Consider a compact manifold $M$ with smooth boundary $\partial M$. Suppose that $g$ and $\tilde{g}$ are two Riemannian metrics on $M$. We construct a family of metrics on $M$ which agrees with $g$ outside a neighborhood of $\partial M$ and agrees with $\tilde{g}$ in a neighborhood of $\partial M$. We prove that the family of metrics preserves various natural curvature conditions under suitable assumptions on the boundary data. Moreover, under suitable assumptions on the boundary data, we can deform a metric to one with totally geodesic boundary while preserving various natural curvature conditions.
For all complex dimensions n>=2, we construct complete Kaehler manifolds of bounded curvature and non-negative Ricci curvature whose Kaehler--Ricci evolutions immediately acquire Ricci curvature of mixed sign.
In this paper, we determine the partial positivity(resp., negativity) of the curvature of all irreducible Riemannian symmetric spaces. From the classifications of abstract root systems and maximal subsystems, we can give the calculations for symmetric spaces both in classical types and in exceptional types.
In this note, we introduce a new type of positivity condition for the curvature of a Hermitian manifold, which generalizes the notion of nonnegative quadratic orthogonal bisectional curvature to the non-Kähler case. We derive a Bochner formula for closed $(1, 1)$-forms from which this condition appears naturally and prove that if a Hermitian manifold satisfy our positivity condition, then any class $α\in H^{1, 1}_{BC}(X)$ can be represented by a closed $(1, 1)$-form which is parallel with respect to the Bismut connection. Lastly, we show that such a curvature positivity condition holds on cert…
In this paper, we show that every harmonic map from a compact Kähler manifold with uniformly RC-positive curvature to a Riemannian manifold with non-positive complex sectional curvature is constant. In particular, there is no non-constant harmonic map from a compact Kähler manifold with positive holomorphic sectional curvature to a Riemannian manifold with non-positive complex sectional curvature.
In this paper, energy function is used to investigate the eigen-solutions of $-Δu+ Vu=λu$ on the Riemannian manifolds. We give a new way to prove the positivity of the initial energy of energy function, which leads to a simple way to obtain the growth of eigen-solutions.
In this note we study a positivity notion for the curvature of the Bismut connection; more precisely, we study the notion of \emph{Bismut-Griffiths-positivity} for complex Hermitian non-Kähler manifolds. Since the Kähler-Ricci flow preserves and regularizes the usual Griffiths positivity we investigate the behaviour of the Bismut-Griffiths-positivity under the action of the Hermitian curvature flows. In particular we study two concrete classes of examples, namely, linear Hopf manifolds and six-dimensional Calabi-Yau solvmanifolds with holomorphically-trivial canonical bundle. From these exampl…
Kodaira embedding theorem provides an effective characterization of projectivity of a Kähler manifold in terms the second cohomology. Recently X. Yang [21] proved that any compact Kähler manifold with positive holomorphic sectional curvature must be projective. This gives a metric criterion of the projectivity in terms of its curvature. In this note, we prove that any compact Kähler manifold with positive 2nd scalar curvature (which is the average of holomorphic sectional curvature over 2-dimensional subspaces of the tangent space) must be projective. In view of generic 2-tori being non-abelia…
We examine algebraic conditions for the sectional positivity of the Riemann curvature operator. We describe sufficient conditions for dimension $n=4$, and complete characterization for a dense open subset of the space of operators in dimension $4$. We also briefly examine higher-dimentional curvature operators.
In this paper, we mainly study the scattering operators for the Poincaré-Einstein manifolds. Those operators give the fractional GJMS operators $P_{2γ}$ for the conformal infinity. If a Poincaré-Einstein manifolds $(X^{n+1}, g_+)$ is locally conformally flat and there exists an representative $g$ for the conformal infinity $(M, [g])$ such that the scalar curvature $R$ is a positive constant and $Q_4>0$, then we prove that $P_{2γ}$ is positive for $γ\in (1,2)$ and thus the first real scattering pole is less than $\frac{n}{2}-2$.
We study the positivity properties of the curvature operator for holomorphic Hermitian vector bundles. We obtain new characterization of semi-positive curvature operators for $(n,q)$ and $(p,n)$-forms by L2-estimates. The characterization of Nakano semi-positivity by $L^2$-estimate is already known. Applying our results, we give new characterizations of Nakano semi-negativity.
This paper presents an investigation of the relation between some positivity of the curvature and the finiteness of fundamental groups in semi-Riemannian geometry. We consider semi-Riemannian submersions $π: (E, g) \rightarrow (B, -g_{B}) $ under the condition with $(B, g_{B})$ Riemannian, the fiber closed Riemannian, and the horizontal distribution integrable. Then we prove that, if the lightlike geodesically complete or timelike geodesically complete semi-Riemannian manifold $E$ has some positivity of curvature, then the fundamental group of the fiber is finite. Moreover we construct an exam…
We study different notions of Riemannian curvatures: The $p$-curvatures which interpolate between the scalar curvature and the sectional curvature, the Gauss-Bonnet-Weyl curvatures form another interpolation from the scalar curvature to the Gauss-Bonnet integrand. We bring out the $(p,q)$-curvatures, which incorporate all the previous curvatures. We then examine the curvature term which appears in the classical Weitzenböck formula. We also study the positivity properties of the $p$-curvatures, the second Gauss-Bonnet-Weyl curvature, the Einstein curvature and the isotropic curvature.
We study a positivity condition for the curvature of oriented Riemannian 4-manifolds: The half-$PIC$ condition. It is a slight weakening of the positive isotropic curvature ($PIC$) condition introduced by M. Micallef and J. Moore. We observe that the half-$PIC$ condition is preserved by the Ricci flow and satisfies a maximality property among all Ricci flow invariant positivity conditions on the curvature of oriented 4-manifolds. We also study some geometric and topological aspects of half-$PIC$ manifolds.
We show that if a compact complex manifold admits a Kähler metric whose holomorphic sectional curvature is everywhere non positive and strictly negative in at least one point, then its canonical bundle is positive.
We prove that a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $m \geq 3$ with harmonic curvature and $\lfloor\frac{m-1}{2}\rfloor$-positive curvature operator has constant sectional curvature, extending the classical Tachibana theorem for manifolds with positive curvature operator. The condition of $\lfloor\frac{m-1}{2}\rfloor$-positivity originates from recent work of Petersen and Wink, who proved a similar Tachibana-type theorem under the stronger condition that the manifold be Einstein. We show that the same rigidity property holds for complete manifolds assuming either parabolicity, an integral…
The purpose of this paper is to prove that the Hermitian Curvature Flow (HCF) on an Hermitian manifold $(M,g,J)$ preserves many natural curvature positivity conditions. Following Wilking, for an $Ad\,{GL(T^{1,0}M)}$-invariant subset $S\subset End(T^{1,0}M)$ and a ncie function $F\colon End(T^{1,0}M)\to\mathbb R$ we construct a convex set of curvature operators $C(S,F)$, which is invariant under the HCF. Varying $S$ and $F$, we prove that the HCF preserves Griffiths positivity, Dual-Nakano positivity, positivity of holomorphic orthogonal bisectional curvature, lower bounds on the second scalar …
In this article, we investigate the geometry of a central extension $\widehat{\mathcal D}_μ(S^{2})$ of the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms of the 2-sphere equipped with the $L^{2}$-metric, whose geodesics correspond solutions of the incompressible Euler equation with Coriolis force. In particular, we calculate the Misiolek curvature of this group. This value is related to the existence of a conjugate point and its positivity directly implies the positivity of the sectional curvature.
We show that closed manifolds supporting a nonpositively curved metric with negative $([\frac{n}{4}]+1)$-Ricci curvature, have positive simplicial volume. This answers a special case of a conjecture of Gromov.
We give a characterization of Nakano positivity of Riemannian flat vector bundles over bounded domains $D\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ in terms of solvability of the $d$ equation with certain good $L^2$ estimate condition. As an application, we give an alternative proof of the matrix-valued Prekopa's theorem that is originally proved by Raufi. Our methods are inspired by the recent works of Deng-Ning-Wang-Zhou on characterization of Nakano positivity of Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles and positivity of direct image sheaves associated to holomorphic fibrations.
First we confirm a conjecture asserting that any compact Kähler manifold $N$ with $\Ric^\perp>0$ must be simply-connected by applying a new viscosity consideration to Whitney's comass of $(p, 0)$-forms. Secondly we prove the projectivity and the rational connectedness of a Kähler manifold of complex dimension $n$ under the condition $\Ric_k>0$ (for some $k\in \{1, \cdots, n\}$, with $\Ric_n$ being the Ricci curvature), generalizing a well-known result of Campana, and independently of Kollár-Miyaoka-Mori, for the Fano manifolds. The proof utilizes both the above comass consideration and a secon…
Let $X$ be a ruled surface over a curve of genus $g$. We prove that $X$ has a scalar-flat Hermitian metric if and only if $g\geq 2$ and $m(X)>2-2g$ where $m(X)$ is an intrinsic number depends on the complex structure of $X$.
A closed CR 3-manifold is said to have $C_{0}$-positive pseudohermitian curvature if $(W+C_{0}Tor)(X,X)>0$ for any $0\neq X\in T_{1,0}(M)$. We discover an obstruction for a closed CR 3-manifold to possess $C_{0}$-positive pseudohermitian curvature. We classify closed three-dimensional CR Yamabe solitons according to $C_{0}$-positivity and $C_{0}$-negativity whenever $C_{0}=1$ and the potential function lies in the kernel of Paneitz operator. Moreover, we show that any closed three-dimensional CR torsion soliton must be the standard Sasakian space form. At last, we discuss the persistence of $C…
We prove that the invariant part, with respect to a compact group action satisfying certain condition, of the direct image of a Nakano positive Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle over a bounded pseudoconvex domain is Nakano positive. We also consider the action of the noncompact group $\mathbb{R}^m$ and get the same result for a family of tube domains, which leads to a new method to the matrix-valued Prekopa's theorem originally proved by Raufi. The two main ingredients in our method are Hörmander's $L^2$ theory of $\bar\partial$ and the recent work of Deng-Ning-Zhang-Zhou on characterization…
For a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ over a Hermitian manifold $M$ there are two important notions of curvature positivity, the Griffiths positivity and Nakano positivity. We study the consequence of these positivities and the relevant estimates. If $E$ is Griffiths negative over Kähler manifold, then there is a Kähler metric on its total space $E$, and we calculate the curvature and prove the non-positivity of the curvature along the tautological direction. The Nakano positivity can be formulated as a positivity for the Nakano curvature operator and we give estimate the Nakano curvature operat…
We use an idea of Wang and Yau to give a new definition of quasi-local mass for a topological sphere in an initial date set. The new definition modifies Brown-York's definition by using certain spinor norm as lapse function. And it requires mean curvature of the topological sphere satisfies apparent horizon conditions, the topological sphere can be isometrically into Euclidean 3-space and mean curvature of the initial date set does not change sign. The positivity holds if we further assume the image of the topological sphere in Euclidean 3-space has nonnegative mean curvature.
In a previous article (arXiv:2111.03143), we generalized Berndtsson's Nakano-positivity by retaining the same consequences under weaker hypotheses. In this article, we propose to further generalize our "twisted" Nakano-positivity theorem to fields of Hilbert spaces associated to possibly unbounded Stein manifolds. We achieve this result using exhaustion arguments. As direct applications, we prove $\log$-plurisubharmonic variation results for a certain class of non-trivial families of Stein manifolds.
The Witten spinorial argument has been adapted in several works over the years to prove positivity of mass in the asymptotically AdS and asymptotically hyperbolic settings in arbitrary dimensions. In this paper we prove a scalar curvature rigidity result and a positive mass theorem for asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds that do not require a spin assumption. The positive mass theorem is reduced to the rigidity case by a deformation construction near the conformal boundary. The proof of the rigidity result is based on a study of minimizers of the BPS brane action.
We provide explicit examples which show that mean convexity (i.e. positivity of the mean curvature) and positivity of the scalar curvature are non-preserved curvature conditions for hypersurfaces of the Euclidean space evolving under either the volume- or the area preserving mean curvature flow. The relevance of our examples is that they disprove some statements of the previous literature, overshadow a widespread folklore conjecture about the behaviour of these flows and bring out the discouraging news that a traditional singularity analysis is not possible for constrained versions of the mean…
Let $(M,g)$ be a Riemannian $n$-manifold, we denote by $\Ric$ and $\Scal$ the Ricci and the scalar curvatures of $g$. For scalars $k<n$, the modified Einstein tensors denoted $\Eink$ are defined as $\Eink :=\Scal \, g -k\Ric$. Note that the usual Einstein tensor coincides with the half of $\Eint$ and ${\rm Ein}_0=\Scal.g$. It turns out that all these new modified tensors, for $0<k<n$, are still gradients of the total scalar curvature functional but with respect to modified integral scalar products. In this paper we study the positivity properties of these tensors that generalize the positivity…
We prove a sharp lower bound for the Tanaka-Webster holomorphic sectional curvature of strictly pseudoconvex real hypersurfaces that are "semi-isometrically" immersed in a Kähler manifold of nonnegative holomorphic sectional curvature under an appropriate convexity condition. This gives a partial answer to a question posed by Chanillo, Chiu, and Yang regarding the positivity of the Tanaka-Webster scalar curvature of the boundary of a strictly convex domain in $\mathbb{C}^2$ from 2012. In fact, the main result proves a stronger positivity property, namely the $\frac12$-positivity in the sense o…
In this work, we show that along a particular choice of Hermitian curvature flow, the non-positivity of Chern-Ricci curvature will be preserved if the initial metric has non-positive bisectional curvature. As an application, we show that the canonical line bundle of a compact Hermitian manifold with nonpositive bisectional curvature and quasi-negative Chern-Ricci curvature is ample.
We establish a new version of the CR almost Schur Lemma which gives an estimation of the pseudohermitian scalar curvature on a compact strictly pseudoconvex pseudohermitian manifold to be a constant in terms of the norm of the traceless Webster Ricci tensor and the pseudohermitian torsion under a certain positivity condition. In the torsion-free case, i.e. for a compact Sasakian manifold, our positivity condition coincides with the known one and we obtain a better estimate
Let $M$ be a complex manifold and $L$ an oriented real line bundle on M equipped with a flat connection. An LCK ("locally conformally Kahler") form is a closed, positive (1,1)-form taking values in L, and an LCK manifold is one which admits an LCK form. Locally, any LCK form is expressed as an L-valued pluri-Laplacian of a function called LCK potential. We consider a manifold $M$ with an LCK form admitting a global LCK potential, and prove that M admits a global, positive LCK potential. Then M admits a holomorphic embedding to a Hopf manifold.
We show any Riemannian curvature model can be geometrically realized by a manifold with constant scalar curvature. We also show that any pseudo-Hermitian curvature model, para-Hermitian curvature model, hyper-pseudo-Hermitian curvature model, or hyper-para-Hermitian curvature model can be realized by a manifold with constant scalar and *-scalar curvature.
In this paper two metric properties on geodesic length spaces are introduced by means of the metric projection, studying their validity on Alexandrov and Busemann NPC spaces. In particular, we prove that both properties characterize the non-positivity of the sectional curvature on Riemannian manifolds. Further results are also established on reversible/non-reversible Finsler-Minkowski spaces.

In this note, we prove that for a complete noncompact three dimensional Riemannian manifold with bounded sectional curvature, if it has uniformly positive scalar curvature, then there is a uniform lower bound on the injectivity radius.
We establish variational formulas for Ricci upper and lower bounds, as well as a derivative formula for the Ricci curvature. As applications, constant curvature manifolds, Einstein manifolds and Ricci parallel manifolds are identified, respectively, with different integral-differential formulas and semigroup inequalities. Moreover, by using derivative and Hessian formulas for the heat semigroup $P_t$ developed from stochastic analysis, explicit Hessian estimates are derived on Einstein and Ricci parallel manifolds.
