The dynamical properties of the invasion percolation on the square lattice are investigated with emphasis on the geometrical properties on the growing cluster of infected sites. The exterior frontier of this cluster forms a critical loop ensemble (CLE), whose length $(l)$, the radius $(r)$ and also roughness $(w)$ fulfill the finite size scaling hypothesis. The dynamical fractal dimension of the CLE defined as the exponent of the scaling relation between $l$ and $r$ is estimated to be $D_f=1.81\pm0.02$. By studying the autocorrelation functions of these quantities we show importantly that there is a crossover between two time regimes, in which these functions change behavior from power-law at the small times, to exponential decay at long times. In the vicinity of this crossover time, these functions are estimated by log-normal functions. We also show that the increments of the considered statistical quantities, which are related to the random forces governing the dynamics of the observables undergo an anticorrelation/correlation transition at the time that the crossover takes place.
We study the optimized version of the multiple invasion percolation model. Some topological aspects as the behavior of the acceptance profile, coordination number and vertex type abundance were investigated and compared to those of the ordinary invasion. Our results indicate that the clusters show a very high degree of connectivity, spoiling the usual nodes-links-blobs geometrical picture.
We show that the introduction of thermal noise in Invasion Percolation (IP) brings the system outside the critical point. This result suggests a possible definition of SOC systems as ordinary critical systems where the critical point correspond to set to 0 one of the parameters. We recover both IP and EDEN model, for $T \to 0$, and $T \to \infty$ respectively. For small $T$ we find a dynamical second order transition with correlation length diverging when $T \to 0$.
A new kind of invasion percolation is introduced in order to take into account the inertia of the invader fluid. The inertia strength is controlled by the number N of pores (or steps) invaded after the perimeter rupture. The new model belongs to a different class of universality with the fractal dimensions of the percolating clusters depending on N. A blocking phenomenon takes place in two dimensions. It imposes an upper bound value on N. For pore sizes larger than the critical threshold, the acceptance profile exhibits a permanent tail.
The shape of two-dimensional invasion percolation clusters are studied numerically for both non-trapping (NTIP) and trapping (TIP) invasion percolation processes. Two different anisotropy quantifiers, the anisotropy parameter and the asphericity are used for probing the degree of anisotropy of clusters. We observe that in spite of the difference in scaling properties of NTIP and TIP, there is no difference in the values of anisotropy quantifiers of these processes. Furthermore, we find that in completely random media, the invasion percolation clusters are on average slightly less isotropic tha…
We study the cluster, the backbone and the elastic backbone structures of the multiple invasion percolation for both the perimeter and the optimized versions. We investigate the behavior of the mass, the number of red sites (i. e., sites through which all the current passes) and loops of those structures. Their corresponding scaling exponents are also estimated. By construction, the mass of the optimized model scales exactly with the gyration radius of the cluster - we verify that this also happens to the backbone. Our simulation shows that the red sites almost disappear, indicating that the c…
We suggest that the dynamics of stable viscous invasion fronts in porous media depends on the volume capacitance of the media. At high volume capacitance, our network simulations provide numerical evidence of a scaling relation between the front width and its velocity. In the low volume capacitance regime, we derive a new effective scaling supported by network simulations and is in agreement with previous experiments on imbibition in paper and collections of glass beads.
In this paper we study the properties of the Barabási model of queueing under the hypothesis that the number of tasks is steadily growing in time. We map this model exactly onto an Invasion Percolation dynamics on a Cayley tree. This allows to recover the correct waiting time distribution $P_W(τ)\sim τ^{-3/2}$ at the stationary state (as observed in different realistic data) and also to characterize it as a sequence of causally and geometrically connected bursts of activity. We also find that the approach to stationarity is very slow.
We investigate the process of invasion percolation between two sites (injection and extraction sites) separated by a distance r in two-dimensional lattices of size L. Our results for the non-trapping invasion percolation model indicate that the statistics of the mass of invaded clusters is significantly dependent on the local occupation probability (pressure) Pe at the extraction site. For Pe=0, we show that the mass distribution of invaded clusters P(M) follows a power-law P(M) ~ M^{-α} for intermediate values of the mass M, with an exponent α=1.39. When the local pressure is set to Pe=Pc, wh…
In this paper, we investigate the invasion percolation (IP) in imperfect support in which the configuration of imperfections is considered to be correlated. Three lattice models were engaged to realize this pattern: site percolation, Ising model and random Coulomb potential (RCP). The first two models are short range interaction (SRI), whereas the last one includes coulomb like interactions which is pretty long range (long-range interactions, LRI). By examining various dynamical observables we show that the critical exponents of SRI IP are robust against the control parameters (temperature in …
In this paper we consider the structure of site percolation models on three-dimensional square lattices with various shapes of (1,d)-neighborhood. For these models, are proposed iso- and anisotropic modifications of the invasion percolation algorithm with (1,0)- and (1,d)-neighborhoods. All the above algorithms are special cases of the anisotropic invasion percolation algorithm on the n-dimensional lattice with a (1,d)-neighborhood. This algorithm is the basis for the package SPSL, released under GNU GPL-3 using the free programming language R.
We investigate the crossover properties of the frustrated percolation model on a two-dimensional square lattice, with asymmetric distribution of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. We determine the critical exponents nu, gamma and beta of the percolation transition of the model, for various values of the density of antiferromagnetic interactions pi in the range 0<pi<0.5. Our data are consistent with the existence of a crossover from random percolation behavior for pi=0, to frustrated percolation behavior, characterized by the critical exponents of the ferromagnetic 1/2-state Pott…
The main purpose of this work is to simulate two-phase flow in the form of immiscible displacement through anisotropic, three-dimensional (3D) discrete fracture networks (DFN). The considered DFNs are artificially generated, based on a general distribution function or are conditioned on measured data from deep geological investigations. We introduce several modifications to the invasion percolation (MIP) to incorporate fracture inclinations, intersection lines, as well as the hydraulic path length inside the fractures. Additionally a trapping algorithm is implemented that forbids any advance o…
Motivated by recent experiments, we investigate the scattering properties of percolation clusters generated by numerical simulations on a three dimensional cubic lattice. Individual clusters of given size are shown to present a fractal structure up to a scale of order their extent, even far away from the percolation threshold $p_c$. The influence of inter-cluster correlations on the structure factor of assemblies of clusters selected by an invasion phenomenon is studied in detail. For invasion from bulk germs, we show that the scattering properties are determined by three length scales, the co…
We use invasion percolation to compute highly-accurate numerical values for bond and site percolation thresholds p_c on the hypercubic lattice Z^d for d = 4,,,,,13. We also compute the Fisher exponent tau governing the cluster size distribution at criticality. Our results support the claim that the mean-field value tau = 5/2 holds for d >= 6, with logarithmic corrections to power-law scaling at d=6.
Hierarchical lattices that constitute spatially anisotropic systems are introduced. These lattices provide exact solutions for hierarchical models and, simultaneously, approximate solutions for uniaxially or fully anisotropic d=3 physical models. The global phase diagrams, with d=2 and d=1 to d=3 crossovers, are obtained for Ising, XY magnetic models and percolation systems, including crossovers from algebraic order to true long-range order.
Recently Dantas, Oliveira and Stilck [J. Stat. Mech. (2007) P08009] studied how the one-dimensional diffusive contact process crosses over from the critical behavior of directed percolation to an effective mean field behaviour when the diffusion rate is sent to infinity. They showed that this crossover can be described in terms of a crossover exponent $ϕ$, finding the boundaries 3 <= $ϕ$ <= 4 in one spatial dimension. In the present work we refine and extend this result up to four spatial dimensions by a field-theoretic calculation and extensive numerical simulations.
Crossover behaviors from the pair contact process with diffusion (PCPD) and the driven PCPD (DPCPD) to the directed percolation (DP) are studied in one dimension by introducing a single particle annihilation/branching dynamics. The crossover exponents $ϕ$ are estimated numerically as $1/ϕ\simeq 0.58\pm0.03$ for the PCPD and $1/ϕ\simeq 0.49 \pm 0.02$ for the DPCPD. Nontriviality of the PCPD crossover exponent strongly supports non-DP nature of the PCPD critical scaling, which is further evidenced by the anomalous critical amplitude scaling near the PCPD point. In addition, we find that the DPCP…
We consider the statistical properties of arrival times and balls on first-passage percolation (FPP) $2D$ square lattices with strong disorder in the link-times. A previous work showed a crossover in the weak disorder regime, between Gaussian and Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality, with the crossover length decreasing as the noise amplitude grows. On the other hand, this work presents a very different behavior in the strong-disorder regime. A new crossover length appears below which the model is described by bond-percolation universality class. This characteristic length scale grows with t…
A random growth lattice filling model of percolation with touch and stop growth rule is developed and studied numerically on a two dimensional square lattice. Nucleation centers are continuously added one at a time to the empty sites and the clusters are grown from these nucleation centers with a tunable growth probability g. As the growth probability g is varied from 0 to 1 two distinct regimes are found to occur. For g\le 0.5, the model exhibits continuous percolation transitions as ordinary percolation whereas for g\ge 0.8 the model exhibits discontinuous percolation transitions. The discon…
We study the contact process on spatially embedded networks, consisting of a regular square lattice with long-range connections. To generate the networks, a long-range connection is randomly added to each node $i$ of a square lattice, following the probability, $P_{ij}\sim{r_{ij}^{-α}}$ , where $r_{ij}$ is the Manhattan distance between nodes $i$ and $j$, and the exponent $α$ is a tunable parameter. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations and a finite-size scaling analysis for different values of $α$ reveal a crossover from the mean-field to $2d$ Directed Percolation universality class with increasi…
We numerically study the Loewner driving function U_t of a site percolation cluster boundary on the triangular lattice for p<p_c. It is found that U_t shows a drifted random walk with a finite crossover time. Within this crossover time, the averaged driving function < U_t> shows a scaling behavior -(p_c-p) t^{(ν+1)/2ν} with a superdiffusive fluctuation whereas, beyond the crossover time, the driving function U_t undergoes a normal diffusion with Hurst exponent 1/2 but with the drift velocity proportional to (p_c-p)^ν, where ν= 4/3 is the critical exponent for two-dimensional percolation correl…
We investigate the influence of the range of interactions in the two-dimensional bond percolation model, by means of Monte Carlo simulations. We locate the phase transitions for several interaction ranges, as expressed by the number $z$ of equivalent neighbors. We also consider the $z \to \infty$ limit, i.e., the complete graph case, where percolation bonds are allowed between each pair of sites, and the model becomes mean-field-like. All investigated models with finite $z$ are found to belong to the short-range universality class. There is no evidence of a tricritical point separating the sho…
At non-equilibrium phase transitions into absorbing (trapped) states, it is well known that the directed percolation (DP) critical scaling is shared by two classes of models with a single (S) absorbing state and with infinitely many (IM) absorbing states. We study the crossover behavior in one dimension, arising from a considerable reduction of the number of absorbing states (typically from the IM-type to the S-type DP models), by following two different (excitatory or inhibitory) routes which make the auxiliary field density abruptly jump at the crossover. Along the excitatory route, the syst…
We consider numerically the crossover scaling behavior from the directed percolation universality class to the compact directed percolation universality class within the one-dimensional Domany-Kinzel cellular automaton. Our results are compared to those of a recently performed field theoretical approach. In particular, the value of the crossover exponent phi=2 is confirmed.
We study loop erased random walk (LERW) on the percolation cluster, with occupation probability $p\geq p_c$, in two and three dimensions. We find that the fractal dimensions of LERW$_p$ is close to normal LERW in Euclidean lattice, for all $p>p_c$. However our results reveal that LERW on critical incipient percolation clusters is fractal with $d_{f}=1.217\pm0.0015$ for d = 2 and $1.44\pm0.03$ for d = 3, independent of the coordination number of the lattice. These values are consistent with the known values for optimal path exponents in strongly disordered media. We investigate how the behavior…
Spin-crossover compounds, which are characterized by magnetic ions showing low-spin and high-spin states at thermally accessible energies, are ubiquitous in nature. We here focus on the effect of an exchange interaction on the collective properties for the case of non-magnetic low-spin ions, which applies to Fe(II) compounds. Monte Carlo simulations are used to study a three-dimensional spin-crossover model for the full parameter range from essentially pure high spin to essentially pure low spin. We find that as the low-spin state becomes more favorable, the Curie temperature drops, the univer…
Scaling nature of absorbing critical phenomena is well understood for the directed percolation (DP) and the directed Ising (DI) systems. However, a full analysis of the crossover behavior is still lacking, which is of our interest in this study. There are three different routes from the DI to the DP classes by introducing a symmetry breaking field (SB), breaking a modulo 2 conservation (CB), or making channels connecting two equivalent absorbing states (CC). Each route can be characterized by a crossover exponent, which is found numerically as $ϕ=2.1\pm 0.1$ (SB), $4.6\pm 0.2$ (CB), and $2.9\p…
We generalize the directed percolation (DP) model by relaxing the strict directionality of DP such that propagation can occur in either direction but with anisotropic probabilities. We denote the probabilities as $p_{\downarrow}= p \cdot p_d$ and $p_{\uparrow}=p \cdot (1-p_d)$, with $p $ representing the average occupation probability and $p_d$ controlling the anisotropy. The Leath-Alexandrowicz method is used to grow a cluster from an active seed site. We call this model with two main growth directions {\em biased directed percolation} (BDP). Standard isotropic percolation (IP) and DP are the…
By employing the methods of renormalized field theory we show that the percolation behavior of random resistor-diode networks near the multicritical line belongs to the universality class of isotropic percolation. We construct a mesoscopic model from the general epidemic process by including a relevant isotropy-breaking perturbation. We present a two-loop calculation of the crossover exponent $ϕ$. Upon blending the $ε$-expansion result with the exact value $ϕ=1$ for one dimension by a rational approximation, we obtain for two dimensions $ϕ= 1.29\pm 0.05$. This value is in agreement with the re…
In a recent work, Dantas and Stilck studied a model that generalizes the contact process model with diffusion. Our approach, based on the supercritical expansion, showed that for a weak diffusion regime the crossover exponent between the directed percolation and compact directed percolation universality classes was $ϕ\approx 2$. However this approach did not work for reduced diffusion rates higher than $D\approx 0.3$, where $0\leq D\leq 1$ and D=1 corresponds to an infinite diffusion rate. Thus, in the present work we estimate this crossover exponent for higher diffusion rates using a numerica…
The crossover behavior of various models exhibiting phase transition to absorbing phase with parity conserving class has been investigated by numerical simulations and cluster mean-field method. In case of models exhibiting Z_2 symmetric absorbing phases (the NEKIMCA and Grassberger's A stochastic cellular automaton) the introduction of an external symmetry breaking field causes a crossover to kink parity conserving models characterized by dynamical scaling of the directed percolation (DP) and the crossover exponent: 1/ϕ~ 0.53(2). In case an even offspringed branching and annihilating random w…
When conducting bonds are occupied randomly in a two-dimensional square lattice, the conductivity of the system increases continuously as the density of those conducting bonds exceeds the percolation threshold. Such a behavior is well known in percolation theory; however, the conductivity behavior has not been studied yet when the percolation transition is discontinuous. Here we investigate the conductivity behavior through a discontinuous percolation model evolving under a suppressive external bias. Using effective medium theory, we analytically calculate the conductivity behavior as a functi…
We consider a generalization of the contact process stochastic model, including an additional autocatalitic process. The phase diagram of this model in the proper two-parameter space displays a line of transitions between an active and an absorbing phase which starts at the critical point of the contact process and ends at the transition point of the voter model. Thus, a crossover between the directed percolation and the compact percolation universality classes is observed at this latter point. We study this crossover by a variety of techniques. Using supercritical series expansions analyzed w…
We report on a possible crossover of a non universal quantity at the upper critical dimensionality in the field of percolation. Plotting recent estimates for site percolation thresholds of hypercubes in dimension 6< d< 13 against corresponding predictions from the GM formula p_c=p_0 [ (d-1)(q-1) ]^{-a} d^b for percolation thresholds, a significant departure of p_c is observed for d> 6. This result is reminiscent of the crossover undergone by universal quantities in critical phenomena. For bond percolation, the evidence of such a crossover of dimensionality would require an improvement of the G…
A generalization of the Renormalization Group, which describes order-parameter fluctuations in finite systems, is developed in the specific context of percolation. This ``Stochastic Renormalization Group'' (SRG) expresses statistical self-similarity through a non-stationary branching process. The SRG provides a theoretical basis for analytical or numerical approximations, both at and away from criticality, whenever the correlation length is much larger than the lattice spacing (regardless of the system size). For example, the SRG predicts order-parameter distributions and finite-size scaling f…
It is shown that the universal critical properties of two recently introduced coupled directed percolation processes can be described by a single rapidity reversal invariant stochastic reaction-diffusion model. It is demonstrated that all renormalizations needed for the calculation of the universal scaling behavior near the multicritical point can be gained from the Gribov process (Reggeon field theory). Consequently the crossover exponent describing the scaling of the linear coupling parameter is given by Phi = 1 to all orders of the perturbation expansion.
In this work we use the technique of the partial differential approximants to determine, from a pertubative supercritical series expansion for the ulimate survival probability, the critical line of the contact process model in one dimension with diffusion and estimate the value of the crossover exponent that characterizes the change of the critical behavior from the 1d directed percolation universality class to the mean-field directed percolation universality class. This crossover occurs in the limit of infinite diffusion rate.
In this article, we illustrate how the qualitative phase diagram of a gauge theory coupled to matter can be directly proved and how rigorous numerical bounds may be established. Our work reaffirms the seminal result of Fradkin and Shenker from another vista. Our main ingredient is the combined use of the self-duality of the three dimensional Z2/Z2 theory and an extended Lee-Yang theorem. We comment on extensions of these ideas and firmly establish the existence of a sharp crossover line in the two dimensional Z2/Z2 theory.
We postulate the existence of a natural Poissonian marking of the double (touching) points of SLE(6) and hence of the related continuum nonsimple loop process that describes macroscopic cluster boundaries in 2D critical percolation. We explain how these marked loops should yield continuum versions of near-critical percolation, dynamical percolation, minimal spanning trees and related plane filling curves, and invasion percolation. We show that this yields for some of the continuum objects a conformal covariance property that generalizes the conformal invariance of critical systems. It is an op…
We use invasion percolation to compute numerical values for bond and site percolation thresholds $p_c$ (existence of an infinite cluster) and $p_u$ (uniqueness of the infinite cluster) of tesselations $\{P,Q\}$ of the hyperbolic plane, where $Q$ faces meet at each vertex and each face is a $P$-gon. Our values are accurate to six or seven decimal places, allowing us to explore their functional dependency on $P$ and $Q$ and to numerically compute critical exponents. We also prove rigorous upper and lower bounds for $p_c$ and $p_u$ that can be used to find the scaling of both thresholds as a func…
The nonconcensus opinion model (NCO) introduced recently by Shao et al., [Phys. Rev. Lett.103, 018701 (2009)] is solved exactly on the line. Although, as expected, the model exhibits no phase transition in one dimension, its study is interesting because of the connection with invasion percolation with trapping. The system evolves exponentially fast to the steady-state, rapidly developing long-range correlations: The average cluster size in the steady state scales as the square of the initial cluster size, of the (uncorrelated) initial state. We also discuss briefly the NCO model on Bethe latti…
Based on the invasion percolation model, a lattice model for the sweeping interface dynamics is constructed to describe the pattern forming process by a sweeping interface upon drying the water-granule mixture. The model is shown to produce labyrinthine patterns similar to those found in the experiment[Yamazaki and Mizuguchi, J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. \textbf{69} (2000) 2387]. Upon changing the initial granular density, resulting patterns undergo the percolation transition, but estimated critical exponents are different from those of the conventional percolation. Loopless structure of clusters in the…
We study a model that generalizes the CP with diffusion. An additional transition is included in the model so that at a particular point of its phase diagram a crossover from the directed percolation to the compact directed percolation class will happen. We are particularly interested in the effect of diffusion on the properties of the crossover between the universality classes. To address this point, we develop a supercritical series expansion for the ultimate survival probability and analyse this series using d-log Padé and partial differential approximants. We also obtain approximate soluti…
Unified theory for the scaling of the crossover between strong and weak disorder behaviors of optimal paths and directed/undirected polymers in disordered media
We introduce a stochastic sandpile model where finite drive and dissipation are coupled to the activity field. The absorbing phase transition here, as expected, belongs to the directed percolation (DP) universality class. We focus on the small drive and dissipation limit, i.e. the so-called self-organised critical (SOC) regime and show that the system exhibits a crossover from ordinary DP scaling to a dissipation-controlled scaling which is independent of the underlying dynamics or spatial dimension. The new scaling regime continues all the way to the zero bulk drive limit suggesting that the …

Consider $N$ points randomly distributed along a line segment of unitary length. A walker explores this disordered medium moving according to a partially self-avoiding deterministic walk. The walker, with memory $μ$, leaves from the leftmost point and moves, at each discrete time step, to the nearest point which has not been visited in the preceding $μ$ steps. Using open boundary conditions, we have calculated analytically the probability $P_N(μ) = (1 - 2^{-μ})^{N - μ- 1}$ that all $N$ points are visited, with $N \gg μ\gg 1$. This approximated expression for $P_N(μ)$ is reasonable even for sma…
We study the scaling properties of the solid-on-solid front of the infinite cluster in two-dimensional gradient percolation. We show that such an object is self affine with a Hurst exponent equal to 2/3 up to a cutoff-length proportional to the gradient to the power (-4/7). Beyond this length scale, the front position has the character of uncorrelated noise. Importantly, the self-affine behavior is robust even after removing local jumps of the front. The previously observed multi affinity, is due to the dominance of overhangs at small distances in the structure function. This is a crossover ef…
We introduce a new class of two-dimensional cellular automata with a bootstrap percolation-like dynamics. Each site can be either empty or occupied by a single particle and the dynamics follows a deterministic updating rule at discrete times which allows only emptying sites. We prove that the threshold density $ρ_c$ for convergence to a completely empty configuration is non trivial, $0<ρ_c<1$, contrary to standard bootstrap percolation. Furthermore we prove that in the subcritical regime, $ρ<ρ_c$, emptying always occurs exponentially fast and that $ρ_c$ coincides with the critical density for …
