In this article, we consider the energy decay of a viscoelastic wave in an heterogeneous medium. To be more specific, the medium is composed of two different homogeneous medium with a memory term located in one of the medium. We prove exponential decay of the energy of the solution under geometrical and analytical hypothesis on the memory term.
In this paper, we consider a transmission problem in a bounded domain with a viscoelastic term and a delay term. Under appropriate hypothesis on the relaxation function and the relationship between the weight of the damping and the weight of the delay, we prove the well-posedness result by using Faedo-Galerkin method. By introducing suitable Lyaponov functionals, we establish a general decay result, from which the exponential and polynomial types of decay are only special cases.
We investigate a viscoelastic flow model with a generalized memory, in which a weak-singular component is introduced in the exponential convolution kernel of classical viscoelastic flow equations that remains untreated in the literature. We prove the well-posedness and regularity of the solutions, based on which we prove the exponential convergence of the solutions to the steady state. The proposed model serves as an extension of classical viscoelastic flow equations by adding a dimension characterized by the power of the weak-singular kernel, and the derived results provide theoretical suppor…
In this paper we study a class of semilinear wave type equations with viscoelastic damping and delay feedback with time variable coefficient. By combining semigroup arguments, careful energy estimates and an iterative approach we are able to prove, under suitable assumptions, a well-posedness result and an exponential decay estimate for solutions corresponding to small initial data. This extends and concludes the analysis initiated in [16] and then developed in [13, 17].
We investigate the stabilization of a locally coupled wave equations with only one internal viscoelastic damping of Kelvin-Voigt type. The main novelty in this paper is that both the damping and the coupling coefficients are non smooth. First, using a general criteria of Arendt-Batty, combined with an uniqueness result, we prove that our system is strongly stable. Next, using a spectrum approach, we prove the non-exponential (uniform) stability of the system. Finally, using a frequency domain approach, combined with a piecewise multiplier technique and the construction of a new multiplier sati…
The goal of this work is to study a model of the wave equation with dynamic boundary conditions and a viscoelastic term. First, applying the Faedo-Galerkin method combined with the fixed point theorem, we show the existence and uniqueness of a local in time solution. Second, we show that under some restrictions on the initial data, the solution continues to exist globally in time. On the other hand, if the interior source dominates the boundary damping, then the solution is unbounded and grows as an exponential function. In addition, in the absence of the strong damping, then the solution ceas…
We investigate the stabilization of a multidimensional system of coupled wave equations with only one Kelvin Voigt damping. Using a unique continuation result based on a Carleman estimate and a general criteria of Arendt Batty, we prove the strong stability of the system in the absence of the compactness of the resolvent without any geometric condition. Then, using a spectral analysis, we prove the non uniform stability of the system. Further, using frequency domain approach combined with a multiplier technique, we establish some polynomial stability results by considering different geometric …
The initial boundary value problem for a system of viscoelastic wave equations of Kirchhoff type with strong damping is considered. We prove that, under suitable assumptions on relaxation functions and certain initial data, the decay rate of the solutions energy is exponential.
In this paper, we consider initial-boundary value problem of viscoelastic wave equation with a delay term in the interior feedback. Namely, we study the following equation $$u_{tt}(x,t)-Δu(x,t)+\int_0^t g(t-s)Δu(x,s)ds +μ_1 u_t(x,t)+ μ_2 u_t(x,t-τ)=0$$ together with initial-boundary conditions of Dirichlet type in $Ω\times (0,+\infty)$, and prove that for arbitrary real numbers $μ_1$ and $μ_2$, the above mentioned problem has a unique global solution under suitable assumptions on the kernel $g$. This improve the results of the previous literature such as [6] and [13] by removing the restrictio…
The long time behavior of a kind of fully magnetic effected nonlinear piezoelectric beam with viscoelastic infinite memory is considered. The well-posedness of this nonlinear coupled PDEs system is showed by mean of the semigroup theories and Banach fixed point theorem. Based on frequency domain analysis, it is proved that the corresponding coupled linear system can be indirectly stabilized exponentially by only one viscoelastic infinite memory term, which is located on one equation of these strongly coupled PDEs. Then the exponential decay of the solution to the nonlinear coupled PDEs' system…
The paper is concerned with the exponential attractors for the viscoelastic wave model in $Ω\subset \mathbb R^3$: $$u_{tt}-h_t(0)Δu-\int_0^\infty\partial_sh_t(s)Δu(t-s)\mathrm ds+f(u)=h,$$ with time-dependent memory kernel $h_t(\cdot)$ which is used to model aging phenomena of the material. Conti et al [Amer. J. Math., 2018] recently provided the correct mathematical setting for the model and a well-posedness result within the novel theory of dynamical systems acting on. time-dependent spaces, recently established by Conti, Pata and Temam [J. Differential Equations, 2013], and proved the exist…
We take advantage of the approximation of the stretched exponential function with a general Prony series in glass relaxation to give some results about the spectral analysis for the equation of viscoelasticity. Moreover, in the case of the Burgers model we carry out a complete investigation that leads to the representation of the solution.

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the wave equation with viscoelastic damping in presence of a time-delayed damping. We prove exponential stability if the amplitude of the time delay term is small enough.
We consider an elastic/viscoelastic transmission problem for the Bresse system with fully Dirichlet or Dirichlet-Neumann-Neumann boundary conditions. The physical model consists of three wave equations coupled in certain pattern. The system is damped directly or indirectly by global or local Kelvin-Voigt damping. Actually, the number of the dampings, their nature of distribution (locally or globally) and the smoothness of the damping coefficient at the interface play a crucial role in the type of the stabilization of the corresponding semigroup. Indeed, using frequency domain approach combined…
An initial-boundary value problem for a viscoelastic wave equation subject to a strong time-localized delay in a Kelvin & Voigt-type material law is considered. Transforming the equation to an abstract Cauchy problem on the extended phase space, a global well-posedness theory is established using the operator semigroup theory both in Sobolev-valued $C^{0}$- and BV-spaces. Under appropriate assumptions on the coefficients, a global exponential decay rate is obtained and the stability region in the parameter space is further explored using the Lyapunov's indirect method. The singular limit $τ\to…
In this paper, we consider a Timoshenko system with a thermo-viscoelastic damping and a delay term in the internal feedback together with initial datum and boundary conditions of Dirichlet type, where g is a positive non-increasing relaxation function and μ1, μ2 are positive constants. Under an hypothesis between the weight of the delay term in the feedback and the the weight of the friction damping term, using the Faedo-Galerkin approximations together with some energy estimates, we prove the global existence of the solutions. Then, by introducing appropriate Lyapunov functionals, under the i…
In this paper we consider a viscoelastic wave equation with a time-varying delay term, the coefficient of which is not necessarily positive. By introducing suitable energy and Lyapunov functionals, under suitable assumptions, we establish a general energy decay result from which the exponential and polynomial types of decay are only special cases.
The goal of the present paper is to study the asymptotic behavior of solutions for the viscoelastic wave equation with variable exponents \[ u_{tt}-Δu+\int_0^tg(t-s)Δu(s)ds+a|u_t|^{m(x)-2}u_t=b|u|^{p(x)-2}u\] under initial-boundary condition, where the exponents $p(x)$ and $m(x)$ are given functions, and $a,~b>0$ are constants. More precisely, under the condition $g'(t)\le -ξ(t)g(t)$, here $ξ(t):\mathbb{R}^+\to\mathbb{R}^+$ is a non-increasing differential function with $ξ(0)>0,~\int_0^\inftyξ(s)ds=+\infty$, general decay results are derived. In addition, when $g$ decays polynomially, the expo…
The goal of this paper is to study a nonlinear viscoelastic wave equation with strong damping, time-varying delay and dynamical boundary condition. By introducing suitable energy and Lyapunov functionals, under suitable assumptions, we then prove a general decay result of the energy, from which the usual exponential and polynomial decay rates are only special cases.

We address a Timoshenko system with memory in the history context and thermoelasticity of type III for heat conduction. Our main goal is to prove its uniform (exponential) stability by illustrating carefully the sensitivity of the heat and history couplings on the Timoshenko system. This investigation contrasts previous insights on the subject and promotes a new perspective with respect to the stability of the thermo-viscoelastic problem carried out, by combining the whole strength of history and thermal effects.
In the present paper, we are concerned with the semilinear viscoelastic wave equation subject to a locally distributed dissipative effect of Kelvin-Voigt type, posed on a bounded domain with smooth boundary. We begin with an auxiliary problem and we show that its solution decays exponentially in the weak phase space. The method of proof combines an observability inequality and unique continuation properties. Then, passing to the limit, we recover the original model and prove its global existence as well as the exponential stability.
We study the initial-boundary value problem for a nonlinear wave equation given by u_{tt}-u_{xx}+\int_{0}^{t}k(t-s)u_{xx}(s)ds+ u_{t}^{q-2}u_{t}=f(x,t,u) , 0 < x < 1, 0 < t < T, u_{x}(0,t)=u(0,t), u_{x}(1,t)+ηu(1,t)=g(t), u(x,0)=û_{0}(x), u_{t}(x,0)={û}_{1}(x), where η\geq 0, q\geq 2 are given constants {û}_{0}, {û}_{1}, g, k, f are given functions. In part I under a certain local Lipschitzian condition on f, a global existence and uniqueness theorem is proved. The proof is based on the paper [10] associated to a contraction mapping theorem and standard arguments of density. In Part} 2, under …
Our aim in this article is to study a nonlinear viscoelastic Kirchhoff equation with strong damping, Balakrishnan-Taylor damping, nonlinear source and dynamical boundary condition. Firstly, we prove the local existence of solutions by using the Faedo-Galerkin approximation method combined with a contraction mapping theorem. We then prove that if the initial data enter into the stable set, the solution globally exists, and if the initial data enter into the unstable set, the solution blows up in a finite time. Moreover, we obtain a general decay result of the energy, from which the usual expone…
We consider a beam-string-beam transmission problem, where two structurally damped or undamped beams are coupled with a frictionally damped string by transmission conditions. We show that for this type of structure, the dissipation produced by the frictional part is strong enough to produce exponential decay of the solution no matter how small is its size: for the exponential stability in the damped-damped-damped situation we use energy method and in the undamped-damped-undamped situation we use a frequency domain method from the semigroups theory, which combines a contradiction argument with …
In this work, a Timoshenko system of type III of thermoelasticity with frictional versus viscoelastic under Dirichlet-Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions was considered. By exploiting energy method to produce a suitable Lyapunov functional, we establish the global existence, exponential decay of Type-III case.
The spectrum of interior transmission problem is the zero set of certain entire functional determinant. It is classic that we deploy the series of exponential polynomials to approximate the distribution of the roots of the entire functions of exponential type. We construct an exponential system in the form of $\{e^{ik_jr}\}$ according to the set of interior transmission eigenvalues $\{k_{j}\}$. The eigenvalues are the zeros of a sine-type function. In particular, they are intersection points of two asymptotically periodic entire functions. The intersection set is asymptotically sine-like near …
We investigate the stability of a one-dimensional wave equation with non smooth localized internal viscoelastic damping of Kelvin-Voigt type and with boundary or localized internal delay feedback. The main novelty in this paper is that the Kelvin-Voigt and the delay damping are both localized via non smooth coefficients. In the case that the Kelvin-Voigt damping is localized faraway from the tip and the wave is subjected to a locally distributed internal or boundary delay feedback, we prove that the energy of the system decays polynomially of type t^{-4}. However, an exponential decay of the e…
We consider a transmission problem where a structurally damped plate equation is coupled with a damped or undamped wave equation by transmission conditions. We show that exponential stability holds in the damped-damped situation and polynomial stability (but no exponential stability) holds in the damped-undamped case. Additionally, we show that the solutions first defined by the weak formulation, in fact have higher Sobolev space regularity.
This manuscript focus on in the transmission problem for one dimensional waves with nonlinear weights on the frictional damping and time-varying delay. We prove global existence of solutions using Kato's variable norm technique and we show the exponential stability by the energy method with the construction of a suitable Lyapunov functional.
In this paper, we investigate the stabilization of a locally coupled wave equations with local viscoelastic damping of past history type acting only in one equation via non smooth coefficients. First, using a general criteria of Arendt-Batty, we prove the strong stability of our system. Second, using a frequency domain approach combined with the multiplier method, we establish the exponential stability of the solution if and only if the two waves have the same speed of propagation. In case of different speed propagation, we prove that the energy of our system decays polynomially with rate 1/t.…
We develop a rapid and accurate contour method for the solution of time-fractional PDEs. The method inverts the Laplace transform via an optimised stable quadrature rule, suitable for infinite-dimensional operators, whose error decreases like $\exp(-cN/\log(N))$ for $N$ quadrature points. The method is parallisable, avoids having to resolve singularities of the solution as $t\downarrow 0$, and avoids the large memory consumption that can be a challenge for time-stepping methods applied to time-fractional PDEs. The ODEs resulting from quadrature are solved using adaptive sparse spectral methods…
Modal stability analysis provides information about the long-time growth or decay of small-amplitude perturbations around a steady-state solution of a dynamical system. In fluid flows, exponentially growing perturbations can initiate departure from laminar flow and trigger transition to turbulence. Although flow of a Newtonian fluid through a pipe is linearly stable for very large values of the Reynolds number ($Re \sim 10^7$), a transition to turbulence often occurs for $Re$ as low as $1500$. When a dilute polymer solution is used in the place of a Newtonian fluid, the transitional value of t…
Railway tracks rest on a foundation known for exhibiting nonlinear viscoelastic behavior. Railway track deflections are modeled by a semilinear partial differential equation. This paper studies the stability of solutions to this equation in presence of an input. With the aid of a suitable Lyapunov function, existence and exponential stability of classical solutions is established for certain inputs. The Lyapunov function is further used to find an a-priori estimate of the solutions, and also to study the input-to-state stability (ISS) of mild solutions.
We consider the transmission problem for a coupled system of undamped and structurally damped plate equations in two sufficiently smooth and bounded subdomains. It is shown that, independently of the size of the damped part, the damping is strong enough to produce uniform exponential decay of the energy of the coupled system.
We consider the Klein-Gordon system posed in an inhomogeneous medium with smooth boundary subject to a local viscoelastic damping distributed around a neighborhoodof the boundary according to the Geometric Control Condition. We show that the energy of the system goes uniformly and exponentially to zero for all initial data of finite energy taken in bounded sets of finite energy phase-space. For this purpose, refined microlocal analysis arguments are considered by exploiting ideas due to Burq and Gerard . By using sharp Carleman estimates we prove a unique continuation property for coupled syst…
We construct a specific family of eigenfunctions for a Laplace operator with coefficients having a jump across an interface. These eigenfunctions have an exponential concentration arbitrarily close to the interface, and therefore could be considered as whispering gallery modes. The proof is based on an appropriate Agmon estimate. We deduce as a corollary that the quantitative unique continuation result for waves propagating in singular media proved by the author in [Fil22] is optimal.
We study the transmission problem in bounded domains with dissipative boundary conditions. Under some natural assumptions, we prove uniform bounds of the corresponding resolvents on the real axis at high frequency, and as a consequence, we obtain free of eigenvalues regions. As an application, we get exponential decay of the energy of the solutions of the correpsonding mixed boundary value problems.
