We define a "mirror version" of Brzezinski's crossed product and we prove that, under certain circumstances, a Brzezinski crossed product D\otimes_{R, σ}V and a mirror version W\bar{\otimes}_{P, ν}D may be iterated, obtaining an algebra structure on W\otimes D\otimes V. Particular cases of this construction are the iterated twisted tensor product of algebras and the quasi-Hopf two-sided smash product.

For a finite dimensional Hopf algebra we show that an associated natural inclusion of infinite crossed products is the crossed product by the Drinfeld double, and that this is a characterisation of the double.

The generality of our situation entails that the "generating matrix" formalism cannot be used, forcing us to use a different approach. This pays off because as an application we obtain an easy conceptual proof of an important but very technical result of Hausser and Nill concerning iterated two-sided crossed products.

If $A\otimes _{R, σ}V$ and $A\otimes _{P, ν}W$ are two Brzeziński crossed products and $Q:W\otimes V\rightarrow V\otimes W$ is a linear map satisfying certain properties, we construct a Brzeziński crossed product $A\otimes _{S, θ}(V\otimes W)$. If H is a finite dimensional Hopf algebra, C. Cibils and M. Rosso found an algebra X having the property that Hopf bimodules over H^* coincide with left X-modules. We find two other algebras, Y and Z, having the same property; namely, Y is the "two-sided crossed product" H^*#(H\otimes H^{op})# H^{* op} and Z is the "diagonal crossed product" (H^*\otimes H^{*op})\bowtie (H\otimes H^{op}) (both concepts are due to F. We introduce the notion of a crossed product of an algebra by a coalgebra $C$, which generalises the notion of a crossed product by a bialgebra well-studied in the theory of Hopf algebras. The result of such a crossed product is an algebra which is also a right $C$-comodule. We find the necessary and sufficient conditions for two coalgebra crossed products be equivalent. We show that the two-dimensional quantum Euclidean group is a coalgebra crossed product. The paper is completed with an appendix describing the dualisation of construction of coalgebra crossed products.

We give a general construction of rings graded by the conjugacy classes of a finite group. Some examples of our construction are the Hochschild cohomology ring of a finite group algebra, the Grothendieck ring of the Drinfel'd double of a group, and the orbifold cohomology ring for a global quotient. We generalize the first two examples by deriving product formulas for the Hochschild cohomology ring of a group crossed product and for the Grothendieck ring of an abelian extension of Hopf algebras. Our results account for similarities in the product structures among these examples.
