Leading-twist operators have a remarkable property that their divergence vanishes in a free theory. Recently it was suggested that this property can be used for an alternative technique to calculate anomalous dimensions of leading-twist operators and allows one to gain one order in perturbation theory so that, i.e., two-loop anomalous dimensions can be calculated from one-loop Feynman diagrams, etc. In this work we study feasibility of this program on a toy-model example of the $φ^3$ theory in six dimensions. Our conclusion is that this approach is valid, although it does not seem to present considerable technical simplifications as compared to the standard technique. It does provide one, however, with a very nontrivial check of the calculation as the structure of the contributions is very different.
The physical states of N=4 conformal supergravity in four dimensions occur in twistor-string theory by Berkovits and Witten(hep-th/0406051). We study two alternative versions of twistor-string theory based on the B-model of weighted projective space WCP^{3|2} and based on a certain construction involving open strings. The spacetime fields described by the twistor superfields contain the physical states of N=1 conformal supergravity from above N=4 superspace approach.
We discuss conformal symmetry on the two dimensional noncommutative plane equipped with Moyal product in the twist deformed context. We show that the consistent use of the twist procedure leads to results which are free from ambiguities. This lends support to the importance of the use of twist symmetries in noncommutative geometry.
A Lagrangian of the topological field theory is found in the twisted osp(2|2)\oplus osp(2|2)conformal super algebra. The reduction on a moduli space is then elaborated through the vanishing Noether current.
We propose a closed expression for the three loop anomalous dimension of a class of twist-3 operators built with gauge fields and covariant derivatives. To this aim, we solve the long-range Bethe Ansatz equations at finite spin and provide a consistent analytical formula obtained assuming maximal transcendentality violation as suggested by the known one-loop anomalous dimension. The final result reproduces the universal cusp anomalous dimension and obeys recursion relations inspired by the principle of reciprocity invariance.
We review the computation of the anomalous dimension of twist operators in the planar limit of N=4 SYM using the asymptotic Bethe ansatz and demonstrate how this quantity is obtained at weak, strong and intermediate values of the coupling constant. The anomalous dimension of twist operators in the limit of large Lorentz spin played a major role in the construction as well as in many tests of the asymptotic Bethe equations, this aspect of the story is emphasised.
The conformal weights of spherical twist operators at non--zero (Euclidean) chemical potential are computed for free Dirac fields in arbitrary dimensions. An image technique, equivalent to replicas, is again used to obtain the $n$--fold cover quantities. The proof of a conjecture made by Bueno, Myers and Witczac--Krempa regarding the relation between the conformal weights and a corner coefficient in the Rényi entropy, given before for scalar fields, is extended to the fermion case. The variation of the weights with chemical potential indicates phase changes.
We consider twist-3 operators in the sl(2) sector of N=4 SYM built out of three scalar fields with derivatives. We extract from the Bethe Ansatz equations of this sector the exact lowest anomalous dimension gamma(s) of scaling fields for several values of the operator spin s. We propose compact closed expressions for the spin dependence of gamma(s) up to the four loop level and show that they obey a simple new twist-3 transcendentality principle. As a check, we reproduce the four loop universal cusp anomalous dimension governing the logarithmic large spin limit of gamma(s).
We study non-perturbative interpolating functions to probe the physics of anomalous dimensions associated with twist-two operators in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM of finite and infinite spin. Compared to previous studies, the novel result of this paper is to introduce single multivariate functions of both coupling $g$ and spin $j$ to approximate such anomalous dimensions. We provide a unified framework to study such operators in interim ranges of the parameters which so far has eluded previous results. Explicitly, we consider twist-two anomalous dimensions in two distinct scenarios using interpolating fun…
In the framework of gauge invariant approach involving Stueckelberg and auxiliary fields, totally symmetric arbitrary spin anomalous conformal current and shadow field in flat space-time of dimension greater than or equal to four are studied. Gauge invariant differential constraints for such anomalous conformal current and shadow field and realization of global conformal symmetries are obtained. Gauge invariant two-point vertex of the arbitrary spin anomalous shadow field is also obtained. In Stueckelberg gauge frame, the two-point gauge invariant vertex becomes the standard two-point vertex o…
We reinterpret the Scherk-Schwarz (SS) boundary condition for SU(2)_R in a compactified five-dimensional (5D) Poincare supergravity in terms of the twisted SU(2)_U gauge fixing in 5D conformal supergravity. In such translation, only the compensator hypermultiplet is relevant to the SS twist, and various properties of the SS mechanism can be easily understood. Especially we show the equivalence between the SS twist and boundary constant superpotentials at the full supergravity level.
We investigate the relationship between conformal and spin structure on lorentzian manifolds and see how their compatibility influences the formulation of rigid supersymmetric field theories. In dimensions three, four, six and ten, we show that if the Dirac current associated with a generic spinor defines a null conformal Killing vector then the spinor must obey a twistor equation with respect to a certain connection with torsion. Of the theories we consider, those with classical superconformal symmetry in Minkowski space can be reformulated as rigid supersymmetric theories on any lorentzian m…
We apply the framework of Rychkov-Tan arXiv:1505.00963 to the codimension two twist defect at the Wilson-Fisher fixed point in $4-ε$ dimensions. We obtain the scaling dimensions of the operators on the defect up to the lowest nontrivial order in the $ε$-expansion without using Feynman diagram computation. Our results agree with the known results.
In this paper we consider anomalous dimensions of double trace operators at large spin ($\ell$) and large twist ($τ$) in CFTs in arbitrary dimensions ($d\geq 3$). Using analytic conformal bootstrap methods, we show that the anomalous dimensions are universal in the limit $\ell\gg τ\gg 1$. In the course of the derivation, we extract an approximate closed form expression for the conformal blocks arising in the four point function of identical scalars in any dimension. We compare our results with two different calculations in holography and find perfect agreement.
We present new non-Ricci-flat Kahler metrics with U(N) and O(N) isometries as target manifolds of superconformally invariant sigma models with an anomalous dimension. They are so-called Ricci solitons, special solutions to a Ricci-flow equation. These metrics explicitly contain the anomalous dimension and reduce to Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on the canonical line bundles over certain coset spaces in the limit of vanishing anomalous dimension.
In this article we calculate the five-loop anomalous dimension of twist-two operators in the planar N=4 SYM theory. Firstly, using reciprocity, we derive the contribution of the asymptotic Bethe ansatz. Subsequently, we employ the first finite-size correction for the AdS5xS5 sigma model to determine the wrapping correction. The anomalous dimension found in this way passes all known tests provided by the NLO BFKL equation and double-logarithmic constraints. This result thus furnishes an infinite number of experimental data for testing the veracity of the recently proposed spectral equations for…
We extend and develop a method for perturbative calculations of anomalous dimensions and mixing matrices of leading twist conformal primary operators in conformal field theories. Such operators lie on the unitarity bound and hence are conserved (irreducible) in the free theory. The technique relies on the known pattern of breaking of the irreducibility conditions in the interacting theory. We relate the divergence of the conformal operators via the field equations to their descendants involving an extra field and accompanied by an extra power of the coupling constant. The ratio of the two-poin…
We consider deformations of a conformal field theory that explicitly break some global symmetries of the theory. If the deformed theory is still a conformal field theory, one can exploit the constraints put by conformal symmetry to compute broken currents anomalous dimensions. We consider several instances of this scenario, using field theory techniques and also holographic ones, where necessary. Field theoretical methods suffice to discuss examples of symmetry-breaking deformations of the $O(N )$ model in $d=4-ε$ dimensions. Holography is instrumental, instead, for computing current anomalous…
We study a gravitational model whose vacuum sector is invariant under conformal transformations. In this model we investigate the anomalous gravitational coupling of the large-scale matter. In this kind of coupling the large-sale matter is taken to couple to a metric which is different but conformally related to the metric appearing explicitly in the vacuum sector. The effect of the conformal symmetry breaking of the large-scale matter would lead in general to a variable strength of the anomalous gravitational coupling. This feature is used to derive a relativistic particle concept which share…
Conformal low-spin anomalous currents and shadow fields in flat space-time of dimension greater than or equal to four are studied. Gauge invariant formulation for such currents and shadow fields is developed. Gauge symmetries are realized by involving Stueckelberg and auxiliary fields. Gauge invariant differential constraints for anomalous currents and shadow fields and realization of global conformal symmetries are obtained. Gauge invariant two-point vertices for anomalous shadow fields are also obtained. In Stueckelberg gauge frame, these gauge invariant vertices become the standard two-poin…
The Wilsonian renormalization group (WRG) equation is used to derive a new class of scale invariant field theories with nonvanishing anomalous dimensions in 2-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models. When the coordinates of the target manifolds have nontrivial anomalous dimensions, vanishing of the $β$ function suggest the existence of novel conformal field theories whose target space is not Ricci flat. We construct such conformal field theories with ${\bf U}(N)$ symmetry. The theory has one free parameter a corresponding to the anomalous dimension of the scalar fields. …
We apply Kadanoff's theory of marginal deformations of conformal field theories to twistfield deformations of Z_2 orbifold models in K3 moduli space. These deformations lead away from the Z_2 orbifold sub-moduli-space and hence help to explore conformal field theories which have not yet been understood. In particular, we calculate the deformation of the conformal dimensions of vertex operators for p^2<1 in second order perturbation theory.
We compute anomalous dimensions of higher spin operators in Conformal Field Theory at arbitrary space-time dimension by using the OPE inversion formula of \cite{Caron-Huot:2017vep}, both from the position space representation as well as from the integral (viz. Mellin) representation of the conformal blocks. The Mellin space is advantageous over the position space not only in allowing to write expressions agnostic to the space-time dimension, but also in that it replaces tedious recursion relations in terms of simple sums which are easy to perform. We evaluate the contributions of scalar and sp…
We consider conformal field theories around points of large twist degeneracy. Examples of this are theories with weakly broken higher spin symmetry and perturbations around generalised free fields. At the degenerate point we introduce twist conformal blocks. These are eigenfunctions of certain quartic operators and encode the contribution, to a given four-point correlator, of the whole tower of intermediate operators with a given twist. As we perturb around the degenerate point, the twist degeneracy is lifted. In many situations this breaking is controlled by inverse powers of the spin. In suc…
We construct novel conformal sigma models in three dimensions. Nonlinear sigma models in three dimensions are nonrenormalizable in perturbation theory. We use Wilsonian renormalization group equation method to find the fixed points. Existence of fixed points is extremely important in this approach to show the renormalizability. Conformal sigma models are defined as the fixed point theories of the Wilsonian renormalization group equation. The Wilsonian renormalization group equation with anomalous dimension coincides with the modified Ricci flow equation. The conformal sigma models are characte…
Within the context of holography we study the general class of $d=4$ conformal field theories after applying a universal helical deformation. At finite temperature we construct the associated black hole solutions of Einstein gravity, numerically, by exploiting a Bianchi $VII_0$ ansatz for the bulk $D=5$ metric. At $T=0$ we show that they flow in the IR to exactly the same CFT. The deformation gives rise to a finite, non-zero DC thermal conductivity along the axis of the helix, which we determine analytically in terms of black hole horizon data. We also calculate the AC thermal conductivity alo…
We show that the first-order symmetry operators of twistor spinors can be constructed from conformal Killing-Yano forms in conformally-flat backgrounds. We express the conditions on conformal Killing-Yano forms to obtain mutually commuting symmetry operators of twistor spinors. Conformal superalgebras which consist of conformal Killing vectors and twistor spinors and play important roles in supersymmetric field theories in conformal backgrounds are extended to more general superalgebras by using the graded Lie algebra structure of conformal Killing-Yano forms and the symmetry operators of twis…
We find a class of fixed point theory for 2- and 3-dimensional non-linear sigma models using Wilsonian renormalization group (WRG) approach. In 2-dimensional case, the fixed point theory is equivalent to the Witten's semi-infinite cigar model. In 3-dimensional case, the theory has one parameter which describes a marginal deformation from the infrared to ultraviolet fixed points of the $CP^N$ model in the theory spaces.
I compute the conformal weights of the twist operators of free scalar fields for charged Rényi entropy in both odd and even dimensions. Explicit expressions can be found, in odd dimensions as a function of the chemical potential in the absence of a conical singularity and thence by images for all integer coverings. This method, developed some time ago, is equivalent, in results, to the replica technique. A review is given. The same method applies for even dimensions but a general form is more immediately available. For no chemical potential, the the closed form in the covering order is written…
Operator algebra of (not necessarily free) higher-spin conformal conserved currents in generalized matrix spaces, that include 3d Minkowski space-time as a particular case, is shown to be determined by an associative algebra $M$ of functions on the twistor space. For free conserved currents, $M$ is the universal enveloping algebra of the higher-spin algebra. Proposed construction greatly simplifies computation and analysis of correlators of conserved currents. Generating function for $n$-point functions of 3d (super)currents of all spins, built from $N$ free constituent massless scalars and sp…
We study some aspects of 2d supersymmetric sigma models on orbifolds. It turns out that independently of whether the 2d QFT is conformal the operator products of twist operators are non-singular, suggesting that massive (non-conformal) orbifolds also `resolve singularities' just as in the conformal case. Moreover we recover the OPE of twist operators for conformal theories by considering the UV limit of the massive orbifold correlation functions. Alternatively, we can use the OPE of twist fields at the conformal point to derive conditions for the existence of non-singular solutions to special …
The result for the six-loop anomalous dimension of twist-three operators in the planar N=4 SYM theory is presented. The calculations were performed along the paper arXiv:0912.1624. This result provides a new data for testing the proposed spectral equations for planar AdS/CFT correspondence.
We compute the non-planar contribution to the anomalous dimension of the eight moment of the twist-2 operators in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at four loops. This result was obtained from the calculations of some elements of the anomalous dimension matrix for twist-2 operators with the help of a relations between its elements and eigenvalues. The properties of the obtained result and a possible relations with a planar results are discussed.
We compute the general form of the six-loop anomalous dimension of twist-two operators with arbitrary spin in planar N=4 SYM theory. First we find the contribution from the asymptotic Bethe ansatz. Then we reconstruct the wrapping terms from the first 35 even spin values of the full six-loop anomalous dimension computed using the quantum spectral curve approach. The obtained anomalous dimension satisfies all known constraints coming from the BFKL equation, the generalised double-logarithmic equation, and the small spin expansion.
We present the result of a full direct component calculation for the first three even moments of the non-planar contribution into the four-loop anomalous dimension of twist-2 operators in maximally extended N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. Obtained result complete our previous calculations in arXiv:0902.4646 and gives the usual result for the higher moments on the contrary to degenerate one in the case of Konishi. We have proposed a general form of zeta(5) and zeta(3) parts of the full non-planar anomalous dimension of twist-2 operators. As by product, we have obtained the first moment of…
We present the result of a calculation for the third and fourth moments of the non-singlet four-loop anomalous dimension of Wilson twist-2 operators in QCD with full color and flavour structures. We discuss also a general expressions for some contributions to the full four-loop anomalous dimension obtained with the help of the method, based on LLL-algorithm, which was proposed earlier by us for the reconstruction of a general form of the anomalous dimension from a fixed values.
Twisted deformations of the conformal symmetry in the Hopf algebraic framework are constructed. The first one is obtained by a Jordanian twist built up from dilatation and momenta generators. The second is the light-like $κ$-deformation of the Poincare algebra extended to the conformal algebra, obtained by a twist corresponding to the extended Jordanian r-matrix. The $κ$-Minkowski spacetime is covariant quantum space under both of these deformations. The extension of the conformal algebra by the noncommutative coordinates is presented in two cases. The differential realizations for $κ$-Minkows…
We compute the non-planar contribution to the universal anomalous dimension of twist-two operators in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at four loops through Lorentz spin eighteen. Exploiting the results of this and our previous calculations along with recent analytic results for the cusp anomalous dimension and some expected analytic properties, we reconstruct a general expression valid for arbitrary Lorentz spin. We study various properties of this general result, such as its large-spin limit, its small-x limit, and others. In particular, we present a prediction for the non-planar contrib…
Nonplanar Four-Loop Anomalous Dimensions of Twist-Two Operators in N=4 Super Yang-Mills Theory: Higher Moment, General Result, and Cusp Anomalous Dimension
By twisting the commutation relations between creation and annihilation operators, we show that quantum conformal invariance can be implemented in the 2-d Moyal plane. This is an explicit realization of an infinite dimensional symmetry as a quantum algebra.
Using some techniques of conformal field theories, we find a closed expression for the contribution of leading twist operators and their descendants, obtained by adding total derivatives, to the operator product expansion (OPE) of two electromagnetic currents in QCD. Our expression resums contributions of all twists and to all orders in perturbation theory up to corrections proportional to the QCD $β$-function. At tree level and to twist-four accuracy, our result agrees with the expression derived earlier by a different method. The results are directly applicable to deeply-virtual Compton scat…
Recently it is found that Weyl anomaly leads to new anomalous currents in an external electromagnetic field in the curved spacetime. For simplicity, the initial works mainly focus on weak gravitational fields and the anomalous current is obtained for conformally flat spaces with small scale factors. In this paper, we generalize the results to the case with arbitrary scale factors. Firstly, we derive the transformation law of current under Weyl transformation, from which one can read off the anomalous current in general conformally flat spaces. Secondly, by using the Weyl transformation of curr…
Recent numerical results point to the existence of a conformally invariant twist defect in the critical 3d Ising model. In this note we show that this fact is supported by both epsilon expansion and conformal bootstrap calculations. We find that our results are in good agreement with the numerical data. We also make new predictions for operator dimensions and OPE coefficients from the bootstrap approach. In the process we derive universal bounds on one-dimensional conformal field theories and conformal line defects.
We compute the contribution to the anomalous dimension of the twist-2 operators in N=4 SYM theory, which is proportional to the number of fermion loops inside Feynman diagrams or, formally, to the number of fermions. The result was obtained by the method based on the calculation of critical indices at the critical point by analogy with previous similar computations in scalar theories and in QCD. The obtained result is much simpler with compare to analogous results in QCD and almost satisfies the maximal transcedentality principle. A possible relation between the obtained result and integrabili…
We consider the conformal blocks in the theories with extended conformal W-symmetry for the integer Virasoro central charges. We show that these blocks for the generalized twist fields on sphere can be computed exactly in terms of the free field theory on the covering Riemann surface, even for a non-abelian monodromy group. The generalized twist fields are identified with particular primary fields of the W-algebra, and we propose a straightforward way to compute their W-charges. We demonstrate how these exact conformal blocks can be effectively computed using the technique arisen from the gaug…
We discuss chiral zero-rest-mass field equations on six-dimensional space-time from a twistorial point of view. Specifically, we present a detailed cohomological analysis, develop both Penrose and Penrose-Ward transforms, and analyse the corresponding contour integral formulae. We also give twistor space action principles. We then dimensionally reduce the twistor space of six-dimensional space-time to obtain twistor formulations of various theories in lower dimensions. Besides well-known twistor spaces, we also find a novel twistor space amongst these reductions, which turns out to be suitable…
We determine the anomalous dimensions of baryon operators for the three color theory as function of the number of massless flavours within the conformal window to the maximum known order in perturbation theory. We show that the anomalous dimension of the baryon is controllably small, within the $δ$-expansion, for a wide range of number of flavours. We also find that this is always smaller than the anomalous dimension of the fermion mass operator. These findings challenge the partial compositeness paradigm.
Employing the operator algebra of the conformal group and the conformal Ward identities, we derive the constraints for the anomalies of dilatation and special conformal transformations of the local twist-2 operators in Quantum Chromodynamics. We calculate these anomalies in the leading order of perturbation theory in the minimal subtraction scheme. From the conformal consistency relation we derive then the off-diagonal part of the anomalous dimension matrix of the conformally covariant operators in the two-loop approximation of the coupling constant in terms of these quantities. We deduce corr…
We present the method, based on the use of the broken conformal Ward identities, for the calculation of the anomalous dimensions of conformal operators beyond the leading order of perturbation theory. By means of this technique we find the complete set of two-loop corrections to the off-diagonal elements of the anomalous dimension matrix (the diagonal ones are known from deep inelastic scattering calculations) of the parity odd and even singlet local operators in the Abelian gauge theory. We reconstruct corresponding exclusive two-loop evolution kernels and give the reduction formulae for the …
We reinterpret the Scherk-Schwarz (SS) boundary condition for SU(2)_R in a compactified five-dimensional (5D) Poincare supergravity in terms of the twisted SU(2)_U gauge fixing in 5D conformal supergravity. In such translation, only the compensator hypermultiplet is relevant to the SS twist, and various properties of the SS mechanism can be easily understood. Especially, we show the correspondence between the SS twist and constant superpotentials within our framework.
We derive the anomalous conformal Ward identities for ${\cal N}=4$ SYM Wilson loops on polygon-like contours with edges formed by circular arcs. With a suitable choice of parameterisation they are very similarly to those for local correlation functions. Their solutions have a conformally covariant factor depending on the distances of the corners times a conformally invariant remainder factor depending, besides on cross ratios of the corners, on the cusp angles and angles parameterising the torsion of the contours.
We study the twist-field representations of W-algebras and generalize construction of the corresponding vertex operators to D- and B-series. It is shown, how the computation of characters of these representations leads to nontrivial identities involving lattice theta-functions. We also propose a way to calculate their exact conformal blocks, expressing them for D-series in terms of geometric data of the corresponding Prym variety for covering curve with involution.
The anomalous dimensions of twist two operators have to satisfy certain consistency requirements derived from BFKL. For N=4 SYM it was shown that at four loops, the anomalous dimensions derived from the all-loop asymptotic Bethe ansatz do not pass this test. In this paper we obtain the remaining wrapping part of these anomalous dimensions from string theory and show that these contributions exactly cure the problem and lead to agreement with both LO and NLO BFKL expectations.
We show that the scale (conformal) anomaly in field theories leads to new anomalous transport effects that emerge in an external electromagnetic field in an inhomogeneous gravitational background. In inflating geometry the QED scale anomaly locally generates an electric current that flows in opposite direction with respect to background electric field (the scale electric effect). In a static spatially inhomogeneous gravitational background the dissipationless electric current flows transversely both to the magnetic field axis and to the gradient of the inhomogeneity (the scale magnetic effect)…
We present algorithmic perturbative solution of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM quantum spectral curve in the case of twist 2 operators, valid to in principle arbitrary order in coupling constant. The latter treats operator spins as arbitrary integer values and is written in terms of special class of functions -- products of rational functions in spectral parameter with sums of Baxter polynomials and Hurwitz functions. It is shown that this class of functions is closed under elementary operations, such as shifts, partial fractions, multiplication by spectral parameter and differentiation. Also, it is full…
