We review recent developments of slow/fast stochastic differential equations, and also present a new result on
Diffusion Homogenisation Theory with fractional and non-strong-mixing noise and providing new examples.
The emphasise of the review will be on the recently developed effective dynamic theory for two scale random systems with fractional noise: Stochastic Averaging and `Rough Diffusion Homogenisation Theory'. We also study the geometric models with perturbations to symmetries.
With recently developed tools, we prove a homogenisation theorem for a random ODE with short and long-range dependent fractional noise. The effective dynamics are not necessarily diffusions, they are given by stochastic differential equations driven simultaneously by stochastic processes from both the Gaussian and the non-Gaussian self-similarity universality classes. A key lemma for this is the `lifted' joint functional central and non-central limit theorem in the rough path topology.
We aim to generalize the homogenisation theorem in \cite{Gehringer-Li-tagged} for a passive tracer interacting with a fractional Gaußian noise to also cover fractional non-Gaußian noises. To do so we analyse limit theorems for normalized functionals of Hermite-Volterra processes, extending the result in \cite{Diu-Tran} to power series with fast decaying coefficients. We obtain either convergence to a Wiener process, in the short-range dependent case, or to a Hermite process, in the long-range dependent case. Furthermore, we prove convergence in the multivariate case with both, short and long-r…
We provide in this work a tool-kit for the study of homogenisation of random ordinary differential equations, under the form of a friendly-user black box based on the tehcnology of rough flows. We illustrate the use of this setting on the example of stochastic turbulence.
In this work we study rough differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H>1/4 and establish Varadhan's small time estimates for the density of solutions of such equations under Hormander's type conditions.
Starting from the construction of a geometric rough path associated with a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in]{1/4}, {1/2}[$ given by Coutin and Qian (2002), we prove a large deviation principle in the space of geometric rough paths, extending classical results on Gaussian processes. As a by-product, geometric rough paths associated to elements of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space of the fractional Brownian motion are obtained and an explicit integral representation is given.
In this work we study the smoothing effect of rough differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with parameter $H>1/4$. The regularization estimates we obtain generalize to the fractional Brownian motion previous results by Kusuoka and Stroock and can be seen as a quantitative version of the existence of smooth densities under Hörmander's type conditions.
We consider the stochastic continuity equation perturbed by a fractional Brownian motion and the drift is allowed to be discontinuous. We show that for almost all paths of the fractional Brownian motion there exists a solution to the equation.
We consider a geometric rough path associated with a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in]{1/4}, {1/2}[$. We give an approximation result in a modulus type distance, up to the second order, by means of a sequence of rough paths lying above elements of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space.
We survey existing results concerning the study in small times of the density of the solution of a rough differential equation driven by fractional Brownian motions. We also slightly improve existing results and discuss some possible applications to mathematical finance.
We construct in this article a rough path over fractional Brownian motion with arbitrary Hurst index by (i) using the Fourier normal ordering algorithm introduced in \cite{Unt-Holder} to reduce the problem to that of regularizing tree iterated integrals and (ii) applying the Bogolioubov-Parasiuk-Hepp-Zimmermann (BPHZ) renormalization algorithm to Feynman diagrams representing tree iterated integrals.
Based on the recent development of the framework of Volterra rough paths, we consider here the probabilistic construction of the Volterra rough path associated to the fractional Brownian motion with $H>\frac{1}{2}$ and for the standard Brownian motion. The Volterra kernel $k(t,s)$ is allowed to be singular, and behaving similar to $|t-s|^{-γ}$ for some $γ\geq 0$. The construction is done in both the Stratonovich and Itô sense. It is based on a modified Garsia-Rodemich-Romsey lemma which has an interest in its own right, as well as tools from Malliavin calculus. A discussion of challenges and p…
We go ahead with the study initiated in [3] about a heat-equation model with non-linear perturbation driven by a space-time fractional noise. Using general results from Hairer's theory of regularity structures, the analysis reduces to the construction of a so-called K-rough path (above the noise), a notion we introduce here as a compromise between regularity structures formalism and rough paths theory. The exhibition of such a K-rough path at order three allows us to cover the whole roughness domain that extends up to the standard space-time white noise situation. We also provide a representat…
We construct a $K$-rough path above either a space-time or a spatial fractional Brownian motion, in any space dimension $d$. This allows us to provide an interpretation and a unique solution for the corresponding parabolic Anderson model, understood in the renormalized sense. We also consider the case of a spatial fractional noise.
We consider a rough differential equation indexed by a small parameter $\varepsilon>0$. When the rough differential equation is driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H$ ($1/4<H<1/2$), we prove the Laplace-type asymptotics for the solution as the parameter $\varepsilon$ tends to zero.
This paper studies the stochastic heat equation driven by time fractional Gaussian noise with Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1/2)$. We establish the Feynman-Kac representation of the solution and use this representation to obtain matching lower and upper bounds for the $L^p(Ω)$ moments of the solution.
We consider the continuous parabolic Anderson model with the Gaussian fields under the measure-valued initial conditions, the covariances of which are nonhomogeneous in time and fractional rough in space. We mainly study the spatial behaviors for the Feynman-Kac formulas in Stratonovich's sense. Benefited from the application of Feynman-Kac formula based on Brownian bridge, the precise spatial asymptotics can be obtained in the broader conditions than before.
In this work we study fractal properties of rough differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter $H>\frac{1}{4}$. In particular, we show that the Hausdorff dimension of the sample paths of the solution is $\min\{d,\frac{1}{H}\}$ and that the Hausdorff dimension of the level set $L_x=\{ t\in[ε,1]: X_t=x\}$ is $1-dH$ with positive probability when $d<\frac{1}{H}$
We study a stochastic differential equation in the sense of rough path theory driven by fractional Brownian rough path with Hurst parameter H (1/3 < H <= 1/2) under the ellipticity assumption at the starting point. In such a case, the law of the solution at a fixed time has a kernel, i.e., a density function with respect to Lebesgue measure. In this paper we prove a short time off-diagonal asymptotic expansion of the kernel under mild additional assumptions. Our main tool is Watanabe's distributional Malliavin calculus.
This note is devoted to construct a rough path above a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion $B$ with any Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$, by means of its representation as a Volterra Gaussian process. This approach yields some algebraic and computational simplifications with respect to [Stochastic Process. Appl. 120 (2010) 1444--1472], where the construction of a rough path over $B$ was first introduced.
In this article, we consider fractional stochastic wave equations on $\mathbb R$ driven by a multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white/colored in time and has the covariance of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac14, \frac12)$ in space. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the mild Skorohod solution, establish lower and upper bounds for the $p$-th moment of the solution for all $p\ge2$, and obtain the Hölder continuity in time and space variables for the solution.
We consider two related linear PDE's perturbed by a fractional Brownian motion. We allow the drift to be discontinuous, in which case the corresponding deterministic equation is ill-posed. However, the noise will be shown to have a regularizing effect on the equations in the sense that we can prove existence of solutions for almost all paths of the fractional Brownian motion.
We investigate the optimal Hölder continuity and hitting probabilities for systems of stochastic heat equations and stochastic wave equations driven by an additive fractional Brownian sheet with temporal index $1/2$ and spatial index $H\le1/2$. Using stochastic calculus for fractional Brownian motion, we prove that these systems are well-posed and the solutions are Hölder continuous. Furthermore, the optimal Hölder exponents are obtained, which is the first result, as far as we knew, on the optimal Hölder continuity of SHEs and SWEs driven by fractional Brownian sheet that is rough in space. B…
We consider anticipative Stratonovich stochastic differential equations driven by some stochastic process (not necessarily a semi-martingale). No adaptedness of initial point or vector fields is assumed. Under a simple condition on the stochastic process, we show that the unique solution of the above SDE understood in the rough path sense is actually a Stratonovich solution. This condition is satisfied by the Brownian motion and the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4. As application, we obtain rather flexible results such as support theorems, large deviation princ…
In this article, we consider the following stochastic fractional diffusion equation \begin{equation*} \left(\partial^β+\dfracν{2}\left(-Δ\right)^{α/ 2}\right) u(t, x)= λ\: I_{0_+}^γ\left[u(t, x) \dot{W}(t, x)\right] ,\quad t>0,\: x \in \mathbb{R}, \end{equation*} where $α>0$, $β\in(0,2]$, $γ\ge 0$, $λ\neq0$, $ν>0$, and $\dot{W}$ is a Gaussian noise which is white or fractional in time and rough in space. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution in the Itô-Skorohod sense and obtain the lower and upper bounds for the $p$-th moment. The Hölder regularity of the solution is also studi…
We study a full discretization scheme for the stochastic linear heat equation \begin{equation*}\begin{cases}\partial_t \langleΨ\rangle = Δ\langleΨ\rangle +\dot{B}\, , \quad t\in [0,1], \ x\in \mathbb{R},\\ \langleΨ\rangle_0=0\, ,\end{cases}\end{equation*} when $\dot{B}$ is a very \emph{rough space-time fractional noise}. The discretization procedure is divised into three steps: $(i)$ regularization of the noise through a mollifying-type approach; $(ii)$ discretization of the (smoothened) noise as a finite sum of Gaussian variables over rectangles in $[0,1]\times \mathbb{R}$; $(iii)$ discretiza…
Fourier normal ordering \cite{Unt09bis} is a new algorithm to construct explicit rough paths over arbitrary Hölder-continuous multidimensional paths. We apply in this article the Fourier normal ordering ordering algorithm to the construction of an explicit rough path over multi-dimensional fractional Brownian motion $B$ with arbitrary Hurst index $α$ (in particular, for $α\le 1/4$, which was till now an open problem) by regularizing the iterated integrals of the analytic approximation of $B$ defined in \cite{Unt08}. The regularization procedure is applied to 'Fourier normal ordered' iterated i…
In this article, we consider the so-called modified Euler scheme for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by fractional Brownian motions (fBm) with Hurst parameter $\frac13<H<\frac12$. This is a first-order time-discrete numerical approximation scheme, and has been recently introduced by Hu, Liu and Nualart in order to generalize the classical Euler scheme for Itô SDEs to the case $H>\frac12$. The current contribution generalizes the modified Euler scheme to the rough case $\frac13<H<\frac12$. Namely, we show a convergence rate of order $n^{\frac12-2H}$ for the scheme, and we argue …
In this paper we derive a Bismut-Elworthy-Li type formula with respect to strong solutions to singular stochastic differential equations (SDE's) with additive noise given by a multi-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H<1/2$. "Singular" here means that the drift vector field of such equations is allowed to be merely bounded and integrable. As an application we use this representation formula for the study of price sensitivities of financial claims based on a stock price model with stochastic volatility, whose dynamics is described by means of fractional Brownian motion…
We investigate the problem of the rate of convergence to equilibrium for ergodic stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in (1/3,1)$ and multiplicative noise component $σ$. When $σ$ is constant and for every $H\in (0,1)$, it was proved in [19] that, under some mean-reverting assumptions, such a process converges to its equilibrium at a rate of order $t^{-α}$ where $α\in (0,1)$ (depending on $H$). In [11], this result has been extended to the multiplicative case when $H\textgreater{}1/2$. In this paper, we obtain these types of results in t…
In this note, we consider the parabolic Anderson model on $\mathbb{R}_{+} \times \mathbb{R}$, driven by a Gaussian noise which is fractional in time with index $H_0>1/2$ and fractional in space with index $0<H<1/2$ such that $H_0+H>3/4$. Under a general condition on the initial data, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution and obtain its exponential upper bounds in time for all $p$-th moments with $p\ge 2$.
Under the key assumption of finite ρ-variation, ρ\in[1,2), of the covariance of the underlying Gaussian process, sharp a.s. convergence rates for approximations of Gaussian rough paths are established. When applied to Brownian resp. fractional Brownian motion (fBM), ρ=1 resp. ρ=1/(2H), we recover and extend the respective results of [Hu--Nualart; Rough path analysis via fractional calculus; TAMS 361 (2009) 2689-2718] and [Deya--Neuenkirch--Tindel; A Milstein-type scheme without Lévy area terms for SDEs driven by fractional Brownian motion; AIHP (2011)]. In particular, we establish an a.s. rate…
Fractional Brownian motion with the Hurst parameter $H<\frac{1}{2}$ is used widely, for instance, to describe a 'rough' stochastic volatility process in finance. In this paper, we examine an Ait-Sahalia-type interest rate model driven by a fractional Brownian motion with $H<\frac{1}{2}$ and establish theoretical properties such as an existence-and-uniqueness theorem, regularity in the sense of Malliavin differentiability and higher moments of the strong solutions.
In this paper, we consider a complex-valued d-dimensional fractional Brownian motion defined on the closure of the complex upper half-plane, called analytic fractional Brownian motion. This process has been introduced by the second author of the article, and both its real and imaginary parts, restricted on the real axis, are usual fractional Brownian motions. The current note is devoted to prove that a rough path based on the analytic fBm can be constructed for any value of the Hurst parameter in (0,1/2). This allows in particular to solve differential equations driven by this process in a nei…
This article is concerned with stochastic differential equations driven by a $d$ dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H>1/4$, understood in the rough paths sense. Whenever the coefficients of the equation satisfy a uniform hypoellipticity condition, we establish a sharp local estimate on the associated control distance function and a sharp local lower estimate on the density of the solution. Our methodology relies heavily on the rough paths structure of the equation.

We study a rough differential equation driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H$ $(1/4<H \le 1/2)$. Under Hörmander's condition on the coefficient vector fields, the solution has a smooth density for each fixed time. Using Watanabe's distributional Malliavin calculus, we obtain a short time full asymptotic expansion of the density under quite natural assumptions. Our main result can be regarded as a "fractional version" of Ben Arous' famous work on the off-diagonal asymptotics.
We consider a system of differential equations in a fast long range dependent random environment and prove a homogenization theorem involving multiple scaling constants. The effective dynamics solves a rough differential equation, which is `equivalent' to a stochastic equation driven by mixed Itô integrals and Young integrals with respect to Wiener processes and Hermite processes. Lacking other tools we use the rough path theory for proving the convergence, our main technical endeavour is on obtaining an enhanced scaling limit theorem for path integrals (Functional CLT and non-CLT's) in a stro…
We use the formalism of Hairer's regularity structures theory \cite{hai-14} to study a heat equation with non-linear perturbation driven by a space-time fractional noise. Different regimes are observed, depending on the global pathwise roughness of the noise. To this end, and following the procedure exhibited in \cite{hai-14}, the equation is first "lifted" into some abstract "regularity structure" and therein solved through a fixed-point argument. Then we construct a consistent "model" above the fractional noise, by relying on a smooth Fourier-type approximation of the process.
This paper is devoted to studying the averaging principle for fast-slow system of rough differential equations driven by mixed fractional Brownian rough path. The fast component is driven by Brownian motion, while the slow component is driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H ~(1/3 < H\leq 1/2)$. Combining the fractional calculus approach to rough path theory and Khasminskii's classical time discretization method, we prove that the slow component strongly converges to the solution of the corresponding averaged equation in the $L^1$-sense. The averaging principle for a fast-slow…
We highlight a fundamental ill-posedness issue for nonlinear stochastic wave equations driven by a fractional noise. Namely, if the noise becomes too rough (i.e., the sum of its Hurst indexes becomes too small), then there is essentially no hope to provide an interpretation of the model, whether directly or through a Wick-type renormalization procedure. This phenomenon can be compared with the situation of a general SDE driven by a two-dimensional fractional noise of index $H\leq \frac{1}{4}$. Our results clarify and extend previous similar properties exhibited in [3] or in [14].
Rough volatility models are becoming increasingly popular in quantitative finance. In this framework, one considers that the behavior of the log-volatility process of a financial asset is close to that of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter around 0.1. Motivated by this, we wish to define a natural and relevant limit for the fractional Brownian motion when $H$ goes to zero. We show that once properly normalized, the fractional Brownian motion converges to a Gaussian random distribution which is very close to a log-correlated random field.
In this paper, we study two variations of the time discrete Taylor schemes for rough differential equations and for stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motions. One is the incomplete Taylor scheme which excludes some terms of an Taylor scheme in its recursive computation so as to reduce the computation time. The other one is to add some deterministic terms to an incomplete Taylor scheme to improve the mean rate of convergence. Almost sure rate of convergence and $L_p$-rate of convergence are obtained for the incomplete Taylor schemes. Almost sure rate is expressed i…
Let $B=(B_1(t),..,B_d(t))$ be a $d$-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $α\le 1/4$, or more generally a Gaussian process whose paths have the same local regularity. Defining properly iterated integrals of $B$ is a difficult task because of the low Hölder regularity index of its paths. Yet rough path theory shows it is the key to the construction of a stochastic calculus with respect to $B$, or to solving differential equations driven by $B$. We intend to show in a forthcoming series of papers how to desingularize iterated integrals by a weak singular non-Gaussian perturbati…
As a general rule, differential equations driven by a multi-dimensional irregular path $Γ$ are solved by constructing a rough path over $Γ$. The domain of definition ? and also estimates ? of the solutions depend on upper bounds for the rough path; these general, deterministic estimates are too crude to apply e.g. to the solutions of stochastic differential equations with linear coefficients driven by a Gaussian process with Hölder regularity $α< 1/2$. We prove here (by showing convergence of Chen's series) that linear stochastic differential equations driven by analytic fractional Brownian mo…

The main tool for stochastic calculus with respect to a multidimensional process $B$ with small Hölder regularity index is rough path theory. Once $B$ has been lifted to a rough path, a stochastic calculus -- as well as solutions to stochastic differential equations driven by $B$ -- follow by standard arguments. Although such a lift has been proved to exist by abstract arguments \cite{LyoVic07}, a first general, explicit construction has been proposed in \cite{Unt09,Unt09bis} under the name of Fourier normal ordering. The purpose of this short note is to convey the main ideas of the Fourier no…
