A Hecke action on the space of periods of cusp forms, which is compatible with that on the space of cusp forms, was first computed using continued fraction and an explicit algebraic formula of Hecke operators acting on the space of period functions of modular forms was derived by studying the rational period functions. As an application an elementary proof of the Eichler-Selberg trace formula was derived. Similar modification has been applied to period space of Maass cusp forms with spectral parameter $s$. In this paper we study the space of period functions of Jacobi forms by means of Jacobi integral and give an explicit description of Hecke operator acting on this space. a Jacobi Eisenstein series $E_{2,1}(τ,z)$ of weight 2 and index 1 is discussed as an example. Periods of Jacobi integrals are already appeared as a disguised form in the work of Zwegers to study Mordell integral coming from Lerch sums and mock Jacobi forms are typical example of Jacobi integral.
For a prime number $q\geq 5$ and a positive integer $N$ prime to $q$, Ribet proved the action of the Hecke algebra on the component group of the Jacobian variety of the modular curve of level $Nq$ at $q$ is "Eisenstein", which means the Hecke operator $T_\ell$ acts by $\ell+1$ when $\ell$ is a prime number not dividing the level. In this paper, we completely compute the action of the Hecke algebra on this component group by a careful study of supersingular points with extra automorphisms.
Generalizing a result of~\cite{Z1991} for modular forms of level~one, we give a closed formula for the sum of all Hecke eigenforms on $Γ_0(N)$, multiplied by their odd period polynomials in two variables, as a single product of Jacobi theta series for any squarefree level $N$. We also show that for $N=2$,~3 and~5 this formula completely determines the Fourier expansions of all Hecke eigenforms of all weights on $Γ_0(N)$.
For motives associated with Fermat curves, there are elements in motivic cohomology whose regulators are written in terms of special values of generalized hypergeometric functions. Using them, we verify the Beilinson conjecture numerically for some cases and find formulae for the values of L-functions at 0. These appear analogous to the Chowla-Selberg formula for the periods of elliptic curves with complex multiplication, which are related with the L-values at 1 by the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.
We establish a one-to-one correspondence between conjugacy classes of any Hecke group and irreducible systems of poles of rational period functions for automorphic integrals on the same group. We use this correspondence to construct irreducible systems of poles and to count poles. We characterize Hecke-conjugation and Hecke-symmetry for poles of rational period functions in terms of the transpose of matrices in conjugacy classes. We construct new rational period functions and families of rational period functions.
Generalised Heegner cycles are associated to a pair of an elliptic Hecke eigenform and a Hecke character over an imaginary quadratic extension $K/\Q$. Let $p$ be an odd prime split in $K/\Q$ and $l\neq p$ an odd unramified prime. We prove the non-triviality of the $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi image of generalised Heegner cycles modulo $p$ over the $\Z_l$-anticylotomic extension of $K$. The result is an evidence for the refined Bloch-Beilinson and the Bloch-Kato conjecture. In the case of two, it provides a refinement of the results of Cornut and Vatsal on the non-triviality of Heegner points over the …
We prove an algebraic property of the elements defining Hecke operators on period polynomials associated with modular forms, which implies that the pairing on period polynomials corresponding to the Petersson scalar product of modular forms is Hecke equivariant. As a consequence of this proof, we derive two indefinite theta series identities which can be seen as analogues of Jacobi's formula for the theta series associated with the sum of four squares.
In this paper we continue work in the direction of a characterization of rational period functions on the Hecke groups. We examine the role that Hecke-symmetry of poles plays in this setting, and pay particular attention to non-symmetric irreducible systems of poles for a rational period function. This gives us a new expression for a class of rational period functions of any positive even integer weight on the Hecke groups. We illustrate these properties with examples of specific rational period functions. We also correct the wording of a theorem from an earlier paper.
Since the study by Jacobi and Hecke, Hecke-type series have received a lot of attention. Unlike such series associated with indefinite quadratic forms, identities on Hecke-type series associated with definite quadratic forms are quite rare in the literature. Motivated by the works of Liu, we first establish many parameterized identities with two parameters by employing different $q$-transformation formulas and then deduce various Hecke-type identities associated with definite quadratic forms by specializing the choice of these two parameters. As applications, we utilize some of these Hecke-typ…
In this paper we express the multiple Hecke $L$-function in terms of a linear combination of iterated period integrals associated with elliptic cusp forms, which is introduced by Manin around 2004. This expression generalizes the classical formula of Hecke $L$-function obtained by the Mellin transformation of a cusp form. Also the expression gives a way of the analytic continuation of the multipleHecke $L$-function.
We define Jacobi forms with complex multiplication. Analogous to modular forms with complex multiplication, they are constructed from Hecke characters of the associated imaginary quadratic field. From this construction we obtain a Jacobi form which specializes to $η(τ)^{26}$ which we present to highlight an open question of Dyson and Serre. We give other examples and applications of Jacobi forms with complex multiplication including constructing theta blocks associated to elliptic curves with complex multiplication and new families of congruences and cranks for certain partition functions.
We introduce a certain differential (heat) operator on the space of Hermitian Jacobi forms of degree 1, show it's commutation with certain Hecke operators and use it to construct a lift of elliptic cusp forms to Hermitian Jacobi cusp forms. We construct Hermitian Jacobi forms as the image of the tensor product of two copies of Jacobi forms and also from differentiation of the variables. We determine the number of Fourier coefficients that determine a Hermitian Jacobi form and use it to embed a certain subspace of Hermitian Jacobi forms into a direct sum of modular forms for the full modular gr…
We introduce an alternate set of generators for the Hecka algebra, and give an explicit formula for the action of these operators on Fourier coefficients. With this, we compute the eigenvalues of Hecke operators acting on average Siegel theta series with half-integral weight (provided the prime associated to the operators does not divide the level of the theta series). Next, we bound the eigenvalues of these operators in terms of bounds on Fourier coefficients. Then we show that the half-integral weight Kitaoka subspace is stable under all Hecke operators. Finally, we observe that an obvious i…
We describe an implementation for computing holomorphic and skew-holomorphic Jacobi forms of integral weight and scalar index on the full modular group. This implementation is based on formulas derived by one of the authors which express Jacobi forms in terms of modular symbols of elliptic modular forms. Since this method allows to generate a Jacobi eigenform directly from a given modular eigensymbol without reference to the whole ambient space of Jacobi forms it makes it possible to compute Jacobi Hecke eigenforms of large index. We illustrate our method with several examples.
We study various properties of quasimodular forms by using their connections with Jacobi-like forms and pseudodifferential operators. Such connections are made by identifying quasimodular forms for a discrete subgroup $\G$ of $SL(2, \bR)$ with certain polynomials over the ring of holomorphic functions of the Poincaré upper half plane that are $\G$-invariant. We consider a surjective map from Jacobi-like forms to quasimodular forms and prove that it has a right inverse, which may be regarded as a lifting from quasimodular forms to Jacobi-like forms. We use such liftings to study Lie brackets an…
We introduce a new trace formula of Kuznetsov type involving the central standard L-values and the Whittaker periods of cuspidal automorphic representations of PGL_n(Q) which are spherical at the archimedean place. As an application, we show a simultaneous non-vanishing of standard L-values at n-1 points on the critical strip for infinitely many Hecke-Maass cuspidal newforms.
We study period relations of Jacobi forms. It turns out that the relations satisfied by Mordell integral coming from Lerch or Appell sums are the special case of those. The existence of Jacobi integral associated to given period function using generalized Poincaré series is claimed.
We characterize Maass cusp forms for any cofinite Hecke triangle group as 1-eigenfunctions of appropriate regularity of a transfer operator family. This transfer operator family is associated to a certain symbolic dynamics for the geodesic flow on the orbifold arising as the orbit space of the action of the Hecke triangle group on the hyperbolic plane. Moreover we show that the Selberg zeta function is the Fredholm determinant of the transfer operator family associated to an acceleration of this symbolic dynamics.
We study the space of period polynomials associated with modular forms of integral weight for finite index subgroups of the modular group. For the modular group, this space is endowed with a pairing, corresponding to the Petersson inner product on modular forms via a formula of Haberland, and with an action of Hecke operators, defined algebraically by Zagier. We generalize Haberland's formula to (not necessarily cuspidal) modular forms for finite index subgroups, and we show that it conceals two stronger formulas. We extend the action of Hecke operators to period polynomials of modular forms, …
We develop an algorithm to compute Fourier expansions of vector valued modular for Weil representations. As an application, we compute explicit linear equivalences of special divisors on modular varieties of orthogonal type. We define three families of Hecke operators for Jacobi forms, and analyze the induced action on vector valued modular forms. The newspaces attached to one of these families are used to give a more memory efficient version of our algorithm.
For all integers $m \geq n \geq 2$, we exhibit infinite families of purely periodic Jacobi-Perron Algorithm (JPA) expansions of dimension $n$ with period length equal to $m$ along with the associated Hasse-Bernstein units. Some observations on the units of Levesque-Rhin as well as the periodicity of the JPA expansion of $\left( m^{1/3}, m^{2/3} \right)$ are also made.
Let $ϕ= \sum_{r^{2} \leq 4mn}c(n,r)q^{n}ζ^{r}$ be a Jacobi form of weight $k$ (with $k > 2$ if $ϕ$ is not a cusp form) and index $m$ with integral algebraic coefficients which is an eigenfunction of all Hecke operators $T_{p}, (p,m) = 1,$ and which has at least one nonvanishing coefficient $c(n,r)$ with $r$ prime to $m$. We prove that for almost all primes $\ell$ there are infinitely many fundamental discriminants $D = r^{2}-4mn < 0$ prime to $m$ with $ν_{\ell}(c(n,r)) = 0$, where $ν_{\ell}$ denotes a continuation of the $\ell$-adic valuation on $\mathbb{Q}$ to an algebraic closure. As applica…
As a continuation of previous work, we establish sum expressions for $p$-adic Hecke $L$-functions of totally real fields in the sense of Delbourgo, assuming a totally real analog of Heegner hypothesis. This is done by finding explicit formulas of the periods of the corresponding $p$-adic measures. As an application, we extend the Ferrero-Greenberg formula of derivatives of $p$-adic $L$-functions to this setting.
In this paper, we will study various connections between double zeta values relative to $μ_N$, Hecke operators $T_N$, and newforms of level $Γ_0(N)$ for $N=2,3$. Those various connections generalize the well-known of Baumard and Schneps. We also give a conjecture about the Eichler-Shimura-Manin correspondence between $\mathcal{S}_k^{\textrm{new}}(Γ_0(2))^{\pm}$, $\mathcal{S}_k^{\textrm{new}}(Γ_0(3))^{\pm}$ and some period polynomial spaces.
We give a new, simple proof of the trace formula for Hecke operators on modular forms for finite index subgroups of the modular group. The proof uses algebraic properties of certain universal Hecke operators acting on period polynomials of modular forms, and it generalizes an approach developed by Don Zagier and the author for the modular group. This approach leads to a very simple formula for the trace on the space of cusp forms plus the trace on the space of modular forms. As applications, we investigate what happens when varying the weight or the level in the trace formula.
Building on the works of S. Bochner on equivalence of modular relation with functional equation associated to the Dirichlet series, K. Chandrasekharan and R. Narasimhan obtained new equivalences between the functional equation and some arithmetical identities. Sister Ann M. Heath considered the functional equation in the Hawkins and Knopp context and showed its equivalence to two arithmetical identities associated with entire modular cusp integrals involving rational period functions for the full modular group. In this paper we use techniques of Chandrasekharan and Narasimhan and extend the re…
We give a short proof of the trace formula for Hecke operators on modular forms for the modular group, using the action of Hecke operators on the space of period polynomials.
In the context of arithmetic surfaces, Bost defined a generalized Arithmetic Chow Group (ACG) using the Sobolev space L^2_1. We study the behavior of these groups under pull-back and push-forward and we prove a projection formula. We use these results to define an action of the Hecke operators on the ACG of modular curves and to show that they are self-adjoint with respect to the arithmetic intersection product. The decomposition of the ACG in eigencomponents which follows allows us to define new numerical invariants, which are refined versions of the self-intersection of the dualizing sheaf. …
We consider modular functions (i.e., the Eisenstein series and Hecke-Maass forms) for the group PSL(2,Z). We fix a quadratic number field E. This gives rise to twisted (by a Hecke character of the field E) periods of a modular function along the torus corresponding to E. We prove meromorphic continuation for a Dirichlet series generated by these twisted periods.
In this paper we extend the transfer operator approach to Selberg's zeta function for cofinite Fuchsian groups to the Hecke triangle groups G_q, q=3,4,..., which are non-arithmetic for q \not= 3,4,6. For this we make use of a Poincare map for the geodesic flow on the corresponding Hecke surfaces which has been constructed in arXiv:0801.3951 and which is closely related to the natural extension of the generating map for the so called Hurwitz-Nakada continued fractions. We derive simple functional equations for the eigenfunctions of the transfer operator which for eigenvalues rho =1 are expected…
We revisit and elucidate the $\widehat{A}$-genus, Hirzebruch's $L$-genus and Witten's $W$-genus, cobordism invariants of special classes of manifolds. After slight modification, involving Hecke's trick, we find that the $\widehat{A}$-genus and $L$-genus arise directly from Jacobi's theta function. For every $k\geq 0,$ we obtain exact formulas for the quasimodular expressions of $\widehat{A}_k$ and $L_k$ as ``traces'' of partition Eisenstein series \[ \widehat{\mathcal{A}}_k(τ)= \operatorname{Tr}_k(ϕ_{\widehat{A}};τ)\ \ \ \ \ \ {\text {and}}\ \ \ \ \ \ \mathcal{L}_k(τ)= \operatorname{Tr}_k(ϕ_L;…
