We show well-posedness of the $p$-Laplace evolution equation on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with square integrable random initial data for arbitrary $1<p<\infty$ and arbitrary space dimension $d\in\mathbb{N}$. The noise term on the right-hand side of the equation may be additive or multiplicative. Due to a lack of coercivity of the $p$-Laplace operator in the whole space, the possibility to apply well-known existence and uniqueness theorems in the classical functional setting is limited to certain values of $1<p<\infty$ and also depends on the space dimension $d$. We propose a framework of functional spaces which is independent of Sobolev space embeddings and space dimension. For additive noise, we show existence using a time discretization. Then, a fixed-point argument yields the result for multiplicative noise.
Ergodicity for local and nonlocal stochastic singular $p$-Laplace equations is proven, without restriction on the spatial dimension and for all $p\in[1,2)$. This generalizes previous results from [Gess, Tölle; J. Math. Pures Appl., 2014], [Liu, Tölle; Electron. Commun. Probab., 2011], [Liu; J. Evol. Equations, 2009]. In particular, the results include the multivalued case of the stochastic (nonlocal) total variation flow, which solves an open problem raised in [Barbu, Da Prato, Röckner; SIAM J. Math. Anal., 2009]. Moreover, under appropriate rescaling, the convergence of the unique invariant m…
In this paper, we establish large deviation principle for the strong solution of evolutionary p-Laplace equation driven by small multiplicative Brownian noise, where the weak convergence approach plays a key role. Moreover, by using Girsanov transformation along with $L^1$-contraction approach, we show the quadratic transportation cost inequality for the strong solution of the underlying problem.
We consider a $p$-Laplace evolution problem with multiplicative noise on a bounded domain $D \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for $1<p< \infty$. The random initial data is merely integrable. Consequently, the key estimates are available with respect to truncations of the solution. We introduce the notion of renormalized solutions for multiplicative stochastic $p$-Laplace equations with $L^1$-initial data and study existence and uniqueness of solutions in this framework.
In this article we investigate the temporal regularity of strong solutions to the stochastic $p$-\com{L}aplace system in the degenerate setting, $p \in [2,\infty)$, driven by a multiplicative nonlinear stochastic forcing. We establish $1/2$ time differentiability in an expontential Besov-Orlicz space for the solution process $u$. Furthermore, we prove $1/2$ time differentiability of the nonlinear gradient $|\nabla u|^{\frac{p-2}{2}} \nabla u$ in a Nikolskii space.
In this article, well-posedness of stochastic anisotropic $p$-Laplace equation driven by Lévy noise is shown. Such an equation in deterministic setting was considered by Lions [7]. The results obtained in this article can be applied to solve a large class of semilinear and quasilinear stochastic partial differential equations.
The stochastic $p$-Laplace equation with multiplicative transport noise is studied on the torus $\mathbb T^d\, (d\geq 2)$. It is shown that the dissipation is enhanced by transport noise in both the averaged sense and the pathwise sense.
Let $\mathbb K(\mathbb R^d)$ denote the cone of discrete Radon measures on $\mathbb R^d$. The gamma measure $\mathcal G$ is the probability measure on $\mathbb K(\mathbb R^d)$ which is a measure-valued Lévy process with intensity measure $s^{-1}e^{-s}\,ds$ on $(0,\infty)$. We study a class of Laplace-type operators in $L^2(\mathbb K(\mathbb R^d),\mathcal G)$. These operators are defined as generators of certain (local) Dirichlet forms. The main result of the papers is the essential self-adjointness of these operators on a set of `test' cylinder functions on $\mathbb K(\mathbb R^d)$.
We study nodal component count of the following Gaussian Laplace eigenfunctions: monochromatic random waves (MRW) on $\mathbb{R}^2$, arithmetic random waves (ARW) on $\mathbb{T}^2$ and random spherical harmonics (RSH) on $\mathbb{S}^2$. Exponential concentration for nodal component count of RSH on $\mathbb{S}^2$ and ARW on $\mathbb{T}^2$ were established by Nazarov-Sodin and Rozenshein respectively. We prove exponential concentration for nodal component count in the following three cases: MRW on growing Euclidean balls in $\mathbb{R}^2$; RSH and ARW on geodesic balls, in $\mathbb{S}^2$ and $\m…
We study a nonlinear stochastic partial differential equation whose solution is the conditional log-Laplace functional of a superprocess in a random environment. We establish its existence and uniqueness by smoothing out the nonlinear term and making use of the particle system representation developed by Kurtz and Xiong [Stochastic Process. Appl. 83 (1999) 103-126]. We also derive the Wong-Zakai type approximation for this equation. As an application, we give a direct proof of the moment formulas of Skoulakis and Adler [Ann. Appl. Probab. 11 (2001) 488-543].
Stochastic diffusion equation, which attained prominence with Einstein's work on Brownian motion at the beginning of the twentieth century, was first formulated by Laplace a century earlier as part of his work on Central Limit Theorem. Between 1807 and 1811, Fourier's work on heat diffusion, and Laplace'swork on probability influenced and inspired each other. This brief period of interaction between these two illustrious figures must be considered remarkable for its profound impact on subsequent developments in mathematical physics, probability theory and pure analysis.
We consider a stochastic wave equation in spatial dimension three, driven by a Gaussian noise, white in time and with a stationary spatial covariance. The free terms are nonlinear with Lipschitz continuous coefficients. Under suitable conditions on the covariance measure, Dalang and Sanz-Solé [Memoirs of the AMS, Vol 199, 2009] have proved the existence of a random field solution with Hölder continuous sample paths, jointly in both arguments, time and space. By perturbing the driving noise with a multiplicative parameter $ε\in]0,1]$, a family of probability laws corresponding to the respective…
Given a bounded $\mathcaligr{C}^2$ domain $G\subset{\mathbb{R}}^m$, functions $g\in\mathcaligr{C}(\partial G,{\mathbb{R}})$ and $h\in\mathcaligr {C}(\bar{G},{\mathbb{R}}\setminus\{0\})$, let $u$ denote the unique viscosity solution to the equation $-2Δ_{\infty}u=h$ in $G$ with boundary data $g$. We provide a representation for $u$ as the value of a two-player zero-sum stochastic differential game.
In this paper we express tau functions for the Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation, as Laplace transforms of iterated Skorohod integrals. Our main tool is the notion of Fredholm determinant of an integral operator. Our result extends the paper of Ikeda and Taniguchi who obtained a stochastic representation of tau functions for the $N$-soliton solutions of KdV as the Laplace transform of a quadratic functional of $N$ independent Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. Our general result goes beyond the $N$-soliton case and enables us to consider a non soliton solution of KdV associated to a Gaussian process…
We formulate a stochastic differential game in continuous time that represents the unique viscosity solution to a terminal value problem for a parabolic partial differential equation involving the normalized $p(x,t)$-Laplace operator. Our game is formulated in a way that covers the full range $1<p(x,t)<\infty$. Furthermore, we prove the uniqueness of viscosity solutions to our equation in the whole space under suitable assumptions.
We provide a general framework for the stability of solutions to stochastic partial differential equations with respect to perturbations of the drift. More precisely, we consider stochastic partial differential equations with drift given as the subdifferential of a convex function and prove continuous dependence of the solutions with regard to random Mosco convergence of the convex potentials. In particular, we identify the concept of stochastic variational inequalities (SVI) as a well-suited framework to study such stability properties. The generality of the developed framework is then laid o…
We study a version of the stochastic "tug-of-war" game, played on graphs and smooth domains, with the empty set of terminal states. We prove that, when the running payoff function is shifted by an appropriate constant, the values of the game after n steps converge in the continuous case and the case of finite graphs with loops. Using this we prove the existence of solutions to the infinity Laplace equation with vanishing Neumann boundary condition.
In this paper we develop a method to solve evolution equations on Gelfand triples with time-fractional derivative based on monotonicity techniques. Applications include deterministic and stochastic quasi-linear partial differential equations with time-fractional derivatives, including time-fractional (stochastic) porous media equations (including the case where the Laplace operator is also fractional) and $p$-Laplace equations as special cases.
Birth-and-death models are now a common mathematical tool to describe branching patterns observed in real-world phylogenetic trees. Liggett and Schinazi (2009) is one such example. The authors propose a simple birth-and-death model that is compatible with phylogenetic trees of both influenza and HIV, depending on the birth rate parameter. An interesting special case of this model is the critical case where the birth rate equals the death rate. This is a non-trivial situation and to study its asymptotic behaviour we employed the Laplace transform. With this we correct the proof of Liggett and S…
We consider the infinite-dimensional Lie group $\mathfrak G$ which is the semidirect product of the group of compactly supported diffeomorphisms of a Riemannian manifold $X$ and the commutative multiplicative group of functions on $X$. The group $\mathfrak G$ naturally acts on the space $\mathbb M(X)$ of Radon measures on $X$. We would like to define a Laplace operator associated with a natural representation of $\mathfrak G$ in $L^2(\mathbb M(X),μ)$. Here $μ$ is assumed to be the law of a measure-valued Lévy process. A unitary representation of the group cannot be determined, since the measur…
We implement a Laplace method for the renormalised solution to the generalised 2D Parabolic Anderson Model (gPAM) driven by a small spatial white noise. Our work rests upon Hairer's theory of regularity structures which allows to generalise classical ideas of Azencott and Ben Arous on path space as well as Aida and Inahama and Kawabi on rough path space to the space of models. The technical cornerstone of our argument is a Taylor expansion of the solution in the noise intensity parameter: We prove precise bounds for its terms and the remainder and use them to estimate asymptotically irrevelant…
The Freidlin-Wentzell large deviation principle is established for the distributions of stochastic evolution equations with general monotone drift and small multiplicative noise. As examples, the main results are applied to derive the large deviation principle for different types of SPDE such as stochastic reaction-diffusion equations, stochastic porous media equations and fast diffusion equations, and the stochastic p-Laplace equation in Hilbert space. The weak convergence approach is employed in the proof to establish the Laplace principle, which is equivalent to the large deviation principl…
We present the idea of intertwining of two diffusions by Feynman-Kac operators. We present some variations and implications of the method and give examples of its applications. Among others, it turns out to be a very useful tool for finding the expectations of some functionals of diffusions, especially for computing the Laplace transforms of stochastic processes. The examples give new results on marginal distributions of many stochastic processes including a generalized squared Bessel processes and joint distribution for squared Bessel bridge and its integral - the close formulae of the Laplac…
We prove the existence of random attractors for a large class of degenerate stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) perturbed by joint additive Wiener noise and real, linear multiplicative Brownian noise, assuming only the standard assumptions of the variational approach to SPDE with compact embeddings in the associated Gelfand triple. This allows spatially much rougher noise than in known results. The approach is based on a construction of strictly stationary solutions to related strongly monotone SPDE. Applications include stochastic generalized porous media equations, stochastic ge…

This paper is devoted to investigating the Freidlin-Wentzell's large deviation principle for a class of McKean-Vlasov quasilinear SPDEs perturbed by small multiplicative noise. We adopt the variational framework and the modified weak convergence criteria to prove the Laplace principle for McKean-Vlasov type SPDEs, which is equivalent to the large deviation principle. Moreover, we do not assume any compactness condition of embedding in the Gelfand triple to handle both the cases of bounded and unbounded domains in applications. The main results can be applied to various McKean-Vlasov type SPDEs…
In this paper, we develop a new method to obtain the accessibility of stochastic partial differential equations driven by additive pure jump noise. An important novelty of this paper is to allow the driving noises to be degenerate. As an application, for the first time, we obtain the accessibility of a class of stochastic equations driven by pure jump degenerate noise, which cover 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equations, stochastic Burgers type equations, singular stochastic p-Laplace equations, stochastic fast diffusion equations, etc. As a further application, we establish the ergodicity of si…
This work is concerned with Freidlin-Wentzell type large deviation principle for a family of multi-scale quasilinear and semilinear stochastic partial differential equations. Employing the weak convergence method and Khasminskii's time discretization approach, the Laplace principle (equivalently, large deviation principle) for a general class of multi-scale SPDEs is derived. In particular, we succeed in dropping the compactness assumption of embedding in the Gelfand triple in order to deal with the case of bounded and unbounded domains in applications. Our main results are applicable to variou…
This article provides the domain of existence $Ω$ of the Laplace transform of infinitely divisible negative multinomial distributions. We define a negative multinomial distribution on $\mathbb{N}^{n},$ where $\mathbb{N}$ is the set of nonnegative integers, by its probability generating function which will be of the form $\left( A\left( a_{1}z_{1} ,\ldots,a_{n}z_{n}\right) /A\left( a_{1},\ldots,a_{n}\right) \right) ^{-λ}$ where $A\left( \mathbf{z}\right) = {\displaystyle\sum\limits_{T\subset\left\{ 1,2,\ldots,n\right\} }} a_{T}\prod\limits_{i\in T}z_{i},$ where $a_{\emptyset}\neq0,$ and where $…
This paper derives the non-analytic solution to the Fokker-Planck equation of fractional Brownian motion using the method of Laplace transform. Sequentially, by considering the fundamental solution of the non-analytic solution, this paper obtains the transition probability density function of the random variable that is described by the Itô's stochastic ordinary differential equation of fractional Brownian motion. Furthermore, this paper applies the derived transition probability density function to the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross model governed by the fractional Brownian motion instead of the usual Br…
The majority of current phylogenetic comparative methods assume that the stochastic evolutionary process is homogeneous over the phylogeny or offer relaxations of this in rather limited and usually parameter expensive ways. Here we make a preliminary investigation, by means of a numerical experiment, whether the Laplace motion process can offer an alternative approach.
