We prove a new kind of estimate that holds on any manifold with lower Ricci bounds. It relates the geometry of two small balls with the same radius, potentially far apart, but centered in the interior of a common minimizing geodesic. It reveals new, previously unknown, properties that all generalized spaces with a lower Ricci curvature bound must have and it has a number of applications.
This new kind of estimate asserts that the geometry of small balls along any minimizing geodesic changes in a Hölder continuous way with a constant depending on the lower bound for the Ricci curvature, the dimension of the manifold, and the distance to the end points of the geodesic. We give examples that show that the Hölder exponent, along with essentially all the other consequences that we show follow from this estimate, are sharp. The unified theme for all of these applications is convexity.
Among the applications is that the regular set is convex for any non-collapsed limit of Einstein metrics. In the general case of potentially collapsed limits of manifolds with just a lower Ricci curvature bound we show that the regular set is weakly convex and $a.e.$ convex, that is almost every pair of points can be connected by a minimizing geodesic whose interior is contained in the regular set. We also show two conjectures of Cheeger-Colding. One of these asserts that the isometry group of any, even collapsed, limit of manifolds with a uniform lower Ricci curvature bound is a Lie group; the key point for this is to rule out small subgroups. The other asserts that the dimension of any limit space is the same everywhere. Finally, we show that a Reifenberg type property holds for collapsed limits and discuss why this indicate further regularity of manifolds and spaces with Ricci curvature bounds.
In this paper, we consider Ricci flows admitting closed and smooth tangent flows in the sense of Bamler [Bam20c]. The tangent flow in question can be either a tangent flow at infinity for an ancient Ricci flow, or a tangent flow at a singular point for a Ricci flow developing a finite-time singularity. Among other things, we prove: (1) that in these cases the tangent flow must be unique, (2) that if a Ricci flow with finite-time singularity has a closed singularity model, then the singularity is of Type I and the singularity model is the tangent flow at the singular point; this answers a quest…
This article is a continuation of [CMZ21b], where we proved that a Ricci flow with a closed and smooth tangent flow has unique tangent flow, and its corresponding forward or backward modified Ricci flow converges in the rate of $t^{-β}$ for some $β>0$. In this article, we calculate the corresponding $\mathbb{F}$-convergence rate: after being scaled by a factor $λ>0$, a Ricci flow with closed and smooth tangent flow is $|\log λ|^{-θ}$ close to its tangent flow in the $\mathbb{F}$-sense, where $θ$ is a positive number, $λ\gg 1$ in the blow-up case, and $λ\ll 1$ in the blow-down case.
In this paper we consider $4$-dimensional steady soliton singularity models, i.e., complete steady gradient Ricci solitons that arise as the rescaled limit of a finite time singular solution of the Ricci flow on a closed $4$-manifold. In particular, we study the geometry at infinity of such Ricci solitons under the assumption that their tangent flow at infinity is the product of $\mathbb{R}$ with a $3$-dimensional spherical space form. We also classify the tangent flows at infinity of $4$-dimensional steady soliton singularity models in general.
Stability of Ricci de Turck flow on Singular Spaces
In this article, we get classification theorems for a Ricci soliton on the pseudo-Riemannian hypersurface of the Minkowski space $\mathbb{E}^4_1$ taking the potential vector field as the tangent component of the position vector of the pseudo-Riemannian hypersurface, denoted by $(M,g,{\bf x}^T,λ)$ in both Riemannian and Lorentzian settings. First, we obtain the necessary and sufficient condition that a pseudo-Riemannian hypersurface $(M,g)$ in $\mathbb{E}^4_1$ admits a Ricci soliton $(M,g,{\bf x}^T,λ)$. In each of the form of the shape operator of a pseudo-Riemannian hypersurface, we obtain cha…
We show that any manifold admitting a non-collapsed, ancient Ricci flow must have finite fundamental group. This generalizes what was known for $κ$-solutions in dimensions 2, 3. We furthermore show that this fundamental group must be a quotient of the fundamental group of the regular part of any tangent flow at infinity.
Suppose $(M,g)$ is a Riemannian manifold having dimension $n$, nonnegative Ricci curvature, maximal volume growth and unique tangent cone at infinity. In this case, the tangent cone at infinity $C(X)$ is an Euclidean cone over the cross-section $X$. Denote by $α=\lim_{r\rightarrow\infty}\frac{\mathrm{Vol}(B_{r}(p))}{r^{n}}$ the asymptotic volume ratio. Let $h_{k}=h_{k}(M)$ be the dimension of the space of harmonic functions with polynomial growth of growth order at most $k$. In this paper, we prove a upper bound of $h_{k}$ in terms of the counting function of eigenvalues of $X$. As a corollary…
We compute the indicial roots of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian on Ricci-flat cones and give a detailed description of the corresponding radially homogeneous tensor fields in its kernel. For a Ricci-flat conifold $(M,g)$ which may have asymptotically conical as well as conically singular ends, we compute at each end a lower bound for the order with which the metric converges to the tangent cone. As a special subcase of our result, we show that any Ricci-flat ALE manifold $(M^n,g)$ is of order $n$ and thereby close a small gap in a paper by Cheeger and Tian.
Let $(X, L)$ be a polarized Calabi Yau variety (or canonical polarized variety) with crepant singularity. Suppose $ω_{KE} \in c_1(L)$ (or $ω_{KE} \in c_1(K_X)$) is the unique Ricci flat current (or Kahler Einstein current with negative scalar curvature) with local bounded potential constructed in [18], we show that the local tangent at any point $p \in X$ of metric $ω_{KE}$ is unique
We show that a simply-connected closed four-dimensional Ricci flow whose Ricci curvature is uniformly bounded below and whose volume does not approach zero must converge to a $C^{0}$ orbifold at any finite-time singularity, so has an extension through the singularity via orbifold Ricci flow. Moreover, a Type-I blowup of the flow based at any orbifold point converges to a flat cone in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense, without passing to a subsequence. In addition, we prove $L^{p}$ bounds for the curvature tensor on time-slices for any $p<2$. In higher dimensions, we show that every singular point of …
In this paper we characterize non-collapsed limits of Ricci flows. We show that such limits are smooth away from a set of codimension $\geq 4$ in the parabolic sense and that the tangent flows at every point are given by gradient shrinking solitons, possibly with a singular set of codimension $\geq 4$. We furthermore obtain a stratification result of the singular set with optimal dimensional bounds, which depend on the symmetries of the tangent flows. Our methods also imply the corresponding quantitative stratification result and the expected $L^p$-curvature bounds. As an application of our th…
