We investigate properties of order continuous operators on pre-Riesz spaces with respect to the embedding of the range space into a vector lattice cover or, in particular, into its Dedekind completion. We show that order continuity is preserved under this embedding for positive operators, but not in general.
For the vector lattice $\ell_0^\infty$ of eventually constant sequences, we consider the pre-Riesz space of regular operators on $\ell_0^\infty$ and show that making the range space Dedekind complete does not provide a vector lattice cover of the pre-Riesz space. A similar counterexample is obtained for the directed part of the space of order continuous operators on $\ell_0^\infty$.
This paper concerns positive domination property of compact operators on pre-Riesz spaces. The method is embedding the pre-Riesz space to the Riesz completion. It extends the order continuous norms in pre-Riesz spaces to Riesz completions. The compactness of third power of a positive operator is obtained in a pre-Riesz space which has an order unit.
An explicit Bellman function is used to prove a bilinear embedding theorem for operators associated with general multi-dimensional orthogonal expansions on product spaces. This is then applied to obtain $L^p,$ $1<p<\infty,$ boundedness of appropriate vectorial Riesz transforms, in particular in the case of Jacobi polynomials. Our estimates for the $L^p$ norms of these Riesz transforms are both dimension-free and linear in $\max(p,p/(p-1)).$ The approach we present allows us to avoid the use of both differential forms and general spectral multipliers.
Let $n_j$ be a lacunary sequence of integers, such that $n_{j+1}/n_j\geq r$. We are interested in linear combinations of the sequence of finite Riesz products $\prod_{j=1}^N(1+\cos(n_j t))$. We prove that, whenever the Riesz products are normalized in $L^p$ norm ($p\geq 1$) and when $r$ is large enough, the $L^p$ norm of such a linear combination is equivalent to the $\ell^p$ norm of the sequence of coefficients. In other words, one can describe many ways of embedding $\ell^p$ into $L^p$ based on Fourier coefficients. This generalizes to vector valued $L^p$ spaces.
$ \renewcommand{\subset}{\subseteq} \newcommand{\N}{\mathbb N} $For $p\in [2,\infty)$ the metric $X_p$ inequality with sharp scaling parameter is proven here to hold true in $L_p$. The geometric consequences of this result include the following sharp statements about embeddings of $L_q$ into $L_p$ when $2< q<p<\infty$: the maximal $θ\in (0,1]$ for which $L_q$ admits a bi-$θ$-Hölder embedding into $L_p$ equals $q/p$, and for $m,n\in \N$ the smallest possible bi-Lipschitz distortion of any embedding into $L_p$ of the grid $\{1,\ldots,m\}^n\subset \ell_q^n$ is bounded above and below by constant …
We prove compactness of the embeddings in Sobolev spaces for fractional super and sub harmonic functions with radial symmetry. The main tool is a pointwise decay for radially symmetric functions belonging to a function space defined by finite homogeneous Sobolev norm together with finite $L^2$ norm of the Riesz potentials. As a byproduct we prove also existence of maximizers for the interpolation inequalities in Sobolev spaces for radially symmetric fractional super and sub harmonic functions.
James Tree Space ($\mathcal{JT}$), introduced by R. James, is the first Banach space constructed having non-separable conjugate and not containing $\ell^1$. James actually proved that every infinite dimensional subspace of $\mathcal{JT}$ contains a Hilbert space, which implies the $\ell^1$ non-embedding. In this expository article, we present a direct proof of the $\ell^1$ non-embedding, using Rosenthal's $\ell^1$- Theorem and some measure theoretic arguments, namely Riesz's Representation Theorem.
In this paper we establish an optimal Lorentz estimate for the Riesz potential in the $L^1$ regime in the setting of a stratified group $G$: Let $Q\geq 2$ be the homogeneous dimension of $G$ and $\mathcal{I}_α$ denote the Riesz potential of order $α$ on $G$. Then, for every $α\in (0,Q)$, there exists a constant $C=C(α,Q)>0$ such that \begin{align} \| \mathcal{I}_αf \|_{L^{Q/(Q-α),1}(G)} \leq C\| X \mathcal{I}_1 f \|_{L^1(G)} \end{align} for distributions $f$ such that $X \mathcal{I}_1 f \in L^1(G)$, where $X$ denotes the horizontal gradient.
In this article, the authors completely answer an open question, presented in [Banach J. Math. Anal. 15 (2021), no. 1, 20], via showing that the Riesz--Morrey space is truly a new space larger than a particular Lebesgue space with critical index. Indeed, this Lebesgue space is just the real interpolation space of the Riesz--Morrey space for suitable indices. Moreover, the authors further show the aforementioned inclusion is also proper, namely, this embedding is sharp in some sense, via constructing two nontrivial spare functions, respectively, on $\mathbb{R}^n$ and any given cube $Q_0$ of $\m…
In this paper we present a comprehensive treatment of function spaces with logarithmic smoothness (Besov, Sobolev, Triebel-Lizorkin). We establish the following results: Sharp embeddings between the Besov spaces defined by differences and by Fourier-analytical decompositions as well as between Besov and Sobolev/Triebel-Lizorkin spaces; Various new characterizations for Besov norms in terms of different K-functionals. For instance, we derive characterizations via ball averages, approximation methods, heat kernels, and Bianchini-type norms; Sharp estimates for Besov norms of derivatives and pote…
In this paper we develop a new set of results based on a nonlocal gradient jointly inspired by the Riesz s-fractional gradient and Peridynamics, in the sense that its integration domain depends on a ball of radius delta > 0 (horizon of interaction among particles, in the terminology of Peridynamics), while keeping at the same time the singularity of the Riesz potential in its integration kernel. Accordingly, we define a functional space suitable for nonlocal models in Calculus of Variations and partial differential equations. Our motivation is to develop the proper functional analysis framewor…
Pervasive pre-Riesz spaces are defined by means of vector lattice covers. To avoid the computation of a vector lattice cover, we give two distinct intrinsic characterizations of pervasive pre-Riesz spaces. We introduce weakly pervasive pre-Riesz spaces and observe that this property can be easily checked in examples. We relate weakly pervasive pre-Riesz spaces to pre-Riesz spaces with the Riesz decomposition property.
In this paper we establish an optimal Lorentz space estimate for the Riesz potential acting on curl-free vectors: There is a constant $C=C(α,d)>0$ such that \[ \|I_αF \|_{L^{d/(d-α),1}(\mathbb{R}^d;\mathbb{R}^d)} \leq C \|F\|_{L^1(\mathbb{R}^d;\mathbb{R}^d)} \] for all fields $F \in L^1(\mathbb{R}^d;\mathbb{R}^d)$ such that $\operatorname*{curl} F=0$ in the sense of distributions. This is the best possible estimate on this scale of spaces and completes the picture in the regime $p=1$ of the well-established results for $p>1$.
Let $Γ$ be a doubling graph satisfying some pointwise subgaussian estimates of the Markov kernel. We introduce a space $H^1(Γ)$ of functions and a space $H^1(T_Γ)$ of 1-forms and give various characterizations of them. We prove the $H^1$-boundedness of the Riesz transform, from which we deduce the $L^p$ boundedness of the Riesz transform for any $p\in (1,2)$. In a previous work, we showed a $H^1_w$-boundedness of the Riesz transform under weaker assumptions, but the $L^p$ boundedness was not established.
We improve our results on boundedness of the Riesz potential in the central Morrey-Orlicz spaces and the corresponding weak-type version. We also present two new properties of the central Morrey-Orlicz spaces: nontriviality and inclusion property.
Let $L$ be a Riesz space with a strong unit $e>0$.$\mathfrak{\ }$We show that a unital linear functional $H:L\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ satisfies $% H\left( u\right) \neq 0$ for any strong unit $u\in L$ if and only if $H$ acts like a Riesz homomorphism on every $e$-clean vector subspace of $L.$ We deduce that $L$ is $e$-clean if and only if any unital linear functional $% H:L\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ such that $H\left( u\right) \neq 0$ for any strong unit $u\in L$ is a Riesz homomorphism.
In Archimedean vector lattices bands can be introduced via three different coinciding notions. First, they are order closed ideals. Second, they are precisely those ideals which equal their double disjoint complements. The third concept is that of an ideal which contains the supremum of any of its bounded subsets, provided the supremum exists in the vector lattice. We investigate these three notions and their relationships in the more general setting of Archimedean pre-Riesz spaces. We introduce the notion of a supremum closed ideal, which is related to the third aforementioned notion in vecto…
We consider a Riesz $ϕ$-variation for functions $f$ defined on the real line when $φ:Ω\times[0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)$ is a generalized $Φ$-function. We show that it generates a quasi-Banach space and derive an explicit formula for the modular when the function $f$ has bounded variation. The resulting $BV$-type energy has previously appeared in image restoration models. We generalize and improve previous results in the variable exponent and Orlicz cases and answer a question regarding the Riesz--Medvedev variation by Appell, Banaś and Merentes [\emph{Bounded Variation and Around}, Studies in Non…
Given an orthonormal basis $ {\mathcal V}= \{v_j\} _{j\in N}$ in a separable Hilbert space $H$ and a set of unit vectors $ {\mathcal B}=\{w_j\}_{j\in N}$, we consider the sets $ {\mathcal B}_N$ obtained by replacing the vectors $v_1, ...,\, v_N$ with vectors $w_1,\, ...,\, w_N$. We show necessary and sufficient conditions that ensure that the sets $ {\mathcal B}_N$ are Riesz bases of $H$ and we estimate the frame constants of the $ {\mathcal B}_N$. Then, we prove conditions that ensure that $ {\mathcal B}$ is a Riesz basis. Applications to the construction of exponential bases on domains of $ …
Pre-Riesz spaces are ordered vector spaces which can be order densely embedded into vector lattices, their so-called vector lattice covers. Given a vector lattice cover $Y$ for a pre-Riesz space $X$, we address the question how to find vector lattice covers for subspaces of $X$, such as ideals and bands. We provide conditions such that for a directed ideal $I$ in $X$ its smallest extension ideal in $Y$ is a vector lattice cover. We show a criterion for bands in $X$ and their extension bands in $Y$ as well. Moreover, we state properties of ideals and bands in $X$ which are generated by sets, an…
Truncated Riesz spaces was first introduced by Fremlin in the context of real-valued functions. An appropriate axiomatization of the concept was given by Ball. Keeping only the first Ball's Axiom (among three) as a definition of truncated Riesz spaces, the first named author and El Adeb proved that if $E$ is truncated Riesz space then $E\oplus\mathbb{R}$ can be equipped with a non-standard structure of Riesz space such that $E$ becomes a Riesz subspace of $E\oplus\mathbb{R}$ and the truncation of $E$ is provided by meet with $1$. In the present paper, we assume that the truncated Riesz space $…
We study orthogonally additive operators between Riesz spaces without the Dedekind completeness assumption on the range space. Our first result gives necessary and sufficient conditions on a pair of Riesz spaces $(E,F)$ for which every orthogonally additive operator from $E$ to $F$ is laterally-to-order bounded. Second result provides sufficient conditions on a pair of orthogonally additive operators $S$ and $T$ to have $S \vee T$, as well as to have $S \wedge T$, and consequently, for an orthogonally additive operator $T$ to have $T^+$, $T^-$ or $|T|$ without any assumption on the domain and …
We generalize results concerning $\mathrm{C}_0$-semigroups on Banach lattices to a setting of ordered Banach spaces. We prove that the generator of a disjointness preserving $\mathrm{C}_0$-semigroup is local. Some basic properties of local operators are also given. We investigate cases where local operators generate local $\mathrm{C}_0$-semigroups, by using Taylor series or Yosida approximations. As norms we consider regular norms and show that bands are closed with respect to such norms. Our proofs rely on the theory of embedding pre-Riesz spaces in vector lattices and on corresponding extens…
Inspired by the work of Hedenmalm, Lindqvist and Seip, we consider different properties of dilations systems of a fixed function $φ\in L^2(0,1)$. More precisely, we study when the system $\{φ(nx)\}_n$ is a Bessel sequence, a Riesz sequence, or it satisfies the lower frame bound. We are able to characterize these properties in terms of multipliers of the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}^2$ of Dirichtet series and, also, in terms of Hardy spaces on the infinite polytorus. We also address the multivariate case.
We introduce Riesz space-valued states, called $(R,1_R)$-states, on a pseudo MV-algebra, where $R$ is a Riesz space with a fixed strong unit $1_R$. Pseudo MV-algebras are a non-commutative generalization of MV-algebras. Such a Riesz space-valued state is a generalization of usual states on MV-algebras. Any $(R,1_R)$-state is an additive mapping preserving a partial addition in pseudo MV-algebras. Besides we introduce $(R,1_R)$-state-morphisms and extremal $(R,1_R)$-states, and we study relations between them. We study metrical completion of unital $\ell$-groups with respect to an $(R,1_R)$-sta…
The abstraction of the study of stochastic processes to Banach lattices and vector lattices has received much attention by Grobler, Kuo, Labuschagne, Stoica, Troitsky and Watson over the past fifteen years. By contrast mixing processes have received very little attention. In particular mixingales were generalized to the Riesz space setting in {\sc W.-C. Kuo, J.J. Vardy, B.A. Watson,} Mixingales on Riesz spaces, {\em J. Math. Anal. Appl.}, \textbf{402} (2013), 731-738. The concepts of strong and uniform mixing as well as related mixing inequalities were extended to this setting in {\sc W.-C. Ku…
This work explores several aspects of interpolating sequences for $\ell^p_A$, the space of analytic functions on the unit disk with $p$-summable Maclaurin coefficients. Much of this work is communicated through a Carlesonian lens. We investigate various analogues of Gramian matrices, for which we show boundedness conditions are necessary and sufficient for interpolation, including a characterization of universal interpolating sequences in terms of Riesz systems. We also discuss weak separation, giving a characterization of such sequences using a generalization of the pseudohyperbolic metric. L…
The ergodic theorems of Hopf, Wiener and Birkhoff were extended to the context of Riesz spaces with a weak order unit and conditional expectation operator by Kuo, Labuschagne and Watson in [Ergodic Theory and the Strong Law of Large Numbers on Riesz Spaces. Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 325,(2007), 422-437.]. However, the precise concept of what constitutes ergodicity in Riesz spaces was not considered. In this short paper we fill in this omission and give some explanations of the choices made. In addition, we consider the interplay between mixing and ergodicity in the Rie…
We link conditional weak mixing and ergodicity of the tensor product in Riesz spaces. In particular, we characterise conditional weak mixing of a conditional expectation preserving system by the ergodicity of its tensor product with itself or other ergodic systems. In order to achieve this we characterise the components of the weak order units in the tensor product of two Dedekind complete Riesz spaces with weak order units.
In this paper, we will give some results on the support of Dunkl translations on compactly supported functions. Then we will define Dunkl-type $BMO$ space and Riesz transforms for Dunkl transform on $L^\infty$, and prove the boundedness of Riesz transforms from $L^\infty$ to Dunkl-type $BMO$ space under the uniform boundedness assumption of Dunkl translations. The proof and the definition in Dunkl setting will be harder than in the classical case for the lack of some similar properties of Dunkl translations to that of classical translations. We will also extend the preciseness of the descripti…
Riesz space (non-pointwise) generalizations for iterative processes are given for the concepts of recurrence, first recurrence and conditional ergodicity. Riesz space conditional versions of the Poincaré Recurrence Theorem and the Kac formula are developed. Under mild assumptions, it is shown that every conditional expectation preserving process is conditionally ergodic with respect to the conditional expectation generated by the Cesàro mean associated with the iterates of the process. Applied to processes in $L^1(Ω,{\mathcal A},μ)$, where $μ$ is a probability measure, new conditional versions…
