A 3-dimensional Riemannian manifold equipped with a tensor structure of type $(1,1)$, whose third power is the identity, is considered. This structure and the metric have circulant matrices with respect to some basis, i.e., these structures are circulant. An associated manifold, whose metric is expressed by both structures, is studied. Three classes of such manifolds are considered. Two of them are determined by special properties of the curvature tensor of the manifold. The third class is composed by manifolds whose structure is parallel with respect to the Levi-Civita connection of the metric. Some geometric characteristics of these manifolds are obtained. Examples of such manifolds are given.
A 4-dimensional Riemannian manifold equipped with a circulant structure, which is an isometry with respect to the metric and its fourth power is the identity, is considered. The almost product manifold associated with the considered manifold is studied. The relation between the covariant derivatives of the almost product structure and the circulant structure is obtained. The conditions for the covariant derivative of the circulant structure, which imply that an almost product manifold belongs to each of the basic classes of the Staikova-Gribachev classification, are given.
In this article, we study Einstein-Weyl structures on almost cosymplectic manifolds. First we prove that an almost cosymplectic $(κ,μ)$-manifold is Einstein or cosymplectic if it admits a closed Einstein-Weyl structure or two Einstein-Weyl structures. Next for a three dimensional compact almost $α$-cosymplectic manifold admitting closed Einstein-Weyl structures, we prove that it is Ricc-flat. Further, we show that an almost $α$-cosymplectic admitting two Einstein-Weyl structures is either Einstein or $α$-cosymplectic, provided that its Ricci tensor is commuting. Finally, we prove that a compac…
We study 4-dimensional second-Chern-Einstein almost-Hermitian manifolds. In the compact case, we observe that under a certain hypothesis the Riemannian dual of the Lee form is a Killing vector field. We use that observation to describe 4-dimensional compact second-Chern-Einstein locally conformally symplectic manifolds and we give some examples of such manifolds. Finally, we study the second-Chern-Einstein problem on unimodular almost-abelian Lie algebras, classifying those that admit a left-invariant second-Chern-Einstein metric with a parallel non-zero Lee form.
We study an odd-dimensional analogue of the Goldberg conjecture for compact Einstein almost Kähler manifolds. We give an explicit non-compact example of an Einstein almost cokähler manifold that is not cokähler. We prove that compact Einstein almost cokähler manifolds with non-negative $*$-scalar curvature are cokähler (indeed, transversely Calabi-Yau); more generally, we give a lower and upper bound for the $*$-scalar curvature in the case that the structure is not cokähler. We prove similar bounds for almost Kähler Einstein manifolds that are not Kähler.
It is a well known fact that, if $Σ$ is an Einstein hypersurface with positive scalar curvature, then it is a round sphere. We give a stable version of this result showing that if a hypersurface is almost Einstein in a $L^p$-sense, then it is $W^{2, \, p}$ - close to the round sphere. The result is given in a quantitative way.
In this article, we study almost cosymplectic manifolds admitting quasi-Einstein structures $(g, V, m, λ)$. First we prove that an almost cosymplectic $(κ,μ)$-manifold is locally isomorphic to a Lie group if $(g, V, m, λ)$ is closed and on a compact almost $(κ,μ)$-cosymplectic manifold there do not exist quasi-Einstein structures $(g, V, m, λ)$, in which the potential vector field $V$ is collinear with the Reeb vector filed $ξ$. Next we consider an almost $α$-cosymplectic manifold admitting a quasi-Einstein structure and obtain some results. Finally, for a $K$-cosymplectic manifold with a clos…
In this paper, we prove some compactness theorems of Myers, Ambrose, and Galloway for complete Riemannian manifold in the concept of $h$-almost Ricci tensors and generalized quasi-Einstein tensors. Also, we extend the previous theorems when $h$ has at most linear growth in the distance function.
In this paper the notion of Ricci $ρ$-soliton as a generalization of Ricci soliton is defined. We are motivated by the Ricci-Bourguignon flow to define this concept. We show that if a 3- dimensional almost Kenmotsu Einstein manifold $M$ be a $ρ$-soliton, then $M$ is a Kenmotsu manifold of constant sectional curvature $-1$ and the $ρ$-soliton is expanding, with $λ=2$.
Given a non compact semisimple Lie group $G$ we describe all homogeneous spaces $G/L$ carrying an invariant almost Kähler structure $(ω,J)$. When $L$ is abelian and $G$ is of classical type, we classify all such spaces which are Chern-Einstein, i.e. which satisfy $ρ= λω$ for some $λ\in\mathbb R$, where $ρ$ is the Ricci form associated to the Chern connection.
A Riemannian manifold endowed with $k>2$ orthogonal complementary distributions (called here a Riemannian almost $k$-product structure) appears in such topics as multiply warped products, the webs composed of several foliations, and proper Dupin hypersurfaces of real space-forms. In the paper, we consider the mixed scalar curvature of such structure for $k>2$, derive Euler-Lagrange equations for the Einstein-Hilbert type action with respect to adapted variations of metric, and present them in a nice form of Einstein equation.
In this article we study almost contact manifolds admitting weakly Einstein metrics. We first prove that if a (2n+1)-dimensional Sasakian manifold admits a weakly Einstein metric then its scalar curvature $s$ satisfies $-6\leqslant s \leqslant 6$ for $n=1$ and $-2n(2n+1)\frac{4n^2-4n+3}{4n^2-4n-1}\leqslant s \leqslant 2n(2n+1)$ for $n\geqslant2$. Secondly, for a (2n+1)-dimensional weakly Einstein contact metric $(κ,μ)$-manifold with $κ<1$, we prove that it is flat or is locally isomorphic to the Lie group $SU(2)$, $SL(2)$, or $E(1,1)$ for $n=1$ and that for $n\geqslant2$ there are no weakly Ei…
By Cheeger-Colding's almost splitting theorem, if a domain in a Ricci flat manifold is pointed-Gromov-Hausdorff close to a lower dimensional Euclidean domain, then there is a harmonic almost splitting map. We show that any eigenfunction of the Laplace operator is almost constant along the fibers of the almost splitting map, in the $L^2$-average sense. This generalizes an estimate of Fukaya in the case of collapsing with bounded diameter and sectional curvature.
In this paper we characterize the Einstein metrics in such broader classes of metrics as almost $η$-Ricci solitons and $η$-Ricci solitons on Kenmotsu manifolds, and generalize some results of other authors. First, we prove that a Kenmotsu metric as an $η$-Ricci soliton is Einstein metric if either it is $η$-Einstein or the potential vector field $V$ is an infinitesimal contact transformation or $V$ is collinear to the Reeb vector field. Further, we prove that if a Kenmotsu manifold admits a gradient almost $η$-Ricci soliton with a Reeb vector field leaving the scalar curvature invariant, then …
We analyze the classic problem of existence of Einstein metrics in a given conformal structure for the class of conformal structures inducedf Nurowski's construction by (oriented) (2,3,5) distributions. We characterize in two ways such conformal structures that admit an almost Einstein scale: First, they are precisely the oriented conformal structures $\mathbf{c}$ that are induced by at least two distinct oriented (2,3,5) distributions; in this case there is a 1-parameter family of such distributions that induce $\mathbf{c}$. Second, they are characterized by the existence of a holonomy reduct…
We continue our study of the mixed Einstein-Hilbert action as a functional of a pseudo-Riemannian metric and a linear connection. Its geometrical part is the total mixed scalar curvature on a smooth manifold endowed with a distribution or a foliation. We develop variational formulas for quantities of extrinsic geometry of a distribution on a metric-affine space and use them to derive Euler-Lagrange equations (which in the case of space-time are analogous to those in Einstein-Cartan theory) and to characterize critical points of this action on vacuum space-time. Together with arbitrary variatio…
Based on a general $(1+3)$ threading of the spacetime $(M,g)$, we obtain a new and simple splitting of a both the Einstein field equations (EFE) and the conservation laws in $(M,g)$. As an application we obtain the splitting of (EFE) in an almost FLRW universe with energy-momentum tensor of a perfect fluid. In particular, we state the perturbation Friedman equations in an almost FLRW universe.
This survey builds on the two surveys by Wang and Lauret written almost a decade ago to give the current state of affairs regarding homogeneous Einstein spaces.
For the geometry of oriented $(2, 3, 5)$ distributions $(M, {\mathbf D})$, which correspond to regular, normal parabolic geometries of type $(\mathrm{G}_2, P)$ for a particular parabolic subgroup $P < \mathrm{G}_2$, we develop the corresponding tractor calculus and use it to analyze the first BGG operator $Θ_0$ associated to the $7$-dimensional irreducible representation of $\mathrm{G}_2$. We give an explicit formula for the normal connection on the corresponding tractor bundle and use it to derive explicit expressions for this operator. We also show that solutions of this operator are automat…
On asymptotically complex hyperbolic (ACH) Einstein manifolds, we consider a certain variational problem for almost complex structures compatible with the metric, for which the linearized Euler-Lagrange equation at Kähler-Einstein structures is given by the Dolbeault Laplacian acting on $(0,1)$-forms with values in the holomorphic tangent bundle. A deformation result of Einstein ACH metrics associated with critical almost complex structures for this variational problem is given. It is also shown that the asymptotic expansion of a critical almost complex structure is determined by the induced (…
In this paper, we initiate the study of conformal $η$-Ricci soliton and almost conformal $η$-Ricci soliton within the framework of para-Sasakian manifold. We prove that if para-Sasakian metric admits conformal $η$-Ricci soliton, then the manifold is $η$-Einstein and either the soliton vector field $V$ is Killing or it leaves $ϕ$ invariant. Here, we have shown the characteristics of the soliton vector field $V$ and scalar curvature when the manifold admitting conformal $η$-Ricci soliton and vector field is pointwise collinear with the characteristic vector field $ξ$. Next, we show that a para-S…
A pseudo-Riemannian manifold endowed with $k>2$ orthogonal complementary distributions (called a Riemannian almost multi-product structure) appears in such topics as multiply warped products, the webs composed of several foliations, Dupin hypersurfaces and in stu\-dies of the curvature and Einstein equations. In this article, we consider the following two problems on the mixed scalar curvature of a Riemannian almost multi-product manifold with a linear connection: a) integral formulas and applications to splitting of manifolds, b) variation formulas and applications to the mixed Einstein-Hilbe…
We develop variation formulas for the quantities of extrinsic geometry for adapted variations of metrics on almost-product (e.g. foliated) Riemannian manifolds, and apply them to study the total mixed scalar curvature of a distribution -- analogue of the classical Einstein-Hilbert action. The mixed scalar curvature ${\rm S}_{\,\rm mix}$ is the averaged sectional curvature over all planes that contain vectors from both distributions of an almost-product structure and the variations we consider preserve orthogonality of the distributions. We derive the directional derivative $D J_{\,\rm mix}$ (o…
On $4$-symmetric symplectic spaces, invariant almost complex structures -- up to sign -- arise in pairs. We exhibit some $4$-symmetric symplectic spaces, with a pair of "natural" compatible (usually not positive) invariant almost complex structures, one of them being integrable and the other one being maximally non integrable (i.e. the image of its Nijenhuis tensor at any point is the whole tangent space at that point). The integrable one defines a pseudo-Kähler Einstein metric on the manifold, and the non integrable one is Ricci Hermitian (in the sense that the almost complex structure preser…
Weighted Ricci curvatures with various weights of the S-curvature have played an important role in Finsler geometry, especially in the control of volumes of Finsler manifolds. In this paper, we study general weighted Ricci curvatures, and characterize Randers metrics of almost isotropic weighted Ricci curvatures.
Reflection in a line in Euclidean 3-space defines an almost paracomplex structure on the space of all oriented lines, isometric with respect to the canonical neutral Kaehler metric. Beyond Euclidean 3-space, the space of oriented geodesics of any real 3-dimensional space form admits both isometric and anti-isometric paracomplex structures. This paper considers the existence or otherwise of isometric and anti-isometric almost paracomplex structures $j$ on a pseudo-Riemannian 4-manifold $(M,g)$, such that $j$ is parallel with respect to the Levi-Civita connection of $g$. It is shown that if an i…
Ricci-like solitons on Sasaki-like almost contact B-metric manifolds are the object of study. Cases, where the potential of the Ricci-like soliton is the Reeb vector field or pointwise collinear to it, are considered. In the former case, the properties for a parallel or recurrent Ricci-tensor are studied. In the latter case, it is shown that the potential of the considered Ricci-like soliton has a constant length and the manifold is $η$-Einstein. Other curvature conditions are also found, which imply that the main metric is Einstein. After that, some results are obtained for a parallel symmetr…
