Let $k$ be a field and let $H$ denote a pointed Hopf $k$-algebra with antipode $S$. We are interested in determining the order of $S$. Building on the work done by Taft and Wilson $[7]$, we define an invariant for $H$, denoted $m_{H}$, and prove that the value of this invariant is connected to the order of $S$. In the case where $\operatorname{char}k=0$, it is shown that if $S$ has finite order then it is either the identity or has order $2m_{H}$. If in addition $H$ is assumed to be coradically graded, it is shown that the order of $S$ is finite if and only if $m_{H}$ is finite. We also consider the case where $\operatorname{char}k=p>0$, generalising the results of $[7]$ to the infinite-dimensional setting.
Certain sufficient homological and ring-theoretical conditions are given for a Hopf algebra to have bijective antipode with applications to noetherian Hopf algebras regarding their homological behaviors.
In the recent definition of Hom-Hopf algebras the antipode S is the relative Hominverse of the identity map with respect to the convolution product. We observe that some fundamental properties of the antipode of Hopf algebras and Hom-Hopf algebras, with the original definition, do not hold generally in the new setting. We show that the antipode is a relative Hom-anti algebra and a relative anti-coalgebra morphism. It is also relative Hom-unital, and relative Hom-counital. Furthermore if the twisting maps of multiplications and comultiplications are invertible then S is an anti-algebra and an a…
We extend to the co-Frobenius case a result of Drinfeld and Radford related to the fourth power of the antipode of a finite dimensional (co)quasitriangular Hopf algebra.
In this paper, we study the antipode of a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra $H$ with the dual Chevalley property and obtain an annihilation polynomial for its antipode $S$. The annihilation polynomial is determined by the exponent $N$ of the coradical and the Loewy length. In particular, the order of $S^2$ divides $N$ in characteristic $0$. Moreover, we get two characterizations of the quasi-exponent.
We identify a collection of primitive elements generating the Hopf algebra NCSym of symmetric functions in noncommuting variables and give a combinatorial formula for the antipode.
For a matrix coalgebra $C$ over some field, we determine all small subcoalgebras of the free Hopf algebra on $C$, the free Hopf algebra with a bjective antipode on $C$, and the free Hopf algebra with antipode $S$ satisfying $S^{2d}={\rm id}$ on $C$ for some fixed $d$. We use this information to find the endomorphisms of these free Hopf algebras, and to determine the centers of the categories of Hopf algebras, Hopf algebras with bijective antipode, and Hopf algebras with antipode of order dividing 2d.
We study a Hopf algebra $H$, which is finitely generated and projective over a commutative ring $k$, as a $P$-Frobenius algebra. We define modular functions in this setting, and provide a complete proof of Radford's formula for the fourth power of the antipode, using Frobenius algebraic techniques. As further applications, we extend Etingof and Gelaki's result that a separable and coseparable Hopf algebra has antipode of order two, the result of Schneider that Hopf subalgebras are twisted Frobenius extensions, and show that the quantum double is always a Frobenius algebra.
We prove that a quasi-bialgebra admits a preantipode if and only if the associated free quasi-Hopf bimodule functor is Frobenius, if and only if the relative (opmonoidal) monad is a Hopf monad. The same results hold in particular for a bialgebra, tightening the connection between Hopf and Frobenius properties.
In this paper we introduce the notion of factorization in the Hopf quasigroup setting and we prove that, if $A$ and $H$ are Hopf quasigroups such that their antipodes are isomorphisms, a Hopf quasigroup $X$ admits a factorization as $X=AH$ iff $X$ is isomorphic to a double cross product $A\bowtie H$ as Hopf quasigroups.
We develop an algebraic theory of colored, semigrouplike-flavored and pathlike co-, bi- and Hopf algebras. This is the right framework in which to discuss antipodes for bialgebras naturally appearing in combinatorics, topology, number theory and physics. In particular, we can precisely give conditions for the invertibility of characters that is needed for renormalization in the formulation of Connes and Kreimer. These are met in the relevant examples. In order to construct antipodes, we discuss formal localization constructions and quantum deformations. These allow to define and explain the ap…
We explore special features of the pair (U^*, U_*) formed by the right and left dual over a (left) bialgebroid U in case the bialgebroid is, in particular, a left Hopf algebroid. It turns out that there exists a bialgebroid morphism S^* from one dual to another that extends the construction of the antipode on the dual of a Hopf algebra, and which is an isomorphism if U is both a left and right Hopf algebroid. This structure is derived from Phung's categorical equivalence between left and right comodules over U without the need of a (Hopf algebroid) antipode, a result which we review and extend…
By using the language of cogroupoids, we show that Hopf-Galois objects of a twisted Calabi-Yau Hopf algebra with bijective antipode are still twisted Calabi-Yau, and give their Nakayama automorphism explicitly. As applications, cleft Galois objects of twisted Calabi-Yau Hopf algebras and Hopf-Galois objects of the quantum automorphism groups of non-degenerate bilinear forms are proved to be twisted Calabi-Yau.
The graph algebra is a commutative, cocommutative, graded, connected incidence Hopf algebra, whose basis elements correspond to finite simple graphs and whose Hopf product and coproduct admit simple combinatorial descriptions. We give a new formula for the antipode in the graph algebra in terms of acyclic orientations; our formula contains many fewer terms than Takeuchi's and Schmitt's more general formulas for the antipode in an incidence Hopf algebra. Applications include several formulas (some old and some new) for evaluations of the Tutte polynomial.
In this paper we classify the finite-dimensional pointed rank one Hopf algebras which are generated as algebras by the first element of the coradical filtration over a field of prime characteristic.
Motivated by the Hopf algebra structures established on free commutative Rota-Baxter algebras, we explore Hopf algebra related structures on free commutative Nijenhuis algebras. Applying a cocycle condition, we first prove that a free commutative Nijenhuis algebra on a left counital bialgebra (in the sense that the right-sided counicity needs not hold) can be enriched to a left counital bialgebra. We then establish a general result that a connected graded left counital bialgebra is a left counital right antipode Hopf algebra in the sense that the antipode is also only right-sided. We finally a…
We provide examples of non-surjective epimorphisms $H\to K$ in the category of Hopf algebras over a field, even with the additional requirement that $K$ have bijective antipode, by showing that the universal map from a Hopf algebra to its enveloping Hopf algebra with bijective antipode is an epimorphism in $\halg$, although it is known that it need not be surjective. Dual results are obtained for the problem of whether monomorphisms in the category of Hopf algebras are necessarily injective. We also notice that these are automatically examples of non-faithfully flat and respectively non-faithf…
It is proved in the paper that a Noetherian residually finite dimensional Hopf algebra is a flat module over any right Noetherian right coideal subalgebra. In the case of Hopf subalgebras we get faithful flatness. These results are obtained by verifying the existence of the classical quotient rings of those algebras. It is also proved that the antipode of either right or left Noetherian residually finite dimensional Hopf algebra is bijective. As a consequence, such a Hopf algebra is right and left Noetherian simultaneously.
Let $H$ be a pointed Hopf algebra. We show that under some mild assumptions $H$ and its associated graded Hopf algebra $\gr H$ have the same Gelfand-Kirillov dimension. As an application, we prove that the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of a connected Hopf algebra is either infinity or a positive integer. We also classify connected Hopf algebras of GK-dimension three over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero.
We introduce a notion of antipode for monoidal (complete) decomposition spaces, inducing a notion of weak antipode for their incidence bialgebras. In the connected case, this recovers the usual notion of antipode in Hopf algebras. In the non-connected case it expresses an inversion principle of more limited scope, but still sufficient to compute the Möbius function as $μ= ζ\circ S$, just as in Hopf algebras. At the level of decomposition spaces, the weak antipode takes the form of a formal difference of linear endofunctors $S_{\textrm{even}} - S_{\textrm{odd}}$, and it is a refinement of the g…
The Adams operators $Ψ_n$ on a Hopf algebra $H$ are the convolution powers of the identity of $H$. We study the Adams operators when $H$ is graded connected. They are also called Hopf powers or Sweedler powers. The main result is a complete description of the characteristic polynomial (both eigenvalues and their multiplicities) for the action of the operator $Ψ_n$ on each homogeneous component of $H$. The eigenvalues are powers of $n$. The multiplicities are independent of $n$, and in fact only depend on the dimension sequence of $H$. These results apply in particular to the antipode of $H$ (t…
Let $p$ be a prime. We complete the classification on pointed Hopf algebras of dimension $p^2$ over an algebraically closed field $k$. When $\text{char}k \neq p$, our result is the same as the well-known result for $\text{char}k=0$. When $\text{char}k=p$, we obtain 14 types of pointed Hopf algebras of dimension $p^2$, including a unique noncommutative and noncocommutative type.
We classify pointed $p^3$-dimensional Hopf algebras $H$ over any algebraically closed field $k$ of prime characteristic $p>0$. In particular, we focus on the cases when the group $G(H)$ of group-like elements is of order $p$ or $p^2$, that is, when $H$ is pointed but is not connected nor a group algebra. This work provides many new examples of (parametrized) non-commutative and non-cocommutative finite-dimensional Hopf algebras in positive characteristic.
The Structure Theorem for Hopf modules states that if a bialgebra $H$ is a Hopf algebra (i.e. it is endowed with a so-called antipode) then every Hopf module $M$ is of the form ${M}^{\mathrm{co}{H}}\otimes H$, where ${M}^{\mathrm{co}{H}}$ denotes the space of coinvariant elements in $M$. Actually, it has been shown that this result characterizes Hopf algebras: $H$ is a Hopf algebra if and only if every Hopf module $M$ can be decomposed in such a way. The main aim of this paper is to extend this characterization to the framework of quasi-bialgebras by introducing the notion of preantipode and b…
We investigate the property of being Frobenius for some functors strictly related with Hopf modules over a bialgebra and how this property reflects on the latter. In particular, we characterize one-sided Hopf algebras with anti-(co)multiplicative one-sided antipode as those for which the free Hopf module functor is Frobenius. As a by-product, this leads us to relate the property of being an FH-algebra (in the sense of Pareigis) for a given bialgebra with the property of being Frobenius for certain naturally associated functors.
Let $H$ be a crossed group-cograded Hopf quasigroup. We first introduce the notion of $p$-Yetter-Drinfeld quasimodule over $H$. If the antipode of $H$ is bijective, we show that the category $\mathscr Y\mathscr D\mathscr Q(H)$ of Yetter-Drinfeld quasimodules over $H$ is a crossed category, and the subcategory $\mathscr Y\mathscr D(H)$ of Yetter-Drinfeld modules is a braided crossed category.
A certain class of rank two pointed Hopf algebras is considered. The simple modules of their Drinfel'd double is described using Radford's method \cite{rad}. The socle of the tensor product of two such modules is computed and a formula similar to the one in \cite{one} is obtained in some conditions. Cases when such a tensor product is completely irreducible are also given in the last section.
We define the concept of \emph{companion automorphism} of a Hopf algebra $H$ as an automorphism $σ:H \rightarrow H$: $σ^2=S^2$ --where $S$ denotes the antipode--. A Hopf algebra is said to be \emph{almost involutive} (AI) if it admits a companion automorphism that can be viewed as a special additional symmetry. We present examples and study some of the basic properties and constructions of AI-Hopf algebras centering the attention in the finite dimensional case. In particular we show that within the family of Hopf algebras of dimension smaller or equal than 15, only in dimension eight and twelv…
Schur functions provide an integral basis of the ring of symmetric functions. It is shown that this ring has a natural Hopf algebra structure by identifying the appropriate product, coproduct, unit, counit and antipode, and their properties. Characters of covariant tensor irreducible representations of the classical groups GL(n), O(n) and Sp(n) are then expressed in terms of Schur functions, and the Hopf algebra is exploited in the determination of group-subgroup branching rules and the decomposition of tensor products. The analysis is carried out in terms of n-independent universal characters…
We introduce the concept of Hopf-Galois system, a reformulation of the notion of Galois extension of the base field for a Hopf algebra. The main feature of our definition is a generalization of the antipode of an ordinary Hopf algebra. The main application of Hopf-Galois systems is the construction of monoidal equivalences between comodule categories over Hopf algebras.
Three equivalent methods allow to compute the antipode of the Hopf algebras of Feynman diagrams in perturbative quantum field theory (QFT): the Dyson-Salam formula, the Bogoliubov formula, and the Zimmermann forest formula. Whereas the first two hold generally for arbitrary connected graded Hopf algebras, the third one requires extra structure properties of the underlying Hopf algebra but has the nice property to reduce drastically the number of terms in the expression of the antipode (it is optimal in that sense). The present article is concerned with the forest formula: we show that it genera…
Let $k$ be a commutative ring, $H$ a faithfully flat Hopf algebra with bijective antipode, $A$ a $k$-flat right $H$-comodule algebra. We investigate when a relative Hopf module is projective over the subring of coinvariants $B=A^{{\rm co}H}$, and we study the semisimplicity of the category of relative Hopf modules.
Let H be a Hopf algebra with antipode S, and let A be an N-Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra. We study connections between the Nakayama automorphism of A and S^2 of H when H coacts on A inner-faithfully. Several applications pertaining to Hopf actions on Artin-Schelter regular algebras are given.
We introduce a Hopf algebra structure of subword complexes, including both finite and infinite types. We present an explicit cancellation free formula for the antipode using acyclic orientations of certain graphs, and show that this Hopf algebra induces a natural non-trivial sub-Hopf algebra on $c$-clusters in the theory of cluster algebras.
We survey a vast array of known results and techniques in the area of polynomial identities in pointed Hopf algebras. Some new results are proven in the setting of Hopf algebras that appeared in papers of D. Radford and N. Andruskiewitsch - H.-J. Schneider.
We study the representations of two types of pointed Hopf algebras: restricted two-parameter quantum groups, and the Drinfel'd doubles of rank one pointed Hopf algebras of nilpotent type. We study, in particular, under what conditions a simple module can be factored as the tensor product of a one dimensional module with a module that is naturally a module for the quotient by central group-like elements.
In this work a combinatorial description is provided of a Faa di Bruno type Hopf algebra which naturally appears in the context of Fliess operators in nonlinear feedback control theory. It is a connected graded commutative and non-cocommutative Hopf algebra defined on rooted circle trees. A cancellation free forest formula for its antipode is given.
We describe all finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras whose infinitesimal braiding is a fixed Yetter-Drinfeld module decomposed as the sum of two simple objects: a point and the one of transpositions of the symmetric group in three letters. We give a presentation by generators and relations of the corresponding Nichols algebra and show that Andruskiewitsch-Schneider Conjecture holds for this kind of pointed Hopf algebras.
Every finite dimensional Hopf algebra is a Frobenius algebra, with Frobenius homomorphism given by an integral. The Nakayama automorphism determined by it yields a decomposition with degrees in a cyclic group. For a family of pointed Hopf algebras, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for this decomposition to be strongly graded.
This article serves a two-fold purpose. On the one hand, it is a survey about the classification of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical, whose final step is the computation of the liftings or deformations of graded Hopf algebras. On the other, we present a step-by-step guide to carry out the strategy developed to construct the liftings. As an example, we conclude the work with the classification of pointed Hopf algebras of type $B_2$.
We show that any finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over an abelian group $Γ$ such that its infinitesimal braiding is of standard type is generated by group-like and skew-primitive elements. This fact agrees with the long-standing conjecture by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. We also show that the quantum Serre relations hold in any coradically graded pointed Hopf algebra over $Γ$ of finite dimension and determine how these relations are lifted in the standard case.
Most of pointed Hopf algebras of dimension $p^m$ with large coradical are shown to be generalized path algebras. By the theory of generalized path algebras it is obtained that the representations, homological dimensions and radicals of these Hopf algebras. The relations between the radicals of path algebras and connectivity of directed graphs are given.
We study the pointed or copointed liftings of Nichols algebras associated to affine racks and constant cocycles for any finite group admitting a principal YD-realization of these racks. In the copointed case we complete the classification for the six affine racks whose Nichols algebra is known to be of finite dimension. In the pointed case our method allows us to finish four of them. In all of the cases the Hopf algebras obtained turn out to be cocycle deformations of their associated graded Hopf algebras. All of them are new examples of finite-dimensional copointed or pointed Hopf algebras ov…
We examine actions of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras on central simple division algebras in characteristic 0. (By a Hopf action we mean a Hopf module algebra structure.) In all examples considered, we show that the given Hopf algebra does admit a faithful action on a central simple division algebra, and we construct such a division algebra. This is in contrast to earlier work of Etingof and Walton, in which it was shown that most pointed Hopf algebras do not admit faithful actions on fields. We consider all bosonizations of Nichols algebras of finite Cartan type, small quantum groups…
We develop some techniques to the study of exact module categories over some families of pointed finite-dimensional Hopf algebras. As an application we classify exact module categories over the tensor category of representations of the small quantum groups $u_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$.
We classify pointed Hopf algebras of discrete corepresentation type over an algebraically closed field K with characteristic zero. For such algebras $H$, we explicitly determine the algebra structure up to isomorphism for the link indecomposable component $B$ containing the unit. It turns out that $H$ is a crossed product of $B$ and a certain group algebra.
We show that all finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with the same diagram in the classification scheme of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider are cocycle deformations of each other. This is done by giving first a suitable characterization of such Hopf algebras, which allows for the application of a result of Masuoka about Morita-Takeuchi equivalence and of Schauenburg about Hopf Galois extensions. The "infinitesimal" part of the deforming cocycle and of the deformation determine the deformed multiplication and can be described explicitly in terms of Hochschild cohomology. Applications to, and …
