Suppose that a real valued process X is given as a solution to a stochastic differential equation. Then, for any twice continuously differentiable function f, the backward Kolmogorov equation gives a condition for f(t,X) to be a local martingale.
We generalize the backward equation in two main ways. First, it is extended to non-differentiable functions. Second, the process X is not required to satisfy an SDE. Instead, it is only required to be a quasimartingale satisfying an integrability condition, and the martingale condition for f(t,X) is then expressed in terms of the marginal distributions, drift measure and jumps of X. The proof involves the stochastic calculus of Dirichlet processes and a time-reversal argument.
These results are then applied to show that a continuous and strong Markov martingale is uniquely determined by its marginal distributions.
We prove an existence and uniqueness result for generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations driven by Lévy processes with non-Lipschitz assumptions.
This paper deals with generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations driven by a Lévy process (GBDSDEL, in short). Under left or right continuous and linear growth conditions, we prove the existence of minimal (resp. maximal) solutions.
This paper is intended to give a probabilistic representation for stochastic viscosity solution of semi-linear reflected stochastic partial differential equations with nonlinear Neumann boundary condition. We use it connection with reflected generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equation.
This paper is intended to give a representation for stochastic viscosity solution of semi-linear reflected stochastic partial differential equations with nonlinear Neumann boundary condition. We use its connection with reflected generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations.
A new class of generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations (GBDSDEs in short) driven by Teugels martingales associated with Lévy process are investigated. We establish a comparison theorem which allows us to derive an existence result of solutions under continuous and linear growth conditions.
In this paper, a class of generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations whose coefficient contains the subdifferential operators of two convex functions (also called generalized backward doubly stochastic variational inequalities) are considered. By means of a penalization argument based on Yosida approximation, we establish the existence and uniqueness of the solution. As an application, this result is used to derive existence result of stochastic viscosity solution for a class of multivalued stochastic Dirichlet-Neumann problems.
In this paper, a class of reflected generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations (reflected GBDSDEs in short) driven by Teugels martingales associated with Lévy process and the integral with respect to an adapted continuous increasing process is investigated. We obtain the existence and uniqueness of solutions to these equations. A probabilistic interpretation for solutions to a class of reflected stochastic partial differential integral equations (PDIEs in short) with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition is given.
We propose to study a new type of Backward stochastic differential equations driven by a family of Itô's processes. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solution, and investigate stability and comparison theorem.
In this paper, we study reflected generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations driven by Teugels martingales associated with Lévy process (RGBDSDELs, in short) with one continuous barrier. Under uniformly Lipschitz coefficients, we prove existence and uniqueness result by means of the penalization method and the fixed point theorem. As an application, this study allows us to give a probabilistic representation for the solutions to a class of reflected stochastic partial differential integral equations (SPDIEs, in short) with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition.
The connection between forward backward doubly stochastic differential equations and the optimal filtering problem is established without using the Zakai's equation. The solutions of forward backward doubly stochastic differential equations are expressed in terms of conditional law of a partially observed Markov diffusion process. It then follows that the adjoint time-inverse forward backward doubly stochastic differential equations governs the evolution of the unnormalized filtering density in the optimal filtering problem.
In this paper, we generalize to Gaussian Volterra processes the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of non linear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) and we establish the relation between the non linear BSDE and the partial differential equation (PDE). A comparison theorem for the solution of the BSDE is proved and the continuity of its law is studied.
We present some results on Bernstein processes which are Brownian diffusions that appear in Euclidean Quantum Mechanics: We express the distributions of these processes with the help of those of Bessel processes. We then determine two solutions of the dual equation of the heat equation with potential. This continues the calculation of Lescot for the solution with an Ornstein-Uhlenbek process .
Explicit solutions for a class of linear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) driven by Gaussian Volterra processes are given. These processes include the multifractional brownian motion and the multifractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. By an Itô formula, proven in the context of Malliavin calculus, the BSDE is associated to a linear second order partial differential equation with terminal condition whose solution is given by a Feynman-Kac type formula. An application to self-financing trading strategies is discussed.
This work studies the spatial derivatives of decoupling fields to strongly coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations in a Brownian setting. We formally deduce the backward dynamics of the first and higher spatial derivatives. In addition, we study necessary conditions under which singularities in either one of them can occur while moving backwards in time.
In this paper, we deal with one dimensional backward doubly stochastic differential equations (BDSDEs) where the coefficient is left Lipschitz in y (may be discontinuous) and uniformly continuous in z. We obtain a generalized comparison theorem and a generalized existence theorem of BDSDEs .
We define a class of reflected backward stochastic differential equation (RBSDE) driven by a marked point process (MPP) and a Brownian motion, where the solution is constrained to stay above a given càdlàg process. The MPP is only required to be non-explosive and to have totally inaccessible jumps. Under suitable assumptions on the coefficients we obtain existence and uniqueness of the solution, using the Snell envelope theory. We use the equation to represent the value function of an optimal stopping problem, and we characterize the optimal strategy. Keywords: reflected backward stochastic di…
We discuss a class of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations(BSDEs) with no driving martingale. When the randomness of the driver depends on a general Markov process $X$, those BSDEs are denominated Markovian BSDEs and can be associated to a deterministic problem, called Pseudo-PDE which constitute the natural generalization of a parabolicsemilinear PDE which naturally appears when the underlying filtration is Brownian. We consider two aspects of well-posedness forthe Pseudo-PDEs: "classical" and "martingale" solutions.
We study a class of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by a random measure or, equivalently, by a marked point process. Under appropriate assumptions we prove well-posedness and continuous dependence of the solution on the data. We next address optimal control problems for point processes of general non-markovian type and show that BSDEs can be used to prove existence of an optimal control and to represent the value function. Finally we introduce a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, also stochastic and of backward type, for this class of control problems: when the state s…
In this paper we study backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by the compensated random measure associated to a given pure jump Markov process X on a general state space K. We apply these results to prove well-posedness of a class of nonlinear parabolic differential equations on K, that generalize the Kolmogorov equation of X. Finally we formulate and solve optimal control problems for Markov jump processes, relating the value function and the optimal control law to an appropriate BSDE that also allows to construct probabilistically the unique solution to the Hamilton-Jacobi…
In this paper we show the existence and form uniqueness of a solution for multidimensional backward stochastic differential equations driven by a multidimensional Lévy process with moments of all orders. The results are important from a pure mathematical point of view as well as in the world of finance: an application to Clark-Ocone and Feynman-Kac formulas for multidimensional Lévy processes is presented. Moreover, the Feynman-Kac formula and the related partial differential integral equations provide an analogue of the famous Black-Scholes partial differential equation and thus can be used f…
Recent developments on financial markets have revealed the limits of Brownian motion pricing models when they are applied to actual markets. Lévy processes, that admit jumps over time, have been found more useful for applications. Thus, we suggest a Lévy model based on Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (FBSDEs) for option pricing in a Lévy-type market. We show the existence and uniqueness of a solution to FBSDEs driven by a Lévy process. This result is important from the mathematical point of view, and also, provides a much more realistic approach to option pricing.
The objective of this paper is to give conditions ensuring that the backward partial integro differential equation associated with a multidimensional jump-diffusion with a pure jump component has a unique classical solution; that is the solution is continuous, twice differentiable in the diffusion component and differentiable in time. Our proof uses a probabilistic arguments and extends the results of Pham (1998) to processes with a pure jump component where the jump intensity is modulated by a diffusion process. This result is particularly useful in some applications to pricing and hedging of…
In this paper we explain that the natural filtration of a continuous Hunt process is continuous, and show that martingales over such a filtration are continuous. We further establish a martingale representation theorem for a class of continuous Hunt processes under certain technical conditions. In particular we establish the martingale representation theorem for the martingale parts of (reflecting) symmetric diffusions in a bounded domain with a continuous boundary. Together with an approach put forward in Lyons et al(2009), our martingale representation theorem is then applied to the study of…
We prove that under natural assumptions on the data strong solutions in Sobolev spaces of semilinear parabolic equations in divergence form involving measure on the right-hand side may be represented by solutions of some generalized backward stochastic differential equations. As an application we provide stochastic representation of strong solutions of the obstacle problem be means of solutions of some reflected backward stochastic differential equations. To prove the latter result we use a stochastic homographic approximation for solutions of the reflected backward equation. The approximation…
In this article we derive Talagrand's $T_2$ inequality on the path space w.r.t. the maximum norm for various stochastic processes, including solutions of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations with measurable drifts, backward stochastic differential equations, and the value process of optimal stopping problems. The proofs do not make use of the Girsanov method, but of pathwise arguments. These are used to show that all our processes of interest are Lipschitz transformations of processes which are known to satisfy desired functional inequalities.
We present a new algorithms to discretize a decoupled forward backward stochastic differential equations driven by pure jump Lévy process (FBSDEL in short). The method is built in two steps. Firstly, we approximate the FBSDEL by a forward backward stochastic differential equations driven by a Brownian motion and Poisson process (FBSDEBP in short), in which we replace the small jumps by a Brownian motion. Then, we prove the convergence of the approximation when the size of small jumps $\eps$ goes to 0. In the second step, we obtain the $L^p$ Hölder continuity of the solution of FBSDEBP and we c…
In this paper a new class of generalized backward doubly stochastic differential equations is investigated. This class involves an integral with respect to an adapted continuous increasing process. A probabilistic representation for viscosity solutions of semi-linear stochastic partial differential equations with a Neumann boundary condition is given.
We introduce a generalized notion of semilinear elliptic partial differential equations where the corresponding second order partial differential operator $L$ has a generalized drift. We investigate existence and uniqueness of generalized solutions of class $C^1$. The generator $L$ is associated with a Markov process $X$ which is the solution of a stochastic differential equation with distributional drift. If the semilinear PDE admits boundary conditions, its solution is naturally associated with a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE) with random terminal time, where the forward pr…
For an $\cF_T$-measurable payoff of a European type contingent claim, the recursive utility process/dynamic risk measure can be described by the adapted solution to a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). However, for an $\cF_T$-measurable stochastic process (called a position process, not necessarily $\dbF$-adapted), mimicking BSDE's approach will lead to a time-inconsistent recursive utility/dynamic risk measure. It is found that a more proper approach is to use the adapted solution to a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE). The corresponding notions are called …
It is proved that the distributions of scaling limits of Continuous Time Random Walks (CTRWs) solve integro-differential equations akin to Fokker-Planck Equations for diffusion processes. In contrast to previous such results, it is not assumed that the underlying process has absolutely continuous laws. Moreover, governing equations in the backward variables are derived. Three examples of anomalous diffusion processes illustrate the theory.
We define some approximation schemes for different kinds of generalized backward stochastic differential systems, considered in the Markovian framework. We propose a mixed approximation scheme for a decoupled system of forward reflected SDE and backward stochastic variational inequality. We use an Euler scheme type, combined with Yosida approximation techniques.
The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we derive upper and lower non-Gaussian bounds for the densities of the marginal laws of the solutions to backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) driven by fractional Brownian motions. Our arguments consist of utilising a relationship between fractional BSDEs and quasilinear partial differential equations of mixed type, together with the profound Nourdin-Viens formula. In the linear case, upper and lower Gaussian bounds for the densities and the tail probabilities of solutions are obtained with simple arguments by their explicit expressions …
In this paper, we consider the fully coupled forward-backward stochastic functional differential equations (FBSFDEs) with stochastic functional differential equations as the forward equations and the generalized anticipated backward stochastic differential equations as the backward equations. We will prove the existence and uniqueness theorem for FBSFDEs. As an application, we deal with a quadratic optimal control problem for functional stochastic systems, and get the explicit form of the optimal control by virtue of FBSFDEs.
In this article, we study the extremal processes of branching Brownian motions conditioned on having an unusually large maximum. The limiting point measures form a one-parameter family and are the decoration point measures in the extremal processes of several branching processes, including branching Brownian motions with variable speed and multitype branching Brownian motions. We give a new, alternative representation of these point measures and we show that they form a continuous family. This also yields a simple probabilistic expression for the constant that appears in the large deviation pr…
In this paper, we provide variation of constants formulae for linear (forward) stochastic Volterra integral equations (SVIEs, for short) and linear Type-II backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short) in the usual Itô's framework. For these purposes, we define suitable classes of stochastic Volterra kernels and introduce new notions of the products of adapted $L^2$-processes. Observing the algebraic properties of the products, we obtain the variation of constants formulae by means of the corresponding resolvent. Our framework includes SVIEs with singular kernels such as …
We propose an explicit construction of a stationary solution for a stochastic recursion of the form $X\circθ=ϕ(X)$ on a partially-ordered Polish space, when the monotonicity of $ϕ$ is not assumed. Under certain conditions, we show that an extension of the original probability space exists, on which a solution is well-defined, and construct explicitly this extension. We then provide conditions for the solution to be defined as well on the original space. We finally apply these results to the stability study of two non-monotonic queueing systems.
We give a scheme of using the coupling method to obtain strong bounds for the convergence rate of the distribution of the backward renewal process in the total variation distance. This scheme can be applied to a wide class of regenerative processes in queuing theory.
In this paper, we consider coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs in short) with parameter $\varepsilon >0$. We study the asymptotic behavior of its solutions and establish a large deviation principle for the corresponding processes.
This note aims to give an explicit solution for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations with linear time delayed generators. The process $Y$ is expressed by an integral whose kernel is explicitly given. The processes $Z$ is expressed by Hida-Malliavin derivatives involving $Y$.
As well-known, transition probabilities of jump Markov processes satisfy Kolmogorov's backward and forward equations. In the seminal 1940 paper, William Feller investigated solutions of Kolmogorov's equations for jump Markov processes. Recently the authors solved the problem studied by Feller and showed that the minimal solution of Kolmogorov's backward and forward equations is the transition probability of the corresponding jump Markov process if the transition rate at each state is bounded. This paper presents more general results. For Kolmogorov's backward equation, the sufficient condition…
We present an explicit solution triplet $(Y, Z, K)$ to the backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE) of linear type, driven by a Brownian motion and a compensated Poisson random measure. The process $Y$ is expressed by an integral whose kernel is explicitly given. The processes $Z$ and $K$ are expressed by Hida-Malliavin derivatives involving $Y$.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions of Forward Backward Stochastic Differential Equations in the coupled case, when the diffusion coefficient of the forward equation is multiplicatively perturbed by a small parameter that converges to zero. Furthermore, we establish a Large Deviation Principle for the laws of the corresponding processes.
A coupling by reflection of a time-inhomogeneous diffusion process on a manifold are studied. The condition we assume is a natural time-inhomogeneous extension of lower Ricci curvature bounds. In particular, it includes the case of backward Ricci flow. As in time-homogeneous cases, our coupling provides a gradient estimate of the diffusion semigroup which yields the strong Feller property. To construct the coupling via discrete approximation, we establish the convergence in law of geodesic random walks as well as a uniform non-explosion type estimate.
We study the joint asymptotics of forward and backward processes of numbers of non-empty urns in an infinite urn scheme. The probabilities of balls hitting the urns are assumed to satisfy the conditions of regular decrease. We prove weak convergence to a two-dimensional Gaussian process. Its covariance function depends only on exponent of regular decrease of probabilities. We obtain parameter estimates that have a normal asymototics for its joint distribution together with forward and backward processes. We use these estimates to construct statistical tests for the homogeneity of the urn schem…
By analogy with the theory of Backward Stochastic Differential Equations, we define Backward Stochastic Difference Equations on spaces related to discrete time, finite state processes. This paper considers these processes as constructions in their own right, not as approximations to the continuous case. We establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions under weaker assumptions than are needed in the continuous time setting, and also establish a comparison theorem for these solutions. The conditions of this theorem are shown to approximate those required in the continuous time setting. We …
In this paper, we consider the stochastic optimal control problems under G-expectation. Based on the theory of backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion, which was introduced in [10.11], we can investigate the more general stochastic optimal control problems under G-expectation than that were constructed in [28]. Then we obtain a generalized dynamic programming principle and the value function is proved to be a viscosity solution of a fully nonlinear second-order partial differential equation.
In this paper, we study the reflected backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion with two reflecting obstacles, which means that the solution lies between two prescribed processes. A new kind of approximate Skorohod condition is proposed to derive the uniqueness and existence of the solutions. The uniqueness can be proved by a priori estimates and the existence is obtained via a penalization method.
The paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of a strong solution to a two-dimensional backward stochastic Navier-Stokes equation with nonlinear forcing, driven by a Brownian motion. We use the spectral approximation and the truncation and variational techniques. The methodology features an interactive analysis on basis of the regularity of the deterministic Navier-Stokes dynamics and the stochastic properties of the Itô-type diffusion processes.
In this paper, we consider the solvability problems for the fully coupled forward-backward stochastic difference equations (FBSΔEs) on spaces related to discrete time, finite state processes. On one hand, we provide the necessary and sufficient condition for the solvability of the linear FBSΔEs. On the other hand, under the assumption that the coefficients satisfy the monotone condition, we investigate the existence and uniqueness theorems for the general nonlinear FBSΔEs.
We consider the following quasi-linear parabolic system of backward partial differential equations: $(\partial_t+L)u+f(\cdot,\cdot,u, \nabla uσ)=0$ on $[0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^d\qquad u_T=ϕ$, where $L$ is a possibly degenerate second order differential operator with merely measurable coefficients. We solve this system in the framework of generalized Dirichlet forms and employ the stochastic calculus associated to the Markov process with generator $L$ to obtain a probabilistic representation of the solution $u$ by solving the corresponding backward stochastic differential equation. The solution …

This paper is concerned with a class of uncertain backward stochastic differential equations (UBSDEs) driven by both an $m$-dimensional Brownian motion and a $d$-dimensional canonical process with uniform Lipschitzian coefficients. Such equations can be useful in modelling hybrid systems, where the phenomena are simultaneously subjected to two kinds of uncertainties: randomness and uncertainty. The solutions of UBSDEs are the uncertain stochastic processes. Thus, the existence and uniqueness of solutions to UBSDEs with Lipschitzian coefficients are proved.
In this paper, a probabilistic interpretation for the viscosity solution of a parabolic partial differential equation is obtained by virtue of the solution of a class of quadratic backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short). Furthermore, we prove the convergence and the large deviation principle for the solution of this class of quadratic BSDEs, which is associated with a family of Markov processes with the diffusion coefficients that tend to be zero.
In queueing theory, Lorden's inequality can be used for bounds estimation of the moments of backward and forward renewal times. Two random variables called backwards renewal time and forward renewal time for this process are defined. Lorden's inequality it's true for the renewal process, so expectations of backward and forward renewal times are bounded by the relation of expectation of moment of the random variable for any fixed moment of time, where random variables are i.i.d. We generalised and proved a similar result for dependent random variables with finite expectations, some constant C a…
