We present the Tetrahedral Compactness Theorem which states that sequences of Riemannian manifolds with a uniform upper bound on volume and diameter that satisfy a uniform tetrahedral property have a subsequence which converges in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a countably $\mathcal{H}^m$ rectifiable metric space of the same dimension. The tetrahedral property depends only on distances between points in spheres, yet we show it provides a lower bound on the volumes of balls. The proof is based upon intrinsic flat convergence and a new notion called the sliced filling volume of a ball.
In this paper, we give both positive and negative answers to Gromov's compactness question regarding positive scalar curvature metrics on noncompact manifolds. First we construct examples that give a negative answer to Gromov's compactness question. These examples are based on the non-vanishing of certain index theoretic invariants that arise at the infinity of the given underlying manifold. This is a $ \sideset{}{^1}\varprojlim$ phenomenon and naturally leads one to conjecture that Gromov's compactness question has a positive answer provided that these $ \sideset{}{^1}\varprojlim$ invariants …
We present examples of metric spaces that are not Riemannian manifolds nor dimensionally homogeneous that satisfy the Tetrahedral Property. In spite of that, Euclidean cones over metric spaces with small diameter do not satisfy this property. We extend Sormani's Tetrahedral Property to a less restrictive property and prove that this generalized definition retains all the results of the original Tetrahedral Property proven by Portegies-Sormani: it provides a lower bound on the sliced filling volume and a lower bound on the volumes of balls. Thus sequences with uniform bounds on this Generalized…
In this paper we provide a way of taking $L^p$, $p > \frac{m}{2}$ bounds on a $m-$ dimensional Riemannian metric and transforming that into Hölder bounds for the corresponding distance function. One can think of this new estimate as a type of Morrey inequality for Riemannian manifolds where one thinks of a Riemannian metric as the gradient of the corresponding distance function so that the $L^p$, $p > \frac{m}{2}$ bound analogously implies Hölder control on the distance function. This new estimate is then used to state a compactness theorem, another theorem which guarantees convergence to a pa…

The regularity of limit spaces of Riemannian manifolds with L^p curvature bounds, $p > n/2$, is investigated under no apriori non-collapsing assumption. A regular subset, defined by a local volume growth condition for a limit measure, is shown to carry the structure of a Riemannian manifold. One consequence of this is a compactness theorem for Riemannian manifolds with $L^p$ curvature bounds and an a priori volume growth assumption in the pointed Cheeger-Gromov topology. A different notion of convergence is also studied, which replaces the exhaustion by balls in the pointed Cheeger-Gromov topo…
Motivated by the Atiyah-Floer conjecture, we consider $SO(3)$ Santi-self-dual instantons on the product of the real line and a three-manifold with cylindrical end. We prove a Gromov-Uhlenbeck type compactness theorem, namely, any sequence of such instantons with uniform energy bound has a subsequence converging to a type of singular objects which may have both instanton and holomorphic curve components. This result is the first step towards constructing a natural bounding cochain proposed by Fukaya for the $SO(3)$ Atiyah-Floer conjecture.
The Ricci flow was introduced by Hamilton and gained its importance through the years. Of special importance is the limiting behavior of the flow and its symmetry properties. Taking this into account, we present a novel normalization for the homogeneous Ricci flow with natural compactness properties. In addition, we present a characterization for Gromov-Hausdorff limits of homogeneous spaces. As a result, we present a detailed picture of the homogeneous Ricci flow for three-isotropy-summands flag manifolds: phase portraits, basins of attractions, conjugation classes and collapsing phenomena. M…
Examples show that Riemannian manifolds with almost-Euclidean lower bounds on scalar curvature and Perelman entropy need not be close to Euclidean space in any metric space sense. Here we show that if one additionally assumes an almost-Euclidean upper bound on volumes of geodesic balls, then unit balls in such a space are Gromov-Hausdorff close, and in fact bi-Hölder and bi-$W^{1,p}$ homeomorphic, to Euclidean balls. We prove a compactness and limit space structure theorem under the same assumptions.
