D-branes, surface operators, and ADHM quiver representations

A supersymmetric quantum mechanical model is constructed for BPS states bound to surface operators in five dimensional SU(r) gauge theories using D-brane engineering. This model represents the effective action of a certain D2-brane configuration, and is naturally obtained by dimensional reduction of a quiver $(0,2)$ gauged linear sigma model. Calabi-Yau Products: Graded Quivers for General Toric Calabi-Yaus

The open string sector of the topological B-model on CY $(m+2)$-folds is described by $m$-graded quivers with superpotentials. This correspondence generalizes the connection between CY $(m+2)$-folds and gauge theories on the worldvolume of D$(5-2m)$-branes for $m=0,\ldots,3$ to arbitrary $m$. In this paper we introduce the Calabi-Yau product, a new algorithm that starting from the known quiver theories for a pair of toric CY$_{m+2}$ and CY$_{n+2}$ produces the quiver theory for a related CY$_{m+n+3}$. Stratifications for moduli of sheaves and moduli of quiver representations

We study the relationship between two stratifications on parameter spaces for coherent sheaves and for quiver representations: a stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types and a stratification arising from the geometric invariant theory construction of the associated moduli spaces of semistable objects. For quiver representations, both stratifications coincide, but this is not quite true for sheaves. Self-dual quiver moduli and orientifold Donaldson-Thomas invariants

Motivated by the counting of BPS states in string theory with orientifolds, we study moduli spaces of self-dual representations of a quiver with contravariant involution. We develop Hall module techniques to compute the number of points over finite fields of moduli stacks of semistable self-dual representations. Wall-crossing formulas relating these counts for different choices of stability parameters recover the wall-crossing of orientifold BPS/Donaldson-Thomas invariants predicted in the physics literature. Shifted Quiver Yangians and Representations from BPS Crystals

We introduce a class of new algebras, the shifted quiver Yangians, as the BPS algebras for type IIA string theory on general toric Calabi-Yau three-folds. We construct representations of the shifted quiver Yangian from general subcrystals of the canonical crystal. We derive our results via equivariant localization for supersymmetric quiver quantum mechanics for various framed quivers, where the framings are determined by the shape of the subcrystals. Representations of cohomological Hall algebras and Donaldson-Thomas theory with classical structure groups

We introduce a new class of representations of the cohomological Hall algebras of Kontsevich and Soibelman, which we call cohomological Hall modules, or CoHM for short. These representations are constructed from self-dual representations of a quiver with contravariant involution $σ$ and provide a mathematical model for the space of BPS states in orientifold string theory. MPS degeneration formula for quiver moduli and refined GW/Kronecker correspondence

Motivated by string-theoretic arguments Manschot, Pioline and Sen discovered a new remarkable formula for the Poincare polynomial of a smooth compact moduli space of stable quiver representations which effectively reduces to the abelian case (i.e. thin dimension vectors). We first prove a motivic generalization of this formula, valid for arbitrary quivers, dimension vectors and stabilities. Calabi-Yau Varieties: from Quiver Representations to Dessins d'Enfants

The connections amongst (1) quivers whose representation varieties are Calabi-Yau, (2) the combinatorics of bipartite graphs on Riemann surfaces, and (3) the geometry of mirror symmetry have engendered a rich subject at whose heart is the physics of gauge/string theories. We review the various parts of this intricate story in some depth, for a mathematical audience without assumption of any knowledge of physics, emphasizing a plethora of results residing at the intersection between algebraic geometry, representation theory and number theory.

Quiver representations in toric geometry

This article is based on my lecture notes from summer schools at the Universities of Utah (June 2007) and Warwick (September 2007). We provide an introduction to explicit methods in the study of moduli spaces of quiver representations and derived categories arising in toric geometry. The first main goal is to present the noncommutative geometric approach to semiprojective toric varieties via quivers. Bases of representations of type A affine Lie algebras via quiver varieties and statistical mechanics

We relate two apparently different bases in the representations of affine Lie algebras of type A: one arising from statistical mechanics, the other from gauge theory. We show that the two are governed by the same combinatorics and therefore can be viewed as identical. In particular, we are able to give an alternative and much simpler geometric proof of a result of E. Date, M. Jimbo, A. Kuniba, T. Miwa and M.
