We compute R-charges of the BPS-monopole operators in $\mathcal{N} = 3$ $\widehat{ADE}$ Chern-Simons quiver gauge theories, along the lines of the work of Benna, Klebanov and Klose in \cite{bkk}. These theories have a weakly coupled UV completion in terms of $\mathcal{N}=3$ supersymmetric Chern-Simons Yang-Mills theories. In the UV limit the monopole operators are well approximated by classical solutions. We construct classical BPS and anti-BPS monopole solutions to these theories which preserve $\frac{1}{3}$ supersymmetry all along the RG flow. We compute the $SU(2)_R$ charges in these backgrounds and show that the smallest possible value of quantised $SU(2)_R$ charge is zero in each quiver theory.
We study 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons (CS) quiver theories on $S^3$ and $Σ_{\mathfrak{g}}\times S^1$. Using localization results, we examine their partition functions in the large rank limit and requiring the resulting matrix models to be local, find a large class of quiver theories that include quivers in one-to-one correspondence with the $\widehat{ADE}$ Dynkin diagrams. We compute explicitly the partition function on $S^3$ for $\widehat{D}$ quivers and that on $Σ_{\mathfrak{g}}\times S^1$ for $\widehat{AD}$ quivers, which lead to certain predictions for their holographic duals. We also p…
We obtain an integral formula for the volume of non-toric tri-Sasaki Einstein manifolds arising from nonabelian hyperkahler quotients. The derivation is based on equivariant localization and generalizes existing formulas for Abelian quotients, which lead to toric manifolds. The formula is particularly valuable in the context of AdS$_{4}\times Y_{7}$ vacua of M-theory and their field theory duals. As an application, we consider 3d $\mathcal N=3$ Chern-Simons theories with affine ADE quivers. While the $\widehat A$ series corresponds to toric $Y_{7}$, the $\widehat D$ and $\widehat E$ series are…
In this talk, we discuss four-dimensional N=1 affine $ADE$ quiver gauge models using the geometric engineering method in M-theory on $G_2$ manifolds with K3 fibrations.
We derive Seiberg-Witten like equations encoding the dynamics of N=2 ADE quiver gauge theories in presence of a non-trivial Omega-background along a two dimensional plane. The epsilon-deformed prepotential and the chiral correlators of the gauge theory are extracted from difference equations that can be thought as a non-commutative (or quantum) version of the Seiberg-Witten curves for the quiver.
We show that the Higgs branch of a four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory, with gauge and matter content summarised by an ADE quiver diagram, is identical to the generalised Coulomb branch of a four-dimensional superconformal strongly coupled gauge theory with ADE global symmetry. This equivalence suggests the existence of a mirror symmetry between the quiver theories and the strongly coupled theories.
Based on mirror symmetry, we discuss geometric engineering of N=1 ADE quiver models from F-theory compactifications on elliptic K3 surfaces fibered over certain four-dimensional base spaces. The latter are constructed as intersecting 4-cycles according to ADE Dynkin diagrams, thereby mimicking the construction of Calabi-Yau threefolds used in geometric engineering in type II superstring theory. Matter is incorporated by considering D7-branes wrapping these 4-cycles. Using a geometric procedure referred to as folding, we discuss how the corresponding physics can be converted into a scenario wit…

We compute superconformal indices for $\mathcal{N} = 3$ $\hat{ADE}$ Chern-Simons quiver gauge theories with a product gauge group $\prod_i U(N)_i$, using the method of supersymmetric localization. We also perform a large $N$ analysis of the index. This index includes contribution from non zero magnetic flux sector. The fact that these theories have a weakly coupled UV completion in terms of $\mathcal{N}= 3$ supersymmetric Chern-Simons Yang-Mills theories enables us to apply the localization technique. Such theories have dual M-theory description on $\mathrm{AdS}_4\times M_7$, where $M_7$ is a …
Mirror symmetry, a three dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ IR duality, has been studied in detail for quiver gauge theories of the $ADE$-type (as well as their affine versions) with unitary gauge groups. The $A$-type quivers (also known as linear quivers) and the associated mirror dualities have a particularly simple realization in terms of a Type IIB system of D3-D5-NS5-branes. In this paper, we present a systematic field theory prescription for constructing 3d mirror pairs beyond the $ADE$ quiver gauge theories, starting from a dual pair of $A$-type quivers with unitary gauge groups. The construct…
Understanding the map of line defects in a Quantum Field Theory under a given duality is generically a difficult problem. This paper is the second in a series which aims to address this question in the context of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ mirror symmetry. A general prescription for constructing vortex defects and their mirror maps in quiver gauge theories beyond the $A$-type was presented by the author in an earlier paper [arxiv:2103.01243], where specific examples involving $D$-type and affine $D$-type quivers were discussed. In this paper, we apply the aforementioned prescription to construct a fam…
We construct level one dominant representations of the affine Kac-Moody algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_k$ on the equivariant cohomology groups of moduli spaces of rank one framed sheaves on the orbifold compactification of the minimal resolution $X_k$ of the $A_{k-1}$ toric singularity $\mathbb{C}^2/\mathbb{Z}_k$. We show that the direct sum of the fundamental classes of these moduli spaces is a Whittaker vector for $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_k$, which proves the AGT correspondence for pure $\mathcal{N}=2$ $U(1)$ gauge theory on $X_k$. We consider Carlsson-Okounkov type Ext-bundles over produc…
Dijkgraaf and Vafa have conjectured the correspondences between topological string theories, ${\cal N}=1$ gauge theories and matrix models. By the use of this conjecture, we calculate the quantum deformations of Calabi-Yau threefolds with ADE singularities from ADE multi-matrix models. We obtain the effective superpotentials of the dual quiver gauge theories in terms of the geometric engineering for the deformed geometries. We find the Veneziano-Yankielowicz terms in the effective superpotentials.
We study a triangulated category of graded matrix factorizations for a polynomial of type ADE. We show that it is equivalent to the derived category of finitely generated modules over the path algebra of the corresponding Dynkin quiver. Also, we discuss a special stability condition for the triangulated category in the sense of T. Bridgeland, which is naturally defined by the grading.
Motivated by studies on 4d black holes and q-deformed 2d Yang Mills theory, and borrowing ideas from compact geometry of the blowing up of affine ADE singularities, we build a class of local Calabi-Yau threefolds (CY^{3}) extending the local 2-torus model \mathcal{O}(m)\oplus \mathcal{O}(-m)\to T^{2\text{}} considered in hep-th/0406058 to test OSV conjecture. We first study toric realizations of T^{2} and then build a toric representation of X_{3} using intersections of local Calabi-Yau threefolds \mathcal{O}(m)\oplus \mathcal{O}(-m-2)\to \mathbb{P}^{1}. We develop the 2d \mathcal{N}=2 linear …
Inspired by Cachazo, Katz and Vafa (``Geometric transitions and $\mathcal {N}=1$ quiver theories'' (hep-th/0108120)), we examine representations of ``${N}=1$ quivers'' arising from string theory. We derive some mathematical consequences of the physics, and show that these results are a natural extension of Gabriel's ADE theorem. Extending the usual ADE case that relates quiver representations to curves on surfaces, we relate these new quiver representations to curves on threefolds.
We study the BMN correspondence between certain Penrose limits of type IIB superstrings on pp-wave orbifolds with $ADE$ geometries, and the set of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal field theories constructed as quiver gauge models classified by finite $ADE$ Lie algebras and affine $\hat{ADE}$ Kac-Moody algebras. These models have 16 preserved supercharges and are based on systems of D3-branes and wrapped D5- and D7-branes. We derive explicitly the metrics of these pp-wave orbifolds and show that the BMN extension requires, in addition to D5-D5 open strings in bi-fundamental repre…
We compute the planar limit of both the free energy and the expectation value of the $1/2$ BPS Wilson loop for four dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ superconformal quiver theories, with a product of SU($N$)s as gauge group and bi-fundamental matter. Supersymmetric localization reduces the problem to a multi-matrix model, that we rewrite in the zero-instanton sector as an effective action involving an infinite number of double-trace terms, determined by the relevant extended Cartan matrix. We find that the results, as in the case of $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs with a simple gauge group, can be written as sum…
This paper classifies a class of holomorphic D-branes, closely related to framed torsion-free sheaves, on threefolds fibered in resolved ADE surfaces over a general curve C, in terms of representations with relations of a twisted Kronheimer--Nakajima-type quiver in the category Coh(C) of coherent sheaves on C. For the local Calabi--Yau case C\cong\A^1 and special choice of framing, one recovers the N=1 ADE quiver studied by Cachazo--Katz--Vafa.
M-theory on a Calabi-Yau threefold admitting a small resolution gives rise to an Abelian vector multiplet and a charged hypermultiplet. We introduce into this picture a procedure to construct threefolds that naturally host matter with electric charges up to six. These are built as families of Du Val ADE surfaces (or ALE spaces), and the possible charges correspond to the Dynkin labels of the adjoint of the ADE algebra. In the case of charge two, we give a new derivation of the answer originally obtained by Curto and Morrison, and explicitly relate this construction to the Morrison-Park geometr…
Let $\{A_j|j=0,1,...,rank(g)\}$ be the fundamental generators of the generalized $q-$Onsager algebra $\cal O_{q}(\widehat{g})$ introduced in \cite{BB1}, where $\widehat{g}$ is a simply-laced affine Lie algebra. New relations between certain monomials of the fundamental generators - indexed by the integer $r\in\mathbb{Z}^{+}$ - are conjectured. These relations can be seen as deformed analogues of Lusztig's $r-$th higher order $q-$Serre relations associated with ${\cal U}_q({\widehat g})$, which are recovered as special cases. The relations are proven for $r\leq 5$. For $r$ generic, several supp…
We consider four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories based on ADE quiver diagrams. We use the procedure of hep-th/0206079 and compute the exact anomalous dimensions of operators with large U(1)_R charge to all orders in perturbation in the planar limit. The results are in agreement with the string computation in the dual pp-wave backgrounds.
Starting from the $\mathcal{N}=2$ SYM$_{4}$ quiver theory living on wrapped $% N_{i}D5$ branes around $S_{i}^{2}$ spheres of deformed ADE fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds (CY3) and considering deformations using \textit{% massive} vector multiplets, we explicitly build a new class of $\mathcal{N}% =1 $ quiver gauge theories. In these models, the quiver gauge group $% \prod_{i}U(N_{i}) $ is spontaneously broken down to $% \prod_{i}SU(N_{i}) $ and Kahler deformations are shown to be given by the real part of the integral $(2,1) $ form of CY3. We also give the superfield correspondence between the $…
We consider N=3 supersymmetric Chern-Simons (CS) theories that contain product U(N) gauge groups and bifundamental matter fields. Using the matrix model of Kapustin, Willett and Yaakov, we examine the Euclidean partition function of these theories on an S^3 in the large N limit. We show that the only such CS theories for which the long range forces between the eigenvalues cancel have quivers which are in one-to-one correspondence with the simply laced affine Dynkin diagrams. As the A_n series was studied in detail before, in this paper we compute the partition function for the D_4 quiver. The …
We use large N duality to study brane/anti-brane configurations on a class of Calabi-Yau manifolds. With only branes present, the Calabi-Yau manifolds in question give rise to N=2 ADE quiver theories deformed by superpotential terms. We show that the large N duality conjecture of hep-th/0610249 reproduces correctly the known qualitative features of the brane/anti-brane physics. In the supersymmetric case, the gauge theories have Seiberg dualities which are represented as flops in the geometry. Moreover, the holographic dual geometry encodes the whole RG flow of the gauge theory. In the non-sup…
We introduce a new elliptic quantum toroidal algebra $U_{q,t,p}(gl_{1,tor})$. Various representations in the quantum toroidal algebra $U_{q,t}(gl_{1,tor})$ are extended to the elliptic case including the level (0,0) representation realized by using the elliptic Ruijsenaars difference operator. Intertwining operators of $U_{q,t,p}(gl_{1,tor})$-modules w.r.t. the Drinfeld comultiplication are also constructed. We show that $U_{q,t,p}(gl_{1,tor})$ gives a realization of the affine quiver $W$-algebra $W_{q,t}(Γ(\widehat{A}_0))$ proposed by Kimura-Pestun. This realization turns out to be useful to …
We consider general 5d $SU(N)$ quiver gauge theories whose nodes form an ADE Dynkin diagram of type $G$. Each node has $SU(N_i)$ gauge group of general rank, Chern-Simons level $κ_i$ and additional $w_i$ fundamentals. When the total flavor number at each node is less than or equal to $2N_i-2|κ_i|$, we give general rules under which the symmetries associated to instanton currents are enhanced to $G \times G$ or a subgroup of it in the UV 5d superconformal theory. When the total flavor number violates that condition at some of the nodes, further enhancement of flavor symmetries occurs. In partic…
In this paper we study compactifications of ADE type conformal matter, N M5 branes probing ADE singularity, on torus with flux for global symmetry. We systematically construct the four dimensional theories by first going to five dimensions and studying interfaces. We claim that certain interfaces can be associated with turning on flux in six dimensions. The interface models when compactified on a circle comprise building blocks for constructing four dimensional models associated to flux compactifications of six dimensional theories on a torus. The theories in four dimensions turn out to be qui…
We consider N = 3 supersymmetric Chern-Simons gauge theories with product unitary and orthosymplectic groups and bifundamental and fundamental fields. We study the partition functions on an S^3 by using the Kapustin-Willett-Yaakov matrix model. The saddlepoint equations in a large N limit lead to a constraint that the long range forces between the eigenvalues must cancel; the resulting quiver theories are of affine Dynkin type. We introduce a folding/unfolding trick which lets us, at the level of the large N matrix model, (i) map quivers with orthosymplectic groups to those with unitary groups…
In this paper we study the BPS state counting in the geometry of local obstructed curve with normal bundle O+O(-2). We find that the BPS states have a framed quiver description. Using this quiver description along with the Seiberg duality and the localization techniques, we can compute the BPS state indices in different chambers dictated by stability parameter assignments. This provides a well-defined method to compute the generalized Donaldson-Thomas invariants. This method can be generalized to other affine ADE quiver theories.
We use F-theory to classify possibly all six-dimensional superconformal field theories (SCFTs). This involves a two step process: We first classify all possible tensor branches allowed in F-theory (which correspond to allowed collections of contractible spheres) and then classify all possible configurations of seven-branes wrapped over them. We describe the first step in terms of "atoms" joined into "radicals" and "molecules," using an analogy from chemistry. The second step has an interpretation via quiver-type gauge theories constrained by anomaly cancellation. A very surprising outcome of o…
We study the basic features of BPS quiver mutations in 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric quantum field theory with $G=ADE$ gauge symmetries.\ We show, for these gauge symmetries, that there is an isotropy group $\mathcal{G}_{Mut}^{G}$ associated to a set of quiver mutations capturing information about the BPS spectra. In the strong coupling limit, it is shown that BPS chambers correspond to finite and closed groupoid orbits with an isotropy symmetry group $\mathcal{G}_{strong}^{G}$ isomorphic to the discrete dihedral groups $Dih_{2h_{G}}$ contained in Coxeter$(G) $ with $% h_{G}$ the Coxeter n…
The inflaton necessary to implement the mechanism of inflationary cosmology has natural candidates in quiver gauge theory. We discuss the dimensionless coefficients of quartic couplings and enumerate scalars which are singlet under the low-energy gauge group. The inflaton mass is generally predicted to be in the TeV region, close to 4 TeV for one specific unified model. A quartic inflaton potential, and a mutated hybrid inflation, are discussed. They can give adequate inflation and appropriate fluctuations but different spectral indices.
We present evidence that for each ADE Lie group G there is an infinite tower of 4D N=2 SCFTs, which we label as D(G,s) (with s a positive integer), having (at least) flavor symmetry G. For G=SU(2), D(SU(2),s) coincides with the Argyres--Douglas model of type D_{s+1}, while for larger flavor groups the models are new (but for a few previously known examples). When its flavor symmetry G is gauged, D(G,s) contributes to the Yang-Mills beta-function as s/[2(s+1)] adjoint hypermultiplets. The argument is based on a combination of Type IIB geometric engineering and the categorical deconstruction of …
We explore the relationship between four-dimensional N=2 quantum field theories and their associated BPS quivers. For a wide class of theories including super-Yang-Mills theories, Argyres-Douglas models, and theories defined by M5-branes on punctured Riemann surfaces, there exists a quiver which implicitly characterizes the field theory. We study various aspects of this correspondence including the quiver interpretation of flavor symmetries, gauging, decoupling limits, and field theory dualities. In general a given quiver describes only a patch of the moduli space of the field theory, and a ke…
We study a set of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) $\widehatΓ(G)$ labeled by a pair of simply-laced Lie groups $Γ$ and $G$. They are constructed out of gauging a number of $\mathcal{D}_p(G)$ and $(G, G)$ conformal matter SCFTs; therefore they do not have Lagrangian descriptions in general. For $Γ= D_4, E_6, E_7, E_8$ and some special choices of $G$, the resulting theories have identical central charges $(a=c)$ without taking any large $N$ limit. Moreover, we find that the Schur indices for such theories can be written in terms of that of $\mathcal{N}=4$ su…
M5-branes probing an ADE singularity lead to 6D SCFTs with (1,0) supersymmetry. On the tensor branch, the M5-branes specify domain walls of a 7D Super Yang-Mills theory with gauge group G of ADE-type, thus providing conformal matter for a broad class of generalized quiver theories. Additionally, these theories have G x G flavor symmetry, and a corresponding Higgs branch. In this note we use the F-theory realization of these theories to calculate the scaling dimension of the operator parameterizing seven-brane recombination, i.e. motion of the stack of M5-branes off of the orbifold singularity.…
We present a general prescription for constructing 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ Lagrangians for the IR SCFTs that arise from the circle reduction of a large class of Argyres-Douglas theories. The resultant Lagrangian gives a realization of the Higgs branch of the 4d SCFT as a quiver variety, up to a set of decoupled interacting SCFTs with empty Higgs branches. As representative examples, we focus on the families $(A_{p-N-1}, A_{N-1})$ and $D_p(SU(N))$. The Lagrangian in question is generically a non-ADE-type quiver gauge theory involving only unitary gauge nodes with fundamental and bifundamental hyperm…
We point out two extensions of the relation between matrix models, topological strings and N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories. First, we note that by considering double scaling limits of unitary matrix models one can obtain large N duals of the local Calabi-Yau geometries that engineer N=2 gauge theories. In particular, a double scaling limit of the Gross-Witten one-plaquette lattice model gives the SU(2) Seiberg-Witten solution, including its induced gravitational corrections. Secondly, we point out that the effective superpotential terms for N=1 ADE quiver gauge theories is similarly computed…
A single M5-brane probing G, an ADE-type singularity, leads to a system which has G x G global symmetry and can be viewed as "bifundamental" (G,G) matter. For the A_N series, this leads to the usual notion of bifundamental matter. For the other cases it corresponds to a strongly interacting (1,0) superconformal system in six dimensions. Similarly, an ADE singularity intersecting the Horava-Witten wall leads to a superconformal matter system with E_8 x G global symmetry. Using the F-theory realization of these theories, we elucidate the Coulomb/tensor branch of (G,G') conformal matter. This lea…

We consider SU(2)-equivariant dimensional reduction of Yang-Mills theory on manifolds of the form $M\times S^3/Γ$, where $M$ is a smooth manifold and $S^3/Γ$ is a three-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein orbifold. We obtain new quiver gauge theories on $M$ whose quiver bundles are based on the affine ADE Dynkin diagram associated to $Γ$. We relate them to those arising through translationally-invariant dimensional reduction over the associated Calabi-Yau cones $C(S^3/Γ)$ which are based on McKay quivers and ADHM matrix models, and to those arising through SU(2)-equivariant dimensional reduction over …
This is a companion paper of arXiv:1601.03586. We study Coulomb branches of unframed and framed quiver gauge theories of type $ADE$. In the unframed case they are isomorphic to the moduli space of based rational maps from ${\mathbb C}P^1$ to the flag variety. In the framed case they are slices in the affine Grassmannian and their generalization. In the appendix, written jointly with Joel Kamnitzer, Ryosuke Kodera, Ben Webster, and Alex Weekes, we identify the quantized Coulomb branch with the truncated shifted Yangian.
The map of half-BPS line defects under mirror symmetry has previously been worked out for 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ linear quivers with unitary gauge groups, where these defects have a clear realization in terms of a brane picture in Type IIB String Theory. In this work, we initiate the study of line defects and the associated mirror maps for more general 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver gauge theories from a QFT approach, using the $S$-type operations introduced in \cite{Dey:2020hfe}. In particular, our construction does not rely on any String Theory realization of the quiver gauge theories and the defects…
We engineer U(1)^n Chern-Simons type theories describing fractional quantum Hall solitons (QHS) in 1+2 dimensions from M-theory compactified on eight dimensional hyper-Kähler manifolds as target space of N=4 sigma model. Based on M-theory/Type IIA duality, the systems can be modeled by considering D6-branes wrapping intersecting Hirzebruch surfaces F_0's arranged as ADE Dynkin Diagrams and interacting with higher dimensional R-R gauge fields. In the case of finite Dynkin quivers, we recover well known values of the filling factor observed experimentally including Laughlin, Haldane and Jain ser…
We show how aspects of the R-charge of N=2 CFTs in four dimensions are encoded in the q-deformed Kontsevich-Soibelman monodromy operator, built from their dyon spectra. In particular, the monodromy operator should have finite order if the R-charges are rational. We verify this for a number of examples including those arising from pairs of ADE singularities on a Calabi-Yau threefold (some of which are dual to 6d (2,0) ADE theories suitably fibered over the plane). In these cases we find that our monodromy maps to that of the Y-systems, studied by Zamolodchikov in the context of TBA. Moreover we…
Mirror symmetry is a type of infrared duality in 3D quantum field theory that relates the low-energy dynamics of two distinct ultraviolet descriptions. Though first discovered in the supersymmetric context, it has far-reaching implications for understanding nonperturbative physics in general 3D quantum field theories. We study mirror symmetry in 3D $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric field theories whose Higgs or Coulomb branches realize $D$- and $E$-type Kleinian singularities in the $ADE$ classification, generalizing previous work on the $A$-type case. Such theories include the $SU(2)$ gauge theo…
