Let $R$ be a graded ring. We introduce a class of graded $R$-modules called Gröbner-coherent modules. Roughly, these are graded $R$-modules that are coherent as ungraded modules because they admit an adequate theory of Gröbner bases. The class of Gröbner-coherent modules is formally similar to the class of coherent modules: for instance, it is an abelian category closed under extension. However, Gröbner-coherent modules come with tools for effective computation that are not present for coherent modules.
In this paper, we define weakly coherent rings, and examine the transfer of these rings to homomorphic image, trivial ring extension, localization, and direct product. These results provide examples of weakly coherent rings that are not coherent rings. We show that the class of weakly coherent rings is not stable by localization. Also, we show that the class of weakly coherent rings and the class of strongly 2-coherent rings are not comparable.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring. If the nilpotent radical $Nil(R)$ of $R$ is a divided prime ideal, then $R$ is called a $ϕ$-ring. In this paper, we first distinguish the classes of nonnil-coherent rings and $ϕ$-coherent rings introduced by Bacem and Ali [10], and then characterize nonnil-coherent rings in terms of $ϕ$-flat modules and nonnil-FP-injective modules. A $ϕ$-ring $R$ is called a $ϕ$-IF ring if any nonnil-injective module is $ϕ$-flat. We obtain some module-theoretic characterizations of $ϕ$-IF rings. Two examples are given to distinguish $ϕ$-IF rings and IF $ϕ$-rings.
We compute the Gorenstein weak dimension of a coherent power series rings over a commutative rings and we show that, in general, $\gwd(R) \leq 1$ does not imply that $R$ is an arithmetical ring.
The concept of Gorenstein dimension, defined by Auslander and Bridger for finitely generated modules over a Noetherian ring, is studied in the context of finitely presented modules over a coherent ring. A generalization of the Auslander-Bridger formula is established and is used as a cornerstone in the development of a theory of coherent Gorenstein rings.
Several authors have introduced various type of coherent-like rings and proved analogous results on these rings. It appears that all these relative coherent rings and all the used techniques can be unified. In [2], several coherent-like rings are unified. In this manuscript we continue this work and we introduce coherent-like module which also emphasizes our point of view by unifying the existed relative coherent concepts. Several classical results are generalized and some new results are given.
In this paper, we introduce and study the class $S$-$\mathcal{F}$-ML of $S$-Mittag-Leffler modules with respect to all flat modules. We show that a ring $R$ is $S$-coherent if and only if $S$-$\mathcal{F}$-ML is closed under submodules. As an application, we obtain the $S$-version of Chase Theorem: a ring $R$ is $S$-coherent if and only if any direct product of $R$ is $S$-flat if and only if any direct product of flat $R$-modules is $S$-flat. Consequently, we provide an answer to the open question proposed by D. Bennis and M. El Hajoui [3].
We investigate the behavior of four coherent-like conditions in regular conductor squares. In particular, we find necessary and sufficient conditions in order that a pullback ring be a finite conductor ring, a coherent ring, a generalized GCD ring, or quasi-coherent ring. As an application of these results, we are able to determine exactly when the ring of integer-valued polynomials determined by a finite subset possesses one of the four coherent-like properties.
A ring $R$ is called left GF-closed, if the class of all Gorenstein flat left $R$-modules is closed under extensions. The class of left GF-closed rings includes strictly the one of right coherent rings and the one of rings of finite weak dimension. In this paper, we investigate the Gorenstein flat dimension over left GF-closed rings. Namely, we generalize the fact that the class of all Gorenstein flat left modules is projectively resolving over right coherent rings to left GF-closed rings. Also, we generalize the characterization of Gorenstein flat left modules (then of Gorenstein flat dimensi…
This paper introduces and studies homological properties of new classes of modules, namely, the $\mathcal F_1$-flat modules and the $\mathcal F_1^{\fp}$-flat modules, where $\mathcal F_1$ stands for the class of right modules of flat dimension at most one and $\mathcal F_1^{\fp}$ its subclass consisting of finitely presented elements. This leads us to introduce a new class of rings that we term $\mathcal F_1^{\fp}$-coherent rings as they behave nicely with respect to $\mathcal F_1^{\fp}$-flat modules as do coherent rings with respect to flat modules. The new class of $\mathcal F_1^{\fp}$-coher…
Let R be a graded ring and n > 1 an integer. In this paper, We introduce the notions of Ding n-gr-injective and Ding n-gr-flat modules by using of special finitely presented graded modules . Then, some properties of Ding n-gr-injective and Ding n-gr-flat modules are obtained. On n-gr-coherent rings, we investigate the relationships among Ding n-gr-injective and Ding n-gr-flat modules and also, we prove that any graded module in R-gr (resp. gr-R) admits an Ding n-gr-injective (resp. Ding n-gr-flat) cover and preenvelope.
We prove that the class of Gorenstein projective modules is special precovering over any left GF-closed ring such that every Gorenstein projective module is Gorenstein flat and every Gorenstein flat module has finite Gorenstein projective dimension. This class of rings includes (strictly) Gorenstein rings, commutative noetherian rings of finite Krull dimension, as well as right coherent and left n-perfect rings. In section 4 we give examples of left GF-closed rings that have the desired properties (every Gorenstein projective module is Gorenstein flat and every Gorenstein flat has finite Goren…
The main aim of this paper is to investigate new class of rings called, for positive integers $n$ and $d$, $G-(n,d)-$rings, over which every $n$-presented module has a Gorenstein projective dimension at most $d$. Hence we characterize $n$-coherent $G-(n,0)-$rings. We conclude by various examples of $G-(n,d)-$rings.
Recentely, Anderson and Dumitrescu's $S$-finiteness has attracted the interest of several authors. In this paper, we introduce the notions of $S$-finitely presented modules and then of $S$-coherent rings which are $S$-versions of finitely presented modules and coherent rings, respectively. Among other results, we give an $S$-version of the classical Chase's characterization of coherent rings. We end the paper with a brief discussion on other $S$-versions of finitely presented modules and coherent rings. We prove that these last $S$-versions can be characterized in terms of localization.
It is shown that the ring of periodic distributions is a coherent ring (with the operations of pointwise addition and convolution) by showing that the isomorphic ring $s'$ of the Fourier coefficients (of sequences of at most polynomial growth) with termwise operations is coherent. Moreover, it is shown that the subring $\ell^\infty$ of $s'$ of all bounded sequences is coherent too, while the subring $c$ of $\ell^\infty$ of all convergent sequences is not coherent. It is also observed that $s'$ is a Hermite ring, but not a projective free ring.
Let $C$ be a semidualizing module. We first investigate the properties of finitely generated $G_C$-projective modules. Then, relative to $C$, we introduce and study the rings of Gorenstein (weak) global dimensions at most 1, which we call $C$-Gorenstein (semi)hereditary rings, and prove that every $C$-Gorenstein hereditary ring is both coherent and $C$-Gorenstein semihereditary.
Using the facts that the disk algebra and the Wiener algebra are not coherent, we prove that the polydisc algebra, the ball algebra and the Wiener algebra of the polydisc are not coherent.
Let R be a ring, X a class of R-modules and n>1 an integer. In this paper, via special finitely presented modules, we introduce the concepts of Gorenstein n-X-injective and n-X-flat modules. And aside, we obtain some equivalent properties of these modules on n-X-coherent rings. Then, we investigate the relations among Gorenstein n-X-injective, n-X-flat, injective and flat modules on X-FC-rings (i.e., self n-X-injective and n-X-coherent rings). Several known results are generalized to this new context
Let R be a commutative ring. If P is a maximal ideal of R whose a power is finitely generated then we prove that P is finitely generated if R is either locally coherent or arithmetical or a polynomial ring over a ring of global dimension $\le$ 2. And if P is a prime ideal of R whose a power is finitely generated then we show that P is finitely generated if R is either a reduced coherent ring or a polynomial ring over a reduced arithmetical ring. These results extend a theorem of Roitman, published in 2001, on prime ideals of coherent integral domains.
In this paper, the notions of nonnil-injective modules and nonnil-FP-injective modules are introduced and studied. Especially, we show that a $ϕ$-ring $R$ is an integral domain if and only if any nonnil-injective (resp., nonnil-FP-injective) module $R$-module is injective (resp., FP-injective). Some new characterizations of $ϕ$-von Neumann regular rings, nonnil-Notherian rings and nonnil-coherent rings are given. We finally characterize $ϕ$-Dedekind rings and $ϕ$-\Prufer\ rings in terms of $ϕ$-flat modules, nonnil-injective modules and nonnil-FP-injective modules.
Let R be a quotient ring of a commutative coherent regular ring by a finitely generated ideal. Hovey gave a bijection between the set of coherent subcategories of the category of finitely presented R-modules and the set of thick subcategories of the derived category of perfect R-complexes. Using this isomorphism, he proved that every coherent subcategory of finitely presented R-modules is a Serre subcategory. In this paper, it is proved that this holds whenever R is a commutative noetherian ring. This paper also yields a module version of the bijection between the set of localizing subcategori…
This paper investigates coherent-like conditions and related properties that a trivial extension might inherit from the ground ring over some classes of modules. It captures previous results dealing primarily with coherence, and also establishes satisfactory analogues of well-known coherence-like results on pullback constructions. Our results generate new families of examples of rings (with zerodivisors) subject to a given coherent-like condition.
A classic result by Raynaud and Gruson says that the notion of an (infinite dimensional) vector bundle is Zariski local. This result may be viewed as a particular instance (for n = 0) of the locality of more general notions of quasi-coherent sheaves related to (infinite dimensional) n-tilting modules and classes. Here, we prove the latter locality for all n and all schemes. We also prove that the notion of a tilting module descends along arbitrary faithfully flat ring morphisms in several particular cases (including the case when the base ring is noetherian).
It is proved that if a ring is left hereditary, left perfect and right coherent, then the stable category has cokernels. Moreover, we show that the condition for a ring to be left perfect and right coherent is also necessary for the stable category to have cokernels, provided that the ring is left hereditary and satisfies the additional condition that there are no non-trivial projective injective left modules over it (satisfied, for instance, by integral domains). This, in particular, implies that, for a Dedekind domain, the stable category has cokernels if and only if the domain is left perfe…
Let R be a ring (not necessarily commutative). A left R-module is said to be cotorsion if Ext 1 R (G, M) = 0 for any flat R-module G. It is well known that each pure-injective left R-module is cotorsion, but the converse does not hold: for instance, if R is left perfect but not left pure-semisimple then each left R-module is cotorsion but there exist non-pure-injective left modules. The aim of this paper is to describe the class C of commutative rings R for which each cotorsion R-module is pure-injective. It is easy to see that C contains the class of von Neumann regular rings and the one of p…
The face ring of a simplicial complex modulo m generic linear forms is shown to have finite local cohomology if and only if the link of every face of dimension m or more is `nonsingular', i.e., has the homology of a wedge of spheres of the expected dimension. This is derived from an enumerative result for local cohomology of face rings modulo generic linear forms, as compared with local cohomology of the face ring itself. The enumerative result is generalized in slightly weaker form to squarefree modules. A concept of `Cohen-Macaulay in codimension c' is defined and characterized for arbitrary…
