographic CFTs dual to classical gravity, but also their full quantum corrections, since this approach allows us to explore full $1/c$ corrections. As the important applications, we study time dependence of Renyi entropy after a local quench and out-of-time ordered correlator (OTOC) at late time. We first show that, the $n$-th ($n>2$) Renyi entropy afte…
We use analytical bootstrap techniques to study supersymmetric monodromy defects in the critical Wess-Zumino model. In preparation for this result we first study two related systems which are interesting on their own: general monodromy defects (no susy), and the $\varepsilon$--expansion bootstrap for the Wess-Zumino model (no defects). For general monodromy defects, we extend previous work on codimension-two conformal blocks and the Lorentzian inversion formula in order to accommodate parity-odd structures. In the Wess-Zumino model, we bootstrap four-point functions of chiral operators in the …
We derive recursive representations in the internal weights of N-point Virasoro conformal blocks in the sphere linear channel and the torus necklace channel, and recursive representations in the central charge of arbitrary Virasoro conformal blocks on the sphere, the torus, and higher genus Riemann surfaces in the plumbing frame.
The Wilsonian renormalization group properties of the conformal factor of the metric are profoundly altered by the fact that it has a wrong-sign kinetic term. If couplings are chosen so that the quantum field theory exists on $\mathbb{R}^4$, it fails to exist on manifolds below a certain size, if a certain universal shape function turns negative. We demonstrate that this is triggered by inhomogeneity in the cases of $\mathbb{T}^4$ and $\mathbb{T}^3\times\mathbb{R}$, including twisted versions. Varying the moduli, we uncover a rich phenomenology.
