In this paper, we study the complete bounded $λ$-hypersurfaces in weighted volume-preserving mean curvature flow. Firstly, we investigate the volume comparison theorem of complete bounded $λ$-hypersurfaces with $|A|\leqα$ and get some applications of the volume comparison theorem. Secondly, we consider the relation among $λ$, extrinsic radius $k$, intrinsic diameter $d$, and dimension $n$ of the complete $λ$-hypersurface, and we obtain some estimates for the intrinsic diameter and the extrinsic radius. At last, we get some topological properties of the bounded $λ$-hypersurface with some natural and general restrictions.
In this paper, we prove that a noncompact complete hypersurface with finite weighted volume, weighted mean curvature vector bounded in norm, and isometrically immersed in a complete weighted manifold is proper. In addition, we obtain an estimate for $f$-stability index of a constant weighted mean curvature hypersurface with finite weighted volume and isometrically immersed in a shrinking gradient Ricci soliton that admits at least one parallel field globally defined. For such hypersurface, we still give a necessary condition for equality to be achieved in the estimate obtained.
In this paper, we introduce a definition of $λ$-hypersurfaces of weighted volume-preserving mean curvature flow in Euclidean space. We prove that $λ$-hypersurfaces are critical points of the weighted area functional for the weighted volume-preserving variations. Furthermore, we classify complete $λ$-hypersurfaces with polynomial area growth and $H-λ\geq 0$, which are generalizations of the results due to Huisken, Colding-Minicozzi. We also define a $\mathcal{F}$-functional and study $\mathcal{F}$-stability of $λ$-hypersurfaces, which extend a result of Colding-Minicozzi. Lower bound growth and…
We prove two weighted geometric inequalities that hold for strictly mean convex and star-shaped hypersurfaces in Euclidean space. The first one involves the weighted area and the area of the hypersurface and also the volume of the region enclosed by the hypersurface. The second one involves the total weighted mean curvature and the area of the hypersurface. Versions of the first inequality for the sphere and for the adS-Reissner-Nordström manifold are proven. We end with an example of a convex surface for which the ratio between the polar moment of inertia and the square of the area is less th…
In this paper, we study constant weighted mean curvature hypersurfaces in shrinking Ricci solitons. First, we show that a constant weighted mean curvature hypersurface with finite weighted volume cannot lie in a region determined by a special level set of the potential function, unless it is the level set. Next, we show that a compact constant weighted mean curvature hypersurface with a certain upper bound or lower bound on the mean curvature is a level set of the potential function. We can apply both results to the cylinder shrinking Ricci soliton ambient space. Finally, we show that a consta…
In this paper, we prove a classification for complete embedded constant weighted mean curvature hypersurfaces $Σ\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$. We characterize the hyperplanes and generalized round cylinders by using an intrinsic property on the norm of the second fundamental form. Furthermore, we prove an equivalence of properness, finite weighted volume and exponential volume growth for submanifolds with weighted mean curvature of at most linear growth.
The problem of determining the {\it Bonnet hypersurfaces in} $R^{n+1}$, for $n>1$, is studied here. These hypersurfaces are by definition those that can be isometrically mapped to another hypersurface or to itself (as locus) by at least one nontrivial isometry preserving the mean curvature. The other hypersurface and/or (the locus of) itself is called {\it Bonnet associate} of the initial hypersurface. The orthogonal net which is called \hbox{\it $A$-net} is special and very important for our study and it is described on a hypersurface. It is proved that, non-minimal hypersurface in $R^{n+1}$ …
We consider a convex Euclidean hypersurface that evolves by a volume or area preserving flow with speed given by a general nonhomogeneous function of the mean curvature. For a broad class of possible speed functions, we show that any closed convex hypersurface converges to a round sphere. The proof is based on the monotonicity of the isoperimetric ratio, which allows to control the inner and outer radius of the hypersurface and to deduce uniform bounds on the curvature by maximum principle arguments.
We study stability properties of $f$-minimal hypersurfaces isometrically immersed in weighted manifolds with non-negative Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature under volume growth conditions. Moreover, exploiting a weighted version of a finiteness result and the adaptation to this setting of Li-Tam theory, we investigate the topology at infinity of $f$-minimal hypersurfaces. On the way, we prove a new comparison result in weighted geometry and we provide a general weighted $L^1$-Sobolev inequality for hypersurfaces in Cartan-Hadamard weighted manifolds, satisfying suitable restrictions on the weight fun…
Our purpose in this paper is to apply some maximum principles in order to study the rigidity of complete spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in a spatially weighted generalized Robertson-Walker (GRW) spacetime, which is supposed to obey the so called strong null convergence condition. Under natural constraints on the weight function and on the f-mean curvature, we establish sufficient conditions to guarantee that such a hypersurface must be a slice of the ambient space. In this setting, we also obtain new Calabi-Bernstein type results concerning entire graphs in a spatially weighted GRW spacetime…
We use the weighted Hsiung-Minkowski integral formulas and Brendle's inequality to show new rigidity results. First, we prove Alexandrov type results for closed embedded hypersurfaces with radially symmetric higher order mean curvature in a large class of Riemannian warped product manifolds, including the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström spaces, where the Alexandrov reflection principle is not available. Second, we prove that, in Euclidean space, the only closed immersed self-expanding solitons to the weighted generalized inverse curvature flow of codimension one are round hyperspheres.
In this paper, we consider the area-preserving mean curvature flow with free Neumann boundaries. We show that for a rotationally symmetric $n$-dimensional hypersurface in $\R^{n+1}$ between two parallel hyperplanes will converge to a cylinder with the same area under this flow. We use the geometric properties and the maximal principle to obtain gradient and curvature estimates, leading to long-time existence of the flow and convergence to a constant mean curvature surface.
A hypersurface without umbilics in the n+1 dimensional Euclidean space is known to be determined by the Moebius metric and the Moebius second fundamental form up to a Moebius transformation when n>2. In this paper we consider Moebius rigidity for hypersurfaces and deformations of a hypersurface preserving the Moebius metric in the high dimensional case n>3. When the highest multiplicity of principal curvatures is less than n-2, the hypersurface is Moebius rigid. Deformable hypersurfaces and the possible deformations are also classified completely. In addition, we establish a Reduction Theorem …
In this article, we study hypersurfaces $Σ\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with constant weighted mean curvature. Recently, Wei-Peng proved a rigidity theorem for CWMC hypersurfaces that generalizes Le-Sesum classification theorem for self-shrinker. More specifically, they showed that a complete CWMC hypersurface with polynomial volume growth, bounded norm of the second fundamental form and that satisfies $|A|^2H(H-λ)\leq H^2/2$ must either be a hyperplane or a generalized cylinder. We generalize this result by removing the bound condition on the norm of the second fundamental form. Moreover, we prov…
For a Riemannian manifold $M$, possibly with boundary, we consider the Riemannian product $M\times\mathbb{R}^k$ with a smooth positive function that weights the Riemannian measures. In this work we characterize parabolic hypersurfaces with non-empty boundary and contained within certain regions of $M\times\mathbb{R}^k$ with suitable weights. Our results include half-space and Bernstein-type theorems in weighted cylinders. We also generalize to this setting some classical properties about the confinement of a compact minimal hypersurface to certain regions of Euclidean space according to the po…
Let $M$ be a weighted manifold with boundary $\partial M$, i.e., a Riemannian manifold where a density function is used to weight the Riemannian Hausdorff measures. In this paper we compute the first and the second variational formulas of the interior weighted area for deformations by hypersurfaces with boundary in $\partial M$. As a consequence, we obtain variational characterizations of critical points and second order minima of the weighted area with or without a volume constraint. Moreover, in the compact case, we obtain topological estimates and rigidity properties for free boundary stabl…
Since $n$-dimensional $λ$-hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space $\mathbb {R}^{n+1}$ are critical points of the weighted area functional for the weighted volume-preserving variations, in this paper, we study the rigidity properties of complete $λ$-hypersurfaces. We give a gap theorem of complete $λ$-hypersurfaces with polynomial area growth. By making use of the generalized maximum principle for $\mathcal L$ of $λ$-hypersurfaces, we prove a rigidity theorem of complete $λ$-hypersurfaces.
This paper concerns the evolution of a closed hypersurface of dimension $n(\geq 2)$ in the Euclidean space ${\mathbb{R}}^{n+1}$ under a mixed volume preserving flow. The speed equals a power $β(\geq 1)$ of homogeneous, either convex or concave, curvature functions of degree one plus a mixed volume preserving term, including the case of powers of the mean curvature and of the Gauss curvature. The main result is that if the initial hypersurface satisfies a suitable pinching condition, there exists a unique, smooth solution of the flow for all times, and the evolving hypersurfaces converge expone…
In a rotationally symmetric space $\oM$ around an axis A (whose precise definition includes all real space forms), we consider a domain $G$ limited by two equidistant hypersurfaces orthogonal to A. Let $M \subset \oM$ be a revolution hypersurface generated by a graph over A, with boundary in $\partial G$ and orthogonal to it. We study the evolution $M_t$ of $M$ under the volume-preserving mean curvature flow requiring that the boundary of $M_t$ rests on $\partial G$ and keeps orthogonal to it. We prove that: a) the generating curve of $M_t$ remains a graph; b) the flow exists while $M_t$ does …
The objet of this paper is the study of the variations of a functional whose integrant is the r-th weighted curvature on the hypersurface of a closed Riemannian manifold. Some applications to hypersurfaces of the Euclidean space and the unit round sphère are given.
In this paper, we obtain results on rigidity of complete Riemannian manifolds with weighted Poincaré inequality. As an application, we prove that if $M$ is a complete $\frac{n-2}{n}$-stable minimal hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with $n\geq 3$ and has bounded norm of the second fundamental form, then $M$ must either have only one end or be a catenoid.
Let N be a (n+1)-dimensional globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifold with a compact Cauchy hypersurface. We consider curvature flows in N with different curvature functions F (including the mean curvature, the gauss curvature and the second elementary symmetric polynomial) and a volume preserving term. Under suitable assumptions we prove the long time existence of the flow and the exponential convergence of the corresponding graphs in the $C^\infty$-topology to a hypersurface of constant F-curvature. Furthermore we examine stability properties and foliations of constant F-curvature hypersurfac…
In an ambient space with rotational symmetry around an axis (which include the Hyperbolic and Euclidean spaces), we study the evolution under the volume-preserving mean curvature flow of a revolution hypersurface M generated by a graph over the axis of revolution and with boundary in two totally geodesic hypersurfaces (tgh for short). Requiring that, for each time t, the evolving hypersurface M_t meets such tgh ortogonally, we prove that: a) the flow exists while M_t does not touch the axis of rotation; b) throughout the time interval of existence, b1) the generating curve of M_t remains a gra…
We study $λ$-hypersurfaces that are critical points of a Gaussian weighted area functional $\int_Σ e^{-\frac{|x|^2}{4}}dA$ for compact variations that preserve weighted volume. First, we prove various gap and rigidity theorems for complete $λ$-hypersurfaces in terms of the norm of the second fundamental form $|A|$. Second, we show that in one dimension, the only smooth complete and embedded $λ$-hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{R}^2$ with $λ\geq 0$ are lines and round circles. Moreover, we establish a Bernstein type theorem for $λ$-hypersurfaces which states that smooth $λ$-hypersurfaces that are enti…
We consider a smooth Euclidean solid cone endowed with a smooth homogeneous density function used to weight Euclidean volume and hypersurface area. By assuming convexity of the cone and a curvature-dimension condition we prove that the unique compact, orientable, second order minima of the weighted area under variations preserving the weighted volume and with free boundary in the boundary of the cone are intersections with the cone of round spheres centered at the vertex.
We prove that the index is bounded from below by a linear function of its first Betti number for any compact free boundary $f$-minimal hypersurface in certain positively curved weighted manifolds.
We prove that square integrable holomorphic functions (with respect to a plurisubharmonic weight) can be extended in a square integrable manner from certain singular hypersurfaces (which include uniformly flat, normal crossing divisors) to entire functions in affine space. This provides evidence for a conjecture regarding the positivity of the curvature of the weight under consideration.
This paper concerns closed hypersurfaces of dimension $n(\geq 2)$ in the hyperbolic space ${\mathbb{H}}_κ^{n+1}$ of constant sectional curvature $κ$ evolving in direction of its normal vector, where the speed is given by a power $β(\geq 1/m)$ of the $m$th mean curvature plus a volume preserving term, including the case of powers of the mean curvature and of the $\mbox{Gauß}$ curvature. The main result is that if the initial hypersurface satisfies that the ratio of the biggest and smallest principal curvature is close enough to 1 everywhere, depending only on $n$, $m$, $β$ and $κ$, then under t…
We study the Morse index of self-shrinkers for the mean curvature flow and, more generally, of $f$-minimal hypersurfaces in a weighted Euclidean space endowed with a convex weight. When the hypersurface is compact, we show that the index is bounded from below by an affine function of its first Betti number. When the first Betti number is large, this improves index estimates known in literature. In the complete non-compact case, the lower bound is in terms of the dimension of the space of weighted square summable $f$-harmonic $1$-forms; in particular, in dimension $2$, the procedure gives an in…
We consider a conjecture made by Ge, Wang and Wu regarding weighted Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for horospherically convex hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space (a bound, for some physically motivated weight function, of the weighted integral of the $k^{\mathrm{th}}$ mean curvature in terms of the area of the hypersurface). We prove an inequality very similar to the conjectured one. Moreover, when $k$ is zero and the ambient space has dimension three, we give a counterexample to the conjectured inequality.
We study the convergence of an axially symmetric hypersurface evolving by volume preserving mean curvature flow. Assuming the surface is not pinching off along the axis at any time during the flow, and without any additional conditions, as for example on the curvature, we prove that it converges to a hemisphere, when the hypersurface has a free boundary and satisfies Neumann boundary data, and to a sphere when it is compact without boundary.
In a round ball $B\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ endowed with an $O(n+1)$-invariant metric we consider a radial function that weights volume and area. We prove that a compact two-sided hypersurface in $B$ which is stable capillary in weighted sense and symmetric about some line containing the center of $B$ is homeomorphic to a closed $n$-dimensional disk. When combined with Hsiang symmetrization and other stability results this allows to deduce that the interior boundary of any isoperimetric region in $B$ for the Gaussian weight is a closed $n$-disk of revolution. For $n=2$ we also show that a compa…
Our aim is to study invariant hypersurfaces immersed in the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, whose mean curvature is given as a linear function in the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^n$ depending on its Gauss map. These hypersurfaces are closely related with the theory of manifolds with density, since their weighted mean curvature in the sense of Gromov is constant. In this paper we obtain explicit parametrizations of constant curvature hypersurfaces, and also give a classification of rotationally invariant hypersurfaces.
We classify the volume preserving stable hypersurfaces in the real projective space $\mathbb{RP}^n$. As a consequence, the solutions of the isoperimetric problem are tubular neighborhoods of projective subspaces $\mathbb{RP}^k\subset \mathbb{RP}^n$ (starting with points). This confirms a conjecture of Burago and Zalgaller from 1988 and extends to higher dimensions previous result of M. Ritoré and A. Ros on $\mathbb{RP}^3$. We also derive an Willmore type inequality for antipodal invariant hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{S}^n$.
We study a volume preserving curvature flow of convex hypersurfaces, driven by a power of the $k$-th elementary symmetric polynomial in the principal curvatures. Unlike most of the previous works on related problems, we do not require assumptions on the curvature pinching of the initial datum. We prove that the solution exists for all times and that the speed remains bounded and converges to a constant in an integral norm. In the case of the volume preserving scalar curvature flow, we can prove that the hypersurfaces converge smoothly and exponentially fast to a round sphere.
We compute global log canonical thresholds of a large class of quasismooth well-formed del Pezzo weighted hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}(a_{1},a_{2},a_{3},a_{4})$. As a corollary we obtain the existence of orbifold Kähler--Einstein metrics on many of them, and classify exceptional and weakly exceptional quasismooth well-formed del Pezzo weighted hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}(a_{1},a_{2},a_{3},a_{4})$.
Let $M$ be a compact connected oriented $n-1$ dimensional manifold without boundary. In this work, shape space is the orbifold of unparametrized immersions from $M$ to $\mathbb R^n$. The results of \cite{Michor118}, where mean curvature weighted metrics were studied, suggest incorporating Gauß curvature weights in the definition of the metric. This leads us to study metrics on shape space that are induced by metrics on the space of immersions of the form $$ G_f(h,k) = \int_{M} Φ. \bar g(h, k) \vol(f^*\bar{g}).$$ Here $f \in \Imm(M,\R^n)$ is an immersion of $M$ into $\R^n$ and $h,k\in C^\infty(…
In this paper we introduce a Guan-Li type volume preserving mean curvature flow for free boundary hypersurfaces in a ball. We give a concept of star-shaped free boundary hypersurfaces in a ball and show that the Guan-Li type mean curvature flow has long time existence and converges to a free boundary spherical cap, provided the initial data is star-shaped.
In this article, we continue the work in \cite{GL} and study a normalized hypersurface flow in the more general ambient setting of warped product spaces. This flow preserves the volume of the bounded domain enclosed by a graphical hypersurface, and monotonically decreases the hypersurface area. As an application, the isoperimetric problem in warped product spaces is solved for such domains.
We study a volume/area preserving curvature flow of hypersurfaces that are convex by horospheres in the hyperbolic space, with velocity given by a generic positive, increasing function of the mean curvature, not necessarly homogeneous. For this class of speeds we prove the exponential convergence to a geodesic sphere. The proof is ispired by [10] and is based on the preserving of the convexity by horospheres that allows to bound the inner and outer radii and to give uniform bounds on the curvature by maximum principle arguments. In order to deduce the exponential trend, we study the behaviour …
We consider the flow of closed convex hypersurfaces in Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with speed given by a power of the $k$-th mean curvature $E_k$ plus a global term chosen to impose a constraint involving the enclosed volume $V_{n+1}$ and the mixed volume $V_{n+1-k}$ of the evolving hypersurface. We prove that if the initial hypersurface is strictly convex, then the solution of the flow exists for all time and converges to a round sphere smoothly. No curvature pinching assumption is required on the initial hypersurface.
We give a family of monotone quantities along smooth solutions to the inverse curvature flows in Euclidean spaces. We also derive a related geometric inequality for closed hypersurfaces with positive k-th mean curvature.
In this paper, we first investigate several rigidity problems for hypersurfaces in the warped product manifolds with constant linear combinations of higher order mean curvatures as well as "weighted'' mean curvatures, which extend the work \cite{Mon, Brendle,BE} considering constant mean curvature functions. Secondly, we obtain the rigidity results for hypersurfaces in the space forms with constant linear combinations of intrinsic Gauss-Bonnet curvatures $L_k$. To achieve this, we develop some new kind of Newton-Maclaurin type inequalities on $L_k$ which may have independent interest.
