We introduce a common generalization of the L-R-smash product and twisted tensor product of algebras, under the name L-R-twisted tensor product of algebras. We investigate some properties of this new construction, for instance we prove a result of the type "invariance under twisting" and we show that under certain circumstances L-R-twisted tensor products of algebras may be iterated.
We analyze some relations between quasi-Hopf smash products and certain twisted tensor products of quasialgebras. Along the way we obtain also some results of independent interest, such as a duality theorem for finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras and a universal property for generalized diagonal crossed products.
The purpose of this paper is to provide new constructions of Hom-associative algebras using Hom-analogues of certain operators called twistors and pseudotwistors, by deforming a given Hom-associative multiplication into a new Hom-associative multiplication. As examples, we introduce Hom-analogues of the twisted tensor product and smash product. Furthermore we show that the construction by the ''twisting principle'' introduced by Yau and the twisting of associative algebras using pseudotwistors admit a common generalization
We give some applications of a Hopf algebra constructed from a group acting on another Hopf algebra A as Hopf automorphisms, namely Molnar's smash coproduct Hopf algebra. We find connections between the exponent and Frobenius-Schur indicators of a smash coproduct and the twisted exponents and twisted Frobenius-Schur indicators of the original Hopf algebra A. We study the category of modules of the smash coproduct.
For every element w in the Weyl group of a simple Lie algebra g, De Concini, Kac, and Procesi defined a subalgebra U_q^w of the quantized universal enveloping algebra U_q(g). The algebra U_q^w is a deformation of the universal enveloping algebra U(n_+\cap w.n_-). We construct smash products of certain finite-type De Concini-Kac-Procesi algebras to obtain ones of affine type; we have analogous constructions in types A_n and D_n. We show that the multiplication in the affine type De Concini-Kac-Procesi algebras arising from this smash product construction can be twisted by a cocycle to produce c…
In this paper we introduce and study a twisted tensor product construction of nonlocal vertex algebras. Among the main results, we establish a universal property and give a characterization of a twisted tensor product. Furthermore, we give a construction of modules for a twisted tensor product. We also show that smash products studied by one of us before can be realized as twisted tensor products.
We construct a new operation among representations of the symmetric group that interpolates between the classical internal and external products, which are defined in terms of tensor product and induction of representations. Following Malvenuto and Reutenauer, we pass from symmetric functions to non-commutative symmetric functions and from there to the algebra of permutations in order to relate the internal and external products to the composition and convolution of linear endomorphisms of the tensor algebra. The new product we construct corresponds to the smash product of endomorphisms of the…
Twisted Calabi-Yau algebras are a generalisation of Ginzburg's notion of Calabi-Yau algebras. Such algebras A come equipped with a modular automorphism σ\in Aut(A), the case σ= id being precisely the original class of Calabi-Yau algebras. Here we prove that every twisted Calabi-Yau algebra may be extended to a Calabi-Yau algebra. More precisely, we show that if A is a twisted Calabi-Yau algebra with modular automorphism σ, then the smash product algebras A \rtimes_σN and A \rtimes_σZ are Calabi-Yau.
We construct an invertible normalised 2 cocycle on the Ehresmann Schauenburg bialgebroid of a cleft Hopf Galois extension under the condition that the corresponding Hopf algebra is cocommutative and the image of the unital cocycle corresponding to this cleft Hopf Galois extension belongs to the centre of the coinvariant subalgebra. Moreover, we show that any Ehresmann Schauenburg bialgebroid of this kind is isomorphic to a 2-cocycle twist of the Ehresmann Schauenburg bialgebroid corresponding to a Hopf Galois extension without cocycle, where comodule algebra is an ordinary smash product of the…
We prove a result of the type ''invariance under twisting'' for Brzezinski's crossed products, as a common generalization of the invariance under twisting for twisted tensor products of algebras and the invariance under twisting for quasi-Hopf smash products. It turns out that this result contains also as a particular case the equivalence of crossed products by a coalgebra (due to Brzezinski).
We define a "mirror version" of Brzezinski's crossed product and we prove that, under certain circumstances, a Brzezinski crossed product D\otimes_{R, σ}V and a mirror version W\bar{\otimes}_{P, ν}D may be iterated, obtaining an algebra structure on W\otimes D\otimes V. Particular cases of this construction are the iterated twisted tensor product of algebras and the quasi-Hopf two-sided smash product.
Let $\mathbb{k}$ be an algebraically closed field. We classify all of the quadratic twisted tensor products $A \otimes_τ B$ in the cases where $(A, B) = (\mathbb{k}[x], \mathbb{k}[y])$ and $(A, B) = (\mathbb{k}[x, y], \mathbb{k}[z])$. We determine when a quadratic twisted tensor product of this form is Koszul, and when it is Artin-Schelter regular.
We classify Lagrangian subcategories of the representation category of a twisted quantum double of a finite group. In view of results of 0704.0195v2 this gives a complete description of all braided tensor equivalent pairs of twisted quantum doubles of finite groups. We also establish a canonical bijection between Lagrangian subcategories of the representation category of a twisted quantum double of a finite group G and module categories over the category of twisted G-graded vector spaces such that the dual tensor category is pointed. This can be viewed as a quantum version of V. Drinfeld's cha…
For a semisimple quasi-triangular Hopf algebra $\left( H,R\right) $ over a field $k$ of characteristic zero, and a strongly separable quantum commutative $H$-module algebra $A$ over which the Drinfeld element of $H$ acts trivially, we show that $A\#H$ is a weak Hopf algebra, and it can be embedded into a weak Hopf algebra $\operatorname{End}A^{\ast}\otimes H$. With these structure, $_{A\#H}\operatorname{Mod}$ is the monoidal category introduced by Cohen and Westreich, and $_{\operatorname{End}A^{\ast}\otimes H}\mathcal{M}$ is tensor equivalent to $_{H}\mathcal{M}$. If $A$ is in the M{ü}ger cen…
For an action $α$ of a group $G$ on an algebra $R$ (over $\Bbb C$), the crossed product $R\times_αG$ is the vector space of $R$-valued functions with finite support in $G$, together with the twisted convolution product given by $$(ξη)(p) = \sum_{q \in G} ξ(q) α_q (η(q^{-1}p))$$ where $p\in G$. This construction has been extended to the theory of Hopf algebras. Given an action of a Hopf algebra $A$ on an algebra $R$, it is possible to make the tensor product $R\ot A$ into an algebra by using a twisted product, involving the action. In this case, the algebra is called the smash product and denot…
We unify and generalize several approaches to constructing braid group representations from finite groups, using iterated twisted tensor products. Our results hint at a relationship between the braidings on the $G$-gaugings of a pointed modular category $\mathcal{C}(A,Q)$ and that of $\mathcal{C}(A,Q)$ itself.
We explore questions of projectivity and tensor products of modules for finite dimensional Hopf algebras. We construct many classes of examples in which tensor powers of nonprojective modules are projective and tensor products of modules in one order are projective but in the other order are not. Our examples are smash coproducts with duals of group algebras, some having algebra and coalgebra structures twisted by a cocycle. We develop a theory of support varieties for these Hopf algebras to use as a tool in our investigations.
It is well known that the cohomology of a tensor product is essentially the tensor product of the cohomologies. We look at twisted tensor products, and investigate to which extend this is still true. We give an explicit description of the $\Ext$-algebra of the tensor product of two modules, and under certain additional conditions, describe an essential part of the Hochschild cohomology ring of a twisted tensor product. As an application, we characterize precisely when the cohomology groups over a quantum complete intersection are finitely generated over the Hochschild cohomology ring. Moreover…
Let $\mathbb{k}$ be an algebraically closed field. Building upon previous work, we classify, up to isomorphism of graded algebras, quadratic graded twisted tensor products of $\mathbb{k}[x,y]$ and $\mathbb{k}[z]$. When such an algebra is Artin-Schelter regular, we identify its point scheme and type. We also describe which three-dimensional Sklyanin algebras contain a subalgebra isomorphic to a quantum $\mathbb{P}^1$, and we show that every algebra in this family is a graded twisted tensor product of $\mathbb{k}_{-1}[x,y]$ and $\mathbb{k}[z]$.
We construct the Gerstenhaber bracket on Hochschild cohomology of a twisted tensor product of algebras, and, as examples, compute Gerstenhaber brackets for some quantum complete intersections arising in work of Buchweitz, Green, Madsen, and Solberg. We prove that a subalgebra of the Hochschild cohomology ring of a twisted tensor product, on which the twisting is trivial, is isomorphic, as Gerstenhaber algebras, to the tensor product of the respective subalgebras of the Hochschild cohomology rings of the factors.
We construct and classify $(1 \; 2\; \cdots \; k)$-twisted $V^{\otimes k}$-modules for $k$ odd and for $V$ a vertex operator superalgebra. This extends previous results of the author, along with Dong and Mason, classifying all permutation-twisted modules for tensor product vertex operator algebras, to the setting of vertex operator superalgebras for odd order permutations. We show why this construction does not extend to the case of permutations of even order in the superalgebra case and how the construction and classification in the even order case is fundamentally different than that for the…
Bialgebroids (resp. Hopf algebroids) are bialgebras (Hopf algebras) over noncommutative rings. Drinfeld twist techniques are particularly useful in the (deformation) quantization of Lie algebras as well as underlying module algebras (=quantum spaces). Smash product construction combines these two into the new algebra which, in fact, does not depend on the twist. However, we can turn it into bialgebroid in the twist dependent way. Alternatively, one can use Drinfeld twist techniques in a category of bialgebroids. We show that both techniques indicated in the title: twisting of a bialgebroid or …
We introduce and study the definition, main properties and applications of iterated twisted tensor products of algebras, motivated by the problem of defining a suitable representative for the product of spaces in noncommutative geometry. We find conditions for constructing an iterated product of three factors, and prove that they are enough for building an iterated product of any number of factors. As an example of the geometrical aspects of our construction, we show how to construct differential forms and involutions on iterated products starting from the corresponding structures on the facto…
In this paper, we study a new kind of vertex operator algebra related to the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, which we call the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, and its modules. Specifically, we present some results concerning the relationship between the restricted module categories of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebras of rank one and rank two and several different kinds of module categories of their corresponding vertex algebras. We also study fully the structures of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, give a characterization of it as a tensor …
We construct and classify $(1 \; 2 \; \cdots \; k)$-twisted $V^{\otimes k}$-modules for $k$ even and $V$ a vertex operator superalgebra. In particular, we show that the category of weak $(1 \; 2 \; \cdots \; k)$-twisted $V^{\otimes k}$-modules for $k$ even is isomorphic to the category of weak parity-twisted $V$-modules. This result shows that in the case of a cyclic permutation of even order, the construction and classification of permutation-twisted modules for tensor product vertex operator superalgebras is fundamentally different than in the case of a cyclic permutation of odd order, as pr…
Let V be a vertex operator algebra, and for k a positive integer, let g be a k-cycle permutation of the vertex operator algebra V^{\otimes k}. We prove that the categories of weak, weak admissible and ordinary g-twisted modules for the tensor product vertex operator algebra V^{\otimes k} are isomorphic to the categories of weak, weak admissible and ordinary V-modules, respectively. The main result is an explicit construction of the weak g-twisted V^{\otimes k}-modules from weak V-modules. For an arbitrary permutation automorphism g of V^{\otimes k} the category of weak admissible g-twisted mod…
A BiHom-associative algebra is a (nonassociative) algebra $A$ endowed with two commuting multiplicative linear maps $α,β\colon A\rightarrow A$ such that $α(a)(bc)=(ab)β(c)$, for all $a, b, c\in A$. This concept arose in the study of algebras in so-called group Hom-categories. In this paper, we introduce as well BiHom-Lie algebras (also by using the categorical approach) and BiHom-bialgebras. We discuss these new structures by presenting some basic properties and constructions (representations, twisted tensor products, smash products etc).
In our recent papers [Sh1,2], we introduced a {\it twisted tensor product} of dg categories, and provided, in terms of it, {\it a contractible 2-operad $\mathcal{O}$}, acting on the category of small dg categories, in which the "natural transformations" are derived. We made use of some homotopy theory developed in [To] to prove the contractibility of the 2-operad $\mathcal{O}$. The contractibility is an important issue, in vein of the theory of Batanin [Ba1,2], according to which an action of a contractible $n$-operad on $C$ makes $C$ a weak $n$-category. In this short note, we provide a new e…
We show that subsingular vectors exist in Verma modules over W(2,2), and present a subquotient structure of these modules. We prove conditions for irreducibility of a tensor product of intermediate series module with the highest weight module. Relations to intertwining operators over vertex operator algebra associated to W(2,2) is discussed. Also, we study a tensor product of intermediate series and highest weight module over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, and present series of irreducible modules with infinite-dimensional weight spaces.
We establish braided tensor equivalences among module categories over the twisted quantum double of a finite group defined by an extension of a group H by an abelian group, with 3-cocycle inflated from a 3-cocycle on H. We also prove that the canonical ribbon structure of the module category of any twisted quantum double of a finite group is preserved by braided tensor equivalences. We give two main applications: first, if G is an extra-special 2-group of width at least 2, we show that the quantum double of G twisted by a 3-cocycle w is gauge equivalent to a twisted quantum double of an elemen…
Motivated by some results in classical differential geometry, we give a constructive procedure for building up a connection over a (twisted) tensor product of two algebras, starting from connections defined on the factors. The curvature for the product connection is explicitly calculated, and shown to be independent of the choice of the twisting map and the module twisting map used to define the product connection. As a consequence, we obtain that a product of two flat connections is again a flat connection. We show that our constructions also behaves well with respect to bimodule structures, …
We introduce an analogue of the composition of the Cherednik and Drinfeld functor for twisted Yangians. Our definition is based on the Howe duality, and originates from the centralizer construction of twisted Yangians due to Olshanski. Using our functor, we establish a correspondence between intertwining operators on the tensor products of certain modules over twisted Yangians, and the extremal cocycle on the hyperoctahedral group.
We introduce a skew analogue of the composition of the Cherednik and Drinfeld functors for twisted Yangians. Our definition is based on the skew Howe duality, and originates from the centralizer construction of twisted Yangians due to Olshanski. Using our functor, we establish a correspondence between intertwining operators on the tensor products of certain modules over twisted Yangians, and the extremal cocycle on the hyperoctahedral group.
Defining conditions for irreducible tensor operators associated with the unitary irreducible corepresentations of compact quantum group algebras are deduced within the framework of the abstract carrier space formalism. It is shown that there are {\em{two}} types of irreducible tensor operator, which may be called `ordinary' and `twisted'. The consistency of the definitions is demonstrated, and various consequences are deduced, including generalizations of the Wigner-Eckart theorem for both the ordinary and twisted operators. Examples of irreducible tensor operators for the standard deformation…
The defining conditions for the irreducible tensor operators associated with the unitary irreducible corepresentions of compact quantum group algebras are deduced first in both the right and left regular coaction formalisms. In each case it is shown that there are {\em{two}} types of irreducible tensor operator, which may be called `ordinary' and `twisted'. The consistency of the definitions is demonstrated, and various consequences are deduced, including generalizations of the Wigner-Eckart theorem for both the ordinary and twisted operators. Also included are discussions (within the regular …
Twisted tensor powers of quasitriangular Hopf algebras with diagonal sub-Hopf-algebras (self-diagonal tensor powers) are introduced together with their duals and their mutual *-structures as generalizations of the Drinfel'd double as given by Reshetikhin and Semenov-Tian-Shansky. R-Matrices for tensor products of representations are derived.
Consider any representation $ϕ$ of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $g$ by derivations of the completed symmetric algebra $\hat{S}(g^*)$ of its dual. Consider the tensor product of $\hat{S}(g^*)$ and the exterior algebra $Λ(g)$. We show that the representation $ϕ$ extends canonically to the representation $\tildeϕ$ of that tensor product algebra. We construct an exterior derivative on that algebra, giving rise to a twisted version of the exterior differential calculus with the enveloping algebra in the role of the coordinate algebra. In this twisted version, the commutators between the noncomm…
We present methods and explicit formulas for describing simple weight modules over twisted generalized Weyl algebras. When a certain commutative subalgebra is finitely generated over an algebraically closed field we obtain a classification of a class of locally finite simple weight modules as those induced from simple modules over a subalgebra isomorphic to a tensor product of noncommutative tori. As an application we describe simple weight modules over the quantized Weyl algebra.
The comultiplication formula for fusion products of untwisted representations of the chiral algebra is generalised to include arbitrary twisted representations. We show that the formulae define a tensor product with suitable properties, and determine the analogue of Zhu's algebra for arbitrary twisted representations. As an example we study the fusion of representations of the Ramond sector of the N=1 and N=2 superconformal algebra. In the latter case, certain subtleties arise which we describe in detail.
Let $G_M$ be one of the complex Lie groups $O_M$ and $Sp_M$. The irreducible finite-dimensional representations of the group $G_M$ are labeled by partitions $μ$ satisfying certain extra conditions. Let $U$ be the representation of $G_M$ corresponding to $μ$. Regard the direct product $G_N\times G_M$ as a subgroup of $G_{N+M}$. Let $V$ be the irreducible representation of $G_{N+M}$ corresponding to a partition $λ$. Consider the vector space $W=Hom_{G_M}(U,V)$. It comes with a natural action of the group $G_N$. Let $n$ be sum of parts of $λ$ less the sum of parts of $μ$. For any choice of a stan…
We study finite-dimensional respresentations of twisted current algebras and show that any graded twisted Weyl module is isomorphic to level one Demazure module for the twisted affine Kac-Moody algebra. Using the tensor product property of Demazure modules, we obtain, by analyzing the fundamental Weyl modules, dimension and character formulas. Moreover we prove that graded twisted Weyl modules can be obtained by taking the associated graded modules of Weyl modules for the loop algebra, which implies that its dimension and classical character are independent of the support and depend only on it…
The minimal irreducible representations of $U_q[gl(m|n)]$, i.e. those irreducible representations that are also irreducible under $U_q[osp(m|n)]$ are investigated and shown to be affinizable to give irreducible representations of the twisted quantum affine superalgebra $U_q[gl(m|n)^{(2)}]$. The $U_q[osp(m|n)]$ invariant R-matrices corresponding to the tensor product of any two minimal representations are constructed, thus extending our twisted tensor product graph method to the supersymmetric case. These give new solutions to the spectral-dependent graded Yang-Baxter equation arising from $U_q…
Motivated by applications of twisted current algebras in description of the entropy of $Ads_3$ black hole, we investigate the simplest twisted current algebra $sl(3,{\bf C})^{(2)}_k$. Free field representation of the twisted algebra and the corresponding twisted Sugawara energy-momentum tensor are obtained by using three $(β,γ)$ pairs and two scalar fields. Primary fields and two screening currents of the first kind are presented.
A two-dimensional chiral conformal field theory can be viewed mathematically as the representation theory of its chiral algebra, a vertex operator algebra. Vertex operator algebras are especially well suited for studying logarithmic conformal field theory (in which correlation functions have logarithmic singularities arising from non-semisimple modules for the chiral algebra) because of the logarithmic tensor category theory of Huang, Lepowsky, and Zhang. In this paper, we study not-necessarily-semisimple or rigid braided tensor categories $\mathcal{C}$ of modules for the fixed-point vertex op…
