Using light-cone gauge formulation, massive arbitrary spin irreducible fields and massless (scalar and one-half spin) fields in three-dimensional flat space are considered. Both the integer spin and half-integer spin fields are studied. For such fields, we provide classification for cubic interactions and obtain explicit expressions for all cubic interaction vertices. We study two forms of the cubic interaction vertices which we refer to as first-derivative form and higher-derivative form. All cubic interaction vertices are built by using the first-derivative form.
Cubic interactions between the simplest mixed-symmetry gauge field and gravity are constructed in anti-de Sitter (AdS) and flat backgrounds. Nonabelian cubic interactions are obtained in AdS following various perturbative methods including the Fradkin-Vasiliev construction, with and without Stueckelberg fields. The action that features the maximal number of Stueckelberg fields can be considered in the flat limit without loss of physical degrees of freedom. The resulting interactions in flat space are compared with a classification of vertices obtained via the antifield cohomological perturbati…
In this paper we construct a number of cubic interaction vertices for massless bosonic and fermionic higher spin fields in flat four dimensional space. First of all, we construct these cubic vertices in AdS_4 space using a so-called Fradkin-Vasiliev approach, which works only for the non-zero cosmological constant. Then we consider a flat limit taking care on all the higher derivative terms which FV-approach generates. We restrict ourselves with the four dimensions because this allows us to use the frame-like multispinor formalism which greatly simplifies all calculations and provides a descri…
N-extended massless arbitrary integer and half-integer spin supermultiplets in four dimensional flat space are studied in the framework of light-cone gauge formalism. For such multiplets, by using light-cone momentum superspace, we build unconstrained light-cone gauge superfield formulation. The superfield formulation is used to develop a superspace representation for all cubic interactions vertices of the N-extended massless supermultiplets. Our suitable treatment of the light-cone gauge superfields allows us to obtain attractively simple superspace representation for the cubic interaction ve…
In the framework of light-cone gauge formulation, massless arbitrary spin N=1 supermultiplets in four-dimensional flat space are considered. We study both the integer (super)spin and half-integer (super)spin supermultiplets. For such supermultiplets, formulation in terms of unconstrained light-cone gauge superfields defined on chiral momentum superspace is used. Superfield representation for all cubic interaction vertices of the supermultiplets is obtained. Representation of the cubic vertices in terms of component fields is derived. Realization of relativistic symmetries of N=1 Poincare super…
We use light-cone gauge formalism to study interacting massive and massless continuous-spin fields and finite component arbitrary spin fields propagating in the flat space. Cubic interaction vertices for such fields are considered. We obtain parity invariant cubic vertices for coupling of one continuous-spin field to two arbitrary spin fields and cubic vertices for coupling of two continuous-spin fields to one arbitrary spin field. Parity invariant cubic vertices for self-interacting massive/massless continuous-spin fields are also obtained. We find the complete list of parity invariant cubic …
Light-cone gauge formulation of relativistic dynamics of a continuous-spin field propagating in the flat space is developed. Cubic interaction vertices of continuous-spin massless fields and totally symmetric arbitrary spin massive fields are studied. We consider parity invariant cubic vertices that involve one continuous-spin massless field and two arbitrary spin massive fields and parity invariant cubic vertices that involve two continuous-spin massless fields and one arbitrary spin massive field. We construct the complete list of such vertices explicitly. Also we demonstrate that there are …
Massive and massless arbitrary integer spin fields propagating in four-dimensional flat space are studied. The massive and massless fields are treated by using a light-cone gauge helicity basis formalism. Cubic cross-interactions between massive and massless fields and cubic interactions between massive fields are investigated. We introduce a classification of such cubic interactions and using our classification we build all cubic interaction vertices. Realization of generators of the Poincare algebra on space of interacting fields is found. As a by-product, some illustrative examples of light…
In this article we study the algebra generated by the holographically reconstructed cubic couplings for the type A minimal bosonic higher-spin theory on AdS$_{d+1}$, which were recently extracted from the free scalar $O(N)$ model. We demonstrate that it is equal to the unique higher-spin algebra for bosonic totally symmetric higher-spin fields in generic dimensions. This provides an explicit check of the holographic reconstruction and of the duality between higher-spin theories and the free $O(N)$ model in general dimensions, extending the result of Giombi and Yin in AdS$_4$. For completeness,…
Using the light-cone gauge approach to relativistic field dynamics, we study arbitrary spin fermionic and bosonic fields propagating in flat space of dimension greater than or equal to four. Generating functions of parity invariant cubic interaction vertices for totally symmetric and mixed-symmetry massive and massless fields are obtained. For the case of totally symmetric fields, we derive restrictions on the allowed values of spins and the number of derivatives. These restrictions provide a complete classification of parity invariant cubic interaction vertices for totally symmetric fermionic…
We construct a range of supersymmetric cubic vertices for three massless higher spin supermultiplets in the four-dimensional space. We use frame-like multispinor formalism, which allows to avoid most of the technical difficulties and provides a uniform description for bosons and fermions. Our work is based on the so-called Fradkin-Vasiliev formalism for construction of the cubic vertices, which requires the non-zero cosmological constant. Thus we first construct the vertices in AdS space and then consider the flat limit. We show that the AdS supersymmetric vertex is a sum of four elementary ve…
We present a slightly modified prescription of the radial pullback formalism proposed previously by R. Manvelyan, R. Mkrtchyan and W. Rühl in 2012, where authors investigated possibility to connect the main term of higher spin interaction in flat $d+2$ dimensional space to the main term of interaction in $AdS_{d+1}$ space ignoring all trace and divergent terms but expressed directly through the $AdS$ covariant derivatives and including some curvature corrections. In this paper we succeeded to solve all necessary \emph{recurrence relations} to finalize full radial pullback of the main term of c…
Cubic interactions of higher-spin gauge fields in (A)dS are studied in the metric-like approach. Making use of the traceless and transverse constraints together with the ambient-space formalism, all consistent parity-invariant cubic vertices are obtained for d>3 in closed form pointing out the key role of their flat-space counterparts.
Using BRST-BV formulation of relativistic dynamics, we study arbitrary spin massive and massless fields propagating in flat space. Generating functions of gauge invariant off-shell cubic interaction vertices for mixed-symmetry and totally symmetric fields are obtained. For the case of totally symmetric fields, we derive restrictions on the allowed values of spins and the number of derivatives, which provide a classification of cubic interaction vertices for such fields. As by product, we present simple expressions for the Yang-Mills and gravitational interactions of massive totally symmetric a…
We derive a class of cubic interaction vertices for three higher spin fields, with integer spins $λ_1$, $λ_2$, $λ_3$, by closing commutators of the Poincaré algebra in four-dimensional flat spacetime. We find that these vertices exhibit an interesting factorization property which allows us to identify off-shell perturbative relations between them.
Using Noether's procedure we directly construct a complete cubic selfinteraction for the case of spin s=4 in a flat background and discuss the cubic selfinteraction for general spin s with s derivatives in the same background. The leading term of the latter interaction together with the leading gauge transformation of first field order are presented.
Based purely on symmetry considerations, we derive the following result: in momentum space, the coefficient of the cubic interaction vertex for a spin $λ$ field is equal to the corresponding Yang-Mills (spin 1) coefficient, raised to the power $λ$. This result is valid for all $λ$ for Lagrangians that contain a cubic interaction vertex of the form $λ$-$λ$-$λ$, in four-dimensional flat spacetime. For $λ=3$, we present an additional derivation of this result.
We have focused on the topological structure of Cubic string field theory (CSFT). From the similarity of action between CSFT and Chern-Simons (CS) theory in three dimensions, we have investigated the quantity ${\cal N}=π^2/3\int (UQU^{-1})^3$, which is expected to be the counterpart of winding number in CS theory. In our previous research, it was reported that $\cal N$ can only take a limited number of integer values due to the inevitable anomalies in Okawa type solution. To overcome this unsatisfactory results, we evaluate $\cal N$ and EOM against a solution itself, $\cal T$, for more general…
We apply a recently presented BRST procedure to construct the Largangian cubic vertex of higher-spin gauge field triplets interacting with massive free scalars. In flat space, the spin-s triplet propagates the series of irreducible spin-s, s-2,..,0/1 modes which couple independently to corresponding conserved currents constructed from the scalars. The simple covariantization of the flat space result is not enough in AdS, as new interaction vertices appear. We present in detail the cases of spin-2 and spin-3 triplets coupled to scalars. Restricting to a single irreducible spin-s mode we uncover…
In the framework of light-cone formulation of relativistic dynamics, arbitrary spin massless fields propagating in the four-dimensional AdS space are studied. For such fields, the complete list of light-cone gauge cubic interaction vertices is obtained. Realization of relativistic symmetries on space of light-cone gauge massless AdS fields is also obtained. The light-cone gauge vertices for massless AdS fields take simple form similar to the one for massless fields in the flat space.
We give an explicit superspace construction of higher spin conserved supercurrents built out of $4D,\mathcal{N}=1$ massless supermultiplets of arbitrary spin. These supercurrents are gauge invariant and generate a large class of cubic interactions between a massless supermultiplet with superspin $Y_1=s_1+1/2$ and two massless supermultiplets of arbitrary superspin $Y_2$. These interactions are possible only for $s_1\geq 2Y_2$. At the equality, the supercurrent acquires its simplest form and defines the supersymmetric, higher spin extension of the linearized Bel-Robinson tensor.
We consider cubic interactions of the form $s-Y-Y$ between a massless integer superspin $s$ supermultiplet and two massless arbitrary integer or half integer superspin $Y$ supermultiplets. We focus on non-minimal interactions generated by gauge invariant supercurrent multiplets which are bilinear in the superfield strength of the superspin $Y$ supermultiplet. We find two types of consistent supercurrents. The first one corresponds to conformal integer superspin $s$ supermultiplets, exist only for even values of $s, s=2\ell+2$, for arbitrary values of $Y$ and it is unique. The second one, corre…
We derive light-cone cubic interaction vertices involving fermions and bosons of arbitrary spin by demanding closure of the Poincaré algebra. We derive the three-point scattering amplitude corresponding to these interaction vertices and find that they possess interesting factorization properties, identical to the case of three boson scattering.
Totally symmetric arbitrary spin massless and massive free fields in flat and AdS spaces and conformal fields in flat space are studied. Extended gauge invariant hamiltonian action for such fields is obtained. The action is constructed out of phase space fields and Lagrange multipliers which are free of algebraic constraints. Gauge transformations of the phase space fields and Lagrange multipliers are derived. Use of the Poincare parametrization of AdS space allows us to treat fields in flat space and AdS space on equal footing.
We present results of investigation into a problem of cubic interaction vertices of massless higher spin fields which transform in arbitrary irreps of the Poincare algebra
We fulfill the detailed analysis of coupling the charged bosonic higher spin fields to external constant electromagnetic field in first order in external field strength. Cubic interaction vertex of arbitrary massive and massless bosonic higher spin fields with external field is found. Construction is based on deformation of free Lagrangian and free gauge transformations by terms linear in electromagnetic field strength. In massive case a formulation with Stueckelberg fields is used. We begin with most general form of deformations for Lagrangian and gauge transformations, admissible by Lorentz …
In this paper we begin to perform systematical investigation of all possible regimes in spatially flat vacuum cosmological models in cubic Lovelock gravity. We consider the spatial section to be a product of three- and extra-dimensional isotropic subspaces, with the former considered to be our Universe. As the equations of motion are different for $D=3, 4, 5$ and general $D \geqslant 6$ cases, we considered them all separately. Due to the quite large amount different subcases, in the current paper we consider only $D=3, 4$ cases. For each $D$ case we found values for $α$ (Gauss-Bonnet coupling…
Using the light-cone formulation of relativistic dynamics, we develop various methods for constructing cubic interaction vertices and apply these methods to the study of higher spin fields propagating in flat space of dimension greater than or equal to four. Generating functions of parity invariant cubic interaction vertices for massive and massless higher spin fields of arbitrary symmetry are obtained. We derive restrictions on the allowed values of spins and the number of derivatives, which provide a classification of cubic interaction vertices for totally symmetric fields. As an example of …
In a recent paper arXiv:1107.1872 cubic gravitational interactions for a massless mixed symmetry field in AdS space have been constructed. In the current paper we extend these results to the case of massive field. We work in a Fradkin-Vasiliev approach and use frame-like gauge invariant description for massive field which works in (A)dS spaces with arbitrary values of cosmological constant including flat Minkowski space. In this, massless limit in AdS space coincides with the results of arXiv:1107.1872 while we show that it is impossible to switch on gravitational interaction for massless fiel…
In this paper, we study four-dimensional topological black hole solutions of Einsteinian cubic gravity in the presence of nonlinear Born-Infeld electrodynamics and a bare cosmological constant. First, we obtain the field equations which govern our solutions. Employing Abbott-Deser-Tekin and Gauss formulas, we present the expressions of conserved quantities, namely total mass and total charge of our topological black solutions. We disclose the conditions under which the model is unitary and perturbatively free of ghosts with asymptotically (A)dS and flat solutions. We find that, for vanishing b…
A covariant twistor action for chiral higher-spin theory in (A)dS and flat space is constructed in terms of a holomorphic Chern-Simons theory on twistor space. The action reproduces all known cubic vertices of chiral higher-spin theory in flat space. The spacetime action of the holomorphic Chern-Simons theory in flat space is also obtained.

We present a new version of the radial reduction formalism to obtain a cubic interaction of higher spin gauge fields in $AdS_{d+1}$ space from the corresponding cubic interaction in a flat $d+2$ dimensional background. We modify the radial reduction procedure proposed previously by T. Biswas and W. Siegel in 2002 and applied to the free higher spin Lagrangian by K. Hallowell and A. Waldron in 2005. This modified radial reduction scheme is applied to interacting massless higher spin fields in Fronsdal's formulation, and all results are expressed in a direct $AdS_{d+1}$ invariant way with $AdS$ …
We investigate possible regimes in spatially flat vacuum cosmological models in cubic Lovelock gravity. The spatial section is a product of three- and extra-dimensional isotropic subspaces. This is the second paper of the series and we consider D=5 and general D>=6 cases here. For each D case we found critical values for $α$ (Gauss-Bonnet coupling) and $β$ (cubic Lovelock coupling) which separate different dynamical cases and study the dynamics in each region to find all regimes for all initial conditions and for arbitrary values of $α$ and $β$. The results suggest that for D>=3 there are regi…
In this paper we provide a complete list of spin-2 cubic interaction vertices with two derivatives. We work in (anti) de Sitter space with dimension d >= 4 and arbitrary value of cosmological constant and use simple metric formalism without any auxiliary or Stueckelberg fields. We separately consider cases with one, two and three different spin-2 fields entering the vertex where each field may be massive, massless or partially massless one. The connection of our results with massive (bi)gravity theories is also briefly discussed.
We construct a new covariant action for "flat" self-dual gravity in four spacetime dimensions. The action has just one term, but when expanded around an appropriate background gives rise to a kinetic term and a cubic interaction. Upon imposing the light-cone gauge, the action reproduces the expected chiral interaction of Siegel. The new action is in many ways analogous to the known covariant action for self-dual Yang-Mills theory. There is also a sense in which the new self-dual gravity action exhibits the double copy of self-dual Yang-Mills structure.
Massive arbitrary spin supermultiplets and massless (scalar and spin one-half) supermultiplets of the N=2 Poincare superalgebra in three-dimensional flat space are considered. Both the integer spin and half-integer spin supermultiplets are studied. For such massive and massless supermultiplets, a formulation in terms of light-cone gauge unconstrained superfields defined in a momentum superspace is developed. For the supermultiplets under consideration a superspace first derivative representation for all cubic interaction vertices is obtained. A superspace representation for dynamical generator…
We study the cubic vertices for Maxwell-like higher-spins in flat and (A)dS background spaces of any dimension. Reducibility of their free spectra implies that a single cubic vertex involving any three fields subsumes a number of couplings among different particles of various spins. The resulting vertices do not involve traces of the fields and in this sense are simpler than their Fronsdal counterparts. We propose an extension of both the free theory and of its cubic deformation to a more general class of partially reducible systems, that one can obtain from the original theory upon imposing t…
We develop the perturbation theory of double field theory around arbitrary solutions of its field equations. The exact gauge transformations are written in a manifestly background covariant way and contain at most quadratic terms in the field fluctuations. We expand the generalized curvature scalar to cubic order in fluctuations and thereby determine the cubic action in a manifestly background covariant form. As a first application we specialize this theory to group manifold backgrounds, such as $SU(2) \simeq S^3$ with $H$-flux. In the full string theory this corresponds to a WZW background CF…
We propose a method of construction of a cubic interaction in massless Higher Spin gauge theory both in flat and in AdS space-times of arbitrary dimensions. We consider a triplet formulation of the Higher Spin gauge theory and generalize the Higher Spin symmetry algebra of the free model to the corresponding algebra for the case of cubic interaction. The generators of this new algebra carry indexes which label the three Higher Spin fields involved into the cubic interaction. The method is based on the use of oscillator formalism and on the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) technique. We derive …
We study a consistent deformation of the cubic open bosonic string theory in such a way that the non-planar world sheet diagrams of the perturbative string theory are mapped onto their equivalent planar diagrams of the light-cone string field theory with some length parameters fixed. An explicit evaluation of the cubic string vertex in the zero-slope limit yields the correct relationship between the string coupling constant and the Yang-Mills coupling constant. The deformed cubic open string field theory is shown to produce the non-Abelian Yang-Mills action in the zero-slope limit if it is def…
Cubic couplings between a complex scalar field and a tower of symmetric tensor gauge fields of all ranks are investigated on any constant curvature spacetime of dimension d>2. Following Noether's method, the gauge fields interact with the scalar field via minimal coupling to the conserved currents. A symmetric conserved current, bilinear in the scalar field and containing up to r derivatives, is obtained for any rank r from its flat spacetime counterpart in dimension d+1, via a radial dimensional reduction valid precisely for the mass-square domain of unitarity in (anti) de Sitter spacetime of…

We classify all the six derivative Lagrangians of gravity, whose traced field equations are of second or third order, in arbitrary dimensions. In the former case, the Lagrangian in dimensions greater than six, reduces to an arbitrary linear combination of the six dimensional Euler density and the two linearly independent cubic Weyl invariants. In five dimensions, besides the independent cubic Weyl invariant, we obtain an interesting cubic combination, whose field equations for static spherically symmetric spacetimes are of second order. In the later case, in arbitrary dimensions we obtain two …
Generating functions encoding cubic interactions of (partially-)massless higher-spin fields are provided within the ambient-space formalism. They satisfy a system of higher-order partial differential equations that can be explicitly solved due to their factorized form. We find that the number of consistent couplings increases whenever the squares of the field masses take some integer values (in units of the cosmological constant) and satisfy certain conditions. Moreover, it is shown that only the supplemental solutions can give rise to non-Abelian deformations of the gauge symmetries. The pres…
The classical dynamics of the tachyon scalar field of cubic string field theory is considered on a cosmological background. Starting from a nonlocal action with arbitrary tachyon potential, which encodes the bosonic and several supersymmetric cases, we study the equations of motion in the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism and with a generalized Friedmann equation, appliable in braneworld or modified gravity models. The cases of cubic (bosonic) and quartic (supersymmetric) tachyon potential in general relativity are automatically included. We comment the validity of the slow-roll approximation, the sta…
