We study codes with a single check element derived from group rings, namely, checkable codes. The notion of a code-checkable group ring is introduced. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a group ring to be code-checkable are given in the case where the group is a finite abelian group and the ring is a finite field. This characterization leads to many good examples, among which two checkable codes and two shortened codes have minimum distance better than the lower bound given in Grassl's online table. Furthermore, when a group ring is code-checkable, it is shown that every code in such a group ring admits a generator, and that its dual is also generated by an element which may be deduced directly from a check element of the original code. These are analogous to the generator and parity-check polynomials of cyclic codes. In addition, the structures of reversible and complementary dual checkable codes are established as generalizations of reversible and complementary dual cyclic codes.
We classify, in terms of the structure of the finite group G, all group algebras KG for which all right ideals are right annihilators of principal left ideals. This means in the language of coding theory that we classify code-checkable group algebras KG which have been considered so far only for abelian groups G. Optimality of checkable codes and asymptotic results are discussed.
In this work, we determine new linear equations for the weight distribution of linear codes over finite chain rings. The identities are determined by counting the number of some special submatrices of the parity-check matrix of the code. Thanks to these relations we are able to compute the full weight distribution of codes with small Singleton defects, such as MDS, MDR and AMDR codes.
Following Johnsen and Verdure (2013), we can associate to any linear code $C$ an abstract simplicial complex and in turn, a Stanley-Reisner ring $R_C$. The ring $R_C$ is a standard graded algebra over a field and its projective dimension is precisely the dimension of $C$. Thus $R_C$ admits a graded minimal free resolution and the resulting graded Betti numbers are known to determine the generalized Hamming weights of $C$. The question of purity of the minimal free resolution of $R_C$ was considered by Ghorpade and Singh (2020) when $C$ is the generalized Reed-Muller code. They showed that the …
In this work, we study codes generated by elements that come from group matrix rings. We present a matrix construction which we use to generate codes in two different ambient spaces: the matrix ring $M_k(R)$ and the ring $R,$ where $R$ is the commutative Frobenius ring. We show that codes over the ring $M_k(R)$ are one sided ideals in the group matrix ring $M_k(R)G$ and the corresponding codes over the ring $R$ are $G^k$-codes of length $kn.$ Additionally, we give a generator matrix for self-dual codes, which consist of the mentioned above matrix construction. We employ this generator matrix t…
In this paper, we develop the theory of convolutional codes over finite commutative chain rings. In particular, we focus on maximum distance profile (MDP) convolutional codes and we provide a characterization of these codes, generalizing the one known for fields. Moreover, we relate (reverse) MDP convolutional codes over a finite chain ring with (reverse) MDP convolutional codes over its residue field. Finally, we provide a construction of (reverse) MDP convolutional codes over finite chain rings generalizing the notion of (reverse) superregular matrices.
The rings $Z_{4}+νZ_{4}$ have been classified into chain rings and non-chain rings on the basis of the values of $ν^{2} \in Z_{4}+νZ_{4}.$ In this paper, the structure of cyclic codes of arbitrary length over the rings $Z_{4}+νZ_{4}$ for those values of $ν^{2}$ for which these are non-chain rings has been established. A unique form of generators of these codes has also been obtained. Further, rank and cardinality of these codes have been established by finding minimal spanning sets for these codes.
Many kinds of codes which possess two cycle structures over two special finite commutative chain rings, such as ${\Bbb Z}_2{\Bbb Z}_4$-additive cyclic codes and quasi-cyclic codes of fractional index etc., were proved asymptotically good. In this paper we extend the study in two directions: we consider any two finite commutative chain rings with a surjective homomorphism from one to the other, and consider double constacyclic structures. We construct an extensive kind of double constacyclic codes over two finite commutative chain rings. And, developing a probabilistic method suitable for quasi…
We determine the asymptotic proportion of free modules over finite chain rings with good distance properties and treat the asymptotics in the code length n and the residue field size q separately. We then specialize and apply our technique to rank metric codes and to Hamming metric codes.
In this work, a unique set of generators for a cyclic code over a finite chain ring has been established. The minimal spanning set and rank of the code have also been determined. Further, sufficient as well as necessary conditions for a cyclic code to be an MDS code and for a cyclic code to be an MHDR code have been obtained. Some examples of optimal cyclic codes have also been presented.
In this paper, we describe a new type of DNA codes over two noncommutative rings $E$ and $F$ of order four with characteristic 2. Our DNA codes are based on quasi self-dual codes over $E$ and $F$. Using quasi self-duality, we can describe fixed GC-content constraint weight distributions and reverse-complement constraint minimum distributions of those codes.
In this small note we correct an error made by Mohammadi et al. in their paper entitled "On Skew Cyclic Codes Over A Finite Ring" ( Iranian Jl. Math. Sci. Inform. Vol 14 (1) (2019), 135-145).
Given a commutative ring $R$ with identity, a matrix $A\in M_{s\times l}(R)$, and $R$-linear codes $\mathcal{C}_1, \dots, \mathcal{C}_s$ of the same length, this article considers the hull of the matrix-product codes $[\mathcal{C}_1 \dots \mathcal{C}_s]\,A$. Consequently, it introduces various sufficient conditions under which $[\mathcal{C}_1 \dots \mathcal{C}_s]\,A$ is a linear complementary dual (LCD) code. As an application, LCD matrix-product codes arising from torsion codes over finite chain rings are considered. Highlighting examples are also given.
In this paper we give the generalization of lifted codes over any finite chain ring. This has been done by using the construction of finite chain rings from $p$-adic fields. Further we propose a lattice construction from linear codes over finite chain rings using lifted codes.
In this article, we construct new non-binary quantum codes from skew constacyclic codes over finite commutative non-chain ring $\mathcal{R}= \mathbb{F}_{p^m}[v]/\langle v^3 =v \rangle$ where $p$ is an odd prime and $m \geq 1$. In order to obtain such quantum codes, first we study the structural properties of skew constacyclic codes and their Euclidean duals over the ring $\mathcal{R}$. Then a necessary and sufficient condition for skew constacyclic codes over $\mathcal{R}$ to contain their Euclidean duals is established. Finally, with the help of CSS construction and using Gray map, many new n…
For any constacyclic code over a finite commutative chain ring of length coprime to the characteristic of the ring, we construct explicitly generator polynomials and check polynomials, and exhibit a BCH bound for such constacyclic codes. As a consequence, such constacyclic codes are principal. Further, we get a necessary and sufficient condition that the cyclic codes over a finite commutative principal ideal ring are all principal. This condition is still sufficient for constacyclic codes over such rings being principal.
