Scaling nature of absorbing critical phenomena is well understood for the directed percolation (DP) and the directed Ising (DI) systems. However, a full analysis of the crossover behavior is still lacking, which is of our interest in this study. There are three different routes from the DI to the DP classes by introducing a symmetry breaking field (SB), breaking a modulo 2 conservation (CB), or making channels connecting two equivalent absorbing states (CC). Each route can be characterized by a crossover exponent, which is found numerically as $ϕ=2.1\pm 0.1$ (SB), $4.6\pm 0.2$ (CB), and $2.9\pm 0.1$ (CC), respectively. The difference between the SB and CB crossover can be understood easily in the domain wall language, while the CC crossover involves an additional critical singularity in the auxiliary field density with the memory effect to identify itself independent.
We study the dynamical percolation transition of the geometrical clusters in the two-dimensional Ising model when it is subjected to a pulsed field below the critical temperature. The critical exponents are independent of the temperature and pulse width and are different from the (static) percolation transition associated with the thermal transition. For a different model that belongs to the Ising universality class, the exponents are found to be same, confirming that the behavior is a common feature of the Ising class. These observations, along with a universal critical Binder cumulant value,…
The Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) random cluster model, which can be exactly mapped from the $q$-state Potts spin model, is a correlated bond percolation model. By extensive Monte Carlo simulations, we study the FK bond representation of the critical Ising model ($q=2$) on a finite complete graph, i.e. the mean-field Ising model. We provide strong numerical evidence that the configuration space for $q=2$ contains an asymptotically vanishing sector in which quantities exhibit the same finite-size scaling as in the critical uncorrelated bond percolation ($q=1$) on the complete graph. Moreover, we obser…
Hierarchical lattices that constitute spatially anisotropic systems are introduced. These lattices provide exact solutions for hierarchical models and, simultaneously, approximate solutions for uniaxially or fully anisotropic d=3 physical models. The global phase diagrams, with d=2 and d=1 to d=3 crossovers, are obtained for Ising, XY magnetic models and percolation systems, including crossovers from algebraic order to true long-range order.
We show that the equilibrium interfaces in the disordered phase have critical percolation fractal dimension over a wide range of length scales. We confirm that the system falls out of equilibrium at a temperature that depends on the cooling rate as predicted by the Kibble-Zurek argument and we prove that the dynamic growing length once the cooling reaches the critical point satisfies the same scaling. We determine the dynamic scaling properties of the interface winding angle variance and we show that the crossover between critical Ising and critical percolation properties is determined by the …
We study a two-dimensional kinetic Ising model with Swendsen-Wang dynamics, replacing the usual percolation on top of Ising clusters by explosive percolation. The model exhibits a reversible first-order phase transition with hysteresis. Surprisingly, at the transition flanks the global bond density seems to be equal to the percolation thresholds.
We obtain the harmonic measure of the hulls of critical percolation clusters and Ising-model Fortuin-Kastelyn clusters using a biased random-walk sampling technique which allows us to measure probabilities as small as 10^{-300}. We find the multifractal D(q) spectrum including regions of small and negative q. Our results for external hulls agree with Duplantier's theoretical predictions for D(q) and his exponent -23/24 for the harmonic measure probability distribution. For the complete hull, we find the probability decays with an exponent of -1 for both systems.
Through large-scale numerical simulations, we study the phase ordering kinetics of the $2d$ Ising Model after a zero-temperature quench from a high-temperature homogeneous initial condition. Analysing the behaviour of two important quantities -- the winding angle and the pair-connectedness -- we reveal the presence of a percolating structure in the pattern of domains. We focus on the pure case and on the random field and random bond Ising Model.
We present evidence for a deep connection between the zero-temperature coarsening of the two-dimensional kinetic Ising model (KIM) and critical continuum percolation. In addition to reaching the ground state, the KIM can also fall into a variety of topologically distinct metastable stripe states. The probability to reach a stripe state that winds a times horizontally and b times vertically on a square lattice with periodic boundary conditions equals the corresponding exactly-solved critical percolation crossing probability P_{a,b} for a spanning path with winding numbers a and b.
The fractal structure and scaling properties of a 2d slice of the 3d Ising model is studied using Monte Carlo techniques. The percolation transition of geometric spin (GS) clusters is found to occur at the Curie point, reflecting the critical behavior of the 3d model. The fractal dimension and the winding angle statistics of the perimeter and external perimeter of the geometric spin clusters at the critical point suggest that, if conformally invariant in the scaling limit, they can be described by the theory of Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE_κ) with diffusivity of κ=5 and 16/5, respectively, p…
In an artificial 3D percolation nano medium, the clusters filled by the Ising magnets give rise to a topologically nontrivial magnetic structure, leading to new features of the ferromagnetic phase transition without an external magnetic field. In such an inhomogeneous system, the standard Ising model is strongly modified by the spatial percolation cluster distribution. We found numerically that at percolation occupation probability $p<1$ far from the percolation threshold $p_{c3D}$, the magnetization shows ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition with the transition temperature $T_{c}$ depe…

We present a detailed description of the idea and procedure for the newly proposed Monte Carlo algorithm of tuning the critical point automatically, which is called the probability-changing cluster (PCC) algorithm [Y. Tomita and Y. Okabe, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 86} (2001) 572]. Using the PCC algorithm, we investigate the three-dimensional Ising model and the bond percolation problem. We employ a refined finite-size scaling analysis to make estimates of critical point and exponents. With much less efforts, we obtain the results which are consistent with the previous calculations. We argue severa…
We study the early time dynamics of the 2d ferromagnetic Ising model instantaneously quenched from the disordered to the ordered, low temperature, phase. We evolve the system with kinetic Monte Carlo rules that do not conserve the order parameter. We confirm the rapid approach to random critical percolation in a time-scale that diverges with the system size but is much shorter than the equilibration time. We study the scaling properties of the evolution towards critical percolation and we identify an associated growing length, different from the curvature driven one. By working with the model …
We present some exact results on percolation properties of the Ising model, when the range of the percolating bonds is larger than nearest-neighbors. We show that for a percolation range to next-nearest neighbors the percolation threshold Tp is still equal to the Ising critical temperature Tc, and present the phase diagram for this type of percolation. In addition, we present Monte Carlo calculations of the finite size behavior of the correlated resistor network defined on the Ising model. The thermal exponent t of the conductivity that follows from it is found to be t = 0.2000 +- 0.0007. We o…
In this paper we consider an approach, which allows researching a processes of order-disorder transition in various systems (with any distribution of the exchange integrals signs) in the frame of Ising model. A new order parameters, which can give a description of a phase transitions, are found. The common definition of these order parameters is the mean value of percolation cluster size. Percolation cluster includes spins with given energy. The transition from absolute disorder to correlated phase could be studied with using of percolation theory methods.
We study hysteresis in the random-field Ising model with an asymmetric distribution of quenched fields, in the limit of low disorder in two and three dimensions. We relate the spin flip process to bootstrap percolation, and show that the characteristic length for self-averaging $L^*$ increases as $exp(exp (J/Δ))$ in 2d, and as $exp(exp(exp(J/Δ)))$ in 3d, for disorder strength $Δ$ much less than the exchange coupling J. For system size $1 << L < L^*$, the coercive field $h_{coer}$ varies as $2J - Δ\ln \ln L$ for the square lattice, and as $2J - Δ\ln \ln \ln L$ on the cubic lattice. Its limiting…
Machine learning for phase transition has received intensive research interest in recent years. However, its application in percolation still remains challenging. We propose an auxiliary Ising mapping method for machine learning study of the standard percolation as well as a variety of statistical mechanical systems in correlated percolation representations. We demonstrate that unsupervised machine learning is able to accurately locate the percolation threshold, independent of the spatial dimension of system or the type of phase transition, which can be first order or continuous. Moreover, we …
We study the early time dynamics of bimodal spin systems on $2d$ lattices evolving with different microscopic stochastic updates. We treat the ferromagnetic Ising model with locally conserved order parameter (Kawasaki dynamics), the same model with globally conserved order parameter (nonlocal spin exchanges), and the voter model. As already observed for non-conserved order parameter dynamics (Glauber dynamics), in all the cases in which the stochastic dynamics satisfy detailed balance, the critical percolation state persists over a long period of time before usual coarsening of domains takes o…
We discuss a new cluster representation for the internal energy and the specific heat of the d-dimensional Ising model, obtained by studying the percolation mapping of an Ising model with an arbitrary set of antiferromagnetic links. Such a representation relates the thermal operators to the topological properties of the Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters of Ising percolation and is a powerful tool to get new exact relations on the topological structure of FK clusters of the Ising model defined on an arbitrary graph.
We investigate the influence of sub-Ohmic dissipation on randomly diluted quantum Ising and rotor models. The dissipation causes the quantum dynamics of sufficiently large percolation clusters to freeze completely. As a result, the zero-temperature quantum phase transition across the lattice percolation threshold separates an unusual super-paramagnetic cluster phase from an inhomogeneous ferromagnetic phase. We determine the low-temperature thermodynamic behavior in both phases which is dominated by large frozen and slowly fluctuating percolation clusters. We relate our results to the smeared …
The statistical mechanics method is developed for determination of generating function of like-sign spin clusters' size distribution in Ising model as modification of Ising-Potts model by K. K. Murata (1979). It is applied to the ferromagnetic Ising model on Bethe lattice. The analytical results for the field-temperature percolation phase diagram of + spin clusters and their size distribution are obtained. The last appears to be proportional to that of the classical non-correlated bond percolation with the bond probability, which depends on temperature and Ising model parameters.
We analytically show the percolation thresholds of the Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster for the Edwards-Anderson Ising model on random graphs with arbitrary degree distributions. The results on the Nishimori line are shown. We obtain the results for the +-J model, the diluted +-J model, and the Gaussian model, by applying an extension of a criterion for the random graphs with arbitrary degree distributions. The results for the infinite-range $\pm J$ model and the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model are also shown.
Using Finite-Size Scaling techniques we obtain accurate results for critical quantities of the Ising model and the site percolation, in three dimensions. We pay special attention in parameterizing the corrections-to-scaling, what is necessary to put the systematic errors below the statistical ones.
The two-dimensional (zero magnetic field) Ising model is known to undergo a second order para-ferromagnetic phase transition, which is accompanied by a correlated percolation transition for the Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) clusters. In this paper we uncover that there exists also a second temperature $T_{\text{eb}}<T_c$ at which the elastic backbone of FK clusters undergoes a second order phase transition to a dense phase. The corresponding universality class, which is characterized by determining various percolation exponents, is shown to be completely different from directed percolation, proposing…
The fractal structure of high-temperature graphs of the three-dimensional Ising and XY models is investigated by simulating these graphs directly on a cubic lattice and analyzing them with the help of percolation observables. The Ising graphs are shown to percolate right at the Curie critical point. The diverging length scale relevant to the graphs in the vicinity of the percolation threshold is shown to be provided by the spin correlation length. The fractal dimension of the high-temperature graphs at criticality is estimated to be $D = 1.7349(65)$ for the Ising and $D = 1.7626(66)$ for the X…
The dynamical percolation transition of two dimensional Axial Next Nearest Neighbour Ising (ANNNI) model to pulsed magnetic field has been studied by finite size scaling analysis (by Monte Carlo simulation) for various values of frustration parameters, pulse width and temperature (below the corresponding static transition temperature). It has been found that the size of the largest geometrical cluster shows a transition for a critical field amplitude. Although the transition points shift, the critical exponents remain invariant for a wide range of frustration parameters. It is also same as tha…
The presence of random fields is well known to destroy ferromagnetic order in Ising systems in two dimensions. When the system is placed in a sufficiently strong external field, however, the size of clusters of like spins diverges. There is evidence that this percolation transition is in the universality class of standard site percolation. It has been claimed that, for small disorder, a similar percolation phenomenon also occurs in zero external field. Using exact algorithms, we study ground states of large samples and find little evidence for a transition at zero external field. Nevertheless,…
We study the scaling of the average cluster size and percolation strength of geometrical clusters for the two-dimensional Ising model. By means of Monte Carlo simulations and a finite-size scaling analysis we discuss the appearance of corrections to scaling for different definitions of cluster sets. We find that including all percolating clusters, or excluding only clusters that percolate in one but not the other direction, leads to smaller corrections to scaling for the average cluster size as compared to the other definitions considered. The percolation strength is less sensitive to the defi…
We present a comparative study of the fate of an Ising ferromagnet on the square lattice with periodic boundary conditions evolving under three different zero-temperature dynamics. The first one is Glauber dynamics, the two other dynamics correspond to two limits of the directed Ising model, defined by rules that break the full symmetry of the former, yet sharing the same Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution at stationarity. In one of these limits the directed Ising model is reversible, in the other one it is irreversible. For the kinetic Ising-Glauber model, several recent studies have demonstrated t…

We study the effects of dissipation on a randomly dilute transverse-field Ising magnet at and close to the percolation threshold. For weak transverse fields, a novel percolation quantum phase transition separates a super-paramagnetic cluster phase from an inhomogeneously ordered ferromagnetic phase. The properties of this transition are dominated by large frozen and slowly fluctuating percolation clusters. Implementing numerically a strong-disorder real space renormalization group technique, we compute the low-energy density of states which is found to be in good agreement with the analytical …
The structure of the three-dimensional random field Ising magnet is studied by ground state calculations. We investigate the percolation of the minority spin orientation in the paramagnetic phase above the bulk phase transition, located at [Delta/J]_c ~= 2.27, where Delta is the standard deviation of the Gaussian random fields (J=1). With an external field H there is a disorder strength dependent critical field +/- H_c(Delta) for the down (or up) spin spanning. The percolation transition is in the standard percolation universality class. H_c ~ (Delta - Delta_p)^{delta}, where Delta_p = 2.43 +/…
In this work we study numerically the final state of the two dimensional ferromagnetic critical Ising model after a quench to zero temperature. Beginning from equilibrium at $T_c$, the system can be blocked in a variety of infinitely long lived stripe states in addition to the ground state. Similar results have already been obtained for an infinite temperature initial condition and an interesting connection to exact percolation crossing probabilities has emerged. Here we complete this picture by providing a new example of stripe states precisely related to initial crossing probabilities for va…
The conjectured exact percolation thresholds of the Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster for the +-J Ising spin glass model are theoretically shown based on a conjecture. It is pointed out that the percolation transition of the Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster for the spin glass model is related to a dynamical transition for the freezing of spins. The present results are obtained as locations of points on the so-called Nishimori line, which is a special line in the phase diagram. We obtain TFK = 2 / ln [z / (z - 2)] and pFK = z / [2 (z - 1)] for the Bethe lattice, TFK -> infinity and pFK -> 1 / 2 for the infini…
Casimir forces in a critical media are produced by spatial suppression of order parameter fluctuations. In this paper we address the question how fluctuations of a critical media relates the magnitude of critical Casimir interactions. Namely, for the Ising model we express the potential of critical Casimir interactions in terms of Fortuin-Kasteleyn site-bond correlated percolation clusters. These clusters are quantitative representation of fluctuations in the media. New Monte Carlo method for the computation of the Casimir force potential which is based on this relation is proposed. We verify …
Based on the connection between the Ising model and a correlated percolation model, we calculate the distribution function for the fraction ($c$) of lattice sites in percolating clusters in subgraphs with $n$ percolating clusters, $f_n(c)$, and the distribution function for magnetization ($m$) in subgraphs with $n$ percolating clusters, $p_n(m)$. We find that $f_n(c)$ and $p_n(m)$ have very good finite-size scaling behavior and they have universal finite-size scaling functions for the model on square, plane triangular, and honeycomb lattices when aspect ratios of these lattices have the propor…
The ground state structure of the two-dimensional random field Ising magnet is studied using exact numerical calculations. First we show that the ferromagnetism, which exists for small system sizes, vanishes with a large excitation at a random field strength dependent length scale. This {\it break-up length scale} $L_b$ scales exponentially with the squared random field, $\exp(A/Δ^2)$. By adding an external field $H$ we then study the susceptibility in the ground state. If $L>L_b$, domains melt continuously and the magnetization has a smooth behavior, independent of system size, and the suscep…
At non-equilibrium phase transitions into absorbing (trapped) states, it is well known that the directed percolation (DP) critical scaling is shared by two classes of models with a single (S) absorbing state and with infinitely many (IM) absorbing states. We study the crossover behavior in one dimension, arising from a considerable reduction of the number of absorbing states (typically from the IM-type to the S-type DP models), by following two different (excitatory or inhibitory) routes which make the auxiliary field density abruptly jump at the crossover. Along the excitatory route, the syst…
The $q=2$ random cluster model is studied in the context of two mean field models: The Bethe lattice and the complete graph. For these systems, the critical exponents that are defined in terms of finite clusters have some anomalous values as the critical point is approached from the high density side which vindicates the results of earlier studies. In particular, the exponent $\tilde γ^\prime$ which characterises the divergence of the average size of finite clusters is 1/2 and $\tildeν^\prime$, the exponent associated with the length scale of finite clusters is 1/4. The full collection of expo…
We examine Ising models with heat-bath dynamics on directed networks. Our simulations show that Ising models on directed triangular and simple cubic lattices undergo a phase transition that most likely belongs to the Ising universality class. On the directed square lattice the model remains paramagnetic at any positive temperature as already reported in some previous studies. We also examine random directed graphs and show that contrary to undirected ones, percolation of directed bonds does not guarantee ferromagnetic ordering. Only above a certain threshold a random directed graph can support…
In this paper, we investigate the behaviour of statistical physics models on a book with pages that are isomorphic to half-planes. We show that even for models undergoing a continuous phase transition on $\mathbb Z^2$, the phase transition becomes discontinuous as soon as the number of pages is sufficiently large. In particular, we prove that the Ising model on a three pages book has a discontinuous phase transition (if one allows oneself to consider large coupling constants along the line on which pages are glued). Our work confirms predictions in theoretical physics which relied on renormali…
A measure of cluster size heterogeneity ($H$), introduced by Lee et al [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 84}, 020101 (2011)] in the context of explosive percolation, was recently applied to random percolation and to domains of parallel spins in the Ising and Potts models. It is defined as the average number of different domain sizes in a given configuration and a new exponent was introduced to explain its scaling with the size of the system. In thermal spin models, however, physical clusters take into account the temperature-dependent correlation between neighboring spins and encode the critical properties o…
In this paper, we investigate the invasion percolation (IP) in imperfect support in which the configuration of imperfections is considered to be correlated. Three lattice models were engaged to realize this pattern: site percolation, Ising model and random Coulomb potential (RCP). The first two models are short range interaction (SRI), whereas the last one includes coulomb like interactions which is pretty long range (long-range interactions, LRI). By examining various dynamical observables we show that the critical exponents of SRI IP are robust against the control parameters (temperature in …
Magnetic ordering at low temperature for Ising ferromagnets manifests itself within the associated Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) random cluster representation as the occurrence of a single positive density percolating network. In this paper we investigate the percolation signature for Ising spin glass ordering -- both in short-range (EA) and infinite-range (SK) models -- within a two-replica FK representation and also within the different Chayes-Machta-Redner two-replica graphical representation. Based on numerical studies of the $\pm J$ EA model in three dimensions and on rigorous results for the SK…
We revisit well-established concepts of epidemiology, the Ising-model, and percolation theory. Also, we employ a spin $S$ = 1/2 Ising-like model and a (logistic) Fermi-Dirac-like function to describe the spread of Covid-19. Our analysis reinforces well-established literature results, namely: \emph{i}) that the epidemic curves can be described by a Gaussian-type function; \emph{ii}) that the temporal evolution of the accumulative number of infections and fatalities follow a logistic function, which has some resemblance with a distorted Fermi-Dirac-like function; \emph{iii}) the key role played …
The identification of phase transition points, beta_c, with the percolation thresholds of suitably defined clusters of spins has proved immensely fruitful in many areas of statistical mechanics. Some time ago Kertesz suggested that such percolation thresholds for models defined in field might also have measurable physical consequences for regions of the phase diagram below beta_c, giving rise to a ``Kertesz line'' running between beta_c and the bond percolation threshold, beta_p, in the M, beta plane. Although no thermodynamic singularities were associated with this line it could still be divi…
By means of Monte Carlo simulations and a finite-size scaling analysis, we find a critical line of an n-component Eulerian face-cubic model on the square lattice and the simple cubic lattice in the region v>1, where v is the bond weight. The phase transition belongs to the Ising universality class independent of n. The critical properties of the phase transition can also be captured by the percolation of the complement of the Eulerian graph.
When a two-dimensional Ising ferromagnet is quenched from above the critical temperature to zero temperature, the system eventually converges to either a ground state (all spins aligned) or an infinitely long-lived metastable stripe state. By applying results from percolation theory, we analytically determine the probability to reach the stripe state as a function of the aspect ratio and the form of the boundary conditions. These predictions agree with simulation results. Our approach generally applies to coarsening dynamics of non-conserved scalar fields in two dimensions.
We introduce a class of damage models on regular lattices with isotropic interactions, as e.g. quasistatic fiber bundles. The system starts intact with a surface-energy threshold required to break any cell sampled from an uncorrelated quenched-disorder distribution. The evolution of this heterogeneous system is ruled by Griffith's principle which states that a cell breaks when the release in elastic energy in the system exceeds the surface-energy barrier necessary to break the cell. By direct integration over all possible realizations of the quenched disorder, we obtain the probability distrib…
The Social Percolation model recently proposed by Solomon et al. is studied on the Ising correlated inhomogeneous network. The dynamics in this is studied so as to understand the role of correlations in the social structure. Thus the possible role of the structural social connectivity is examined.
In three-dimensional critical percolation we study numerically the number of clusters, $N_Γ$, which intersect a given subset of bonds, $Γ$. If $Γ$ represents the interface between a subsystem and the environment, then $N_Γ$ is related to the entanglement entropy of the critical diluted quantum Ising model. Due to corners in $Γ$ there are singular corrections to $N_Γ$, which scale as $b_Γ \ln L_Γ$, $L_Γ$ being the linear size of $Γ$ and the prefactor, $b_Γ$, is found to be universal. This result indicates that logarithmic finite-size corrections exist in the free-energy of three-dimensional cri…
The fractal dimensions and the percolation exponents of the geometrical spin clusters of like sign at criticality, are obtained numerically for an Ising model with temperature-dependent annealed bond dilution, also known as the thermalized bond Ising model (TBIM), in two dimensions. For this purpose, a modified Wolff single-cluster Monte Carlo simulation is used to generate equilibrium spin configurations on square lattices in the critical region. A tie-breaking rule is employed to identify non-intersecting spin cluster boundaries along the edges of the dual lattice. The values obtained for th…
The upper critical dimension of the Ising model is known to be $d_c=4$, above which critical behavior is regarded as trivial. We hereby argue from extensive simulations that, in the random-cluster representation, the Ising model simultaneously exhibits two upper critical dimensions at $(d_c= 4, d_p=6)$, and critical clusters for $d \geq d_p$, except the largest one, are governed by exponents from percolation universality. We predict a rich variety of geometric properties and then provide strong evidence in dimensions from 4 to 7 and on complete graphs. Our findings significantly advance the un…
