In this article, we are interested in an initial value optimal control problem for a evolutionary $p$-Laplace equation driven by multiplicative Lévy noise. We first present wellposedness of a weak solution by using an implicit time discretization of the problem, along with the Jakubowski version of the Skorokhod theorem for a non-metric space. We then formulate associated control problem, and establish existence of an optimal solution by using variational method and exploiting the convexity property of the cost functional.
We prove novel (local) square function/Carleson measure estimates for non-negative solutions to the evolutionary $p$-Laplace equation in the complement of parabolic Ahlfors-David regular sets. In the case of the heat equation, the Laplace equation as well as the $p$-Laplace equation, the corresponding square function estimates have proven fundamental in symmetry and inverse/free boundary type problems, and in particular in the study of (parabolic) uniform rectifiability. Though the implications of the square function estimates are less clear for the evolutionary $p$-Laplace equation, mainly du…
In this note, we study the asymptotic behavior, as $t$ tends to infinity, of the solution $u$ to the evolutionary damped $p$-Laplace equation \begin{equation*} u_{tt}+a\, u_t =Δ_p u \end{equation*} with Dirichlet boundary values. Let $u^*$ denote the stationary solution with same boundary values, then the $W^{1,p}$-norm of $u(t) - u^{*}$ decays for large $t$ like $t^{-\frac{1}{(p-1)p}}$, in the degenerate case $ p > 2$.
We consider a $p$-Laplace evolution problem with multiplicative noise on a bounded domain $D \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for $1<p< \infty$. The random initial data is merely integrable. Consequently, the key estimates are available with respect to truncations of the solution. We introduce the notion of renormalized solutions for multiplicative stochastic $p$-Laplace equations with $L^1$-initial data and study existence and uniqueness of solutions in this framework.
This thesis is concerned with the asymptotic behavior of solutions of stochastic $p$-Laplace equations driven by non-autonomous forcing on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Two cases are studied, with additive and multiplicative noise respectively. Estimates on the tails of solutions are used to overcome the non-compactness of Sobolev embeddings on unbounded domains, and prove asymptotic compactness of solution operators in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Using this result we prove the existence and uniqueness of random attractors in each case. Additionally, we show the upper semicontinuity of the attractor for the multip…
In this paper, we establish large deviation principle for the strong solution of evolutionary p-Laplace equation driven by small multiplicative Brownian noise, where the weak convergence approach plays a key role. Moreover, by using Girsanov transformation along with $L^1$-contraction approach, we show the quadratic transportation cost inequality for the strong solution of the underlying problem.
We show well-posedness of the $p$-Laplace evolution equation on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with square integrable random initial data for arbitrary $1<p<\infty$ and arbitrary space dimension $d\in\mathbb{N}$. The noise term on the right-hand side of the equation may be additive or multiplicative. Due to a lack of coercivity of the $p$-Laplace operator in the whole space, the possibility to apply well-known existence and uniqueness theorems in the classical functional setting is limited to certain values of $1<p<\infty$ and also depends on the space dimension $d$. We propose a framework of functional space…
We study quasilinear evolutionary partial integro-differential equations of second order which include time fractional $p$-Laplace equations of time order less than one. By means of suitable energy estimates and De Giorgi's iteration technique we establish results asserting the global boundedness of appropriately defined weak solutions of these problems. We also show that a maximum principle is valid for such equations.
We consider systems of stochastic evolutionary equations of the $p$-Laplace type. We establish convergence rates for a finite-element based space-time approximation, where the error is measured in a suitable quasi-norm. Under natural regularity assumptions on the solution, our main result provides linear convergence in space and convergence of order $α$ in time for all $α\in(0,\frac{1}{2})$. The key ingredient of our analysis is a random time-grid, which allows us to compensate for the lack of time regularity. Our theoretical results are confirmed by numerical experiments.
Here we design boundary feedback stabilizers to unbounded trajectories, for semi-linear stochastic heat equation with cubic non-linearity. The feedback controller is linear, given in a simple explicit form and involves only the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator. It is supported in a given open subset of the boundary of the domain. Via a rescaling argument, we transform the stochastic equation into a random deterministic one. Then, the simple form of the feedback, we propose here, allows to write the solution, of the random equation, in a mild formulation via a kernel. Appealing to a fixed…
In this article we investigate the temporal regularity of strong solutions to the stochastic $p$-\com{L}aplace system in the degenerate setting, $p \in [2,\infty)$, driven by a multiplicative nonlinear stochastic forcing. We establish $1/2$ time differentiability in an expontential Besov-Orlicz space for the solution process $u$. Furthermore, we prove $1/2$ time differentiability of the nonlinear gradient $|\nabla u|^{\frac{p-2}{2}} \nabla u$ in a Nikolskii space.
We study the Cauchy problem for the parabolic infinity Laplace equation. We prove a new comparison principle and obtain uniqueness of viscosity solutions in the class of functions with a polinomial growth at infinity, improving previous results obtained assuming a linear growth.
In this article, we consider mixed local and nonlocal Sobolev $(q,p)$-inequalities with extremal in the case $0<q<1<p<\infty$. We prove that the extremal of such inequalities is unique up to a multiplicative constant that is associated with a singular elliptic problem involving the mixed local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace operator. Moreover, it is proved that the mixed Sobolev inequalities are necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of weak solutions of such singular problems. As a consequence, a relation between the singular $p$-Laplace and mixed local and nonlocal $p$-Laplace equati…
In this article spatial and temporal regularity of the solution process of a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) of evolutionary type with nonlinear multiplicative trace class noise is analyzed.
We study the obstacle problem for the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation when the obstacle is discontinuous and without regularity in the time variable. Two quite different procedures yield the same solution.
I prove that the time derivative for the solution of the obstacle problem related to the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation exists in Sobolev's sense, provided that the given obstacle is smooth enough. We keep p > 2.
The time derivative (in the sense of distributions) of the solutions to the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation is proved to be a function in a local Lebesgue space.
We study the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation in the singular case 1 < p < 2. We prove that a weak solution has a time derivative in Sobolev's sense and that the time derivative is locally summable to some power > 1.
We consider a family of evolution equations that generalize the Peierls-Nabarro model for crystal dislocations. They can be seen as semilinear parabolic reaction-diffusion equations in which the diffusion is regulated by a fractional Laplace operator of order $2 s \in (0, 2)$ acting in one space dimension and the reaction is determined by a $1$-periodic multi-well potential. We construct solutions of these equations that represent the typical propagation of $N \ge 2$ equally oriented dislocations of size $1$. For large times, the dislocations occur around points that evolve according to a repu…
We study unbounded (viscosity) supersolutions of the Evolutionary p-Laplace Equation in the slow diffusion case. The supersolutions fall into two widely different classes, depending on whether they are locally summable to the power p-2 or not. Also the Porous Medium Equation is studied.
We study unbounded "supersolutions" of the Evolutionary $p$-Laplace equation with slow diffusion. They are the same functions as the viscosity supersolutions. A fascinating dichotomy prevails: either they are locally summable to the power $p-1+\tfrac{n}{p}-0$ or not summable to the power $p-2+0.$
We study the possibility of prescribing infinite initial values for solutions of the Evolutionary $p$-Laplace Equation in the fast diffusion case $p>2$. This expository note has been extracted from our previous work. When infinite values are prescribed on the whole initial surface, such solutions can exist only if the domain is a space-time cylinder.
In this paper we present a stochastic homogenization result for a class of Hilbert space evolutionary gradient systems driven by a quadratic dissipation potential and a $Λ$-convex energy functional featuring random and rapidly oscillating coefficients. Specific examples included in the result are Allen-Cahn type equations and evolutionary equations driven by the $p$-Laplace operator with $p\in (1,\infty)$. The homogenization procedure we apply is based on a stochastic two-scale convergence approach. In particular, we define a stochastic unfolding operator which can be considered as a random co…
The dynamics of a coagulation-fragmentation equation with multiplicative coagulation kernel and critical singular fragmentation is studied. In contrast to the coagulation equation, it is proved that fragmentation prevents the occurrence of the gelation phenomenon and a mass-conserving solution is constructed. The large time behavior of this solution is shown to be described by a self-similar solution. In addition, the second moment is finite for positive times whatever its initial value. The proof relies on the Laplace transform which maps the original equation to a first-order nonlinear hyper…
We discuss the issue of maximal regularity for evolutionary equations with non-autonomous coefficients. Here evolutionary equations are abstract partial-differential algebraic equations considered in Hilbert spaces. The catch is to consider time-dependent partial differential equations in an exponentially weighted Hilbert space. In passing, one establishes the time derivative as a continuously invertible, normal operator admitting a functional calculus with the Fourier--Laplace transformation providing the spectral representation. Here, the main result is then a regularity result for well-pose…
We prove the existence of random attractors for a large class of degenerate stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) perturbed by joint additive Wiener noise and real, linear multiplicative Brownian noise, assuming only the standard assumptions of the variational approach to SPDE with compact embeddings in the associated Gelfand triple. This allows spatially much rougher noise than in known results. The approach is based on a construction of strictly stationary solutions to related strongly monotone SPDE. Applications include stochastic generalized porous media equations, stochastic ge…
In this article we present a way of treating stochastic partial differential equations with multiplicative noise by rewriting them as stochastically perturbed evolutionary equations in the sense of \cite{picardbook}, where a general solution theory for deterministic evolutionary equations has been developed. This allows us to present a unified solution theory for a general class of SPDEs which we believe has great potential for further generalizations. We will show that many standard stochastic PDEs fit into this class as well as many other SPDEs such as the stochastic Maxwell equation and tim…
This work aims to prove the small time large deviation principle (LDP) for a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with locally monotone coefficients in generalized variational framework. The main result could be applied to demonstrate the small time LDP for various quasilinear and semilinear SPDEs such as stochastic porous media equations, stochastic $p$-Laplace equations, stochastic Burgers type equation, stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equation, stochastic power law fluid equation and stochastic Ladyzhenskaya model. In particular, our small time LDP result seems to be new i…
We study a large class of stochastic $p$-Laplace Allen-Cahn equations with singular potential. Under suitable assumptions on the (multiplicative-type) noise we first prove existence, uniqueness, and regularity of variational solutions. Then, we show that a random separation property holds, i.e. almost every trajectory is strictly separated in space and time from the potential barriers. The threshold of separation is random, and we further provide exponential estimates on the probability of separation from the barriers. Eventually, we exhibit a convergence-in-probability result for the random s…
The existence of random attractors for singular stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) perturbed by general additive noise is proven. The drift is assumed only to satisfy the standard assumptions of the variational approach to SPDE with compact embeddings in the Gelfand triple and singular coercivity. For ergodic, monotone, contractive random dynamical systems it is proven that the attractor consists of a single random point. In case of real, linear multiplicative noise finite time extinction is obtained. Applications include stochastic generalized fast diffusion equations and stocha…
Unique existence of analytically strong solutions to stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) with drift given by the subdifferential of a quasi-convex function and with general multiplicative noise is proven. The proof applies a genuinely new method of weighted Galerkin approximations based on the "distance" defined by the quasi-convex function. Spatial regularization of the initial condition analogous to the deterministic case is obtained. The results yield a unified framework which is applied to stochastic generalized porous media equations, stochastic generalized reaction diffusion…
We develop an asymptotic analysis of target fluxes in the three-dimensional (3D) narrow capture problem. The latter concerns a diffusive search process in which the targets are much smaller than the size of the search domain. The small target assumption allows us to use matched asymptotic expansions and Green's functions to solve the diffusion equation in Laplace space. In particular, we derive an asymptotic expansion of the Laplace transformed flux into each target in powers of the non-dimensionalized target size $ε$. One major advantage of working directly with fluxes is that one can generat…
We study existence and uniqueness of a variational solution in terms of stochastic variational inequalities (SVI) to stochastic nonlinear diffusion equations with a highly singular diffusivity term and multiplicative Stratonovich gradient-type noise. We derive a commutator relation for the unbounded noise coefficients in terms of a geometric Killing vector condition. The drift term is given by the total variation flow, respectively, by a singular $p$-Laplace-type operator. We impose nonlinear zero Neumann boundary conditions and precisely investigate their connection with the coefficient field…
We develop a functional framework suitable for the treatment of partial differential equations and variational problems on evolving families of Banach spaces. We propose a definition for the weak time derivative that does not rely on the availability of a Hilbertian structure and explore conditions under which spaces of weakly differentiable functions (with values in an evolving Banach space) relate to classical Sobolev--Bochner spaces. An Aubin--Lions compactness result is proved. We analyse concrete examples of function spaces over time-evolving spatial domains and hypersurfaces for which we…
