In fluid dynamics governed by the one dimensional inviscid Burgers equation $\partial_t u+u\partial_x(u)=0$, the stirring is explained by the sticky particles model. A Markov process $([Z^1_t,Z^2_t],\,t\geq0)$ describes the motion of random turbulent intervals which evolve inside an other Markov process $([Z^3_t,Z^4_t],\,t\geq0)$, describing the motion of random clusters concerned with the turbulence. Then, the four velocity processes $(u(Z^i_t,t),\,t\geq0)$ are backward semi-martingales.
This work is about the existence of martingale solutions and weak solutions for a stochastic nonlocal Burgers equation on bounded intervals. The existence of a martingale solution is shown by using a Galerkin approximation, Prokhorov's theorem and Skorokhod's embedding theorem. The same Galerkin approximation also leads to the existence of weak solution for the corresponding deterministic nonlocal Burgers equation on a bounded domain.
We review the formulation of the stochastic Burgers equation as a martingale problem. One way of understanding the difficulty in making sense of the equation is to note that it is a stochastic PDE with distributional drift, so we first review how to construct finite-dimensional diffusions with distributional drift. We then present the uniqueness result for the stationary martingale problem of [Gubinelli, Perkowski 2016], but we mainly emphasize the heuristic derivation and also we include a (very simple) extension of [Gubinelli, Perkowski 2016] to a non-stationary regime.
We develop a martingale approach for a class of singular stochastic PDEs of Burgers type (including fractional and multi-component Burgers equations) by constructing a domain for their infinitesimal generators. It was known that the domain must have trivial intersection with the usual cylinder test functions, and to overcome this difficulty we import some ideas from paracontrolled distributions to an infinite dimensional setting in order to construct a domain of controlled functions. Using the new domain, we are able to prove existence and uniqueness for the Kolmogorov backward equation and th…
In this paper, we address the problem of existence and uniqueness of a global classical solution to a multidimensional stochastic Burgers equation without gradient-type assumptions on the force or the initial condition. The equation is first transformed to a random PDE, and then solved via the associated forward-backward SDE. Additionally, we obtain a new a priori gradient estimate valid for a large class of second-order quasilinear parabolic PDEs which becomes an important tool in our approach. Also, we study the stochastic Burgers equation in the vanishing viscosity limit.
In the paper, we consider a stochastic hybrid Korteweg - de Vries - Burgers type equation with multiplicative noise in the form of cylindrical Wiener process. We prove the existence of a martingale solution to the equation studied. The proof of the existence of the solution is based on two approximations of the considered problem and the compactness method. First, we introduce an auxiliary problem corresponding to the equation studied. Then, we prove the existence of a martingale solution to this problem. Finally, we show that the solution of the auxiliary problem converges, in some sense, to …
This paper aims to study a new class of integral equations called backward doubly stochastic Volterra integral equations (BDSVIEs, for short). The notion of symmetrical martingale solutions (SM-solutions, for short) is introduced for BDSVIEs. And the existence and uniqueness theorem for BDSVIEs in the sense of SM-solutions is established.
We deal with reflected solutions of anticipated backward doubly stochastic differential equations (RABDSDEs) driven by Teugels martingales associated with Lévy process under a Lipschitz generator where the coefficients of these BDSDEs depend on the future and present value of the solution $\left( Y,Z\right) $. Also we study the existence of a solution for anticipated BDSDEs.
We discuss a class of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations(BSDEs) with no driving martingale. When the randomness of the driver depends on a general Markov process $X$, those BSDEs are denominated Markovian BSDEs and can be associated to a deterministic problem, called Pseudo-PDE which constitute the natural generalization of a parabolicsemilinear PDE which naturally appears when the underlying filtration is Brownian. We consider two aspects of well-posedness forthe Pseudo-PDEs: "classical" and "martingale" solutions.
In this paper we explain that the natural filtration of a continuous Hunt process is continuous, and show that martingales over such a filtration are continuous. We further establish a martingale representation theorem for a class of continuous Hunt processes under certain technical conditions. In particular we establish the martingale representation theorem for the martingale parts of (reflecting) symmetric diffusions in a bounded domain with a continuous boundary. Together with an approach put forward in Lyons et al(2009), our martingale representation theorem is then applied to the study of…
In this paper, we present martingale decomposition on time scales. We establish the related backward stochastic dynamic equations on time scales (this paper BS$\nabla$E for short, concerning $\nabla$-integral on time scales) which unify backward stochastic differential equations and backward stochastic difference equations. We prove the existence and uniqueness theorem of BS$\nabla$E. This work can be considered as a unification and a generalization of similar results in backward stochastic difference equations and backward stochastic differential equations.
This paper studies forward and backward versions of random Burgers equation (RBE) with stochastic coefficients. Firstly, the celebrated Cole-Hopf transformation reduces the forward RBE to a forward random heat equation (RHE) that can be treated pathwise. Next we provide a connection between the backward Burgers equation and a system of FBSDEs. Exploiting this connection, we derive a generalization of the Cole-Hopf transformation which links the backward RBE with the backward RHE and investigate the range of its applicability. Stochastic Feynman-Kac representations for the solutions are provide…
In this book we establish under suitable assumptions the uniqueness and existence of viscosity solutions of Kolmogorov backward equations for stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). In addition, we show that this solution is the semigroup of the corresponding SPDE. This generalizes the Feynman-Kac formula to SPDEs and establishes a link between solutions of Kolmogorov equations and solutions of the corresponding SPDEs. In contrast to the literature we only assume that the nonlinear part of the drift is Lipschitz continuous on bounded sets (and not globally Lipschitz continuous) and …
We study a backward stochastic differential equation whose terminal condition is an integrable function of a local martingale and generator has bounded growth in $z$. When the local martingale is a strict local martingale, the BSDE admits at least two different solutions. Other than a solution whose first component is of class D, there exists another solution whose first component is not of class D and strictly dominates the class D solution. Both solutions are $\mathbb{L}^p$ integrable for any $0<p<1$. These two different BSDE solutions generate different viscosity solutions to the associated…
Results on the existence, uniqueness and strict comparison for solutions to a BSDE driven by a multi-dimensional RCLL martingale are established. The goal is to develop a general multi-asset framework encompassing a wide spectrum of nonlinear financial models with jumps, including as particular cases the setups studied by Peng and Xu \cite{PX2009,PX2010} and Dumitrescu et al. \cite{DGQS2018} who dealt with BSDEs driven by a one-dimensional Brownian motion and a purely discontinuous martingale with a single jump.
We describe a probabilistic construction of $H^s$-regular solutions for the spatially periodic forced Burgers equation by using a characterization of this solution through a forward-backward stochastic system.
We introduce a generalized notion of semilinear elliptic partial differential equations where the corresponding second order partial differential operator $L$ has a generalized drift. We investigate existence and uniqueness of generalized solutions of class $C^1$. The generator $L$ is associated with a Markov process $X$ which is the solution of a stochastic differential equation with distributional drift. If the semilinear PDE admits boundary conditions, its solution is naturally associated with a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with random terminal time, where the forward pr…
In this paper, we propose a new notion of Forward--Backward Martingale Problem (FBMP), and study its relationship with the weak solution to the forward--backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). The FBMP extends the idea of the well-known (forward) martingale problem of Stroock and Varadhan, but it is structured specifically to fit the nature of an FBSDE. We first prove a general sufficient condition for the existence of the solution to the FBMP. In the Markovian case with uniformly continuous coefficients, we show that the weak solution to the FBSDE (or equivalently, the solution t…
Using properties of backward stochastic differential equations we give new proofs of some well known results on BMO martingales and improve some estimates of BMO norms.
Suppose that a real valued process X is given as a solution to a stochastic differential equation. Then, for any twice continuously differentiable function f, the backward Kolmogorov equation gives a condition for f(t,X) to be a local martingale. We generalize the backward equation in two main ways. First, it is extended to non-differentiable functions. Second, the process X is not required to satisfy an SDE. Instead, it is only required to be a quasimartingale satisfying an integrability condition, and the martingale condition for f(t,X) is then expressed in terms of the marginal distribution…
We deal with a class of fully coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDE for short), driven by Teugels martingales associated with some Lévy process. Under some assumptions on the derivatives of the coefficients, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution on an arbitrarily large time interval. Moreover, we establish stability and comparison theorems for the solutions of such equations. Note that the present work extends known results by Jianfeng Zhang (Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. Ser. B 6 (2006), no. 4, 927--940), proved for FBSDEs driven by a Brownian mo…
We study a single-period optimal transport problem on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with a covariance-type cost function $c(x,y) = (x_1-y_1)(x_2-y_2)$ and a backward martingale constraint. We show that a transport plan $γ$ is optimal if and only if there is a maximal monotone set $G$ that supports the $x$-marginal of $γ$ and such that $c(x,y) = \min_{z\in G}c(z,y)$ for every $(x,y)$ in the support of $γ$. We obtain sharp regularity conditions for the uniqueness of an optimal plan and for its representation in terms of a map. Our study is motivated by a variant of the classical Kyle model of insider trading f…
We derive from a class of microscopic asymmetric interacting particle systems on ${\mathbb Z}$, with long range jump rates of order $|\cdot|^{-(1+α)}$ for $0<α<2$, different continuum fractional SPDEs. More specifically, we show the equilibrium fluctuations of the hydrodynamics mass density field of zero-range processes, depending on the stucture of the asymmetry, and whether the field is translated with process characteristics velocity, is governed in various senses by types of fractional stochastic heat or Burgers equations. The main result: Suppose the jump rate is such that its symmetrizat…
In this paper, we establish an analytic framework for studying set-valued backward stochastic differential equations (set-valued BSDE), motivated largely by the current studies of dynamic set-valued risk measures for multi-asset or network-based financial models. Our framework will make use of the notion of Hukuhara difference between sets, in order to compensate the lack of "inverse" operation of the traditional Minkowski addition, whence the vector space structure in set-valued analysis. While proving the well-posedness of a class of set-valued BSDEs, we shall also address some fundamental i…
In a preceding article, we have studied a generalization of the problem of finding a martingale on a manifold whose terminal value is known. This article completes the results obtained in the first article by providing uniqueness and existence theorems in a general framework (in particular if positive curvatures are allowed), still using differential geometry tools.
In this paper, we deal with a class of reflected backward stochastic differential equations associated to the subdifferential operator of a lower semi-continuous convex function driven by Teugels martingales associated with Lévy process. We obtain the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these equations by means of the penalization method. As its application, we give a probabilistic interpretation for the solutions of a class of partial differential-integral inclusions.
We study a stochastic optimal control problem for forward-backward control systems with quadratic generators. In order to establish the first and second-order variational and adjoint equations, we obtain a new estimate for one-dimensional linear BSDEs with unbounded stochastic Lipschitz coefficients involving bounded mean oscillation martingales (BMO-martingales for short) and prove the solvability for a class of multi-dimensional BSDEs with this type. Finally, a new global stochastic maximum principle is deduced.
In this paper, a class of reflected generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations (reflected GBDSDEs in short) driven by Teugels martingales associated with Lévy process and the integral with respect to an adapted continuous increasing process is investigated. We obtain the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these equations. A probabilistic interpretation for solutions to a class of reflected stochastic partial differential integral equations (PDIEs in short) with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition is given.
The problem of finding a martingale on a manifold with a fixed random terminal value can be solved by considering BSDEs with a generator with quadratic growth. We study here a generalization of these equations and we give uniqueness and existence results in two different frameworks, using differential geometry tools. Applications to PDEs are given, including a certain class of Dirichlet problems on manifolds.
In this paper, we study a class of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Teugels martingales associated with an independent Lévy process and an independent Brownian motion (BSVIELs). We prove the existence and uniqueness as well as stability of the adapted M-solutions for those equations. Moreover, a duality principle and then a comparison theorem are established. As an application, we derive a class of dynamic risk measures by means of M-solutions of certain BSVIELs.
We show that, under certain smoothness conditions, a Brownian martingale at a fixed time can be represented as an exponential of its value at a later time. The time-dependent generator of this exponential operator is equal to one half times the Malliavin derivative. This result can also be seen as a generalization of the semi-group theory of parabolic partial differential equations to the parabolic path-dependent partial differential equations introduced by Dupire (2009) and Cont and Founié (2011). The exponential operator can be calculated explicitly in a series expansion, which resembles the…
Let the process Y(t) be a Skorohod integral process with respect to Brownian motion. We use a recent result by Tudor (2004), to prove that Y(t) can be represented as the limit of linear combinations of processes that are products of forward and backward Brownian martingales. Such a result is a further step towards the connection between the theory of continuous-time (semi)martingales, and that of anticipating stochastic integration. We establish an explicit link between our results and the classic characterization, due to Duc and Nualart (1990), of the chaotic decomposition of Skorohod integra…
In this paper we study dynamic backward problems, with the computation of conditional expectations as a main objective, in a framework where the (forward) state process satisfies a Volterra type SDE, with fractional Brownian motion as a typical example. Such processes are neither Markov processes nor semimartingales, and most notably, they feature a certain time inconsistency which makes any direct application of Markovian ideas, such as flow properties, impossible without passing to a path-dependent framework. Our main result is a functional Itô formula, extending the seminal work of Dupire \…
In this paper, we deal with a class of backward doubly stochastic differential equations (BDSDEs, in short) involving subdifferential operator of a convex function and driven by Teugels martingales associated with a Lévy process. We show the existence and uniqueness result by means of Yosida approximation. As an application, we give the existence of stochastic viscosity solution for a class of multivalued stochastic partial differential-integral equations (MSPIDEs, in short).

In this paper, we study backward stochastic differential equations driven by a G-Brownian motion. The solution of such new type of BSDE is a triple (Y,Z,K) where K is a decreasing G-martingale. Under a Lipschitz condition for generator f and g in Y and Z. The existence and uniqueness of the solution (Y,Z,K) is proved. Although the methods used in the proof and the related estimates are quite different from the classical proof for BSDEs, stochastic calculus in G-framework plays a central role.
We demonstrate that backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) may be reformulated as ordinary functional differential equations on certain path spaces. In this framework, neither Itô's integrals nor martingale representation formulate are needed. This approach provides new tools for the study of BSDE, and is particularly useful for the study of BSDE with partial information. The approach allows us to study the following type of backward stochastic differential equations: \[dY_t^j=-f_0^j(t,Y_t,L(M)_t) dt-\sum_{i=1}^df_i^j(t,Y_t), dB_t^i+dM_t^j\] with $Y_T=ξ$, on a general filtered proba…
The BMO martingale theory is extensively used to study nonlinear multi-dimensional stochastic equations (SEs) in $\cR^p$ ($p\in [1, \infty)$) and backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) in $\cR^p\times \cH^p$ ($p\in (1, \infty)$) and in $\cR^\infty\times \bar{\cH^\infty}^{BMO}$, with the coefficients being allowed to be unbounded. In particular, the probabilistic version of Fefferman's inequality plays a crucial role in the development of our theory, which seems to be new. Several new results are consequently obtained. The particular multi-dimensional linear case for SDEs and BSDEs …
In this paper, we introduce a new kind of reflected backward stochastic differential equations (RBSDEs) driven by a martingale, in a Markov chain model, but not driven by Brownian motion, and give existence and uniqueness results for the new equations. Then we discuss American options in a finite state Markov chain model, in the presence of a stochastic discount function (SDF) and using the theory of the new RBSDEs. We show that there exists a constrained super-hedging strategy for an American option, which is unique in our framework as the solution to an RBSDE.
In this paper, we study a class of quadratic Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs) which arises naturally when studying the problem of utility maximization with portfolio constraints. We first establish existence and uniqueness results for such BSDEs and then, we give an application to the utility maximization problem. Three cases of utility functions will be discussed: the exponential, power and logarithmic ones.
In this paper we introduce and study the concept of optimal and surely optimal dual martingales in the context of dual valuation of Bermudan options, and outline the development of new algorithms in this context. We provide a characterization theorem, a theorem which gives conditions for a martingale to be surely optimal, and a stability theorem concerning martingales which are near to be surely optimal in a sense. Guided by these results we develop a framework of backward algorithms for constructing such a martingale. In turn this martingale may then be utilized for computing an upper bound o…
In this paper, we obtain stability results for martingale representations in a very general framework. More specifically, we consider a sequence of martingales each adapted to its own filtration, and a sequence of random variables measurable with respect to those filtrations. We assume that the terminal values of the martingales and the associated filtrations converge in the extended sense, and that the limiting martingale is quasi--left--continuous and admits the predictable representation property. Then, we prove that each component in the martingale representation of the sequence converges …

We consider a class of nearest-neighbor weakly asymmetric mass conservative particle systems evolving on $\mathbb{Z}$, which includes zero-range and types of exclusion processes, starting from a perturbation of a stationary state. When the weak asymmetry is of order $O(n^{-γ})$ for $1/2<γ\leq1$, we show that the scaling limit of the fluctuation field, as seen across process characteristics, is a generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. However, at the critical weak asymmetry when $γ=1/2$, we show that all limit points satisfy a martingale formulation which may be interpreted in terms of a stoch…
Backward stochastic differential equations extend the martingale representation theorem to the nonlinear setting. This can be seen as path-dependent counterpart of the extension from the heat equation to fully nonlinear parabolic equations in the Markov setting. This paper extends such a nonlinear representation to the context where the random variable of interest is measurable with respect to the information at a finite stopping time. We provide a complete wellposedness theory which covers the semilinear case (backward SDE), the semilinear case with obstacle (reflected backward SDE), and the …
In this paper we consider a class of BSDEs with drivers of quadratic growth, on a stochastic basis generated by continuous local martingales. We first derive the Markov property of a forward--backward system (FBSDE) if the generating martingale is a strong Markov process. Then we establish the differentiability of a FBSDE with respect to the initial value of its forward component. This enables us to obtain the main result of this article, namely a representation formula for the control component of its solution. The latter is relevant in the context of securitization of random liabilities aris…
In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution to reflected backward doubly stochastic differential equations driven by Teugels martingales associated with a Lévy process where the barrier process is not necessarily right continuous by approximating such equations by a new version of penalization method.
We address a class of backward stochastic differential equations on a bounded interval, where the driving noise is a marked, or multivariate, point process. Assuming that the jump times are totally inaccessible and a technical condition holds (see Assumption (A) below), we prove existence and uniqueness results under Lipschitz conditions on the coefficients. Some counter-examples show that our assumptions are indeed needed. We use a novel approach that allows reduction to a (finite or infinite) system of deterministic differential equations, thus avoiding the use of martingale representation t…
