King's conjecture states that on every smooth complete toric variety $X$ there exists a strongly exceptional collection which generates the bounded derived category of $X$ and which consists of line bundles. We give a counterexample to this conjecture. This example is just the Hirzebruch surface $\mathbb{F}_2$ iteratively blown up three times, and we show by explicit computation of cohomology vanishing that there exist no strongly exceptional sequences of length 7.
Ahmadi-Shparlinski conjectured that every ordinary, geometrically simple Jacobian over a finite field has maximal angle rank. Using the L-Functions and Modular Forms Database, we provide two counterexamples to this conjecture in dimension 4.
We present counterexamples to Fujita's conjecture in positive characteristics. Precisely, we show that over any algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$ and for any positive integer $m$, there exists a smooth projective surface $S$ with an ample Cartier divisor $A$ such that the adjoint linear system $|K_S+mA|$ is not free of base point. Our surface $S$ is a certain kind of generalization of Raynaud surfaces.
We list all the pairs $(deg(P),deg(Q))$ with $\max\{deg(P),deg(Q)\}< 125$ for any hypothetical counterexample to the plane Jacobian Conjecture and discard them all, except the pair $(72,108)$ (and the symmetric pair $(108,72)$), thus we confirm the lower bound of 100 obtained by Moh and raise it up to 108.
