In this paper we show the existence of an action of Chow correspondences on the cohomology of reciprocity sheaves. In order to do so, we prove a number of structural results, such as a projective bundle formula, a blow-up formula, a Gysin sequence, and the existence of proper pushforward. In this way we recover and generalize analogous statements for the cohomology of Hodge sheaves and Hodge-Witt sheaves.
We give several applications of the general theory to problems which have been classically studied. Among these applications, we construct new birational invariants of smooth projective varieties and obstructions to the existence of zero-cycles of degree one from the cohomology of reciprocity sheaves.
We exhibit an intimate relationship between "reciprocity sheaves" from arXiv:1402.4201 [math.AG] and "modulus sheaves with transfers" from arXiv:1908.02975 [math.AG] and arXiv:1910.14534 [math.AG].
We give a new geometric characterization of the motivic ramification filtration of reciprocity sheaves, by imitating a method used by Abbes and (Takeshi) Saito to study the ramification of torsors under finite étale groups. This new characterization is used to define characteristic forms for reciprocity sheaves. We obtain applications on pseudo-rational singularities and on questions regarding the representability of certain cohomology groups of reciprocity sheaves in the triangulated category of motives with modulus introduced by Kahn-Miyazaki-Saito-Yamazaki.
These are the notes accompanying three lectures given by the second author at the Motivic Geometry program at CAS, which aim to give an introduction and an overview of some recent developments in the field of reciprocity sheaves.
We connect two developments aiming at extending Voevodsky's theory of motives over a field in such a way to encompass non-$\mathbf{A}^1$-invariant phenomina. One is theory of reciprocity sheaves introduced by Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki. Another is theory of the triangulated category $\operatorname{\mathbf{logDM}}^{\operatorname{eff}}$ of logarithmic motives launched by Binda, Park and Østvær. We prove that the Nisnevich cohomology of reciprocity sheaves is representable in $\operatorname{\mathbf{logDM}}^{\operatorname{eff}}$.
The purpose of this paper is to prove a conjecture on reciprocity sheaves by Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki. This is accomplished by extending Voevodsky's fundamental results on homotopy invariant (pre)sheaves with transfers to its generalizations, reciprocity sheaves and cube-invariant sheaves in the context of theory of modulus (pre)sheave with transfers. The main results of this paper is expected to play a crucial role in deducing the main properties of the triangulated category of motives with modulus, which is a new triangulated category enlarging Voevodsky's triangulated category of motives to enco…
We prove a Zariski-Nagata purity theorem for the motivic ramification filtration of a reciprocity sheaf. An important tool in the proof is a generalization of the Kato-Saito reciprocity map from geometric global class field theory to all reciprocity sheaves. As a corollary we obtain cut-by-curves and cut-by-surfaces criteria for various ramification filtrations. In some cases this reproves known theorems, in some cases we obtain new results.
We give a description of the tensor product of SC-reciprocity presheaves with transfers in terms of $K$-group of geometric type, and we study a structure of the tensor product of $\mathbb{G}_a$ and $\mathbb{G}_a$. We apply our description to give a description of Chow group of 0-cycles with modulus of products of curves. We also show that the tensor product of $\mathbb{G}_a$ and $\mathbb{G}_m$ is isomorphic to the sheaf $Ω^1$ of Kähler differential forms as reciprocity sheaves over characteristic zero.
We prove cancellation theorems for reciprocity sheaves and cube-invariant modulus sheaves with transfers of Kahn--Saito--Yamazaki, generalizing Voevodsky's cancellation theorem for $\mathbf{A}^1$-invariant sheaves with transfers. As an application, we get some new formulas for internal hom's of the sheaves $Ω^i$ of absolute Kähler differentials.
We start developing a notion of reciprocity sheaves, generalizing Voevodsky's homotopy invariant presheaves with transfers which were used in the construction of his triangulated categories of motives. We hope reciprocity sheaves will eventually lead to the definition of a larger triangulated category of motivic nature, encompassing non homotopy invariant phenomena.
We study multilinear symbols on fields taking values in reciprocity sheaves. We prove that any such symbol satisfying natural axioms automatically has Steinberg-type relations, which is a manifestation of the geometry of modulus pairs lying behind.
The notion of modulus is a striking feature of Rosenlicht-Serre's theory of generalized Jacobian varieties of curves. It was carried over to algebraic cycles on general varieties by Bloch-Esnault, Park, Rülling, Krishna-Levine. Recently, Kerz-Saito introduced a notion of Chow group of $0$-cycles with modulus in connection with geometric class field theory with wild ramification for varieties over finite fields. We study the non-homotopy invariant part of the Chow group of $0$-cycles with modulus and show their torsion and divisibility properties. Modulus is being brought to sheaf theory by Kah…
We explain a method for calculating the cohomology of line bundles on a toric variety in terms of the cohomology of certain constructible sheaves on the polytope. We show its effective use by means of some examples.
In this article, we construct Chern classes in rational Deligne cohomology for coherent sheaves on a smooth complex compact manifold. We prove that these classes verify the functoriality property under pullbacks, the Whitney formula and the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem for projective morphisms between smooth complex compact manifolds.
We define a motivic conductor for any presheaf with transfers $F$ using the categorical framework developed for the theory of motives with modulus by Kahn-Miyazaki-Saito-Yamazaki. If $F$ is a reciprocity sheaf this conductor yields an increasing and exhaustive filtration on $F(L)$, where $L$ is any henselian discrete valuation field of geometric type over the perfect ground field. We show if $F$ is a smooth group scheme, then the motivic conductor extends the Rosenlicht-Serre conductor; if $F$ assigns to $X$ the group of finite characters on the abelianized étale fundamental group of $X$, then…
In this work we introduce reciprocity functors, construct the associated K-group of a family of reciprocity functors, which itself is a reciprocity functor, and compute it in several different cases. It may be seen as a first attempt to get close to the notion of reciprocity sheaves imagined by B. Kahn. Commutative algebraic groups, homotopy invariant Nisnevich sheaves with transfers, cycle modules or Kähler differentials are examples of reciprocity functors. As commutative algebraic groups do, reciprocity functors are equipped with symbols and satisfy a reciprocity law for curves.
We explore the structure of the cohomology ring of the moduli space of stable 1-dimensional sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$ of any degree. We obtain a minimal set of tautological generators, which implies an optimal generation result for both the cohomology and the Chow ring of the moduli space. Our approach is through a geometric study of tautological relations.
It is shown that for a perverse sheaf $K$ on an abelian variety $X$ the integers $i$ for which the cohomology $H^i(X,K)$ does not vanish define an interval in the number line (under certain conditions on the field of definition of $K$)
We construct a functorial decomposition of de Rham cohomology sheaves, called weight decomposition, for smooth analytic spaces over non-Archimedean fields embeddable into $\mathbf{C}_p$, which generalizes a construction of Berkovich and solves a question raised by him. We then investigate complexes of real tropical differential forms and currents introduced by Chambert-Loir and Ducros, by establishing a relation with the weight decomposition and defining tropical cycle maps with values in the corresponding Dolbeault cohomology. As an application, we show that algebraic cycles that are cohomolo…
We give a new interpretation of Kozsul cohomology, which is equivalent under the Bridgeland-King-Reid equivalence to Voisin's Hilbert scheme interpretation in dimensions 1 and 2, but is different in higher dimensions. As an application, we prove that the dimension $K_{p,q}(B,L)$ is a polynomial in $d$ for $L=dA+P$ with $A$ ample and $d$ large enough.
It was proved by Ginzburg and Mirkovic-Vilonen that the $G(O)$-equivariant perverse sheaves on the affine grassmannian of a connected reductive group $G$ form a tensor category equivalent to the tensor category of finite dimensional representations of the dual group $G^\vee$. The proof use the Tannakian formalism. The purpose of this paper is to construct explicitely the action of $G^\vee$ on the global cohomology of a perverse sheaf.
We find the sharp bounds on $h^0(F)$ for one-dimensional semistable sheaves $F$ on a projective variety $X$ by using the spectrum of semistable sheaves. The result generalizes the Clifford theorem. When $X$ is the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$, we study the stratification of the moduli space by the spectrum of sheaves. We show that the deepest stratum is isomorphic to a subscheme of a relative Hilbert scheme. This provides an example of a family of semistable sheaves having the biggest dimensional global section space.
In the present paper we extend the theory of sheaves on moment graphs due to Braden-MacPherson and Fiebig to the context of an arbitrary oriented equivariant cohomology h (e.g. to algebraic cobordism). We introduce and investigate structure h-sheaves on double moment graphs to describe equivariant oriented cohomology of products of flag varieties. We show that in the case of a total flag variety X of Dynkin type A the space of global sections of the double structure h-sheaf also describes the endomorphism ring of the equivariant h-motive of X.
We develop sheaf theory in the context of difference algebraic geometry. We introduce categories of difference sheaves and develop the appropriate cohomology theories. As specializations, we get difference Galois cohomology, difference Picard group and a good theory of difference torsors.
In this paper we study the second integral cohomology of moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on projective K3 surfaces. If $S$ is a projective K3 surface, $v$ a Mukai vector and $H$ a $v-$generic polarization on $S$, we show that $H^{2}(M_{v},\mathbb{Z})$ is a free $\mathbb{Z}-$module of rank 23 carrying a pure weight-two Hodge structure and a lattice structure, with respect to which $H^{2}(M_{v},\mathbb{Z})$ is Hodge isometric to the Hodge sublattice $v^{\perp}$ of the Mukai lattice of $S$. Similar results are proved for Abelian surfaces.
We develop a new cohomology theory in characteristic p>0, the so called F-gauge cohomology, a cohomology with values in the category of so-called F-gauges, which refines the cristalline cohomology. In this first paper we mainly discuss the theory for smooth projective varieties over perfect fields of charatceristic p. We also compare our theory with other existing structures like the F-zips of Moonen and Wedhorn and the displays of Langer and Zink.
Let M be a moduli space of stable sheaves on a K3 or Abelian surface S. We express the class of the diagonal in the cartesian square of M in terms of the Chern classes of a universal sheaf. Consequently, we obtain generators of the cohomology ring of M. When S is a K3 and M is the Hilbert scheme of length n subschemes, this set of generators is sufficiently small in the sense that there aren't any relations among them in the stable cohomology ring. When S is the cotangent bundle of a Riemann surface, we recover the result of T. Hausel and M. Thaddeus: The cohomology ring of the moduli spaces o…
We show that the cohomology table of any coherent sheaf on projective space is a convergent--but possibly infinite--sum of positive real multiples of the cohomology tables of what we call supernatural sheaves.
We show that hypergeometric differential equations, unitary and Gauss-Manin connections give rise to de Rham cohomology sheaves which do not admit a Bloch-Ogus resolution. The latter is in contrast to Panin's theorem asserting that corresponding étale cohomology sheaves do fulfill Bloch-Ogus theory.
v2: We improved a little bit according to the referee's wishes. v1: On $X$ projective smooth over a field $k$, Pink and Roessler conjecture that the dimension of the Hodge cohomology of an invertible $n$-torsion sheaf $L$ is the same as the one of its $a$-th power $L^a$ if $a$ is prime to $n$, under the assumptions that $X$ lifts to $W_2(k)$ and $dim X\le p$, if $k$ has characteristic $p>0$. They show this if $k$ has characteristic 0 and if $n$ is prime to $p$ in characteristic $p>0$. We show the conjecture in characteristic $p>0$ if $n=p$ assuming in addition that $X$ is ordinary (in the sens…
Using the homogeneous coordinate ring construction of a toric variety IP defined by a complete simplicial fan and the methods of local cohomology theory we develop a framework for the calculation of cohomology groups H^{*}(IP, O(p)) of twisting sheaves O(p) on IP.
We prove, for all reductive groups, that the cohomology sheaves with compact support of stacks of shtukas are ind-smooth over $(X - N)^I$ and that their geometric generic fibers are equiped with an action of $\text{Weil}(X - N, \overlineη)^I$. Our method does not use any compactification of stacks of shtukas.
We give a complete (global) characterization of complex perverse sheaves on semi-abelian varieties in terms of their cohomology jump loci. Our results generalize Schnell's work on perverse sheaves on complex abelian varieties, as well as Gabber-Loeser's results on perverse sheaves on complex affine tori. We apply our results to the study of cohomology jump loci of smooth quasi-projective varieties, to the topology of the Albanese map, and in the context of homological duality properties of complex algebraic varieties.
In this paper, we show that the Galois representations provided by $\ell$-adic cohomology of proper smooth varieties, and more generally by $\ell$-adic intersection cohomology of proper varieties, over any field, are orthogonal or symplectic according to the degree. We deduce this from a preservation result of orthogonal and symplectic pure perverse sheaves by proper direct image. We show moreover that the subgroup of the Grothendieck group generated by orthogonal pure perverse sheaves of even weights and symplectic pure perverse sheaves of odd weights are preserved by Grothendieck's six opera…

These lecture notes cover four topics. There is a proof of the fact that the functors represented by the motivic Eilenberg-Maclane spaces on the motivic homotopy category coincide with the motivic cohomology defined in terms of the motivic complexes. There is a description of the equivariant motivic homotopy category for a finite flat group scheme (over a noetherian base) together with a new characterization of A^1-equivalences. There is a part where we introduce a class of sheaves called solid sheaves. Finally there is a part where we study functors of the form X -> X/G and X -> X^W and show …
We study intersection cohomology of moduli spaces of semistable vector bundles on a complex algebraic surface. Our main result relates intersection Poincare polynomials of the moduli spaces to Donaldson-Thomas invariants of the surface. In support of this result, we compute explicitly intersection Poincare polynomials for sheaves with rank two and three on ruled surfaces.
Let M be a smooth and compact moduli space of stable coherent sheaves on a projective surface S with an effective (or trivial) anti-canonical line bundle. We find generators for the cohomology ring of M, with integral coefficients. When S is simply connected and a universal sheaf E exists over SxM, then its class [E] admits a Kunneth decomposition as a class in the tensor product of the topological K-rings K(S) and K(M). The generators are the Chern classes of the Kunneth factors of [E] in K(M). The general case is similar
We are showing that the Deligne--Beilinson cohomology sheaves ${\cal H}^{q+1}({\bf Z}(q)_{\cal D})$ are torsion free by assuming Kato's conjectures hold true for function fields. This result is `effective' for $q=2$; in this case, by dealing with `arithmetic properties' of the presheaves of mixed Hodge structures defined by singular cohomology, we are able to give a cohomological characterization of the Albanese kernel for surfaces with $p_g=0$.
Intersection sheaves, i.e., the Deligne pairing, were first introduced by Deligne in the setting of Poincare duality for etale cohomology, and later in his work on the determinant of cohomology. Intersection sheaves were generalized from smooth schemes to Cohen-Macaulay schemes by Elkik, and then beyond Cohen-Macaulay schemes by Munoz-Garcia. To define the Abel maps arising in rational simple connectedness on the natural parameter spaces of rational sections, we need a variant of the construction of Munoz-Garcia that has the good properties of the construction using det and Div. In addition, w…
We study a collection of stability conditions (in the sense of Schmitt) for complexes of sheaves over a smooth complex projective variety indexed by a positive rational parameter. We show that the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of a complex for small values of this parameter encodes the Harder-Narasimhan filtrations of the cohomology sheaves of this complex. Finally we relate a stratification into locally closed subschemes of a parameter space for complexes associated to these stability parameters with the stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types.
The paper is concerned with cohomology of the small quantum group at a root of unity, and of its upper triangular subalgebra, with coefficients in a tilting module. We relate it to a certain t-structure on the derived category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the Springer resolution, and to equivariant coherent IC sheaves on the nil-cone. The support of these cohomology is described in terms of cells in affine Weyl groups, and the basis in the Grothendieck group they provide is related to the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis, as predicted by J. Humphreys and V. Ostrik. The proof is based on earlier res…
We establish a blow-up formula for Hodge cohomology of locally free sheaves on smooth proper varieties over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. For this, we introduce a notion of relative Hodge sheaves and study their behavior under blow-ups along smooth centers. In particular, as an application, we study the blow-up invariance of the $E_2$-degeneracy of the Hochschild--Kostant--Rosenberg spectral sequence for smooth proper varieties.
We give an algorithmic description of the action of the Chern classes of tautological bundles on the cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces within the framework of Nakajima's oscillator algebra. This leads to an identification of the cohomology ring of Hilbert schemes of the affine plane with a ring of differential operators on a Fock space. We end with the computation of the top Segre classes of tautological bundles associated to line bundles on Hilb^n up to n=7, and give a conjecture for the generating series.
We study the vanishing cycles of a one-parameter smoothing of a complex analytic space and show that the weight filtration on its perverse cohomology sheaf of the highest degree is quite close to the monodromy filtration so that its graded pieces have a modified Lefschetz decomposition. We describe its primitive part using the weight filtration on the perverse cohomology sheaves of the constant sheaves. As a corollary we show in the local complete intersection case that 1 is not an eigenvalue of the monodromy on the reduced Milnor cohomology at any points if and only if the total space and the…
Let $X$ be a del Pezzo surface. When the degree of $X$ is at least 4, we compute the cohomology of a general sheaf in the moduli space of Gieseker semistable sheaves. We also classify the Chern characters for which the general sheaf in the moduli space is non-special, i.e. has at most one nonzero cohomology group. Our results hold for arbitrary polarizations, slope semistability, and semi-exceptional moduli spaces. When the degree of $X$ is at least 3, we further show our construction of certain vector bundles implies the existence of stable and semistable sheaves with respect to the anti-cano…
Gerstenhaber and Schack ([GS]) developed a deformation theory of presheaves of algebras on small categories. We translate their cohomological description to sheaf cohomology. More precisely, we describe the deformation space of (admissible) quasicoherent sheaves of algebras on a quasiprojective scheme $X$ in terms of sheaf cohomology on $X$ and $X\times X$. These results are applied to the study of deformations of the sheaf $D_X$ of differential operators on $X$. In particular, in case $X$ is a flag variety we show that any deformation of $D_X$, which is induced by a deformation of $\cO_X$, mu…
For a smooth quasi-projective surface S over complex numbers we consider the Borel-Moore homology of the stack of coherent sheaves on S with compact support and make this space into an associative algebra by a version of the Hall multiplication. This multiplication involves data (virtual pullbacks) governing the derived moduli stack, i.e., the perfect obstruction theory naturally existing on the non-derived stack. By restricting to sheaves with support of given dimension, we obtain several types of Hecke operators. In particular, we study R(S), the Hecke algebra of 0-dimensional sheaves. For t…
Let $\mathbf{M}_n$ be the Simpson compactification of twisted ideal sheaves $\mathcal{I}_{L,Q}(1)$ where $Q$ is a rank $4$ quardric hypersurface in $\mathbb{P}^n$ and $L$ is a linear subspace of dimension $n-2$. This paper calculates the intersection Poincaré polynomial of $\mathbf{M}_n$ using Kirwan's desingularization method. We obtain the intersection Poincaré polynomial of the moduli space for one-dimensional sheaves on del Pezzo surfaces of degree $\geq 8$ by considering wall-crossings of stable pairs and complexes.
