We consider unconstrained formulation of the higher spin gauge theory in anti de Sitter (AdS) spacetime, given by actions [1, 2], and provide on-shell supersymmetry transformations for the $\mathcal{N}=1$ unconstrained massless higher spin supermultiplet in four-dimensional AdS$_4$. Such an irreducible supermultiplet $(Φ_1, Φ_2 \,; Ψ_1,Ψ_2)$ contains a pair of bosonic fields, with opposite parity, which are generating functions (infinite collection of totally symmetric real tensor fields of all integer rank $s= 0, 1, \ldots, \infty$), as well as two fermionic fields, which have opposite signs of the AdS radius, that are spinorial generating functions (infinite tower of totally symmetric Majorana spinor-tensor fields of all half-integer spin $s={\scriptstyle \frac{1}{2}}, {\scriptstyle \frac{3}{2}}, \ldots, \infty$).
Massive arbitrary spin supermultiplets and massless (scalar and spin one-half) supermultiplets of the N=2 Poincare superalgebra in three-dimensional flat space are considered. Both the integer spin and half-integer spin supermultiplets are studied. For such massive and massless supermultiplets, a formulation in terms of light-cone gauge unconstrained superfields defined in a momentum superspace is developed. For the supermultiplets under consideration a superspace first derivative representation for all cubic interaction vertices is obtained. A superspace representation for dynamical generator…
In recent papers arXiv:1103.3564 and arXiv:1103.3565, Gates and Koutrolikos announced the construction of new off-shell formulations for massless higher spin supermultiplets. Here we demonstrate that all of their models are obtained from (some of) those constructed in 1993 by Kuzenko, Postnikov and Sibiryakov by applying special field redefinitions.
We derive the component Lagrangian for the free $N$-extended on-shell massless higher spin supermultiplets in four-dimensional anti-de Sitter space. The construction is based on frame-like description of massless integer and half-integer higher spin fields. The massless supermultiplets are formulated for $N\leq 4k,$ where $k$ is a maximal integer or half-integer spin in the multiplet. The supertransformations that leave the Lagrangian invariant are found and it is shown that their algebra is closed on-shell.
In the recent paper [1] the classification of non-unitary representations of the three dimensional superconformal group has been constructed. From AdS/CFT they must correspond to N=1 supermultiplets containing partially massless fields in $AdS_4$. Moreover, the simplest example of such supermultiplets which contains a partially massless spin-2 was explicitly constructed. In this paper we extend this result and develop explicit Lagrangian construction of general N=1 supermultiplets containing partially massless fields with arbitrary superspin. We use the frame-like gauge invariant description o…
In the framework of light-cone gauge formulation, massless arbitrary spin N=1 supermultiplets in four-dimensional flat space are considered. We study both the integer (super)spin and half-integer (super)spin supermultiplets. For such supermultiplets, formulation in terms of unconstrained light-cone gauge superfields defined on chiral momentum superspace is used. Superfield representation for all cubic interaction vertices of the supermultiplets is obtained. Representation of the cubic vertices in terms of component fields is derived. Realization of relativistic symmetries of N=1 Poincare super…
N-extended massless arbitrary integer and half-integer spin supermultiplets in four dimensional flat space are studied in the framework of light-cone gauge formalism. For such multiplets, by using light-cone momentum superspace, we build unconstrained light-cone gauge superfield formulation. The superfield formulation is used to develop a superspace representation for all cubic interactions vertices of the N-extended massless supermultiplets. Our suitable treatment of the light-cone gauge superfields allows us to obtain attractively simple superspace representation for the cubic interaction ve…
We provide an explicit Lagrangian construction for the massless infinite spin N=1 supermultiplet in four dimensional Minkowski space. Such a supermultiplet contains a pair of massless bosonic and a pair of massless fermionic infinite spin fields with properly adjusted dimensionful parameters. We begin with the gauge invariant Lagrangians for such massless infinite spin bosonic and fermionic fields and derive the supertransformations which leave the sum of their Lagrangians invariant. It is shown that the algebra of these supertransformations is closed on-shell.
We construct a range of supersymmetric cubic vertices for three massless higher spin supermultiplets in the four-dimensional space. We use frame-like multispinor formalism, which allows to avoid most of the technical difficulties and provides a uniform description for bosons and fermions. Our work is based on the so-called Fradkin-Vasiliev formalism for construction of the cubic vertices, which requires the non-zero cosmological constant. Thus we first construct the vertices in AdS space and then consider the flat limit. We show that the AdS supersymmetric vertex is a sum of four elementary ve…
Low energy theorems of Nambu-Goldstone fermion associated with spontaneously broken supersymmetry are studied for gauge supermultiplets. Two possible terms in the effective Lagrangian are needed to deal with massless gaugino and/or massless gauge boson. As an illustrative example, a concrete model is worked out which can interpolate massless as well as massive gaugino and/or gauge boson to examine the low energy effective interaction of NG-fermion.
We consider d=10 N=1 supersymmetry algebra with maximal number of tensor charges Z and introduce a class of orbits of Z, invariant w.r.t. the $T_8$ subgroup of massless particles' little group $T_8\ltimes SO(8)$. For that class of orbits we classify all possible orbits and little groups, which appear to be semidirect products of $T_8\ltimes SO(k_1)\times ... SO(k_n)$ form, with $k_1+...+k_n=8$, where compact factor is embedded into SO(8) by triality map. We define actions of little groups on supercharge Q and construct corresponding supermultiplets. In some particular cases we show the existen…
The action for a massless particle in 4D Minkowski space has a worldline time-reversing symmetry corresponding to CPT invariance of the quantum theory. The analogous symmetry of the N-extended superparticle is shown to be anomalous when N is odd, in the supertwistor formalism this is because a CPT-violating worldline-Chern-Simons term is needed to preserve the chiral U(1) gauge invariance. This accords with the fact that no massless N=1 super-Poincaré irrep is CPT-self-conjugate. There is a CPT self-conjugate supermultiplet when N is even, but it has $2^{N+1}$ states when N/2 is odd (e.g. the …
Realization of the conformal higher spin symmetry on the 4d massless field supermultiplets is given. The self-conjugated supermultiplets, including the linearized ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theory, are considered in some detail. Duality between non-unitary field-theoretical representations and the unitary doubleton--type representations of the 4d conformal algebra $su(2,2)$ is formulated in terms of a Bogolyubov transform. The set of 4d massless fields of all spins is shown to form a representation of $sp(8)$. The obtained results are extended to the generalized superspace invariant under $osp(L, 2M)$ s…
Recently N. Berkovits, motivated by the supertwistor description of ${\cal N}=4 D=4$ super Yang-Mills, considered the generalization of the ${\cal N}=1 D=4$ $θ$-twistor construction to D=10 and applied it for a compact covariant description of ${\cal N}=1 D=10$ super Yang-Mills. This supports the relevance of the $θ$-twistor as a supersymmetric twistor alternative to the well-known supertwistor. The minimal breaking of superconformal symmetry is an inherent property of the $θ$-twistor received from its fermionic components, described by a Grassmannian vector instead of a Grassmannian scalar in…
In this paper we construct massive supermultiplets out of appropriate set of massless ones in the same way as massive spin s particle could be constructed out of massless spin s,s-1,... ones leading to gauge invariant description of massive particle. Mainly we consider massive spin 3/2 supermultiplets in a flat d=4 Minkowski space both without central charge for N=1,2,3 as well as with central charge for N=2,4. Besides, we give two examples of massive N=1 supermultiplets with spin 3/2 and 2 in AdS_4 space.
We study the minimal unitary representation (minrep) of SO(4,2) over an Hilbert space of functions of three variables, obtained by quantizing its quasiconformal action on a five dimensional space. The minrep of SO(4,2), which coincides with the minrep of SU(2,2) similarly constructed, corresponds to a massless conformal scalar in four spacetime dimensions. There exists a one-parameter family of deformations of the minrep of SU(2,2). For positive (negative) integer values of the deformation parameter ζone obtains positive energy unitary irreducible representations corresponding to massless conf…
We give an explicit superspace construction of higher spin conserved supercurrents built out of $4D,\mathcal{N}=1$ massless supermultiplets of arbitrary spin. These supercurrents are gauge invariant and generate a large class of cubic interactions between a massless supermultiplet with superspin $Y_1=s_1+1/2$ and two massless supermultiplets of arbitrary superspin $Y_2$. These interactions are possible only for $s_1\geq 2Y_2$. At the equality, the supercurrent acquires its simplest form and defines the supersymmetric, higher spin extension of the linearized Bel-Robinson tensor.
This paper is mainly concerned with the construction of new off-shell higher spin N=1 supermultiplets in three spacetime dimensions. We elaborate on the gauge prepotentials and linearised super-Cotton tensors for higher spin N=1 superconformal geometry and propose compensating superfields required to formulate off-shell massless higher spin supermultiplets. The corresponding gauge-invariant actions are worked out explicitly using an auxiliary oscillator realisation. We construct, for the first time, off-shell massive higher spin supermultiplets. The gauge-invariant actions for these supermulti…
In this paper we construct explicit Lagrangian formulation for the massive spin-2 supermultiplets with N = k supersymmetries k = 1,2,3,4. Such multiplets contain 2k particles with spin-3/2, so there must exist N = 2k local supersymmetries in the full nonlinear theories spontaneously broken so that only N = k global supersymmetries remain unbroken. In this paper we unhide these hidden supersymmetries by using gauge invariant formulation for massive high spin particles. Such formulation, operating with the right set of physical degrees of freedom from the very beginning and having non-singular m…
We give explicit construction for massive higher spin supermultiplets for the case of minimal supersymmetry in d=3 and find the corresponding Lagrangian formulations. We show that all such massive supermultiplets can be straightforwardly constructed out of the appropriately chosen set of massless ones exactly in the same way as the gauge invariant description for the massive bosonic (fermionic) field with spin s can be obtained using a set of massless fields with spins s,s-1,...,0(1/2). Moreover, such construction for the massive supermultiplets turns out to be perfectly consistent with our pr…
We study the unitary supermultiplets of the N=8, d=5 anti-de Sitter (AdS) superalgebra SU(2,2|4) which is the symmetry algebra of the IIB string theory on AdS_5 X S^5. We give a complete classification of the doubleton supermultiplets of SU(2,2|4) which do not have a Poincare limit and correspond to d=4 conformal field theories (CFT) living on the boundary of AdS_5. The CPT self-conjugate irreducible doubleton supermultiplet corresponds to d=4, N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory. The other irreducible doubleton supermultiplets come in CPT conjugate pairs. The maximum spin range of the general doubl…
We study the relation between a supermatrix model and the free 4D, N=1 supersymmetric field theory of a massless supermultiplet with spins (3, 5/2). In order to do this, we construct a superfield formulation of the theory. We show that solutions of the equations of motion for the supermultiplet (3, 5/2) satisfy the equations of motion of a supermatrix model.
A new description of free massless superfields of arbitrary superspin $Y$ ($Y>1/2$) is proposed. Following the first-order philosophy, we relax some of the properties (reality, gauge redundancy) of the unconstrained higher spin prepotentials and we construct first and half order invariants quantities. These are used to write trivially invariant actions. Additional auxiliary superfields that play the role of spin connections are used to enforce a new local symmetry that restores the degrees of freedom.
Minimal unitary representation of SO*(8) = SO(6,2) realized over the Hilbert space of functions of five variables and its deformations labeled by the spin t of an SU(2) subgroup correspond to massless conformal fields in six dimensions as was shown in arXiv:1005.3580. In this paper we study the minimal unitary supermultiplet of OSp(8*|2N) with the even subgroup SO*(8) x USp(2N) and its deformations using quasiconformal methods. We show that the minimal unitary supermultiplet of OSp(8*|2N) admits deformations labeled uniquely by the spin t of an SU(2) subgroup of the little group SO(4) of light…
Within the framework of (2,0) anti-de Sitter (AdS) supersymmetry in three dimensions, we propose a multiplet of higher-spin currents. Making use of this supercurrent, we construct two off-shell gauge formulations for a massless multiplet of half-integer superspin $(s+\frac 12)$, for every integer $s>0$. In the $s=1$ case, one formulation describes the linearised action for (2,0) anti-de Sitter supergravity, while the other gives the type III minimal supergravity action in (2,0) AdS superspace, with both linearised supergravity actions originally derived in arXiv:1109.0496. The constructed mass…
We review the oscillator construction of the unitary representations of noncompact groups and supergroups and study the unitary supermultiplets of OSp(1/32,R) in relation to M-theory. OSp(1/32,R) has a singleton supermultiplet consisting of a scalar and a spinor field. Parity invariance leads us to consider OSp(1/32,R)_L X OSp(1/32,R)_R as the "minimal" generalized AdS supersymmetry algebra of M-theory corresponding to the embedding of two spinor representations of SO(10,2) in the fundamental representation of Sp(32,R). The contraction to the Poincare superalgebra with central charges proceeds…
We review the component Lagrangian construction of the supersymmetric higher spin models in three dimensional (3D) Minkowski and anti de Sitter (AdS) spaces. The approach is based on the frame-like gauge invariant formulation, where massive higher spin fields are realized through a system of massless ones. We develop a supersymmetric generalization of this formulation to the Lagrangian construction of the on-shell N=1, 3D higher spin supermultiplets. In 3D Minkowski space we show that the massive supermultiplets can be constructed from one extended massless supermultiplet by adding the mass te…
We consider cubic interactions of the form $s-Y-Y$ between a massless integer superspin $s$ supermultiplet and two massless arbitrary integer or half integer superspin $Y$ supermultiplets. We focus on non-minimal interactions generated by gauge invariant supercurrent multiplets which are bilinear in the superfield strength of the superspin $Y$ supermultiplet. We find two types of consistent supercurrents. The first one corresponds to conformal integer superspin $s$ supermultiplets, exist only for even values of $s, s=2\ell+2$, for arbitrary values of $Y$ and it is unique. The second one, corre…
We study the positive energy unitary representations of 2N extended superconformal algebras OSp(8*|2N) in six dimensions. These representations can be formulated in a particle basis or a supercoherent state basis, which are labeled by the superspace coordinates in d=6. We show that the supercoherent states that form the bases of positive energy representations of OSp(8*|2N) can be identified with conformal superfields in six dimensions. The massless conformal superfields correspond precisely to the ultra short doubleton supermultiplets of OSp(8*|2N). The other positive energy unitary represent…
We construct simple unconstrained Lagrangian formulations for massless higher spin fields in flat space of arbitrary dimension and on anti de Sitter background. Starting from the triplet equations of Francia and Sagnotti, which describe a chain of spin modes, we introduce an auxiliary field and find appropriate gauge invariant constraints that single out the spin-s mode. The resulting quartet of fields, thus describing an irreducible representation of the Poincare group, is used to construct simple Lagrangian formulations, which are local, free from higher derivative terms and use equal number…
New method (arXiv:2104.11930) is applied to construct cubic interactions of massless spin 4 and real scalar fields. In contrast with the case of massless spin 3 fields (arXiv:2208.05700, 2209.03678, 2210.02842) the procedure requires to use an unconstrained formulation (arXiv:0702.161) for the Fronsdal theory. It is shown that in the unconstrained formulation there exists a four-parameter family of cubic interactions between massless spin 4 and real scalar fields, which contains four derivatives in vertices and is invariant with respect to the original gauge transformation. These vertices cont…
The representation theory underlying the infinite-component relativistic wave equation written by Majorana is revisited from a modern perspective. On the one hand, the massless solutions of this equation are shown to form a supermultiplet of the superPoincare algebra with tensorial central charges; it can also be obtained as the infinite spin limit of massive solutions. On the other hand, the Majorana equation is generalized for any space-time dimension and for arbitrary Regge trajectories. Inspired from these results, an infinite supermultiplet of massive fields of all spins and of equal mass…
We construct, for the first time, an off-shell supersymmetric continuous spin gauge theory in 4-dimensional Minkowski spacetime, in both constrained and unconstrained Lagrangian formulations. As an extension to the on-shell description [1], we employ an auxiliary field to close the algebra of supersymmetry transformations off-shell. The 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ massless continuous spin supermultiplet is then denoted by $(\mathrmΦ, \mathrm{H} \,; \mathrmΨ)$, comprised of a dynamical and a non-dynamical complex scalar continuous spin gauge fields $\mathrmΦ$ and $\mathrm{H}$, as well as a Dirac continu…
Off-shell higher spin N=2 supermultiplets in three spacetime dimensions (3D) are presented in this paper. We propose gauge prepotentials for higher spin superconformal gravity and construct the corresponding gauge-invariant field strengths, which are proved to be conformal primary superfields. These field strengths are higher spin generalisations of the (linearised) N=2 super-Cotton tensor, which controls the superspace geometry of conformal supergravity. We also construct the higher spin extensions of the linearised N=2 conformal supergravity action. We provide two dually equivalent off-shell…
We study theories of 4D, N=1 supersymmetric massless, arbitrary integer superspins. A new state-of-the art is being established by the discovery of a new series of such theories for arbitrary superspin Y (Y=s for any integer s) The lowest member of the series is surprisingly found to be a previously established formulation of the spin (3/2, 1) supermultiplet.
Some massless supermultiplets appear as the trivial solution of Kostant's equation, a Dirac-like equation over special cosets. We study two examples; one over the coset SU(3)/SU(2) times U(1) contains the N=2 hypermultiplet in (3+1) dimensions with U(1) as helicity; the other over the coset F_4/SO(9) describes the N=1 supermultiplet in eleven dimensions, where SO(9) is the light-cone little group. We present the general solutions to Kostant's equation for both cases; they describe massless physical states of arbitrary spins which display the same relations as the fields in the supermultiplets.…
This thesis presents the general structure of non-conformal higher-spin supercurrent multiplets in three and four spacetime dimensions. Such supercurrents are in one-to-one correspondence with off-shell massless higher-spin gauge supermultiplets, some of which are constructed in this thesis for the first time. In the first part of the thesis, we propose a new off-shell formulation for a massless integer superspin multiplet, whose gauge-invariant action involves an unconstrained complex superconformal prepotential, in conjunction with two types of compensators. Next, we deduce the structure of …
We continue our study of the unitary supermultiplets of the N=8, d=5 anti-de Sitter (AdS_5) superalgebra SU(2,2|4), which is also the N=4 extended conformal superalgebra in d=4. We show explicitly how to go from the compact SU(2)XSU(2)XU(1) basis to the non-compact SL(2,C)XD basis of the positive energy unitary representations of the conformal group SU(2,2) in d=4. The doubleton representations of the AdS_5 group SU(2,2), which do not have a smooth Poincare limit in d=5, are shown to represent fields with vanishing masses in four dimensional Minkowski space. The unique CPT self-conjugate irred…
We study the unitary supermultiplets of the N=4 d=7 anti-de Sitter (AdS_7) superalgebra OSp(8^*|4), with the even subalgebra SO(6,2) X USp(4), which is the symmetry superalgebra of M-theory on AdS_7 X S^4. We give a complete classification of the positive energy doubleton and massless supermultiplets of OSp(8^*|4) . The ultra-short doubleton supermultiplets do not have a Poincaré limit in AdS_7 and correspond to superconformal field theories on the boundary of AdS_7 which can be identified with d=6 Minkowski space. We show that the six dimensional Poincare mass operator vanishes identically fo…
We present N=2 supersymmetry transformations, both in N=1, D=4 Minkowski and anti-de Sitter superspaces, for higher superspin massless theories. It is noted that the existence of dual versions of massless supermultiplets with arbitrary superspin s may provide a basis for understanding duality in N=1, D=4 superstring theory. We further conjecture that the N=1, D=4 supergravity pre-potential together with all higher superspin s pre-potentials are components of an N=1, D=4 superstring pre-potential.
We consider heterotic string theories compactified on a K3 surface which lead to an unbroken perturbative gauge group of Spin(32)/Z2. All solutions obtained are combinations of two types of point-like instanton --- one ``simple type'' as discovered by Witten and a new type associated to the ``generalized second Stiefel-Whitney class'' as introduced by Berkooz et al. The new type of instanton is associated to an enhancement of the gauge symmetry by Sp(4) and the addition of a massless tensor supermultiplet. It is shown that if four simple instantons coalesce at an orbifold point in the K3 surfa…
A new twistorial field formulation of a massless infinite spin particle is derived. We find a twistorial infinite spin field and derive its helicity decomposition. The twistorial equations of motion for infinite spin fields in the cases of integer and half-integer helicities are derived. We show that the infinite integer-spin field and infinite half-integer-spin field form the $\mathcal{N}{=}\,1$ infinite spin supermultiplet. The corresponding supersymmetry transformations are presented. We prove that the supersymmetry algebra is closed on-shell.
We investigate cubic interactions between a chiral superfield and higher spin superfield corresponding to irreducible representations of the $4D,\, \mathcal{N}=1$ super-Poincaré algebra. We do this by demanding an invariance under the most general transformation, linear in the chiral superfield. Following Noether's method we construct an infinite tower of higher spin supercurrent multiplets which are quadratic in the chiral superfield and include higher derivatives. The results are that a single, massless, chiral superfield can couple only to the half-integer spin supermultiplets $(s+1,s+1/2)$…
We study the minimal unitary representation (minrep) of SO(6,2) over an Hilbert space of functions of five variables, obtained by quantizing its quasiconformal realization. The minrep of SO(6,2), which coincides with the minrep of SO*(8) similarly constructed, corresponds to a massless conformal scalar field in six spacetime dimensions. There exists a family of "deformations" of the minrep of SO*(8) labeled by the spin t of an SU(2)_T subgroup of the little group SO(4) of lightlike vectors. These deformations labeled by t are positive energy unitary irreducible representations of SO*(8) that d…
The massless supermultiplet of eleven-dimensional supergravity can be generated from the decomposition of certain representation of the exceptional Lie group F4 into those of its maximal compact subgroup Spin(9). In an earlier paper, a dynamical Kaluza-Klein origin of this observation is proposed with internal space the Cayley plane, OP2, and topological aspects are explored. In this paper we consider the geometric aspects and characterize the corresponding forms which contribute to the action as well as cohomology classes, including torsion, which contribute to the partition function. This in…
The "square root" of the Dirac operator derived on the superspace is used to construct supersymmetric field equations. In addition to the recently found solution - a vector supermultiplet I demonstrate how a chiral supermultiplet follows as the solution. Both vector and chiral supermultiplets are shown to obey appropriate (massless) equations of motion. This procedure yields thus a complete set of fields and their equations necessary to construct renormalizable supersymmetric theories. The problem of masses and interaction is also discussed.
We investigate for N = 3 supersymmetry (SUSY) in D = 2 the algebraic relation between the Volkov-Akulov (VA) model of nonlinear (NL) SUSY and a (renormalizable) SO(3) vector supermultiplet of linear (L) SUSY. We derive SUSY and SO(3) invariant relations between component fields of the vector supermultiplet and Nambu-Goldstone (NG) fermions of the VA model at leading orders by using three arbitrary dimensionless parameters which can be recasted as the vacuum expectation values of auxiliary fields in the vector supermultiplet. Two different irreducible representations of SO(3) super-Poincaré sym…
In three dimensions, it is known that field theories possessing extended $(p,q)$ anti-de Sitter (AdS) supersymmetry with ${\cal N}=p+q \geq 3$ can be realised in (2,0) AdS superspace. Here we present a formalism to reduce every field theory with (2,0) AdS supersymmetry to ${\cal N}=1$ AdS superspace. As nontrivial examples, we consider supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models formulated in terms of ${\cal N}=2$ chiral and linear supermultiplets. The $(2,0) \to (1,0)$ AdS reduction technique is then applied to the off-shell massless higher-spin supermultiplets in (2,0) AdS superspace constructed i…
We describe several families of primary linear supermultiplets coupled to three-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ conformal supergravity and use them to construct topological $BF$-type terms. We introduce conformal higher-spin gauge superfields and associate with them Chern-Simons-type actions that are constructed as an extension of the linearised action for ${\cal N}=2$ conformal supergravity. These actions possess gauge and super-Weyl invariance in any conformally flat superspace and involve a higher-spin generalisation of the linearised ${\cal N}=2$ super-Cotton tensor. For massless higher-spin supe…
We generalize the unconstrained description of free massless higher spin fields previously developed in [Nucl.Phys. B 779 (2007) 155] to the case of free massive higher spin fields in a flat space of arbitrary dimension. The Lagrangian is given in an easy-to-handle form for an arbitrary value of spin. It is local, free from higher derivative terms, and involves a minimal number of auxiliary fields needed for an unconstrained gauge invariant description of a free massive higher spin field in arbitrary dimension.
We consider polynomial deformations of Lie superalgebras and their representations. For the class A(n-1,0) ~ sl(n/1), we identify families of superalgebras of quadratic and cubic type, consistent with Jacobi identities. For such deformed superalgebras we point out the possibility of zero step supermultiplets, carried on a single, irreducible representation of the even (Lie) subalgebra. For the conformal group SU(2,2) in 1+3-dimensional spacetime, such irreducible (unitary) representations correspond to standard conformal fields (j_1,j_2;d), where (j_1,j_2) is the spin and d the conformal dimen…
Matter fields in the MSSM are chiral supermultiplets in fundamental (or singlet) representations of the standard model gauge group. In this paper we introduce chiral superfields in the adjoint representation of $SU(3)_C$ and study the effective field theory and phenomenology of them. These states are well motivated by intersecting D-brane models in which additional massless adjoint chiral supermultiplets appear generically in the low energy spectrum. Although it has been pointed out that the existence of these additional fields may make it difficult to obtain asymptotic freedom, we demonstrate…
An explicit form for the lagrangian of an arbitrary half-integer superspin ${\textsf{Y}}=s+1/2$ supermultiplet is obtained in $4{\rm D},~\mathcal{N}=1$ superspace. This is accomplished by the introduction of a tower of pairs of auxiliary superfields of increasing rank which are required to vanish on-shell for free theories. In the massless limit almost all auxiliary superfields decouple except one, which plays the role of compensator as required by the emergent gauge redundancy of the Lagrangian description of the massless theory. The number of off-shell degrees of freedom carried by the theor…
