We present counterexamples to Fujita's conjecture in positive characteristics. Precisely, we show that over any algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$ and for any positive integer $m$, there exists a smooth projective surface $S$ with an ample Cartier divisor $A$ such that the adjoint linear system $|K_S+mA|$ is not free of base point. Our surface $S$ is a certain kind of generalization of Raynaud surfaces.
We show Fujita's spectrum conjecture for $ε$-log canonical pairs and Fujita's log spectrum conjecture for log canonical pairs. Then, we generalize the pseudo-effective threshold of a single divisor to multiple divisors and establish the analogous finiteness and the DCC properties.
We consider Fujita's freeness conjecture in a relative setting and prove a criterion by proving a correct Q-divisor version of the Kollar vanishing theorem.
We prove a version of Fujita's Conjecture in arbitrary characteristic, generalizing results of K.E. Smith. Our methods use the Frobenius morphism, but avoid tight closure theory. We also obtain versions of Fujita's Conjecture for coherent sheaves with certain ampleness properties.
We show that Fujita's conjecture is true for quasi-elliptic surfaces. Explicitly, for any quasi-elliptic surface $X$ and an ample line bundle $A$ on $X$, we have $K_X + tA$ is base point free for $t \geq 3$ and is very ample for $t \geq 4$.
We apply a conjectured inequality on third chern classes of stable two-term complexes on threefolds to Fujita's conjecture. More precisely, the inequality is shown to imply a Reider-type theorem in dimension three which in turn implies that K_X + 6L is very ample when L is ample, and that 5L is very ample when K_X is trivial.
We give a characterization of Gorenstein toric Fano varieties of dimension $n$ with index $n$ among toric varieties. As an application, we give a strong version of Fujita's freeness conjecture and also give a simple proof of Fujita's very ampleness conjecture on Gorenstein toric varieties.
We describe examples showing the sharpness of Fujita's conjecture on adjoint bundles also in the general type case, and use these examples to formulate related bold conjectures on pluricanonical maps of varieties of general type.
We prove a conjecture of Lehmann-Tanimoto about the behaviour of the Fujita invariant (or $a$-constant appearing in Manin's conjecture) under pull-back to generically finite covers. As a consequence we obtain results about geometric consistency of Manin's conjecture.
In this paper, we show that Fujita's basepoint-freeness conjecture for projective quasi-log canonical singularities holds true in dimension three. Immediately, we prove Fujita-type basepoint-freeness for projective semi-log canonical threefolds.
We present a self-contained combinatorial approach to Fujita's conjectures in the toric case. Our main new result is a generalization of Fujita's very ampleness conjecture for toric varieties with arbitrary singularities. In an appendix, we use similar methods to give a new proof of an analogous toric generalization of Fujita's freeness conjecture due to Fujino.
We prove that a conjecture of Fujita on the semi-ampleness is true in the case of rank one direct summand, though it is wrong in higher rank case by Catanese and Dettweiler.
In 1988, Fujita conjectured that there is an effective and uniform way to turn an ample line bundle on a smooth projective variety into a globally generated or very ample line bundle. We study Fujita's conjecture using Seshadri constants, which were first introduced by Demailly in 1992 with the hope that they could be used to prove cases of Fujita's conjecture. While examples of Miranda seemed to indicate that Seshadri constants could not be used to prove Fujita's conjecture, we present a new approach to Fujita's conjecture using Seshadri constants and positive characteristic methods. Our tech…
We derive a formula for non-Archimedean Monge-Ampère measures of big models. As applications, we derive a positive intersection formula for non-Archimedean Mabuchi functional, and further reduce the uniform Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for polarized manifolds to a conjecture about the existence of approximate Zariski decompositions that satisfy some asymptotic vanishing condition.
Jet ampleness of line bundles generalizes very ampleness by requiring the existence of enough global sections to separate not just points and tangent vectors, but also their higher order analogues called jets. We give sharp bounds guaranteeing that a line bundle on a projective toric variety is $k$-jet ample in terms of its intersection numbers with the invariant curves, in terms of the lattice lengths of the edges of its polytope, in terms of the higher concavity of its piecewise linear function and in terms of its Seshadri constant. For example, the tensor power $k+n-2$ of an ample line bund…
Fujita's second theorem for Kähler fibre spaces over a curve asserts that the direct image $V$ of the relative dualizing sheaf splits as the direct sum $ V = A \oplus Q$, where $A$ is ample and $Q$ is unitary flat. We focus on our negative answer (\cite{cd}) to a question by Fujita: is $V$ semiample? We give here an infinite series of counterexamples using hypergeometric integrals and we give a simple argument to show that the monodromy representation is infinite. Our counterexamples are surfaces of general type with positive index, explicitly given as abelian coverings with group $(\mathbb Z/…
In this note we discuss some examples of non torsion and non algebraic cohomology classes for varieties over finite fields. The approach follows the construction of Atiyah-Hirzebruch and Totaro.
For any n>3, we provide examples of curves lying on K3 surfaces and vector bundles on those curves which invalidate Mercat's conjecture for rank n bundles.
We show that Nori's fundamental group scheme π(X,x) does not base change correctly under extension of the base field for certain smooth projective ordinary curves X of genus 2 defined over a field of characteristic 2.
Ahmadi-Shparlinski conjectured that every ordinary, geometrically simple Jacobian over a finite field has maximal angle rank. Using the L-Functions and Modular Forms Database, we provide two counterexamples to this conjecture in dimension 4.
We study the integral Hodge conjecture in complex codimension $2$ and $3$ for approximations to the classifying space of groups of type A. In degree two, we prove a conjecture of Ben Antieau, extending his two counterexamples to a general family of groups. In particular, when reduced to a finite field, these spaces extend Antieau's counterexamples to the integral $\ell$-adic Tate conjecture from the cases $\ell = 2, 3$ to all primes $\ell$.
We construct a quartic threefold with L-rational singularities which has torsion in its middle homology group. This answers a question of Brown and Schnetz for all fields of characteristic zero.
We list all the pairs $(deg(P),deg(Q))$ with $\max\{deg(P),deg(Q)\}< 125$ for any hypothetical counterexample to the plane Jacobian Conjecture and discard them all, except the pair $(72,108)$ (and the symmetric pair $(108,72)$), thus we confirm the lower bound of 100 obtained by Moh and raise it up to 108.
King's conjecture states that on every smooth complete toric variety $X$ there exists a strongly exceptional collection which generates the bounded derived category of $X$ and which consists of line bundles. We give a counterexample to this conjecture. This example is just the Hirzebruch surface $\mathbb{F}_2$ iteratively blown up three times, and we show by explicit computation of cohomology vanishing that there exist no strongly exceptional sequences of length 7.
