We obtain sufficient conditions for solutions of the $m$th-order differential inequality $$
\sum_{|α| = m}
\partial^αa_α(x, u)
\ge
f (x) g (|u|)
\quad
\mbox{in } B_1 \setminus \{ 0 \} $$ to have a removable singularity at zero, where $a_α$, $f$, and $g$ are some functions, and $B_1 = \{ x : |x| < 1 \}$ is a unit ball in ${\mathbb R}^n$.
Constructed examples demonstrate the exactness of these conditions.
We prove a removable singularities theorem for point singularities of the coupled yang mills fermion equations, on a bundle over a two dimensional base space.
We obtain conditions guaranteeing that weak solutions of the differential inequality $$ \sum_{|α| = m} \partial^α a_α(x, u) \ge f (x) g (|u|) \quad \mbox{in } Ω\setminus S, $$ has a removable singular set $S \subset Ω$, where $Ω$ is a bounded domain and $a_α$, $f$, and $g$ are some functions.
It is well known that sets of $p$-capacity zero are removable for bounded $p$-harmonic functions, but on metric spaces there are examples of removable sets of positive capacity. In this paper, we show that this can happen even on unweighted $\mathbf{R}^n$ when $n > p$, although only in very special cases. A complete characterization of removable singularities for bounded $\mathcal{A}$-harmonic functions on weighted $\mathbf{R}^n$, $n \ge 1$, is also given, where the weight is $p$-admissible. The same characterization is also shown to hold for bounded quasiharmonic functions on weighted $\mathb…
In this paper we study removable singularities for solutions of the fractional heat equation in time varying domains. We introduce associated capacities and we study some of its metric and geometric properties.
We study the removability of a singular set in the boundary of Neumann problem for elliptic equations with variable exponent. We consider the case where the singular set is compact, and give sufficient conditions for removability of this singularity for equations in the variable exponent Sobolev space.
We study the removability of a singular set for elliptic equations involving weight functions and variable exponents. We consider the case where the singular set satisfies conditions related to some generalization of upper Minkowski content or a net measure, and give sufficient conditions for removability of this singularity for equations in the weighted variable exponent Sobolev spaces.
We study the Yamabe flow on a Riemannian manifold of dimension $m\geq3$ minus a closed submanifold of dimension $n$ and prove that there exists an instantaneously complete solution if and only if $n>\frac{m-2}{2}$. In the remaining cases $0\leq n\leq\frac{m-2}{2}$ including the borderline case, we show that the removability of the $n$-dimensional singularity is necessarily preserved along the Yamabe flow. In particular, the flow must remain geodesically incomplete as long as it exists. This is contrasted with the two-dimensional case, where instantaneously complete solutions always exist.
We study properties of positive functions satisfying (E) --$Δ$u+m|$\nabla$u| q -- u p = 0 is a domain $Ω$ or in R N + when p > 1 and 1 < q < 2. We give sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution to (E) with a nonnegative measure $μ$ as boundary data, and these conditions are expressed in terms of Bessel capacities on the boundary. We also study removable boundary singularities and solutions with an isolated singularity on $\partial$$Ω$. The different results depends on two critical exponents for p = p c := N +1 N --1 and for q = q c := N +1 N and on the position of q with respect to…
We study the Hardy inequality when the singularity is placed on the boundary of a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ that satisfies both an interior and exterior ball condition at the singularity. We obtain the sharp Hardy constant $n^2/4$ in case the exterior ball is large enough and show the necessity of the large exterior ball condition. We improve Hardy inequality with the best constant by adding a sharp Sobolev term. We next produce criteria that lead to characterizing maximal potentials that improve Hardy inequality. Breaking the criteria one produces successive improvements with sharp con…
In this paper, we are devoted to studying the positive solutions of the following higher order Hardy-Hénon equation $$ (-Δ)^{m}u=|x|^αu^{p} \quad\mbox{in}~ B_{1}\setminus\{0\}\subset\mathbb{R}^{n} $$ with an isolated singularity at the origin, where $α>-2m$, $m\geq1$ is an integer and $n>2m$. For $1<p<\frac{n+2m}{n-2m}$, singularity and decay estimates of solutions will be given. For $\frac{n+α}{n-2m}<p<\frac{n+2m}{n-2m}$ with $-2m<α<2m$, we show the super polyharmonic properties of solutions near the singularity, which are essential tools in the study of polyharmonic equation. Using these pro…
The Lojasiewicz inequalities for real analytic functions on Euclidean space were first proved by Stanislaw Lojasiewicz (1965) using methods of semianalytic and subanalytic sets, arguments later simplified by Bierstone and Milman (1988). In this article, we first give an elementary geometric, coordinate-based proof of the Lojasiewicz inequalities in the special case where the function is $C^1$ with simple normal crossings. We then prove, partly following Bierstone and Milman (1997) and using resolution of singularities for real analytic varieties, that the gradient inequality for an arbitrary r…
The Hardy Inequality (HI) for potentials with countably many singularities of the form $V=\sum_{k\in \mathbf{Z}}\frac{1}{|x-a_k|^2}$ is not a trivial issue. In principle, the more singular poles are, the less the Hardy constant is: it is well-known that in all the existing results about the HI with finite number of singularities the best constants converge to 0 with the number $n$ of singularities going to infinity. In this note we provide an example of nontrivial HI in right cylinders of fixed radius $R>0$ in $\mathbf{R}^d$, for a potential $V$ defined above having the singularities $\{a_k\}_…
We study the problem of finding a function u verifying --$Δ$u = 0 in $Ω$ under the boundary condition $\partial$u $\partial$n + g(u) = $μ$ on $\partial$$Ω$ where $Ω$ $\subset$ R N is a smooth domain, n the normal unit outward vector to $Ω$, $μ$ is a measure on $\partial$$Ω$ and g a continuous nondecreasing function. We give sufficient condition on g for this problem to be solvable for any measure. When g(r) = |r| p--1 r, p > 1, we give conditions in order an isolated singularity on $\partial$$Ω$ be removable. We also give capacitary conditions on a measure $μ$ in order the problem with g(r) = …
