This is the second of a series of papers where we study the plurigenera, the Kodaira dimension and the Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. By using the pseudoholomorphic pluricanonical map, we define the second version of Kodaira dimension as well as Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. We show the almost complex structures with the top Kodaira dimension are integrable. For compact almost complex 4-manifolds with Kodaira dimension one, we obtain elliptic fibration like structural description. Some vanishing theorems in complex geometry are generalized to the almost complex setting.
For tamed symplectic $4$-manifolds, we show that the almost Kodaira dimension is bounded above by the symplectic Kodaira dimension, by using a probabilistic combinatorics style argument. The appendix also contains a few results including answering a question of the second author that there is a unique subvariety in exceptional curve classes for irrational symplectic $4$-manifolds, as well as extending Evans-Smith's constraint on symplectic embeddings of certain rational homology balls by removing the assumption on the intersection form.
This is the first of a series of papers, in which we study the plurigenera, the Kodaira dimension and more generally the Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. Based on the Hodge theory on almost complex manifolds, we introduce the plurigenera, Kodaira dimension and Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. We show that the plurigenera and the Kodaira dimension as well as the irregularity are birational invariants in almost complex category, at least in dimension $4$, where a birational morphism is defined to be a degree one pseudoholomorphic map. However, they are n…
The aim of this paper is to continue the study of Kodaira dimension for almost complex manifolds, focusing on the case of compact $4$-dimensional solvmanifolds without any integrable almost complex structure. According to the classification theory we consider: $\mathfrak{r}\mathfrak{r}_{3, -1}$, $\mathfrak{nil}^4$ and $\mathfrak{r}_{4, λ, -(1 + λ)}$ with $-1 < λ< -\frac{1}{2}$. For the first solvmanifold we introduce special families of almost complex structures, compute the corresponding Kodaira dimension and show that it is no longer a deformation invariant. Moreover we prove Ricci flatness …
We show that the almost complex Hodge number $h^{0,1}$ varies with different choices of almost Kähler metrics. This answers the almost Kähler version of a question of Kodaira and Spencer.
The notion of Kodaira dimension has recently been extended to general almost complex manifolds. In this paper we focus on the Kodaira dimension of almost Kähler manifolds, providing an explicit computation for a family of almost Kähler threefolds on the differentiable manifold underlying a Nakamura manifold. We concentrate also on the link between Kodaira dimension and the curvature of the canonical connection of an almost Kähler manifold, and show that in the previous example (and in another one obtained from a Kodaira surface) the Ricci curvature of the almost Kähler metric vanishes for all …
It is known that generalized deformation in the sense of Hitchin-Gaultieri is a geometric realization of the degree-2 component of Kontsevich-Barannikov's homological approach to extended deformation. Through extended deformation, one associates a Frobenius structure to the extended moduli space. In this notes, we prove that on primary Kodaira manifolds the restriction of the Frobenius structure on the degree-2 component of the extended moduli space is trivial. It generalizes the author's past observation on Kodaira surface.
We introduce an effective method to solve the $\bar\partial$-harmonic forms on the Kodaira-Thurston manifold endowed with an almost complex structure and an Hermitian metric. Using the Weil-Brezin transform, we reduce the elliptic PDE system to countably many linear ODE systems. By solving a fundamental problem on linear ODE systems, the problem of finding $\bar\partial$-harmonic forms is equivalent to a generalised Gauss circle problem. We demonstrate two remarkable applications. First, the dimension of the almost complex $\bar\partial$-Hodge numbers on the Kodaira-Thurston manifold could be …
Let $X$ be an orientable compact Levi-flat CR manifold and let $L$ be a positive CR complex line bundle over $X$. We prove that certain microlocal conjugations of the associated Szegő kernel admits an asymptotic expansion with respect to high powers of $L$. As an application, we give a Szegő kernel proof of the Kodaira type embedding theorem on Levi-flat CR manifolds due to Ohsawa and Sibony.
In this paper, we consider Kahler-Ricci flow on n-dimensional Kahler manifold with semi-ample canonical line bundle and 0< m:= Kod(X)<n. Such manifolds admit a Calabi-Yau fibration over its canonical model. We prove that the scalar curvature of the Kahler metric along the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow converge to -m outside the singular set of this fibration.
We prove that a compact Hermitian manifold with semi-positive but not identically zero holomorphic sectional curvature has Kodaira dimension $-\infty$. As applications, we show that Kodaira surfaces and hyperelliptic surfaces can not admit Hermitian metrics with semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature although they have nef tangent bundles.
Kodaira embedding theorem provides an effective characterization of projectivity of a Kähler manifold in terms the second cohomology. Recently X. Yang [21] proved that any compact Kähler manifold with positive holomorphic sectional curvature must be projective. This gives a metric criterion of the projectivity in terms of its curvature. In this note, we prove that any compact Kähler manifold with positive 2nd scalar curvature (which is the average of holomorphic sectional curvature over 2-dimensional subspaces of the tangent space) must be projective. In view of generic 2-tori being non-abelia…
We consider a compact connected CR manifold with a transversal CR locally free $\mathbb R$-action endowed with a rigid positive CR line bundle. We prove that a certain weighted Fourier-Szegő kernel of the CR sections in the high tensor powers admits a full asymptotic expansion and we establish $\mathbb R$-equivariant Kodaira embedding theorem for CR manifolds. Using similar methods we also establish an analytic proof of an $\mathbb R$-equivariant Boutet de Monvel embedding theorem for strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. In particular, we obtain equivariant embedding theorems for irregular Sasa…
In this expository article, we outline the theory of harmonic differential forms and its consequences. We provide self-contained proofs of the following important results in differential geometry: (1) Hodge theorem, which states that for a compact complex manifold, the de Rham cohomology group is isomorphic to the group of harmonic forms, (2) Hodge decomposition theorem, which states that for a Kähler manifold, the de Rham cohomology group decomposes into the Dolbeault cohomology groups, and (3) The Kodaira Embedding theorem, which gives a criterion of when a compact complex manifold is in fac…
We introduce an axiomatic definition for the Kodaira dimension and classify Thurston geometries in dimensions $\leq 5$ in terms of this Kodaira dimension. We show that the Kodaira dimension is monotone with respect to the partial order defined by maps of non-zero degree between 5-manifolds. We study the compatibility of our definition with traditional notions of Kodaira dimension, especially the highest possible Kodaira dimension. To this end, we establish a connection between the simplicial volume and the holomorphic Kodaira dimension, which in particular implies that any smooth Kähler 3-fold…
For any integer $k$ we construct an explicit example of a twistor space which contains a one--parameter family of jumping rational curves, where the normal bundle changes from $O(1)+O(1)$ to $O(k)+O(2-k)$. For $k>3$ the resulting anti--self--dual Ricci-flat manifold is a Zariski cone in the space of holomorphic sections of $O(k)$. In the case $k=2$ we recover the canonical example of Hitchin's folded hyper-Kahler manifold, where the jumping lines form a three--parameter family. We show that in this case there exist normalisable solutions to the Schrodinger equation which extend through the fol…
An old theorem of Weil and Kodaira says that for a compact Kähler manifold $X$ there is a closed logarithmic $1$-form with residue divisor $D$ if and only if $D$ is homologous to zero in $H_{2n-2}(X,\mathbb C)$. In the first part of this paper, we generalize the above theorem to general compact complex manifolds by showing that the necessary and sufficient condition in general is described by a holomorphic invariant called the $\mathcal Q$-flat class. Next, we prove that the holomorphic criterion is reduced to the topological one when $X$ has Property $(H)$. Since all Kähler manifolds have Pro…
We study several questions involving relative Ricci-flat Kähler metrics for families of log Calabi-Yau manifolds. Our main result states that if $p:(X,B)\to Y$ is a Kähler fiber space such that $\displaystyle (X_y, B|_{X_y})$ is generically klt, $K_{X/Y}+B$ is relatively trivial and $p_*(m(K_{X/Y}+B))$ is Hermitian flat for some suitable integer $m$, then $p$ is locally trivial. Motivated by questions in birational geometry, we investigate the regularity of the relative singular Ricci-flat Kähler metric corresponding to a family $p:(X,B)\to Y$ of klt pairs $(X_y,B_y)$ such that $κ(K_{X_y}+B_y)…
Given a compact quantizable pseudo-Kähler manifold $(M,ω)$ of constant signature, there exists a Hermitian line bundle $(L,h)$ over $M$ with curvature $-2πi\,ω$. We shall show that the asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernels for $L^{\otimes k}$-valued $(0,q)$-forms implies more or less immediately a number of analogues of well-known results, such as Kodaira embedding theorem and Tian's almost-isometry theorem.
Iwasawa manifold is a compact complex homogeneous manifold isomorphic to a quotient of the group of complex unipotent $3 \times 3$ matrices by a cocompact lattice. We prove that any compact complex curve in an Iwasawa manifold is contained in a holomorphic torus. We also prove that any Kähler surface in an Iwasawa manifold is either an abelian surface or a non-projective isotrivial elliptic surface of Kodaira dimension one. In the Appendix we show that any complex torus in an Iwasawa manifold carries complex multiplication.
