A Banach algebra $A$ is said to be a zero Jordan product determined Banach algebra if every continuous bilinear map $φ\colon A\times A\to X$, where $X$ is an arbitrary Banach space, which satisfies $φ(a,b)=0$ whenever $a$, $b\in A$ are such that $ab+ba=0$, is of the form $φ(a,b)=σ(ab+ba)$ for some continuous linear map $σ$. We show that all $C^*$-algebras and all group algebras $L^1(G)$ of amenable locally compact groups have this property, and also discuss some applications.
In this paper, we study Jordan derivation-like maps on the $θ-$Lau products of algebras. We characterize them and prove that under certain condition any Jordan derivation-like maps on the $θ-$Lau products is a derivation-like map. Moreover, we investigate the concept of centralizing for Jordan derivation-like maps on the $θ-$Lau products of algebras.
There are discussed some modifications of n-th von Neumann-Jordan constant considered by M. Kato, Y. Takahashi and K. Hashimoto. We study, among others, upper, lower, upper modified and lower modified n-th von Neumann-Jordan constant and relationships between them. There are characterized uniformly non-l_{n}^{1} Banach spaces in terms of the upper modified n-th von Neumann-Jordan constant. Moreover, this constant is calculated explicitly for Lebesgue spaces L^{p} and l^{p} (1\leq p\leq oo).
By extending the notion of Arens regularity of bilinear mappings, we say that a bounded trilinear map on Banach spaces id Aron--Berner regular when all its six Aron-Berner extensions to the bidual spaces coincide. We give some results on the Aron-Berner regularity of certain trilinear maps. We then focus on the bidual, $E^{**},$ of a Jordan banach triple system $(E,π)$, and investigate those conditions under which $E^{**}$ is itself a Jordan Banach triple system under each of the Aron-Berner extensions of the triple product $π.$ We also compare these six triple products with those arising from…
In this article, a new notion of $n$-Jordan homomorphism namely the mixed $n$-Jordan homomorphism is introduced. It is proved that how a mixed $(n+1)$-Jordan homomorphism can be a mixed $n$-Jordan homomorphism and vice versa. By means of some examples, it is shown that the mixed $n$-Jordan homomorphisma are different from the $n$-Jordan homomorphisms and the pseudo $n$-Jordan homomorphisms. As a consequence, it shown that every mixed Jordan homomorphism from Banach algebra $\mathcal{A}$ into commutative semisimple Banach algebra $\mathcal{B}$ is automatically continuous. Under some mild condit…
Let $A$ and $B$ be Banach algebras with bounded approximate identities and let $Φ:A\to B$ be a surjective continuous linear map which preserves two-sided zero products (i.e., $Φ(a)Φ(b)=Φ(b)Φ(a)=0$ whenever $ab=ba=0$). We show that $Φ$ is a weighted Jordan homomorphism provided that $A$ is zero product determined and weakly amenable. These conditions are in particular fulfilled when $A$ is the group algebra $L^1(G)$ with $G$ any locally compact group. We also study a more general type of continuous linear maps $Φ:A\to B$ that satisfy $Φ(a)Φ(b)+Φ(b)Φ(a)=0$ whenever $ab=ba=0$. We show in particul…
Let $M$ and $N$ be unital Jordan-Banach algebras, and let $M^{-1}$ and $N^{-1}$ denote the sets of invertible elements in $M$ and $N$, respectively. Suppose that $\mathfrak{M}\subseteq M^{-1}$ and $\mathfrak{N}\subseteq N^{-1}$ are clopen subsets of $M^{-1}$ and $N^{-1}$, respectively, which are closed for powers, inverses and products of the form $U_{a} (b)$. In this paper we prove that for each surjective isometry $Δ: \mathfrak{M}\to \mathfrak{N}$ there exists a surjective real-linear isometry $T_0: M\to N$ and an element $u_0$ in the McCrimmon radical of $N$ such that $Δ(a) = T_0(a) +u_0$ f…
We assume that the generalized resolvent for a bounded linear operator pencil mapping one Banach space onto another has an isolated essential singularity at the origin and is analytic on some annular region of the complex plane centred at the origin. In such cases the resolvent operator can be represented on the annulus by a convergent Laurent series and the spectral set has two components---a bounded component inside the inner boundary of the annulus and an unbounded component outside the outer boundary. In this paper we prove that the complementary spectral separation projections on the doma…
A Banach algebra $A$ is said to be zero Lie product determined if every continuous bilinear functional $φ\colon A\times A\to \mathbb{C}$ satisfying $φ(a,b)=0$ whenever $ab=ba$ is of the form $φ(a,b)=ω(ab-ba)$ for some $ω\in A^*$. We prove that $A$ has this property provided that any of the following three conditions holds: (i) $A$ is a weakly amenable Banach algebra with property $\mathbb{B}$ and having a bounded approximate identity, (ii) every continuous cyclic Jordan derivation from $A$ into $A^*$ is an inner derivation, (iii) $A$ is the algebra of all $n\times n$ matrices, where $n\ge 2$, …
A Banach algebra $A$ is said to be zero Lie product determined if every continuous bilinear functional $φ\colon A\times A\to \mathbb{C}$ with the property that $φ(a,b)=0$ whenever $a$ and $b$ commute is of the form $φ(a,b)=τ(ab-ba)$ for some $τ\in A^*$. In the first part of the paper we give some general remarks on this class of algebras. In the second part we consider amenable Banach algebras and show that all group algebras $L^1(G)$ with $G$ an amenable locally compact group are zero Lie product determined.
$C^*$-algebras, group algebras, and the algebra $\mathcal{A}(X)$ of approximable operators on a Banach space $X$ having the bounded approximation property are known to be zero product determined. We are interested in giving a quantitative estimate of this property by finding, for each Banach algebra $A$ of the above classes, a constant $α$ with the property that for every continuous bilinear functional $φ\colon A \times A\to\mathbb{C}$ there exists a continuous linear functional $ξ$ on $A$ such that \[ \sup_{\Vert a\Vert=\Vert b\Vert=1}\vertφ(a,b)-ξ(ab)\vert\le α\sup_{\mathclap{\substack{\Vert…
Let $\mathcal{B} (X)$ be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space $X$. For an operator $ T \in \mathcal{B} (X)$, $K(T)$ denotes as usual the analytic core of $T$. We determine the form of surjective maps $ ϕ$ on $ \mathcal{B} (X)$ satisfying $$ K(ϕ(T) ϕ(S) + ϕ(S) ϕ(T)) = K(TS + ST) $$ for all $T, S \in \mathcal{B} (X)$.
Three problems connecting functional identities to the recently introduced notion of a zero Lie product determined Banach algebra are discussed. The first one concerns commuting linear maps, the second one concerns derivations that preserve commutativity, and the third one concerns bijective commutativity preserving linear maps.
We prove a formula for the Szlenk power type of the injective tensor product of Banach spaces with Szlenk index at most $ω$. We also show that the Szlenk power type as well as summability of the Szlenk index are separably determined, and we extend some of our recent results concerning direct sums.
A separable Banach space $X$ is said to be finitely determined if for each separable space $Y$ such that $X$ is finitely representable (f.r.) in $Y$ and $Y$ is f.r. in $X$ then $Y$ is isometric to $X$. We provide a direct proof (without model theory) of the fact that every finitely determined space $X$ (isometrically) contains every (separable) space $Y$ which is finitely representable in $X$. We also point out how a similar argument proves the Krivine-Maurey theorem on stable Banach spaces, and give the model theoretic interpretations of some results.
Let $\mathcal{L}$ be a completely distributive commutative subspace lattice or a subspace lattice with two atoms, we use a unified approach to study the derivations, homomorphisms on $\mathrm{Alg} \mathcal{L}$. We verify that the multiplier algebra of $\mathrm{Alg} \mathcal{L}\cap \mathcal{K}(\mathcal{H})$ is isomorphic to $\mathrm{Alg} \mathcal{L}$ and $\mathrm{Alg} \mathcal{L}$ is zero product determined. For $T$ in $M_{n}(\mathbb{C})$, $n\geq 2$, we show that $\mathcal{A}_{T}$ is zero product determined if and only if every local derivation from $\mathcal{A}_{T}$ into any Banach $\mathcal{A…
We prove that if $\mathcal{A}$ is a complex, unital semisimple Banach algebra and $\mathcal{B}$ is a complex, unital Banach algebra having a separating family of finite-dimensional irreducible representations, then any unital linear operator from $\mathcal{A}$ onto $\mathcal{B}$ which preserves the spectral radius is a Jordan morphism.
