It is proved in the paper that a Noetherian residually finite dimensional Hopf algebra is a flat module over any right Noetherian right coideal subalgebra. In the case of Hopf subalgebras we get faithful flatness. These results are obtained by verifying the existence of the classical quotient rings of those algebras. It is also proved that the antipode of either right or left Noetherian residually finite dimensional Hopf algebra is bijective. As a consequence, such a Hopf algebra is right and left Noetherian simultaneously.

Flatness over PI coideal subalgebras

Under the assumption that a residually finite dimensional Hopf algebra H has an Artinian ring of fractions it is proved that H is a flat module over any right coideal subalgebra satisfying a polynomial identity and is faithfully flat over any polynomial identity Hopf subalgebra. As a consequence we find a large class of Hopf algebras which are flat over all coideal subalgebras and are faithfully flat over all Hopf subalgebras.

Unruffled extensions and flatness over central subalgebras

A condition on an affine central subalgebra $Z$ of a noetherian algebra $A$ of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, which we call here \emph{unruffledness}, is shown to be equivalent in some circumstances to the flatness of $A$ as a $Z$-module. Unruffledness was studied by Borho and Joseph in work on enveloping algebras of complex semisimple Lie algebras, and we discuss applications of our result to enveloping algebras, as well as beginning the study of this condition for more general algebras.

Chain coalgebras and distributivity

We show that coalgebras whose lattice of right coideals is distributive are coproducts of coalgebras whose lattice of right coideals is a chain. Those chain coalgebras are characterized as finite duals of noetherian chain rings whose residue field is a finite dimensional division algebra over the base field. The finite Rat-splitting for coalgebras

Let $C$ be a coalgebra. We investigate the problem of when the rational part of every finitely generated $C^*$-module $M$ is a direct summand $M$. We show that such a coalgebra must have at most countable dimension, $C$ must be artinian as right $C^*$-module and injective as left $C^*$-module. Also in this case $C^*$ is a left Noetherian ring.
